About a year ago I came into PetSmart looking for a guinea pig. They had a white one that was free due to her being returned. I asked why and if she was healthy enough to be adopted. They said that the "Vet" checked her out and she was good to go, the only thing is that once I took the guinea pig I could not bring her back to the store. That should have been my first clue that something wasn't right with the guinea pig. After having her(the guinea pig) home for a few days I realized she went to the bathroom A LOT. I couldn't hold her because she would pee all over me. Finally I took her the vet only to find out that she had kidney failure. She really was "good to go" right PetSmart? Then recently I decided to go back, hoping that the way the animals were treated would be changed. I was wrong. I bought another guinea pig only to take her back the next day due to her showing signs of a sickness. What the heck PetSmart!!! Really?!?! This is horrible, are all you animals sick? Does your "vet" really check them out before you put them out on the floor to sell? You really need to start taking better care of your animals. read more

So I made an appointment for my dog to get groomed/bathed about 2-3 days ago. I drive to PetSmart (20 miles from where I live) only for them to tell me my dog was only down for a bath, even after I told them over the phone she needed a trim and she tried rescheduling me for another appointment 20 days from now. Get your shit together PetSmart listen to what people say when they make appointments. Biggest waste of my time and my dog has been there at least 4 times so why would she just need a bath if I take her to get groomed? PetSmart got me fucked up read more

I called previously about a particular product. I was more than pleased to find out they had the product I was looking for. On the downside, I showed up, realized that particular product was out of reach for the consumer. I waited, and waited.... Took my dog for a walk around the store to find an available associate and found nobody available to help. After 30 minutes I confronted an associate for help and was put off... In the end I walked out. Whoever is the store manager really needs to train their associates better. I work on a military installation, we greet customers in 10seconds and if they look lost we help them right away. Working at a particular business isn't about the employee's social life, it about who makes their paycheck happen. With that said... Petsmart in Salinas just lost a $100+ sale, I would NOT recommend them to my friends, family or anyone else. read more

Do not waste your time or support this sorry existence of a Petsmart. This is for the store only, because the Banfield hospital is actually really great. The manager lady is a snobbish BITCH (the one with the glasses). I have my reasons. She was ridiculously rude to me when I came to talk to her inquiring about my application for job openings. It appeared I was bothering her and she obviously wanted to shoo me away from her office. The other associates are just okay. Petsmart associates, although some seemingly nice enough, basically seem to be like novices moving around mindlessly. I can't believe I took the time and effort to bring myself here and show my interest in working for this shithole and then be treated like that. I am too overqualified to work here anyways. The store is well kept and supplied, but every time I come in here there is such a void feeling, than I see that manager lady walking around. Eww.. I would rather much go to another pet store who are run and staffed with people with real compassion along with professional and efficient service for pet needs (Pet Fun, Petco). Only person I trust are Dee Dee , Priscilla . Taylor and Felicia to do my Dogs, all the rest of the groomers are unexperienced and poorly trained, one lady did my dogs nails and told me they were close to the quick or something and then I went back in and another girl did the nails closer said they were not even filed right. I've been here for many years and never had a problem almost everyone here has done my dogs nails, the the person who did them was the manger. Make sure you set your appointments with the lady's i mentioned, for the best service. read more

Sue was so very helpful! My husband found a tiny puppy on our door step and we had to get some supplies and a gate for it and our other dog. She showed us exactly what we needed and helped us pick the right one. She was so awesome! I will say though another employee who was NOT SUE. tried to tell me " oh don't feed your dog that!!!" First off if it isn't good don't stock it.. Second if you are not a vet don't tell what to feed my baby's.. So they may wanna be reminded that they are not vets... Best pet store I have ever been to! I have a 8 month old loveable pitbull that went inside with me. I have only been to this store once because it is not located close to my home. This store is huge and the selection of dog harnesses are much larger than I have ever seen in a pet store near me! My dog was warmly welcomed at the front by the cashiers. After picking a new collar and Kermit the frog toy we headed to the front. The cashier also helped me find some spray that would help prevent my dog from chewing my TV power cord while I'm not home! Very happy with my experience. Much better than my local Petco I normally visit. Will return if in the area! read more

We come her at least once a week and sometimes more. We love that they've started carrying Innova cat and dog food. They remember us and our pets, which is lovely. I take all three of our dogs to be groomed there. My greyhound loves Michelle. My tiny chihuahuas love Michaela, Michelle and Kimiko. They are always super friendly and glad to see my dogs. As much as I'd rather not go to a big box store, the customer service keeps me coming back. Now if they just make their rewards card send me some rewards we'd be set. read more

Pet Smart employees were so kind to my adopted dog yesterday. I had booked a grooming appointment. My dog was upset. I adopted her from the SPCA in December. She had been surrendered twice during her life before I adopted her. Seeing the other animals, I think she was afraid I was going to return her as well. I expressed my concern and the employees said they could do a quick trim while I stayed. Ten minutes later my happy pup and I were on our way home. Way to go Pet Smart! read more

BEWARE!!!!!! They called animal control on me. My dog which has been getting groomed here for YEARS since he was 7 weeks old had allergies and was sick. He had just left the vet and I took him in to get groomed. I CLEARLY told them it might NOT be a good idea to cut my dogs nails because his paws were sensitive and he was having discomfort due to allergies. They assured me it would be fine and not to worry. What did they do? They cut his nails and he bit the groomer (he's a little chihuahua) and they call animal control?!!! Wow! My dog is sick!! They've known him for years! I'm actually going to break this review down into two parts: the store itself, and the grooming. THE STORE I love shopping here for my four-legged friends. They've got a really good selection of foods, toys, beds, vitamins, and everything else you can think of. Their prices are reasonable and their staff is always friendly & helpful. Sadly, I no longer have a dog at the moment. But once I get one again, I'll be spending more money here just like before lol. GROOMING I took my golden (RIP) here once, and would not do so again. The first problem I had was the scheduling. I made an appointment for 10:00 am to have him bathed & brushed...nothing fancy. Upon arrival, I was informed that I could pick him up again around 5:00 pm. Say what? Why so long? Never did get a very good answer to that. But the bigger issue I had is when I picked my pal up. Now, anyone who knew my dog knows that he was the most loving, social, attention-hogging goofball around. He LOVED meeting people, playing, etc. Whenever I would bring him into PetSmart (or even the vet's office, if you can imagine that!) he would lead the way, pulling me in through the door so that he could greet new people and have some fun. So it was somewhat of a shock when I picked him up after his appointment with the grooming staff and he practically dragged me OUT the door! He wanted nothing to do staying there any moment longer. I don't know what happened, and it didn't appear that he had been mistreated in any way, but he absolutely didn't like being there and wanted to leave asap. In a nutshell, I give the store an overall score of 4 stars. But the grooming would be 2 stars at best. read more

Extremely disappointed and will never go back! I took my dog to get groomed and trimmed. He's a small really friendly dog about ten pounds. Dropped him of early when they opened. I received a call two hours later. Thinking it was to let me know they where done. Come to find out they called to tell me they had actually CUT my dog. They took him next door to the vet hospital inside pet smart. They took care of everything. Expected! He needed to get stitches! Three stitches! Finally! They call me to pick him up...around 6 hours start to finish. They gave him a horrible hair cut! Looking and feeling bad.! Top it of, when my son and I went back a few days later to get his collar. That they forgot to give back and never called to inform me. I had to call. There was a huge Husky walking out of the grooming place and attacked a golden retriever... The careless unexperienced managment has lost my trust for my pet and sons safety. Will never spend a dollar at that place again! read more

The store is a great place to shop with your best friends. They have dog foods that other department stores do not have. But their grooming, lets just say im not a fan. Their staff at the grooming area are rude & kind of b*tchy. They dont know how to show real customer service. Sometimes they forget to jot you and your pet's name for grooming appointment when you call them. It happened to me twice. So make sure they got your day of appointment down. I am not happy that they charged me $7 for deep conditioner when we specifically talked about whether this was necessary or not before they started grooming my dog. I said I did not think it was necessary because we have never had to deep condition him before. I would say that if you want to use conditioner on the animals that you groom to make your job easier that's fine but don't charge the customer 7 more dollars. I'm giving them two stars because the last couple of times they've done a good job of grooming my dog. read more

To start off with they say walk-in are welcome when they are not. So I made an appointment I was told told my GSD would ave all this cleaning done to him I thought oh that's awesome. So I took him in and left him for a couple of hours. When I picked him up I read the report he only had a wash 15 minutes of brushing, ears cleaned and his nails trimmed (which I trimmed only a couple of days before) I didn't fuss about it. He's NEVER had fleas but since I took him there and brought him home he's been itching away. I put flea repellent on him. Never taking him back. We bought a dog house for him the guy helping us told us that the dog house was very durable and sturdy. Ha! We brought it home and it was a flimsy and the nails that were screwed in were falling out. My husband took it back. We agreed we won't be petsmart customers. read more

Like any other Pets Mart, this is a pretty decent place to shop for your pets. It's a little smaller than some; however in the grand scheme of things it's still pretty large for a pet store. They sell fish, birds, rodents, and related equipment as cat and dog stuff. If you're not from the area, don't worry about the Salinas stereotype. This store and the shopping center in general is very clean and safe. You won't see much, if any riff raff hanging out here. With that said, I prefer Pet Pals in the Santa Cruz area. It's sort of like a Costco for pets. Much larger selection. read more

This store is awful. They never have what you need, the prices are too high, the service is terrible, and the place is not clean. You can never find any help when you need it. There is never anyone on the floor and if you do happen to see someone they dissappear. It frustrates me to no end that I am forced to deal with this place but they are the only ones who carry my dogs food brand. Horrible experience!!! Came here because I needed a small crate for my dog, I asked for direction to where they were and was directed to the wrong part of the store. Ended up finding one myself for a price of $34.99. I took it to the cashier and they couldn't wring it up. The manager went to where they were located and tried to charge me $39.99. I went back there with her and she removed the price tag and to my surprise the price underneath was $29.99. Way to raiser your prices during the holidays!!! read more

If I could give them 0 stars I would. Do NOT take your dog to the grooming salon! Today I took my pup Blue in for his first grooming session at Pet Smart in Salinas. I walk in to pick him up and he's the first cry I hear. Nobody was manning the desk so I patiently waited. My pup is only 2 months, he isn't crate trained...yet in a crate, and this is his first session so I expected to hear him cry. As I continued to hear my dog cry I'm also watching 2 groomers through the window grooming other dogs. Neither of them can see me so I continue to watch and wait. Blue calms down for a minute, but starts back up shortly after with his piercing whine. The young girl who was drying her dog turns back to Blue and blows him in the face yelling "Shut up! Shut up!" I walk back there and immediately tell her to stop and say "That is not okay! take my dog out of the kennel". As she is getting him out she makes excuses saying that he couldn't handle the stress of being in a kennel. I exclaimed she didn't make his first experience any better by blowing the wind out of him. She says he had a dryer faced in his kennel so it wasn't like she was making it worse. I then exclaimed that it is a fan not a blow dryer and it's not directly hitting him in the face, so now what's your excuse for yelling at him to shut up?!?! She apologizes and says she won't charge me for today's service. Well no shit little miss Molly!!! After talking to the grooming manager and the store manager the only thing that will happen is having a talk with Molly. I don't feel like a "talk" would do much to change an employees work ethic. I can only imagine what they do to the dogs when they know nobody is around or watching! ! read more
