Been coming here for quite a few months and right when I was starting to give hope to this grooming service, they instantly lost all my trust and service. I am someone who tries to be an optimist and will give situations multiple chances before making a final opinion. But this time is my last time. My dog was working with one groomer in specific (Sofie M) and they seemed to have an understanding for each other. Recently I found out that she left the company, and my dog had to go to another groomer. Not only did I come back to my dog's hair being terribly cut, but I had to pay a fee for him being 'too much'. The groomers said that the reason was because of my dog but it leads me to question how (with the exception of the very first time) for months everything was fine but now he is acting up? They then told me that they would not be able to help my dog unless I drugged him. In addition, the blonde lady has given me extreme attitude the last 3 visits and had acted annoyed that she has to be there and help me. She not only had me wait but she had me wait to continue to be on her phone. I tried to give her the benefit of the doubt because I understand people have off days, but this last time made me think not only is that maybe her personality but also maybe my dog wasn't the problem. So, it's not okay for dogs to act up when they don't feel safe but it's okay for humans to? It is truly shocking that people who are supposed to be able to work with animals can't work with them unless they are drugged. read more

And the Sales Associates here are always very friendly and helpful. Great experience at this PetSmart location by Rockaway Mall. We booked an appt on Sat. 2/26 when our first appt. at our local groomer never got back to us. We were lucky to have available spots to bring our dog King. We booked with Alexandria and glad we did! Our dog gets nervous at the beginning of any appt (waiting to get in.. he's dropping poop at the waiting area..) but Alexandria helped me clean it up and reassured me as well. I felt so bad. Then I got a phone call that he is ready to be picked up and that he did great throughout the whole process. When we picked him up.. he looked so handsome! Alexandria made sure to comb him out and not leave any loose hair. My dog's breath was pretty stinky.. so she even brushed his teeth twice. She is the best! Do not take your pet here for grooming! I dropped off my dog and an hour later the groomer called and said that my dog was having really bad anxiety. My dog is older however she has always been fine getting groomed. By the time I got there, she was in Banfield next door on a heart monitor. She was shaved to the skin on half of her body and then groomer stopped because of her anxiety Something really must have scared her. I had a gut feeling when I got to the salon, that something wasn't right. It was dirty and smelled terrible. The one groomer had a very negative attitude. The other one seemed like she was new or inexperienced. The store manager didn't look at me or introduce herself when I arrived. She had zero emotion. No apologizes, concerns, or empathy. When I asked the groomer what happened and if there was an incident that caused her reaction, she paused, looked away and said no. I am mad at myself for taking my dog there. I don't want any animal or person to have to go through this. I am still so upset and stressed that my dog had to endure that horrible experience. Shame on them. Oh, and did I mention that I'm a combat veteran, and she is my service dog?! read more

Had a grooming on my Chinese crested puppy today by Dakota. She told me she had never groomed one before. I appreciated her honesty. She allowed me to give her step by step instructions on what I wanted done. In less than 2 hours I received a text that my little Lucy was ready to pick up. The grooming was spot on in every detail it looked like a show groomer had done it and believe me it's a very specific cut called a pony cut just for that breed. My puppy was well taken care of and her cut was amazing. For anyone hesitant to go to petsmart Rockaway don't be. I was beyond satisfied and I fact booked my next 2 haircuts on line. Took my dog in for a bath and brush on Tuesday, and I'm super disappointed with the whole experience. This is the second time I have taken my dog and the first time went great, the groomer even asked me to bring her back in because she is such a sweet dog. Her appointment was at 10:15 and the groomer said that she had other dogs at the same time but that her appointment should take a little over an hour, and that she would call me when she was ready. 3 hours went by and I had heard nothing, so I went back to check. When I got there her groomer was not with her and said my dog was scared of the blow drier and to come back in 30 mins. 30 mins went by and I was called to come pick her up. A different groomer brought her out, and when I asked how the nail trimming went she said that it went really well and that her groomer apologized for taking so long. Once I got home my dog was clearly in pain, she had a hard time walking, her tail was in between her legs and she was whining and yelping all day and all night. I looked at her nails and they were extremely short and the nerve was obviously clipped. If the groomer would have come out and been honest with me about accidentally cutting them too short I would have understood, because I know my dogs paws can be sensitive. But to be sneaky and keep her for 3 hours because she was most likely bleeding, and then lie about it is extremely unprofessional. Not only is my dog in pain and at risk for infection but she is also going to be terrified at any future grooming appointments. Needless to say I will not be returning. read more

I really like this Petsmart location...for convenience and their great adoption days. Yes, I know that if you read my reviews I am always harping on supporting the local guys, and when I can I do, but sometimes I'm lazy and I take the easy way out...there, I said it, are you happy? This location is always clean, from what ivenseen and what I've been told they do a pretty good job with grooming, and the folks who have helped us with questions have always been knowledgeable. Can you get cheap, less healthy food here? Yep. Can you get healthy, nutritious food here? Yep. You decide, because they have a huge selection. They also have a great selection toys, beds, leashes, and all the stuff you'd need for pets other than dogs (though why you'd want anything other than a dog is beyond me). Ok, that was uncalled for, but I love my dogs. Four stars? Maybe three and a half, but because they do SO many adoption days I'm rounding up this time. Adopt a pet...they complete you. This comment is mainly for the grooming service I received. I took my dog there to be groomed on Valentine's day 2022. I told the lady to move my dog all over even the tail. When I went to pick him up the tail was still bushy. That's not how I wanted it. They didn't seem to listen. We are friendly staff but I need to listen to their customers. Yay! I have to update my review after my last grooming experience. I scheduled an appointment to have my dog groomed on a Saturday morning (drop off time of 8am). I was told I'd be able to pick him up around 11 so I headed to Target and the mall to kill time. I arrived back at Petsmart around 10:45 and played with a few of the dogs outside (they were there for Adoption Saturdays) and then went inside to look for a new toy for my pup. *Aside: I highly recommend that you come here to see the dogs that are available for adoption if you are in the market for a new dog. Though I was a little peeved at the attendants for being a bit disorganized, I think pet adoption is the way to go; please don't go designer puppy shopping at a puppy mill. Promptly at 11, I went to the grooming room and my dog was still being trimmed. He is a fussy mf-er so I wasn't surprised to see him squirming. However, I saw the groomer (unfortunately I forget her name) calmly petting him and soothing him as she trimmed the hair on his paws. She saw me waiting and came over and said, "He really hates people touching his paws! I'm trying to go slowly so he won't freak out. Do you mind coming back in 15 minutes?" I told her that of course I didn't mind waiting since I could just keep dilly dallying around the store some more. I was so appreciative of the groomer's gentle nature and willingness to be patient with my crazy dog. The girl at the front desk printed out a receipt for me so that I could also pay while I was waiting. I scanned the bill and saw that it was an even $60, which surprised me since the last time I'd gone, they had charged me extra for a misbehaving fee. When I went back to pick up my dog, he had a little bow around his neck and looked so sweet. He seemed a bit traumatized since I left him in a strange place for hours (I sort of spoil him and he has issues separating from me) but his tail was wagging and his new haircut looked great. The groomer did a great job of trimming the hair inside his ears and he smelled so clean (for once!). I can't say what will happen the next time I bring my dog in to be groomed, but it seems as though all of the groomers were really kind, calm, patient, and true dog lovers. read more

This is the largest pet supply store in the area. It's my go to whenever my dog needs food, shampoo, etc. The groomers I'm not impressed. The first few times I brought my dog in, he was so fresh & shinny. But by the fourth or fifth time, it was so rushed that he still had dandruff in some spots! That experience led me to take a few points off out of sheer inconvenience. Though, after I called and explained there was a mishap, they gave him another session on the house. I know my 50 LBer can be a hand full at times, but handling dogs comes with your job. (sigh) the more I think about it, the angrier this makes me... All in all, the store is good, service has always been welcoming, I'd give it 3 stars. read more

I was so happy with my dog's results from grooming here. My dog can be a cranky old lady and hates when anyone touches near her back. She has become matted because of this. I took her here and warned them of them of her crankiness, I also had the request not to cut her too short. When I picked her up, she looked so cute and was so happy. They didn't need to shave her close but they got all her mats out. Even in the checkout someone ask who the groomer was because she has a Pomeranian and wants the same length cut. The grooming staff is rude, lazy and incompetent, for the most part. The girl who did the grooming intake was ridiculously ignorant and the rest of them stood around with gum hanging out of their mouths while shoot literally went down in the waiting area. They can't do pure breed cuts so forget it if you want a true "breed cut." The store does not carry higher end grain-free brands other than those found at grocery stores. The store is relatively clean and the front staff is friendly. The store has a good supply of toys and accessories. read more

I have been bringing my 2 mini schnauzers here for grooming for about 6 years now. We started out with a groomer and she was wonderful. They always looked great! Then she left for a shop closer to her home. We moved onto another groomer here. She was nice. Very personable & the girls liked her. After a while we weren't so happy. They started to look like they were rushed through. Soon she left also. The last year has been a series of groomers coming & going. Tuesday I decided they would get one more chance. We met Taylor. A very professional young guy. I was so pleased!! The girls looked amazing! The best I have seen them in a while. We booked with him again for next time. I hope he is still there!! read more

This is the only PetSmart I go to. There's another that is about 15 minutes closer to my house, but the Rockaway location is so much better. The staff is mega friendly, very accommodating, and knowledgeable. But I'm really hear to write about their killer grooming salon. My little Sandy is 14 years old and weighs about 5 or 6 pounds. That being said, she's fragile! She's got long hair, which can get matted quickly, and sometimes you have to be easy with her when you try to de-matt her hair. Being that old, Sandy doesn't really like groomers. They're often a little rough with her and she'd sometimes come home with a nick or two. I brought Sandy into the PetSmart grooming salon to this wonderful girl named Jennifer. And let me say, Sandy has NEVER been so nicely groomed! Jennifer got out all the mats behind her ears, cleaned up her face, and clipped her toenails with NO nicks. I even asked if Sandy was nice (again... she can be old and grouchy) and Jennifer told me she had no issues with Sandy! I've been bringing Sandy to Jennifer for the past two years and I'll never let anyone other than her groom my dog. What a pleasure! read more

This is a great place to shop for dog toys. It is nice to bring my dog in for a 5 minute nail trim, we pick out a toy and we are on our way. The only complaint I would have is with the grooming salon. It takes them 3 hrs to do a basic bath and brush for a 37lb dog. They are also inconsistent with the level of clean... i think they dont take the time to fully rinse the coat. BUT, I still prefer them over other pet store groomers (Petco). read more

Shame on petsmart for wanting an easier adoption process. I applaud 11 th hr for showing the public how very little petsmart charities care for the animals. I've actually rescued cats that were adopted from petsmart and given to people who i would never adopt to. I'd understand if 11th hr treated their animals poorly but that's simply not the case. Rescues help petsmart generate more people a nd business. So the rescue helps the business more in my opinion. In every Petsmart ive been in I've seen the tiny space reserved for cats. .in my opinion that's INHUMANE. Especially when there is no room f or the cats to play and or stretch. So save the bs you sell to people when you claim to care. The RESCUES care not PETSMART. Above all, i am a customer first. This Pet Smart is so amazing, not only do they have everything I need but the staff is so friendly and the store is very clean .. we bought a new finch today and were v ery happy to be able to bring him to our beautiful homew to meet his queen :D ... Thank you Pet Smart..... you so rock. Oh and no mroe Budlake pet smart for me...... though the staff was nice....... they didnt have any birds at all hardly any animals and Rockaways got so much more ....!!! We love getting our English bulldog Max groomed there. They are so friendly as soon as we walk in. We usually see Romina who is absolutely FANTASTIC with our dog. She gives us the best tips and advice on how to get in between his folds ect. Every time she grooms him, you can tell that she took her time because he always looks squeaky clean from head to tail :) Not to mention, he is in love with her and has a hard time trusting people. Romina is kind, patient, takes care of him like he is her own and had such a wonderful personality and is filled with positive energy!! read more

We've taken our 95-lb mixed breed dog here many times. As another person said, in the beginning she was shiny and smelled wonderful. As time went by, it got harder and harder to get an appointment on a weekend--the only time we can--and just this past weekend, after calling week after week, I snagged a Sunday appointment. On Sat. afternoon, I was called on one phone line by someone confirming our appointment and then on another line, by someone else canceling the appointment because the bather wouldn't be in. There was no concern, no apology, and no attempt to offer another appointment. I know she's big and can be nervous, but this is ridiculous. Even before this, we'd taken to bathing her ourselves at a doggy wash near us. Thought we'd give them one more try. Now we are FINISHED. read more

My family has taken all our animals here for their grooming and what not, but when I called two weeks ago to make an appointment for my dog to get a bath and a cut, everything was filled. I was like ok, i guess that makes sense it it 4th of July weekend. So I asked the lady I was talking to and asked it there was any appointments available for the week after. Everything was full. So like the normal human being I am, I laughed, because I found it quite funny. The lady was like " Why are you laughing?? This is no laughing matter!" I said "well I think its funny that I can't find an appointment for my dog a week ahead then I planned". I don't know if she got offended or whatever but she was like "you know what, why don't you call when you grow up!" I was absolutely shocked. After this incident I swore never to get my dogs groomed here. I thought what she said was totally inappropriate, even if she was annoyed with me, she shouldn't have said that. I was being totally friendly and cooperative. Even though there grooming is pretty good, I can never trust my animals with them again. read more
