What an awesome location for all your pet needs! As someone who shops a store like a retail manager (sorry but I use to be), I look for certain things before I even start shopping. I walk the store, look at inventory on the shelves, how it's presented, and if the store is clean and appealing to the customer - not just myself but everyone! This store would have made any district or other higher stakeholder amazed at the level of dedication and care this store and its employees show in this location We came for a simple task - pickup an online order. This isn't clear where to pickup the orders but as I was walking around and got to the fish section, I asked an employee working her stock and she stopped what she was doing, asked my name, and went off to find my order and she brought it right to me vs telling me to go to the front and ask for it there, holding up a line of busy shoppers, and creating negative experience for them waiting on someone else to open a checkout for them to leave. Assertive and proactive employees are the best ones. And Petsmart definitely has good ones. They even opened another line when the current one was getting a bit excessive - a smart move in any store. I was very upset when I went to pick up my dog and saw that she had been nipped. They tried lying and saying that it was a scab that was open up by the clippers when I know for a fact she never had a scab anywhere near that area. I wouldn't have been upset if they were truthful it's just the fact that they tried to lie to me that makes this worse. They also still charged full price and had no remorse. I want to give a shout out to Cayce in the grooming department. She was amazing! We had an appointment at Urban Hound to get our dogs nails trimmed. She has black nails, so I can't trim them. She was badly abused before we got her, and is not cooperative about getting her nails trimmed. I gave her a sedative before we went to Urban Hound, but the woman that used to do her nails was no longer there, and the new person refused to do them. Since she was already sedated, I wanted to get this over with! I called and Cayce told me to bring her right in. She was great with our girl, and had her done in less than 15 minutes - less trauma for our girl. I so appreciated her help and her expertise! we know where we will be going from now on! I also purchased a new collar for her while we were there. read more

I have gone to PetSmart grooming a few times and most times are great, I brought my two dogs in for a regular bathing and TY had the worst attitude and very disrespectful towards me. I have had this issue more than once with her and the first time I gave grace because sometimes people just have bad days. But after having the same disrespect and attitude the second time I had enough. Be careful picking who you let groom your dogs. read more

We have brought our dog in twice for grooming. Both times they said they were unable to do the whole service we ordered. The 1st time the lady removed the additional charge because she didnt want us to pay for a service we didn't receive. The 2nd time around (today) the lady charged us for the whole thing even though she didnt do the work. The original estimate of time was 1.5 hrs, then when we came to pick up the dog they said they need another hour - then called 20 minutes later and said they were done but hadnt completed the ordered services. Pick up the dog and nails and teeth were not done, and she still smells like she did when we dropped her off. Not sure if they did anything at all. I will be finding a different groomer. If they can't handle doing the work then they have no business accepting the customers or taking our money. Very unhappy. read more

I've gotten my dog groomed many, many times in the 4 years I've had him. I usually try to go somewhere local but I couldn't get an appointment in on time so I decided to go to PetSmart because they had availability - never again. My dog was a bit matted, which I totally agree too. I mentioned it at the time I made my appointment. I came in and mentioned it again. He has been matted a couple times in the past, and I've never had a bad experience shaving him before. His hair is super prone to matting, even though I brush him everyday. I typically get his haircut ever 8-10 weeks which keeps him from matting but this time I went longer and so the Matts were there. He gets the worst matting on his back and chest where his harness lies, due to it always rubbing. So anyway, I go in and sign the matting paper work and am charged an extra $30 for matting (I never have been charged extra before anywhere else I've been). This brought my total up to over $90. Part of the paperwork did mention he might bruise due to matting. This I thought was weird because he's never gotten bruised from a shave before. I also had to sign a waiver saying that if anything went wrong, I accepted the fact that they would take him to the Vet that they have in PetSmart. The groomer asked me what I was wanting so I told her I wanted a full shave but to leave his face and tail hair longer. She rubbed her hands through his fur and said "yeah he has some matting on his back and chest so we will need to shave, but his face has no matting so we can definitely keep that" cool. I show up 3 hours later and his entire body, face, and tail is completely shaved off. He has noticeable bruises on his back. I still tipped 18% because although it wasn't what I asked for and I was definitely upset, they still did shave him which is what I mainly cared about. This made my total for his haircut over $100 at this point. I get home and notice he was licking like crazy in his groin area. I figured it was just itchy from a new haircut and ignored it for a couple of days. I finally took a look when the licking didn't subside and noticed he had what looked like a sore. I took him back to PetSmart where I asked them if it was normal. They said "i don't know what that is" I said "ok.... he didn't have this problem before his haircut, and I've never had this problem with any other haircut in the past". They said "uhh sorry... take him to the vet?" Not offering to even get him checked at the vet, In PetSmart, that they originally had me sign a waiver too. Kinda annoying but fine, so I asked if I could at least get a cone. They told me "uh well you can buy one, aisle 27". They couldn't even bother getting me a cone for something that happened during the haircut. So I go to aisle 27, and buy a $45 cone. I had a vet friend take a look at his sore and said that they believed it was a burn from a hot clipper not being changed out, and that it caused irritation leading to my dog licking. So in total, I spent over $100 on a haircut that didn't match what I asked for, $45 for a cone, and had to have a vet visit. In addition to all of this, my dog couldn't poop for THREE DAYS because every time he attempted to squat, he felt discomfort and would just sit down instead. After using a cone and getting the sore under control, he has been able to go #2. I always hear horror stories on social media about PetSmart grooming but have never had an issue so I ignored them. Well, I learned a valuable lesson. read more

I wondered why the rating for this store was so low and it seems like grooming is the main problem. I've never used that service so this is for cat-related stuff. Petsmart always feels a little dingy to me, not sure why, but it is clean and they have a good selection of food, treats, and litter for cats. They also let me return food my cat rejected, which I appreciated- that money added up as I searched for a food he could eat. I got prescription food there thanks to Banfield so that made it a lot easier than Petco when I needed things last minute. I like to order online and pick up, though I go into the store. Today there was a long line and I was very happy to avoid it! They have good sales so it's worth checking back if you see something and it's too much. They just had Da Bird toys half off! But they sold out fast. read more

We bought a pet fountain for our dog and cat. It was their Christmas gift and to see if this would eliminate my cat's whisker stress. It's a real thing and super ridiculous. I am sure only first world cats get this. Anyways... The fountain was running nice and smooth for about two weeks and then the motor went out. Luckily, we kept the box, but tossed the receipt. I read on the Petsmart website that they were able to do a return with just the packaging, so we dried out the fountain, put it and the directions back in the box and went to the store. The cashier looked up our Petsmart account by our phone number, printed out a copy of the lost receipt and handled our refund. We were in and out of the store in three minutes and our pup got a treat. While I am bummed out that the pet fountain was a dud, I am impressed with the speed and professionalism that came with our return. read more

It's reasonably priced, clean, the employees are helpful and friendly && their point system for being a member is generally one of the very few businesses that's actually worth it in my opinion. You gain points quickly && you're able to use them towards in store/online purchases according to your points. I'm pretty sure you're able to start using your points once you reach as little as $1 (1,000pts) which is nice because there are a TON of business with point systems.... (I'm talking big time companies) and if you're trying to get the most bang for your buck you may as well get in the ring && get ready to wrestle them for it. A few months ago, my wife stopped in to get some dental bones and bought extra for the buy-three and get one "free" deal. So she tossed them on the counter, and as she was standing there, spotted some other inexpensive novelty item for a buck or so, I don't recall what it was now, but there is always plenty of inexpensive things near the register for you to throw in, right? Well, the dollar-and-some-change item was considered free, not the fourth bag of dental bones, which was ~$20. I gathered everything up after we realized what happened and went in to have it corrected. It was explained to me that, "yeah it picks the least expensive item." Why? Because they don't give a damn about their customers or their money and because -of course- they set it up that way. The manager and I stood there, I suppose he was waiting for me to take that answer, I didn't have the inexpensive item with me, I'd forgotten it. "Okay, well I don't live far away, I'll go get it and return all the bags and just take my business somewhere else." Mind you, I'm very polite about all this, I'm all smiles, I know the cashier isn't to blame or the manager before me. He's doing what he is paid to do. He eventually succumbs to his HUMAN side and decides the right thing to do in this case is to make the fourth bag of dental bones "free." While I received a resolution to my issue, it stuck with me how PREDATORY and ANTI-CONSUMER such a policy is. I was willing to spend my time getting my ~$20 because we -needed- it, but what about all the hapless customers who don't notice or just shrug their shoulders and let it go? I'll never spend my money at a PetSmart ever again and will actively encourage others not to as well, or at least double and triple check your receipts since they're trying to pull some shady stuff to get more of your money. read more

After the last few visits, I came back again hoping things would go a little differently. They did not! I have shorthair dogs that don't really need a beauty shop. They need their nails done. The last few times we have come here, one, or both of the dogs have had bleeding paws. Completely unacceptable! One would think that if you do something for a living, you get better at it. Apparently not so here! So, I am through! Not coming back here no-mo! There are plenty of places in Reno and Sparks for nails! I highly suggest you find a different place, for your dogs' sake. I'm setting up an appointment for the big dog to get his nails done at BARING BLVD. PET HOSPITAL. Apparently, I'll have to get my second dogs paws done again, since they did such a poor job here. Some nails bleeding, others too long! UPDATE: Well, it has been nine days now, and my poor dog is still limping from the horrible nail job she was given! I just got off the phone with the grooming manager, Casey, who told me that all of the techs get hands-on training! Which means, if your dog is the next victim, oh well! That's how we train our techs! That's what hands-on means! My dog will be seeing the veterinarian this week to try to fix her paw! This place is a hit and miss! My dog is my best friend like many people. I wanted to get her trimmed up for a trip I'm taking her on. So I brought her to this pet smart and showed them a photo of my other dog and asked if they could make her look like that. The women said yes and I left. Right off the bat I had a bad feeling. One groomer was eating a sandwich while grooming a dog. Another lady was yelling at a little dog for pulling away. And the lady that checked me in didn't see very friendly or attentive to my concerns. I got my dog back completely shaved to the point where I can't take her on my trip anymore cause her skin is too exposed. I would also like to mention she is a Pomeranian. It's so hard for me to look at my dog without crying now. Her soft fur is now poky and hard to touch. This has been the worst experience ever. I pray to god her hair grows back. read more

This a wonderful pet supply store. When I went in today there wasn't any other customers so it was great. I really enjoy a store all to myself. I agree with the argument that rawhide is very bad for your dogs digestive system. They had several different types of "No Hide" treats. A worker said that I could return the product if my dog didn't like it. Very cool. Also, when I went to check out with my $$$ dog food I was chatting with the sweet sales clerk and she gave me price matching on the food, way cool again. The store was huge, very clean and well organized into the different pet sections, so everything was really easy to find. I literally can't bring my dog here since he gets insanely excited and would rip my arm out of the socket :) all the smells make him sooo happy. Update: Casey from this location called me about my complaint. She started off the conversation saying that she heard I was not happy because all of the nails were not trimmed as I wanted them. When I let her know that I was more concerned about the quick that was cut - and that I was not told about it - she went right into excuses that they are not obligated to tell us when that happens, and it is not a big deal, and we've all done it. She did mention that it is the preferable thing to let the owners know when that happens, but reiterated there is no obligation to do so. Since she never apologized and just came back with excuses to everything I had to say instead of showing any empathy or understanding, I let her know I did not find the call productive and that I was done with the conversation. So, my question is if it is preferable that groomers tell owners when they make a mistake - especially one that is painful to the pet! - why is it not policy? And why is it OK to have a sign up asking for tips (which I have always found rude, even as I succumb to the pressure of tipping) if the groomers are going to be unethical and misleading while they put their hand out for a fat un-deserved tip?? At this point it appears I will not get any resolution (or even an aology) from Petsmart, but maybe at least someone out there will benefit from this and take their dog to a groomer that actually cares about doing the right thing. read more

STAY AWAY & NEVER GET YOUR ANIMALS GROOMED HERE! I took my dog to get a trim for the summer, he's a two coated breed which means you cannot cut the undercoat because that is what controls his body temperate. The groomer (Wendi) disregarded what I asked for and put my dogs health at risk by shaving his entire undercoat. As a groomer you need to listen to your costumers request and you especially need to do what's right for the dog, NOT what's easiest because you're lazy and want a quick job done. After reaching out to management I was offered a refund however after that the management really did not care about the situation at all. They claimed there was "miscommunication" but in reality my groomer was just lazy and didn't care that she put my dogs health permanently at risk. Giving me a refund doesn't fix the permanent damage Wendi caused. Ridiculous. The groomers, management and everyone here doesn't actually care about your fur babies, they just want your money. Always very helpful and friendly!! I'd like to give special ty to Pam. She is a reptile and fish specialist!! She has been super helpful to my son and I, during the picking out of a fish and more recently a bearded dragon! Pam goes WAY above & beyond and deserves a big fat raise! The other girls there are equally as helpful & friendly. Pam has 2 bearded dragons of her own, so her advice was excellent, as this is my 11 yo sons first reptile. We feel very well prepared after talking with her many times about what we needed. read more
