TL;DR avoid Jenna.. the other staff we've had are great. I arrived a few minutes early to my appointment bc when I booked, they told me that one of my dogs needed some documentation. Jenna greeted me with: well you're here before your groomer, and I can't check them in, because I can't be responsible, so you'll need to wait. I said okay... Then, she said, you won't be able to drop them off together bc one of your appointments is for now and one is for an hour from now. I explained that in the past, I've always dropped them off together, and they hold one while they groom the other..Because I live twenty minutes away, it doesn 't make sense to go back and forth for each dog separately. She told me, she didn't think that would be possible because she wasn't sure if our groomer would have other dogs that she needed to have there... which doesn't make sense...I've seen them hold a bunch of different dogs while they're doing the grooming and waiting for owners to show up and pick them up. The other staff I've met are all great... hopefully they'll give her some customer service training! read more

I phoned ahead to schedule an grooming appointment on 8/20; they told me I have to come in 7-9am as they want to do cats before any dogs get there. That's okay. I showed up at 8am sharp and they said they don't have any cat groomers there for today. ? Never book here. A complete waste of my time after I Phoned in to schedule and confirm an appointment. P.S. Be careful. The PetSmart in New Castle double charged our credit cards and refused to credit back the extra charge. I had to report it to my credit card company. After many calls and emails, the store manager claimed it was my fault because I paid on line and the store didn't know it. She never took responsibility for their actions and acted like I needed to come back to the store and resolve the issue for them. How crooked can someone be? Double check your receipts, purchases, and services. Now I dont know if they actually fulfilled the contracted treatment for my dog - when you cheat on one thing, other things get put into perspective. read more

The store is inconsistent with stock, pricing and customer service. Bad management or bad training I'm not sure maybe both but there are just a few employees who truly engage & help. It seems that staff is generally in "the back" as cashier lines pile up and customers go in search of help. read more

PetSmart has NO integrity! Manager Aubrey refused to honor an advertised sale price because they didn't carry enough stock to cover buy two get one free. How convenient! Is this my fault? I don't think so! Called corporate customer service, waited on hold for 27 minutes, got no satisfaction. Oh, our sales are based on availability... So why have the advertising on the shelf? For grooming My dog had been there before and got a great review from the groomers. He was patient and had no issues. Fast forward a few months later and we explain to them that he's nervous when he meets new people ... just like we did the first time. So what happens? The fresh-faced groomer immediately squats down to his level and reaches over him to do the pre-grooming check and he nips her (didn't break skin). Immediately we're told they have to cancel the appointment because the "new corporate policy" is that they don't accept "aggressive dogs." Mind you, when the groomer came out to greet him, he was trying to hide behind us because he was nervous. Yeah, real aggressive. So I take his harness off and put their harness on him and she immediately squats down to see him. No hand out to sniff, nothing. Just immediately goes to touch him. After the warning about his nervousness and despite him getting a perfect report card a few months ago. This from the same place with the noteworthy dog grooming death on their record. You'd think the training of their groomers would be up to snuff, but it's obviously not. The other groomer there at the time kindly gave me her business card and said we could reschedule with her at a later date. But I won't be going back to this place after knowing what happened in the death of a dog before and seeing that behavior today. Clearly they're not equipped to handle dogs appropriately. read more

Julie at Petsmart grooming took care of Theodore and he walked out looking very smoooooooth with attitude. She did a great job despite her mentioning that he was a very bad boy. Thanks! Don't fret my friends, I did not purchase anything here, just went in to see what it was like. Why would I purchase anything with Petagogy across the way. I'm a bit amazed by how much of a full store they crammed into to such a small space. Everything you would expect to find in a regular sized store is in there. Adoptions, live fish, the vet, and all the animal supplies you can think of. I will say the staff were polite, even though I didn't purchase a single thing. read more

It's been a few months since we lost our 5 yr old betta fish so it was time to adopt another. I did a search of the closest store where I could combine it with dinner out for the evening. This location fit the bill. Parking was a breeze and it was after 6 so I didn't have to feed the meter. This store is very clean both inside and out. The workers are friendly and very responsive if you need help. In the area where the bettas are kept, they had flyers which contained some cool facts and info to help care for them. That's a nice plus in my book. They didn't have a huge selection of fish in the different colors I'm used to seeing at the other stores but we decided on a pretty blue ombre betta, Karma. The area that contains the fish is shared by a guinea pig and bird section. There were no guinea pigs in any of the cages. Maybe they escaped? Hopefully they aren't in any dishes over at Plum. Lol Ok...I'm sorry. Anyway, the birds were blocked by a ladder that wasn't being used. It's a bit of a pet peeve of mine when I go in a store and can't see things because their household items are left out where they do not need to be. Move the stuff over or something. At checkout the cashier took my information for some type if rewards program. I gave her my deets but I would've liked her to explain what this meant. The only info I got was that it was free. So, this will be the go to for more fishy fish in the future and everything else we may need to care for them. read more

For the manager DANA... I just got off the phone with the corporate PetSmart office & the return policy is you CAN return any product, including deceased fish, to ANY location! So not sure if you were aware of the policy since you told me over the phone I had to return them to the purchased store & then was very rude to me & "did me a favor" when I returned them to your location, after another PetSmart told me the correct policy. This review is for the grooming service: I brought my Pem. Welsh Corgi in for grooming, and it was the best grooming service he's received (out of probably 10 so far since I got him as a puppy, he's only 1.5 years old right now). The ladies in the grooming salon were so sweet to him, and they did the furminator shampoo/conditioner everything treatment on him and it was only 2 dollars more. Amazing! I had the furmination treatment done at an actual grooming salon once and my corgi came home shedding like no other. I think they treated him, but never combed out the fur. But here, they did the full service, and he didn't shed for at least a week, which is amazing for a corgi (ie shedding machine). They also trimmed him up perfectly (the corgi bunny but must be trimmed with care!) and he looks great! I'll definitely be taking him back to this store for regular grooming. read more

The young man who helped with my two dogs was phenomenal. He was so patient and kind with my foster dogs that peed on the floor. He deserves a five stars, I wish I could remember his name. It started with a T. HOWEVER, the whole store is so incredibly overpriced. I spent $119 on two retractable leashes and two harnesses. I walked over to target and realize I could've spent $50 for the same thing. Nice staff, but the mark up rate is uncomfortable. read more

My groomer had to cancel our grooming appt for our Bichon. We were 7 weeks since her last cut and desperately needed a visit! I read the reviews here for PetSmart Shadyside and was able to get in the next day. The store was spotless and all staff very welcoming. When I got the grooming area, Ariane greeted us. I explained my dilemma and what my requests were for our little girl. She listened very intently and asked pertinent questions, further making me comfortable about this new experience. After telling me approx. how long session would take, she took my cell number and promised to phone me when she was done. I received a call a little less than the suggested time frame and went to fetch our little one. She couldnt have looked more beautiful! Bichons have certain grooming needs and Ariane took care of things that I hadnt even mentioned! The cost was half of what I pay the private groomer. I would whole-heartedly recommend them for grooming. The location is great, the staff friendly and knowledgeable and if I could get them to carry our preferred dog food brand I wouldn't need to go anywhere else for our pet needs! Five stars for the customer service at this location. As far as the products and pricing go, they are exactly what you would expect from a chain pet store. But I feel that the customer service here (not sure if it's just this location, or a general PetSmart standard) exceeded my expectations! I have come here several times looking for aids for my pup's separation anxiety. I've tried various things that didn't help, but they let me return everything that didn't work and went above and beyond each time in helping me pick something else to try. You can definitely tell that all the people who work here (or at least the ones I've interacted with) are animal lovers. They are always so understanding of my needs and extra sweet to my dog when we come in... there is a canister of treats at the checkout desks and the pups love this. There was one somewhat negative experience I had here, which was when my boyfriend and I were buying Hill's Science Diet kibble and a Hill's representative accosted us and wanted to give us all kinds of information on why Hill's is the best and which type of kibble we should be getting. We were in a hurry and made it very clear we were not interested in chatting...plus, we were already buying Hill's food, so no need to sell us on it! Other than that, I've been very happy with my shopping (and repeated product exchange) experiences here. They've got all your basic pet necessities in one place and friendly, helpful customer service to boot. read more

I had a very disappointing and rude experience with Krista. It my first and last time using their groomers. I had been told if I arrived before 9, press the buzzer and someone would let me in. It was 8:50, the grooming area had 2 groomers, one grooming a dog. It was raining and cold. No one answered and I went to the groomer side and tapped on the window. She gave me a very rude reception. She was angry because it was before 9, I rang the incorrect buzzer and she didn't appreciate someone knocking on her window. Once again I let her know I had been told if early press the buzzer. She was not with a pet, just sitting there so clearly was not going to be interrupted during an appt. She then gave me the release and told me to initial and sign. I asked about what is said and in a disgusted tone and after giving me a very curt response, I let her know I don't sign without reading what I am signing. The grande finale....I was charged more than I was quoted. The store manager did take care of that. read more

Brand new store in a much smaller square footage than your average PetSmart. Since everything is new and shiny, products and services seem to be in place, in good condition, and just as well-priced as one would expect. Some of the cashiers do kind of like miserable, however, in general the staff seems super friendly. My boyfriend and I just got our puppy earlier in the week and that night went to buy a harness and gentle leader. After bringing the items home we realized our pup didn't like having the gentler leader around his snout. We went into the store tonight to get the leader adjusted and the associate suggested a different harness. She immediately took the harness out of the package and fitted it to our pup. She gave us pointers on what to do if he starts pulling. The associates were so patient and helpful. read more

The Banfield Pet Hospital is great but the grooming salon is lacking. I've been coming to this PetSmart for 2 years now and it seems the past few months they have had scheduling/staffing issues. The grooming salon will randomly close or close early and nothing will be posted online regarding the change. The staff is typically very friendly so it's sad to see such a change. I bring all 3 of my dogs here for grooming. I have 2 who are 80 lbs each which makes it impossible for me groom. The techs in the grooming salon are professional and sweet. They are experienced at handling all types of dogs and do a wonderful job. My other dog is a cairn terrier coming in at 15 lbs. She needs to be trimmed regularly and these ladies are experts. They do a wonderful job. I could not be happier. Having this store in the city is great. I don't shop in the 'burbs so being able to go down the street like the rest of the world is a relief. They have everything! I even use their vet services. The staff is very helpful and courteous. They will even offer to help take things out to your car! All in all a super experience. read more

I take my dog here every 6 weeks for the standard bath. It's a great deal, $25ish for a long haired chihuahua. Includes bath, nails, ears. Now they have online booking available which makes it even more convenient. They do a great job every time, and in about 1.5 hours. It's also nice that you can leave your pet for longer even if they finish the grooming, so I'm able to drop her off before work and pick her up after. Just a note, you have to request anal gland emptying if want it done, it's included in the package but not done otherwise. read more

I try to go "independent" with many things; I try avoid chains restaurants and stores as much as possible, but PetSmart's grooming services at this location were one of the best in Pittsburgh. The staff was amazing with my dog who can get a bit nervous when people touch his feet. They were calm, understanding, and made sure my dog was comfortable. Unlike other local locations, they had no problem with him and did not use a muzzle. I did not purchase anything from the store itself, but I will continue to use their grooming services. read more

we have purchased pets and pet supplies from this store. a year ago we got my daughter two gerbils, both 3 months old and sisters. the people working were very helpful with assisting us in choosing a quality cage, supplies, etc. but it was clear they weren't exactly experts on the matter (not their fault, I can't imagine they are paid anything too great, but they clearly did the very best that they could) they were friendly to and talked to my 5 year old daughter. this might not sound too big of a deal, but I can't tell you how many times my chatterbox has tried to have a conversation with employees of other businesses and they flat out ignore her or interrupt her, etc. recently we got a dog from the humane animal rescue. so we came here to buy dog food, make a name tag, etc. we were able to find everything we needed, and their prices were typically the same as other stores. the name tag machine worked great and wasn't too expensive. you only have to pay for the tag itself, which is usually around $10. the parking situation is great, and there is always a place to park in the shaded parking. I cannot speak to the quality of the animal hospital or the groomer, as we have never used them. I do wish that petsmart would change the ways they use employees. I wish they would have individual employees who are heavily trained regarding certain animals. this person is an expert on things regarding rodents, this person is an expert on fish, this person is the expert on cats, etc. I feel like this way every employee wouldn't be scrambled to know small bits about every animal. read more

This review is for the grooming department. We have a Yorkie who is not yet a year old. The service we received has never been great but the last time was a disaster. I have them use my gentle puppy shampoo and conditioner because his skin is sensitive (though they have mistakenly spritzed him with their horrific cologne afterwards twice - which negates the whole purpose for the gentle products I bring). When I came to pick him up this last time, I saw two dark tear stain down the side of his nose coming from each inner eye. He has never had tear stains so I looked up cause of this and one reason said improper grooming. I also noticed he would pull away and was extremely scared anytime we would touch his feet which makes me think they must have hurt him when trimming his nails. A few days after this last grooming we noticed green discharge from his right eye, he had been rubbing it with his paw so it must have been causing him discomfort. We brought him to the vet and our vet asked where we brought him for grooming. When we told her Petsmart, she said NEVER bring your animals there. She gave me a name of a reputable groomer and put him on antibiotic eye drops. The eye is still infected after treating him with the full prescribed course. We have another appointment with the vet. read more

horrible customer service , after my dog had been groomed there once 7 months ago i called to make an appointment and was shocked that i was told the soonest one wasnt available for 11 days , then was even more shocked that the price went up 24.00$ dollars since last visit . I asked to speak to manager and was told okay , well when the so called manager got on the phone she just said 'oh that's corporate' . I then asked your the manager of grooming salon and thats the best you can tell me? She the said oh im the retail manager the salon manager is on vacation for the next month....ahhh ok whatever seems to me like im being priced gouged 66.00 to simply groom a 18lb dog with little fur is absolute joke. As a long time customer I was disappointed in the manner that the manager of the grooming salon handled a matter involving a express fee service charge. When I made the booking for my 2 dogs, I was told about their new policy with regards to pugs or other small breeds that you must pick them up immediately when they're done Since my other dog is a Shitzpoo, The attendant suggested that I use the express service on her but did not advise me of the extra service fee. I only wanted to bring this to her attention so that another customer would not be surprised of the additional charge. I even ask the booking agent if there would be a reduction in the amount of grooming and she stated no so I said yes to the express service. Both of my dogs were ready at the same time upon pickup. The manager didn't seem to believe me but did State she would talk to her and then said she talked to her this morning which was bizarre.
