I had a 4 pound, 10 week old puppy that I wanted to continue feeding the same food as the breeder had her on. I purchased 15 small containers of Great Value pate packets. My dog did not eat well for several days and had to be given fluids at the vet. I took a look at the containers of food and they were all outdated by well over a year. This could have killed such a tiny dog. I took the remaining containers back and asked to speak to a manager. Someone came up and listened to me and said, oh ok, we will refund for these. I brought back 9 and she credits me for 6. Just the frosting on the cake. I strongly suggested they check each container on the shelf for expiration dates. She never apologized. I had a sick puppy who could have died. The only information she asked me for was the dogs name and my phone number. I think at least an apology from headquarters would have been in order. Last week I returned to buy more food and a gentleman asked if I needed help. I said I was checking the dates on the food and proceeded to tell him what happened. He was a manager and implied I was lying as they have no female managers. I said perhaps the person sent to speak to me was not a manager even though I requested one. He was defensive and stated if this actually had happened that they have a certain protocol and form to fill out. I said she took my dogs name and my phone number down on a post it note. I had a scary experience with an outdated product and he has the nerve to question my facts. Disappointing. I have been a PetSmart customer for many years. This was inexcusable. read more

The grooming salon was extremely helpful. They were able to fit me in today to get my dog groomed. They even took the time to transfer his records from the Desert Ridge location. I wanted to get my Aussie mix a Summer Shave. Holley the groomer did an unbelievable job! She was super nice, and Jax looks incredible! I will definitely take Jax back to see Holley. The location is easy to find and located in a big plaza with Whole Foods. I've purchased Natural Balance Vegetarian Formula Dog Food from here before but it's not always in stock. Would LOVE to see more vegan dog options like rawhide free bones, food without dead animals in it, and toys that don't have things like duck or liver added in for "flavor." I've been taking our little dog to this petsmart location for over a year with very few issues...well that didn't last... While traveling I called to make a bath appointment for my dog the and day. No problem bring Alice in at 5pm. I asked if my son could drop her early so he could pick me up at the airport...no problem. My son drives from Tempe to north Scottdale to pick up my dog from the boarding facility only to be turned away at Petsmart. I also received email confirmation of appointment. They couldn't find her on the books. I then try to call and make appt and complain and get the run around....pretty much they took no responsibility for the screw up and said too bad we're booked for a week...too bad Petsmart when business is slow when March is over I will not be back in your store. I would not purchase another lizard or any animal from PetSmart. Unfortunately the level of knowledge about the animals they sell is sorely lacking. Too many animals are kept in an enclosure and this can lead to rampant spread of disease. read more

I am absolutely disgusted. Every single time I come into Petsmart I leave in tears. Petsmart does not care for or care about the animals that they supply to the public. I went in to look at the animals and I was flabbergasted and disgusted by what I saw. In a case that was probably about ten gallons (WAY TO SMALL) I saw two Syrian hamsters one of them was dead. I went and got an employee and explained very kindly to him that Syrian hamsters are very solitary. Once they reach sexual maturity (4-6 weeks) they will attack one another and sometimes fight to the death. The employee did nothing. I was not okay with that so I went up to a second employee and once again stated the facts. She took the case out of the display to deal with the hamster. I told her that this is not ok and that even though they may be siblings once they reach maturity they will fight. I told her and a couple other employees that came to help that if they work at a pet store they should know this. She replied with "It's a pet store sometimes it happens." I literally started crying because this is awful and I couldn't stand to hear her try to defend Petsmart's inhumane ways of caring for their animals. If I could give this place a negative -100 star rating believe me I would. I have seen so many negative reviews and experiences about how awfully Petsmart treats there animals and I am confused as to why it is still open. Petsmart needs to be shut down. read more

Pet hotel. We boarded our gsp for 3 days. Upon our return of course got a report card that things went so well and he was good. He peed a ton when we got him outside and it was very yellow making us think he didn't get much water. He had diarrhea before even getting him home. After bringing him home he went right to sleep which is abnormal as he's 19 months old and full of energy. He slept a good 6-7 hours in which we tried to feed him. He threw up everything he had in his system and continued with pure liquid diarrhea. Around 10pm he began throwing up blood and a lot of it. We had to rush him to the Er he had to have blood work and X-rays then stay over night. I now have a $1400 vet bill for boarding him. I am very upset and unhappy and expect petsmart to pick up the tab. There is no way he didn't show signs of being ill while he was there for how sick he was when he got home. I wish I could give zero stars. read more

I LOVE this store. Yes, it is like all the other Petsmarts, but the staff and services are awesome. The staff are super knowledgeable and caring. The dog training classes are wonderful! Our dog Rugby is a bit unfocused and hyper, and Suzanne, our trainer, was perfect with him. Even when I was losing faith in Rugby, she saw potential. She was there when we adopted him from HALO and walked us around the store helping us determine what to buy. She also trained Rugby in beginner and intermediate, and even got him from the PetsHotel for his classes while we were on our honeymoon. Suzanne is great and, thanks to her dedication, Rugby is now a canine good citizen. PetHotel: AMAZING service. We had to leave the "kids" here for almost three weeks when we were on our honeymoon. My cat, Pumpkin, is usually awful when boarded, and she had a great time. Rugby, our dog, also did well. When he got a little depressed, they sat on the floor and hand fed him. Every time I take him to the store now I have to take him to the PetHotel to say hi to his friends. PetHotel is fairly affordable for boarding and your pets will get lots of personal attention. Banfield, the Pet Hospital: A great value, esp. with the wellness plans. I bring Rugby and my cat Pumpkin here. The vets are great, very attentive and thorough. This store really distinguishes itself with its outstanding staff and services. Even if it is a drive, it is worth it to come here. Skip the Scottsdale Rd - FLW madness and shop here. read more

This PetSmart is tucked away in the Whole Foods shopping center, next to a running shoes store and yoga place. The shopping center itself can get pretty crowded but there always seems to be parking near the PetSmart. Luckily, that means it hasn't been too busy the few times I've gone. The inside is laid out nicely and rather clean. The employees have been helpful and quick. I'd definitely come back to this location. Do not go here!!! Jessica Lazarz, who manages the boarding kennel is grossly incompetent and unprofessional. I used to board here all the time. The last time I brought my two Springer Spaniels, one came out with a bad cut on her foot that was bleeding and had to be stitched up. They were nice about taking care of that. I am not sure how, but accidents happen. THE NEXT TIME THEY WERE TERRIBLE, and this was under Jessica's watch! I made a reservation before going to California. The S.O.P. is that they call my vet to verify vaccination records. The morning I was to bring them in I called to confirm that everything was OK. They hadn't called the vet yet so I gave the vet phone number, my phone number. The women on the phone was rude and told me to go to the vet and get the paperwork myself. I told her that in the past they had usually called, we had been doing this for years. She said, "Yah, I'll do it in my spare time!" I asked for her to call me if there was a problem. No call. I pack my suitcases (on the way to California), put the dogs in the car and head off to drop them off before I go to the airport. I get to PetSmart and no one can find my reservation. I remember how rude the woman had been on the phone but everyone here was nice. I can't imagine these nice girls talking like that women. They took care of it and rebooked me. Then out of the back emerges Jessica Lazarz. "I made the reservation." She said "and that is why you don't see it. I made a mistake and we can't take you." (The last time we were there one of my dogs got injured while she was in the kennel. I think she was scratching on the fencing and there had to have been something sharp on the fence to have cut her, but no one would tell me how she got injured. They have a vet on sight and had to pay to stitch her up. She had a bandage that went up the full length of her leg. They also gave us a discount on the kenneling cost.) Little did I know that now there is a notation in the computer not to take us back because of this. HOWEVER NO ON EVER TOLD US! They allowed me to make a reservation! I scheduled enough time to drop my dogs off and to go to the airport. When I got there Jessica told me she wouldn't take Brooke and Dyno because of what it said in the computer. Panic!! She needed to have told me this before I arrived at PetSmart to allow me to make other arrangements. I felt like I was talking to a child, she had accepted my reservation, she had my phone number if there were any problems, didn't she understand she had a responsibility? I stood in the middle of the store, holding my two dogs, with customers staring at me, while she told me that she refused to accept my dogs, knowing I had a plane to catch. There are two dogs named Dyno that regularly book with PetSmart, she said. She thought we were the other family. She booked me under their name. When I said that I left my last name and number so she should have called me, she said yes, it was her fault but she didn't realize at first it was the other Dyno so she thought she could book us. (At some point she did though, why didn't she call me?) The interesting thing is, she said she called our vet. Remember, she had to call the vet to check on Bordetella and Parvo etc. So I asked her did the other "Dyno" also use Pinnacle Peak Vet? She said yes. My vet always asks for the last name. If she had called the vet and asked for Dyno's vaccination history, she would have had to have given our last name, and the other dog, Brooke.The names would not have matched with the mystery "Dyno" in her PetSmart records. There would have been no mix-up. My contention is that she never called the vet. If that is the case, and if she had accepted Dyno and Brooke, she would have done so without knowing their vaccination history. It is impossible to have called my vet and still have gotten my name and Brooke's name wrong. At this point, I said, no matter the excuses, the fault lay with her. As a professional she had to take responsibility for her actions and rectify them. I was standing there with two dogs, a flight to catch and a long history of boarding with PetSmart. I explained what had happened with Dyno getting injured last time. "I am fine not coming again but, please, I have a flight to catch and you have put me in an impossible situation by accepting reservation and not calling me back to tell me that you can't take my dogs with no advance notice. This is not how a professional business person acts." When I tried to talk to the manager she insisted she was the manager and when I finally pushed it she admitted she wasn't but wouldn't contact the store manager. We broke all speeding laws going to another kennel and barely made our flight. If we had missed that flight I would be holding PetSmart and Jessica accountable for those fees. Hey fellow reviewers...if you're reading reviews for this location, be prepared for any critical remarks to mostly center around the grooming/kennel services-I can't attest to their quality myself, but I do have a complaint that centers around unprofessional and rather crass assistance in the fish department...so, buckle up gang! I've had my eye on the little goldfish swarming about in the tanks by where the crickets are kept for quite awhile, y'know the little 13 cent buggers who're good for a kids first fish since...well you know how dependable kids are at taking care of living things....ANYWAYS, I finally work up the courage to ask for some help in picking one out, and I already had one I wanted all set in my mind (one of the white ones with the gold spots, they look like they'd be great buds to me) now I'm an overly anxious person, I don't usually seek out help and wait to be approached, but as I'm sure we've all experienced there's only an abundance of assistance when you don't want or need it...getting onwards to my gripe here; One of the workers approached me (much to my relief) and asked if I needed help. Exuberantly I replied with 'yes! I'd like to pick out a goldfish' to which he replied with a query of 'okay, what kind of tank will you be putting it in?'...I was a little befuddled, usually when wanting to purchase a fish at any other pet store, I'm not asked this. Granted the person probably wanted to assure the fish (however cheap) was properly cared for, and I respected that...but to my stuttering reply of 'oh, a tank with a filter...' I got this long somewhat condescending response of how a fish should be properly cared for. Now, again I can understand the interest in assuring a pets care, but again usually these people are nice enough to trust that you know what you're doing. Further...I was spoken down to as if I was an incomplete boob that knew absolutely nothing about fish, and left feeling as if the person was speaking to someone they thought was mentally challenged. I only say this because he ended this long speech by suggesting I pick up a 'Betta fish' instead because they were quote...'pretty' WOA...I mean, wow...what short bus did you think I was dropped off here from?! Firstly, I already have 25 Betta fish (yep...it's true) secondly, I know about fish care from freshwater to salt water aquariums, I don't need to be lectured by a pet store clerk about it. Thirdly...I see how deplorable some stores let their conditions get for some of their fish, and I've NEVER let my guys tanks get that bad. Lastly, if he's so damned concerned about these 13 cents fishes comfort and well being...WHY prey-tell are there like a hundred all crammed in one tank, usually with one that looks like it's barely alive just gliding about before it finally gives up on life and the other fish start picking at it?!!!! Seriously where does this guy get off?!!! It just felt to me I was being regarded in a somewhat narrow minded, presumptuous manner that I did -not-appreciate. It left me feeling soured, upset, and frankly just a little bit hurt. There was no consideration or even question to that I knew what I was doing, that yea, I've had a fish or two and I really enjoy them...no, I was addressed like a complete and utter idiot. After that I just wanted to leave, which I did, and frankly, I have no desire to return there whatsoever. Fortunately, I have no need too, I can take my business to smaller fish shops and support them for a change, which I did. Not far from this location was a little pet store that had some nice little tetras, which I purchased with naught even a derisive sniff from the cashier. I love this place! Yesterday I brought my scared little dog to their doggy day camp and she loved it! Instead of being full of energy and ready to play for hours after my long day at work, she was all tuckered out! Apparently after horsing around all day with her new boyfriends Jake and Monte. (she didnt tell me this, it was on her report card I recieved when I picked her up!) I could tell it was a successful day when, as we walked out of the store, her tail was wagging and her head was held high. (When I dropped her off this morning it was exactly the opposite). The staff was great and even gave me a full report on her progress when I called to check in around mid- afternoon. I also found that if you want salon services the will take them to the grooming area after or during supervised play and then put them in their "room" until you pick them up! I love it! I will most certainly be back to this store for supplies, toys and best of all doggy day camp! read more

I'm a big fan of the groomers here! I was very loyal to a groomer in Tempe and PetSmart changed my mind. My sweet little doggy is taken care of so well here. The groomers make him feel calm and less nervous. They do a great job listening to my instructions and always make him look great. I appreciate the doggy mess bags in the parking lot too! read more

Worst day camp!! This is the second time I used them in 3 weeks, first time went well and this time was not worth the money at all!!! I am going to spare the name of the person who I dealt with but she knows who she is. When I picked up my 2 dogs tonight I asked how did they do. She replies, Diesel did well but Bentley spent most of the day on 'timeout' she said within 10 min he started a a fight so they put him on timeout. I gave her a look and asked a clarifying question, so he was in a kennel all day. She said yes most of the day, maybe we try him here on a less busy day. I said ok, how am I suppose to know what a less busy day is. She said to call and ask them directly not the call center that everyone automatically get's routed to. So again, I ask, I spent money for him to sit in a kennel all day and no one thought to call me?! She said, we were really really busy today, had 100 dogs in 4 camps and we were slammed. (this is NOT a customers problem, if that is too many dogs get more help or don't put yourself at max capacity) She said and due to that we couldn't keep our eye on Bentley so we put him in timeout. Really glad I spent money to have him locked up all day. Get TRAINED staff that can watch dogs behavior and know how to correct it vs. just lock them up. Never again am I coming here, this place is a joke! Go support the local people and their daycare and boarding and don't support this place where all they want is your money and don't care about your dog. I wouldn't be so mad if they had just called me to tell me the situation and given me the option to come and pick him up so he wasn't locked up all day in a cement kennel. read more

Shame on you Petsmart Pethotel Leader Jeff Martin ! My daughter in law has worked in the Pethotel faithfully for the past 3yrs and loved her job. She recently got married to her fiancé who is in the Army and she gave you a 2 week notice letting you know that she would be relocating with him to her new home in another state . When they found out his leave was cut short she notified you and told you that she would not able to fulfill her full 2 weeks (by 4 days ) and you tell her she's not rehireable. Is that really Petsmart's policy? If it is I am shocked & sad that Petsmart treats military families like this !!! read more

A little disappointed in the pet hotel. My puppy is a boxer lab mix. There was no concern when making the reservation, however, when we checked in with the hotel we were advised she would not be allowed to play with other dogs because she had "traits/looks of a bully breed". This left us left without a safe comfortable place to leave our puppy. The only solution we were offered was to pay an additional $25 a day for 2-15 min walks. We only had a few hours to find an alternative. read more

This review is in regards to my personal experience with the PetHotel at Mayo Manager, Jeff. I have dealt with him many times in the multiples visits I have taken my dog to stay overnight or at Doggy Day Camp. He is the absolute worst person I've ever seen/dealt with in any customer service interaction I've ever had, and I work at an actual local Resort! He's unbelievably rude, brash and can not believe he is still employed there. How on earth would any person want to leave their beloved pet in the hands of someone like this?? He never smiles, says hello or make you or your dog feel welcome. I've heard him argue with other grooming employees in front of customers, including myself. Just this morning, I dropped my dog off for day camp and a groom and while the agent was helping me, they told me I had to go over to the grooming salon to fill out paperwork, which isn't normal, everything is usually there for me to sign. When I tried clarifying what I had to do, he YELLS from his office, "You HAVE to go to the grooming salon, I don't know what's going on with our printer!!" He doesn't even have the decency to come out and apologize for the small inconvenience??After this mornings' interaction, I have decided to take my business elsewhere and be sure to let as many people possible know, not to take your dog there. I don't feel comfortable with my dog being there and hope, for the sake of other people's dogs too, that PetsMart's management decides to make some changes. read more

I was really hesitant bringing our new dog here for her first grooming, as I read a lot of these reviews/horror stories (seems to be the running theme at a lot of the Petsmarts in the Valley). However, I think I was more nervous than Rego was, as everything was fine! Lisa (I think that was her name?) went over everything with me, and even came out to sit down with our little girl to get to know her a little better before taking her back. They originally said to given them 3-4 hours, which I thought was a long time, but they called me after about two and a half to come and get her, looking even better than when I dropped her off! Considering the chop-job that her last owners/groomers gave her, they did a fantastic job here, and did everything that I asked for. I will definitely be coming back! read more

The manager of the salon informed me that information put into the system gets deleted randomly after a few days. This place is full of apparently inexperienced young girls who butchered our maltipoo's cut recently. They told me he needed to be shaved due to matting--didn't realize that meant a cut that is totally uneven, with some areas shaved down to the skin and other areas somewhat puffy. Also the insides of his ears were bright red when we brought him home, apparently from the shaving and overzealous "plucking" that was done. Our dog was shivering and shaking and wouldn't leave his crate for 4 days after this episode. When I called to complain, I got nowhere with the girl on the phone. She certainly didn't offer any explanation or a refund, as their "guarantee" states. Bottom line: find someone who's more experienced and less agressive, for your dog's sake! read more

Our dog had been boarding at this pet hotel for years. Recently, we had many concerns about his care. The last two times he stayed (anywhere from 4-7 days), we were told that he exhibited signs of stress (throwing up, etc.). Our dog, three days before one of these stays, had a clean bill of health from his wellness check up ---yet we were still told that he would not eat and was vomiting. Once he returned home, these apparent issues quickly disappeared. I got a bad vibe and immediately cancelled his pre-scheduled next boarding. Now, he just finished a visit at another Scottsdale pet hotel and he came home happy and healthy! I am glad I followed my instincts. I am not sure what has changed here but it does not feel as clean and loving to my pet as it use to! read more

For the three days that I had a dog, I went here a few times for a couple different things. I had some questions and it took me 5 minutes to find an employees. A few days later I returned mostly everything I previously bought and I was questioned why I was returning my dog. I told them allergies and they told me to get shots or take allergy medicine. Our daughter left her 9 year old rescue border collie in for a bath and left to run an errand. While she was away the groomer determined the dog was "unsteady" and rushed him to Banfield where the vet built a case to frighten the dog owner. She was told her unsteady dog may have symptoms of valley fever. Look, I have walked this dog up to two miles over at least 5 times a week for more than nine months. He is not unsteady! Our unemployed daughter came back to this tale of woe and got sold a $300+ valley fever test she could not afford....and left with a clean dog and despicable waste of money charged to her Visa card. I went to two other Petsmart stores and before I even finished my explanation of what happened at this (mayo) store the employees at both stores on Frank Lloyd wright and Desert ridge said "they're rude over there huh"? Hey take this advice mayo Petsmart employees if you hate your job then quit!!! Your at a pet store where some people actually love their pets, and don't act like an uncaring, negligent, childish jerk! Take your bad attitudes, and sour piss poor knowledge and go home! Banfield- I was sent a free vet coupon by petsmart to Banfield. I called to see if this included a health certificate since I was bringing my dog home for Christmas. They said yes, this would be included for no charge. Long story short it was a bait and switch and I was charged $42 for the certificate. I had a flight in a couple hours and didn't have time to argue. Just be cautious and check your bill before you leave. read more
