As soon as you walk in you can smell the very strong stench of urine and there a very common complaints that dogs get sent home with kennel cough or stinking like pee. I believe it may be due to poor ventilation. they also just have the dogs going potty inside everywhere instead of being taken outside. I saw multiple dogs peeing in the building. We did not follow through with our boarding booking. I would not recommend booking here for sanitization and health concerns for your pups. I highly recommend that you visit the location and see if it is up to your standards before bookings. I was able to find a last minute boarding service with S&B Kountry Kennel. This location had proper clean kennels and huge yards for the dogs to be let out to play. They are also staffed with great trainers.

Why on Earth would I want to adopt another animal from this facility given the gross negligence? What respectable animal shelter doesn't confirm/test for these kinds of issues prior to putting an animal up for adoption? I'd also like to add that the front desk staff (the welcome desk, not the folks in the back - they are very friendly) are incredibly rude. Consistently every time I've come in here, the social skills and public service has been horrific. I will no longer be adopting pets from this facility. They set the animals up for failure.

We also recently adopted a dog, the process was easy, the adoption counselors were easy to talk to and took the right steps for the introduction of our resident dogs and the new one. We received a collar and leash, food, all vet records, and information for any problems with behaviors or heath. I want to add that the shelter does a good job of providing enrichment and support for the animals. They make sure to have as many dogs and cats in the individual, quiet kennels as possible, which really helps them relax. The NHS is also a partner with Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, a sanctuary located in Kanab, UT and whose main goal is to help the USA become NO kill. This is HUGE for Omaha!!

When we got our dog almost 3 years ago, I took her to the groomer at this location and they did a fine job but these days I prefer to bathe her myself at Green Spot or Pets Earth. It's cheaper to do it yourself and I don't have to leave her there for a few hours. We also brought her to Introductory and Advanced Training classes with Jessie and she was great! The classes were small so we got lots of one-on-one attention and she really knew her stuff about dog training and nutrition. We buy treats and Blue brand wet food here but I usually buy Fromm dry (which they don't carry) over at the Green Spot. PetSmart is an ideal place to take our dog in lieu of a walk on days when it's cold, snowing or raining so we're there quite frequently. She loves the outing and the staff know her by name!
