This is the best PetSmart that we've been to. We recently rescued a pet and JEN (I believe Is her name) has helped us so many times. We've been having to come to the store every 3-4 days for supplies and she's always there and always helps us. She even knows my daughter by name and my kiddo always looks for her now in the store. She has great customer service and is so polite and always knows just what we need. She's a young gal and has long black hair w/bangs. I highly recommend going to her if you need help. I'm not happy. My dog is a 10 year old small breed, she has long hair and I have to get her groomed a few times per year. This year, I've been frequenting Hollywood Pets in Bermuda Dunes, but Petsmart is closer to my home so I thought I'd give it a shot. This is the first time I've taken her to Petsmart in La Quinta, but I used to take her to Petsmart in another state on a regular basis. 2 hours after dropping her off, they called to let me know she has too much "stress" to groom. Really? Does she need to brush up on her meditation skills or maybe practice deep breathing? She's a frickin' dog! And she doesn't like to go to the vet or the groomers, but we get it done! The dog had not been touched when I picked her up 2 hours later- no bath, no sloppy cuts; it didn't even look like they attempted to gauge her "stress" level. At what point during the 2 hours they had her did they think she was too much to work with? She had an appointment and the groomer had been set to work with her when I arrived. Yet when I show up, he's working on another dog. I could have booked her at Hollywood Pets in those 2 hours and supported local business instead. So that's my rant. You don't have to go to that other place, but if you have the choice, support a local business. And while we are on the subject of local- I'm incredibly disappointed by the lack of choices of products made in the USA. 99% of the toys, treats and leashes in Petsmart are made in China. tsk tsk. read more

After purchasing feeder mice for several years from this location I suddenly walked in to find out policies had changed. Very rudely I was informed by staff that they aren't called feeder mice, they can't sell live mice for that purpose anymore, and I was given a general sneer for even suggesting it. The employee told me I was a liar for even suggesting that I came in two weeks prior to buy a mouse for that exact reason, even though I had. I now take my business elsewhere and receive excellent customer service. Don't waste your time being treated and hassled when there are plenty of better alternatives nearby. read more

If I could give zero stars, I would. We took our poodle to this particular Petsmart a few weeks ago and we were extremely upset with the service that we received. Our puppy, Sport, is such a sweetie and has never had any aggression towards anyone; he's just a happy-go-lucky boy who has a constant smile on his face. We dropped him off and handed him over to a girl who seemed rather rude. Approximately an hour later, we got a call saying that they couldn't finish him and that he was too "stressed" out. When we got to the store, they walked him out and he looked hideous!! They managed to clip his body but his head looked like he had a huge mane! They told us that Sport bit the guy that was clipping him and they couldn't work on him anymore. Baffled, we took him home and examined his horrible hair cut. Upon examination, I noticed this HUGE bruise/burn near his privates. We called petsmart and asked to speak to the manager. We told him about the bruise and He put us on hold for about 15 minutes. He came back on the phone and told us that Sport didn't like high velocity drier on his face (I wish I could put a high velocity drier in HIS face and see if he likes it) and he became difficult to work on, but we could take him back the following day to have his head finished. We took him back but we stayed with him that time. Instead of comping us for the horrific visit, we still had to pay full price!! Poor Sport. We are NEVER taking him back again. read more

I went to La Quinta PetSmart today Saturday June 6th at 3pm. Employee in pet care was awesome. The cashier on 1st main register was very rude. She was abrupt and not pleasant at all. Did not greet me, did not ask how I wanted to pay. I was paying cash. Got upset because she had already pressed pay with card. Didn't ask if I wanted a bag or a receipt. Thrust my bag at me when done and didn't say anything else. Just turned to next customer. I usually shop Palm Desert PetSmart. I won't be back to this location because of this woman. Would of given it a 0 if I had the option! I've actually been here 2 or 3 times prior to yesterday and had no problems, even use to buy my girls food and toys in this location. Took my girl in yesterday to get her nails trim, showered and groomed. The total came out to $50some. I even tip Carmen $20 in advance her services. Didn't get a call back 2hrs later in which the whole time I was imagining the worst for my dog after hearing this dead's happening to dog while getting groomed. Luckily that wasn't the case. I got a called went out to pick up my dog. Once I arrive to pick up my dog I had this bad feeling. I have always found the staff to be extra friendly and helpful. We used to purchase our dogs prescription diet food from here and they were always happy to order what they don't usually carry. I have also taken a family member's dog here when they were visiting from out of town and they were happy with the result. We have mostly visited the fish and bird sections to pickup supplies for our betta and the wild birds in our yard and we found they have a good selection. The store supports/partners with a local cat shelter and they had a promotion event last time I was in store. The cat shelter volunteers were all very informative and lovely and it took all of my will power not leave with a family of new kittens. They are always looking for people to foster cats and kittens while they are looking for forever homes. read more

My dog got attacked by a dog just standing at counter waited to be checked it for grooming and while I'm trying to see why and where my dog is bleeding from they take the vicious dog bacK with the other dogs to groom. That seemed like a perfect daY to send a dog home - guess it's all about the money anD not the safety of our fur babies. I always take my dog to be groomed at petsmart never had a problem till the last time !!! I made a last min appointment it was late in the day close to closing. My dog was there about an hour or two. her fur was matted but not too bad and besides that I was ok with a super short cut not too worried about how it looked just clean and cut ;) when I picked her up I seen an extra charge for "dematting" with a fee of about 25$ for the "extra" hour of work !!! But the regular bath and grooming time allotted was for 2 hours so they were charging me for 3+ hours including dematting the fur, but in reality my dog was there less time than what was allotted for the grooming also she was not dematted she was just shaved ?!? So disappointing it's just fees to jack up the price !!! I just go to a small local groomer now read more

When I brought the terrible shave job done on our dog to the attention of management I received a call from the grooming mgr Rebecca to bring him in to be fixed. When my husband brought him there they did attempt to fix him but made excuses and blamed his age for the shotty job. We have done a better job on our own at home we will not be returning. read more

Absolutely fantastic grooming team!! Everyone is awesome but special thanks to Rosemary - she's the very best! Rosemary is so incredibly nice and friendly and does an excellent job on our 3 Maltese. We haven't made it easy for her with one of our pups who tends to get matted. Rosemary always takes the extra time to explain what she can do and then makes it happen. Our dogs love and trust her. Took my dogs to get groomed at this Petsmart. They have been pretty good in the past, but something has definitely changed. I don't know if the management has changed or if the staff has changed or what, but it is definitely different. First off, when I went to drop my dogs off in the morning, it took me ten minutes to be addressed, even though I was standing at the counter waiting and there were an four or five employees trimming hair or cutting nails of two dogs. "We will get the groomer..." I heard this phrase three times, and each time no groomer. I told a young man who was trying to escape to the back of the store that I had my other dog in the car. He took my first dog while I went to get my second dog. Upon returning, it took another five minutes to get someone to print out the paperwork so I could leave. When I picked my dogs up, my lab obviously looked uncomfortable. His walk was strained and he was whimpering a bit. He gingerly turned in circles once or twice. When his tail was in my direction, I saw a pinkish streak under his tail and a raw patch of skin by his behind. The manager was back in the grooming section at this point. He quickly grabbed a towel and wiped under my lab's tail, trying to wipe away the streak. This seemed to satisfy him, but I wanted to know if my dog was bleeding or if that was a bodily fluid or what. So I asked him and he quickly stated, "I am sure it didn't happen here." I explained my dog was fine when I brought him in the morning. The manager told me if I felt there was a problem, I could have the vet in the store take a look. He walked me over to the Banfield vet counter that is inside the store, and disappeared in the back. "Do you have an appointment?" the vet assistant behind the counter asked. I explained that I did not have an appointment. Before I could explain that the manager could vouch for me, she responded curtly, "You need an appointment." At this point both my dogs were distressed and we all just wanted to leave. I told the manager that I would have my vet take a look at the lab if he needed it. There was no apology, no concern, nothing. It was very clear I was inconveniencing them. Now I am home. Looking at my dogs, I think that the lab is okay. I am not sure what the streak was, why he was walking strangely or what happened. I am sure the coat brushing, ear cleaning and teeth brushing I paid for did not happen. If I could give zero stars - I would. I signed my puppy up for obedience classes. Prior to the first class I had a scheduling conflict. I called the store to inquire about making alternate arrangements. I spoke to Eric to explain my situation. However (although he is a mgr) Eric could not help me - other than to take a message for the trainer. Five days passed - and so did the first class making it impossible to work something out. I called the store a 2nd time and again spoke to Eric. He assured me the trainer would call me back. Approximately 20 mins later the trainer (Lisa) left me a voicemail insisting that she already left a message indicating that I bring my puppy to the second class. She made several snarky references to the supposed previous message. DO YOU REALLY THINK I WOULD CALL A SECOND TIME IF I IN FACT RECIEVED THAT MESSAGE??????? Give me a break. I then called the groomer (at Petsmart) to see if they could accommodate my other dog while the puppy was in training. They gave me an apt 30 mins before the class. I went to the groomer 15 mins early to check in my dog. They couldn't find my apt so they wouldn't take my dog. No "I'm sorry" - no customer service at all. I asked or the manager. Ten minutes later Eric walked in. Rather than speak to me - actually he ignored me while the rude girl looking at the book said "this lady says she has an appt - but its not here". I interrupted and tried to explain why I made the apt at this time and that I needed to get to the training. Eric seemed anything but concerned. He made a bunch of stupid excuses then intimated that I probably called another groomer. What an idiot! As I have been going there for about 10 years (and all my pets see the vet at this store) I HAVE THE NUMBER PROGRAMMED IN MY PHONE. There was absolutely NO attempt to try and recover this incident on there part. Therefore I walked out of the grooming area and went to the front asking for the trainer. I told her that I was going to cancel my contract for training as this would be the 2nd missed class (all due to the horrid customer service at this store). Once again there was no apology or accountability. Next thing I know she is talking to Eric about my contract - just loud enough to hear them speaking poorly ABOUT ME! While Eric was refunding the contract he continued to insinuate that I called the wrong groomers therefore this was all my fault. Yep - blame the customer. Good job losing a loyal customer of 10+ years..... read more

Their staff sucks, they do not know anything about animals. They set up the death of my pet fish Steve for which i had for 2 years. When i went to go looking for a friend for my pet fish i was being helped out by a young lady ; i asked her if it was fine if i had put the new fish along in the same bowl with my old fish Steve and the lady said "yes they are going to have babies and blah blah blah". So i get home and put the new fish inside the bowl with Steve and i kept an eye on them for about an hour and everything seemed fine. I go turn on the TV and play some PlayStation for about an hour and turn around and my fish was eaten alive by the new fish.....never again did i own another fish. R.I.P Steve. I would agree with some of the past ratings.. It is hit or miss with the groomers and sales people. I have been to other locations and these guys are lacking in customer service skills to the point of being rude. You have to love people and animals to be a great groomer. We leave our dogs and cats with you. I will never ever use their groomers again. I may buy food in a pinch but I will go elsewhere if possible. I showed up 7 minutes early with two dogs and Melissa was so rude she told me I would be checked in "Whenever" my groomer arrived.. Whenever!! And she had a attitude for no reason.. Instead she wanted my dogs to become more stressed out in the itty bitty check in area..and more people walked in with their dogs.. Then I asked her why she wasn't checking me in and she said because they were "kind of" busy. Who talks like that to others? Okay so just let the waiting room filled up?? When you can either hire more people or put the dog away your working on.. And check people in that had appointments in minutes. Not hours.. Bottom line .. Don't throw out an attitude just because your miserable.. I will go to a private groomer from now on and not buy anything here again.. My bill was $111.00 plus I have a $10.00 tip to Cynthia who is decent groomer.. Melissa sucks as a human being. I paid all that for lip service.. Thank goodness my dogs are fine.. PetSmart in La Quinta has an inept employee named Lyle. I think he's supposed to be an assistant manager but he's in over his head even for this job. We left the store after paying for our purchase, and discovered the clerk failed to bag all we paid for. Returned promptly back to the store where we related the shortage We were told we had to speak to Lyle. He was the reason for the shortage! As we were being checked out, he came up and interrupted the clerk in the middle of our transaction which is not only rude to the customer but very un-manager like! Was this guy ever trained because he has no common sense! He handled our return to the store very ungraciously and indifferent. We have been regular customers of this PetSmart for 11 years buying food for 3 indoor cats, and 7 feral cats. I believe it's time to switch to Petco. read more

Lisa is an excellent trainer that cares about her pet parents. I've taken my puppy to Petsmart for Puppy and Intermediate training. We have all seen positive changes in Madison. She's gone from a shy, hiding behind the chairs puppy, to eating treats right out of Lisa's hand and greeting the other dogs. She really takes the time to go over the steps to train the dog. They are also really helpful with online returns. I've never had an issue returning any items. read more

Reasonable example of a giant chain pet store. I keep reptiles, and the folks there aren't really knowledgeable about them. They do stock the food I need, so I don't write them off entirely. If there were a locally-owned alternative or a shop with more attentive customer service, I'd definitely choose that instead. read more
