Our puppy just got his first ever haircut and groom today at PetSmart. We are VERY happy with the result and we look forward to our next appointment. We selected Meghan as our groomer because we had seen many positive reviews for her- and we are really happy we did! She's a super nice person, excellent communicator, fabulous stylist and she took excellent care of our puppy. She made me (nervous dog owner) and my dog feel very comfortable. His haircut looks adorable and is exactly what we wanted. She even made an awesome recommendation about a harness that might work well for our puppy. We will be back and at this point I would absolutely recommend Meghan if you have a furry friend in need of some beautifying! I have attached photos of before and after. His fur is a little uneven on his paw due to being shaved for an IV during his neuter several weeks agothis was not a product of his groom. Update: Sadly, just five weeks later, my opinion has changed drastically. We originally had booked a puppy trim (same service as last time) for Nov. 1. Our puppy was having a teething issue, so we opted to reschedule the appointment for the following week Nov. 8. When we rescheduled the employee on the phone was very kind, but instead of scheduling a puppy trim, I later noticed she scheduled a full bath and haircut for an adult dog. The difference in price between these two products is over $40.00. Our puppy is STILL a puppy and weighs only 16 pounds. He weighed 15.5 at our last appointment. I went online and cancelled the appointment for Nov. 8 and rescheduled for a puppy trim on Nov. 7. When we arrived at the grooming salon for our 1pm appointment on Nov. 7, Meghan was not present and the other groomers told me she went to lunch and that I needed to wait for her in order to drop our puppy off. When Meghan finally arrived at 1:07 (late for our appointment), she seemed to be in a bad mood, and clearly had scratches on her neck that I assume she received from an earlier client. When she opened up our account and saw the puppy trim she said she had to go ask someone about it. When she returned she said she needed to adjust what we were doing because our puppy was now over six months old(by just a couple days). Luckily I asked her how this "change" would affect the cost because a puppy trim is $17.99 and an "adult" trim is $50.00!!!!! All she does is bathe him, trim his eyes, paws, nails, and sanitary, and he's barely any bigger than his last appointment yet we were going to be charged almost triple what we expected. Her justification was that since he was bigger he would require more shampoo..... I don't think so! When we left our last appointment she clearly told us to book the same puppy trim for four weeks later, which was what we had done. I don't feel like she was going to tell me about the change in price when she adjusted the service in the computer. When I told her that I was not going to pay $50.00 for a puppy trim she said that was fine, and we left. As we walked out the door we heard her laughing at us with another groomer- and THIS- not the shady pricing- is why I will not go to a PetSmart grooming salon again. She definitely lost us as clients because of our experience today. We can easily go back to grooming our puppy on our own until we find a groomer that treats us nicely and has fair pricing. read more

I went in this week to purchase an item that I found online at their website for $12.99 when I went into the store it was $21.99 When I asked the cashier why the price was different. He said because it's our online price I asked them to honor the price and they said they wouldn't... Great customer service from the lovely blue haired lady at the register, I cant my say the same for the short Caucasian woman with the grey T-shirt (employee), creeping around every corner making me feel like I was a thief. Here's the truth: I take my almost 3 year old son here for the entertainment. Don't have time to go to the zoo for an all day trip? Take your kid to Petsmart...its almost just as good, and its free! From a 'zoo' perspective, all of the animals have clean cages, and today we even saw a lady playing with the cats for awhile, nice to have them socialized while they wait to be adopted. The guinea pigs and pretty colorful fish are our favorite attractions. There is a training area in the front of the store, and if you're there for a training session, bonus entertainment! They offer grooming services as well at the back of the store, and you can watch the dogs and the groomers through big glass windows if you wanted to. The store as a whole is very clean and organized. When we do have pet needs for our crazy wiener dog, we are always able to find things easily. The staff is very helpful and friendly. Prices on dog food are comparable to other stores, and if you need more than one item, this is a great place to go with a good selection. read more

Price gouging. Purchased a can of Kaytee baby bird food in the store and was charged $18.99, on getting home found the online price for store pickup was $9.99. Almost a 100% markup in store. So I ordered online, went back to the store, picked up the new can and returned the one I'd bought just an hour earlier. I had the worse experience with a very rude cashier. I bought a cat condo. She was very rude as I had questions and she was busy talking to the guy behind me like I did not exist. This is for the grooming salon. I've been taking my two dogs here for about a year and a half and recently on multiple occasions have had issues. The last two grooms my dog came home with cuts on his skin from the clippers- I didn't notice the cuts until they had scabbed over (about a week after the groom). The first time I didn't realize what the cause was, but after the second visit I found the same issue and knew it had to be from his groom. I was in the market for a new groomer, but due to the current shut down, I had to bathe my dog at home and when I went to clean his ears I discovered that it looked like they hadn't been cleaned in MONTHS! I pulled a fairly large hard ball of earwax from his poor little ears. My dog is a fluffy guy and I had never had a reason not to check his ears after a groom as I've been going to petsmart groomers all over the country (we've moved a lot) and never had issues. We pay a decent chunk of change and put a lot of trust in groomers to care for our furbabies. Like I said I was already just going to find a new groomer, but after discovering his ears, I had to put a warning out to others. This really pissed me off. read more

However the guy in the fish/reptile area's customer service skills need some work. Guess he didn't want to be bothered while he was taking inventory? Great selection horrible service went in last night waited one hour to be help with fish the store was empty I had a horrible exchange with an employee I get the fish need to be take care of but really 400 dollar fish tank I have but I can only put three fish in it come on okay maybe I don't know as much as I think I do about my fish but I have 15 fish between 4 tanks and I don't watch them die I work hard and change water as nessary and break up fights haven't loss one since common sense stuff. This employee treated me like a child or as if I had a learning disability never felt so small in a pet store I drop all my items and left my 4year old was crying wondering why we can get any fish thanks for nothing won't be here again. I went in during adoption week looking for a kitty to take home with me. They had a lot to choose from from kittens to adult cats. Carina helped me. She was very personable, funny, and easy to talk to. She let me see all of the cats. She let me pick them up and play with them. I was indecisive so I was taking my time which was no problem for her. She was very patient and was talking me through it. I ended up taking home a beautiful gray cat by the name of "Kitty" (which I changed to Elle). She is a year and 3 months. She is so spunky and sweet. She is perfect for mine and my family's home. We have had her for 2 full weeks now and everyone loves her and she has expressed love for us the day I brought her home. The only complaint I have from my whole experience is when an other employee was helping me pick out a litter. She recommended one that had a bigger grain, almost like pellets, I guess. It was not the same litter the cats there were using. Not really knowing too much about cats and their litter I went with her suggestion. Elle didn't go to the bathroom for about 2 days. I did my own research and learned that to get a cat used to a different litter you have to gradually change it, similar to if you want to change their food. I found out which litter Elle was using there and went and bought some. I brought it home and began pouring the litter in the box. Before I could finish pouring it in, she jumped in and started going. Poor baby. I really wish I would have known. On the bright side I was able to return the opened bag of litter. I would like to encourage those looking for a pet to not always go with a puppy or a kitten. Older animals have been around the block so they behave better. They are so much easier and more loving. They all have a story and deserve a chance at a happy life. I would definitely visit this location again and I am so happy Carina was there to help me find the new addition to our family =^.^= read more

I have 3 dogs, a cocker spaniel, a terrier mix, and a shitzu. I have taken all 3 to Stephanie in the groomers at gilroy and she has done a wonderful job each time! She cuts they're hair to exactly what I ask and is very friendly. I'm able to pick them up in a reasonable amount of time and I have never been charged any extra fees (as Petco has) I live in Morgan hill and drive to gilroy specifically for Stephanie. She even emailed me once a pic of my dog right after his grooming :) Petsmart also has given me $10 off coupons on the dog food we get each time and we def use it! read more

I am a long time Gilroyan... My great grandfather settled her from Portugal many years ago.... As a result I know many people in town... And so does my mother Jennie Camacho who worked for 29 years in the marketing department for Contel/Verizon... My mother is now retired and is 79 years old... Dad passed away 2 years ago so I thought I'd buy her a pup for companionship... I advised mom the 5month dog needed training... I said why don't you take BLUE to petsmart for training... so she called and signed up for the group puppy training class... she paid for it with American Express card... she signed up in person as was given a receipt and a paper with the scheduling. She was told by 5 different employees and the clerk to be early before 6:00 pm on Tuesday... mom made special arrangements to be early... so. About 5:30 mom and blue showed up at petsmart... 6:00 pm came around.. no class... a gal who looked like she was the trainer told mom I'm training a dog right now.. so mom waited till about 6:15 then went to ask the clerk about the class.. she was advised there was no such class and that the trainer was in the middle of a private session... mom said she had paid for a group class at 6:00pm...mom Was told she had the wrong information... the clerk said why don't you just wait around till 7:00pm. If there is room you might be accepted into the class but she said that she doubt there would be room because the classes fill up fast and today is the deadline to join the weekly training...mom said but I paid for a service that I was told by 5 employees that existed. She was even advised to show up early... mom was very upset and asked to see the manager... the checker went upstairs and then came back saying the manager is busy and said to just hang out and see if there is still a opening at 7:00... mom then left furious....mom came back to my gym and explained what had happened... Mom said she was hoping that her rude heartless treatment wasn't because she was a older Hispanic lady.. I even had gym members who heard her story and said that I should go to the store and get to the bottom of this... I said Mom is a big girl. She can handle her own battles. She doesn't have a smart phone so I'm relaying her story for her on Yelp....mom called American Express the next day and canceled her payment... mom just lost her husband of 60 years and just wanted training for her new pup.... What a joke. Booked TWO full service grooming appointments for first time customers with the works added on. I booked these appointments weeks ago. We are moving and needed our dogs groomed before we do so. After confirming my appointment multiple times in the days prior, the grooming department called me 20 minutes before my dogs appointments (as I was basically around the corner) to tell me a groomer called out sick and now BOTH of my appointments are canceled -- even though they were with two different groomers. I managed a grooming department for years, this is horrible customer service and I would've expected to have gotten chewed out by a first-time client if I tried to pull this stunt off. To add insult to injury they offered me a whopping 15% off to reschedule! What a joke! Is my time worth a few bucks to you, PetSmart? They were incredibly unhelpful and obviously completely disorganized. For a big retail company like PetSmart, you would think they'd have systems in place to cover when groomers called in sick. I will never bring my dogs here again and caution anyone booking for the first time -- who knows if your appointment will actually occur -- even if you've booked it weeks in advance and confirmed it multiple times in the days leading up AND were around the corner from the salon for an appointment that was supposed to happen in 20 minutes! They were only open for 35 minutes before calling and canceling our appointment. Did they call everyone else and cancel too? Did they get 500 dogs at 10 AM and couldn't take any other scheduled appointments? read more

This review is not for the Gilroy store, but is on PetSmart Corporate tactics. For online orders, they are offering up to $15 off if you purchase $75 worth of items, with some exclusions. So I place my order of $112 (well-exceeding the $75 target) and the $15 discount does not show up at checkout. What gives?! A call to their help center clarified that because I had a couple "excluded" items in my cart, the entire order was disqualified from the discount. WHAT??SERIOUSLY?? Fine, please remove the $11 worth of "excluded" items from my order so I can get the stupid discount. It didn't seem like an unreasonable request, right? Took my Puppy to Puppy training with Susan and I couldn't have had a better experience. Susan is extremely knowledgeable and you can absolutely tell she cares about each and every pup that comes through her door. She does everything in her power to make sure each Puppy or dog gets all the help they need even if that means having extra One on one time with the dogs. Prices are high but to be expected for a chain store. Some people in the aqatic section are very knowledgeable but only for fresh water as that is all they carry. If I remember I will add there names next time I go. Unfortunately I asked for a non messy plant and was suggested hornwort which has made a huge mess in my tank and should be supplemented with nutrients to stay bright green. The ease of returns is greatly appreciated because a couple times I bought the wrong size filters. Also the only place I can find that carries the only GOOD chinchilla food in the area, Mazuri food, highly recommended after much research. Of the chain stores in the area I will drive from Morgan Hill to Petsmart opposed to the two closer Petco's. read more

LEA IS THE BEST! I took my German Shepard, 3 month old puppy for grooming and her service was beyond amazing! This is the 4th time I've taken my puppy both to Gilroy and San Jose) and I've never received the service I did today with Lea. She took the time to ask me the type of shampoo, checked My puppies nails and than determined she needed a nail trim, lastly asked if it was ok and what type of after scent I wanted for my puppy. After the grooming and picking up Ariel she mentioned to me that my puppy was scared of the dryer and instead decided to towel dry her to avoid her becoming aversive/ scared . Went to shop for my dogs and when ready to check out I wanted to use a coupon for the pricey tab. The clerk, Kitzia, was so rude! She told me if I was gonna use the internet and a third party coupon they wouldn't accept that. She told me that I had to hurry up cause she wanted to get the next customer. The manager was Robby and he didn't go as far as to say untruths Kitzia did, but he wasn't customer friendly either. Pet smart should understand when someone spends over 250 dollars, they should have a small coupon available for use. Pet smart's items are VERY pricey.
