We love Sassy Pooch! We always take our dog to this groomers! He's a husky and Akita mix breed and he sheds a lot. They wash and brush him! They use an oatmeal shampoo to help with dry itchy skin. They clean his teeth and glands! He smells so good after! His fur is softer and fluffy. Every time he leaves he's so happy and has a different bandana around his neck. I dropped my 7mo Australian Labradoodle off this morning for wash, grooming, and teeth cleaning. When I picked her up, I was given the total and asked to pay (AND TIP!!) before they got her from the back. They brought her out and informed me that her harness (brand new), is "hanging on by a thread." When I explained that she just started wearing this and it's brand new, they told me it was like that when I dropped her off. I continued to say it was not and it's brand new, they told me maybe she chews on it. It's a harness, it's fitted against her chest so chewing it is not possible. As you can tell from the images, it was clearly cut. Accidents happen, I get that. What is frustrating is that the horrible woman in the back got very rude and defensive. I would have been satisfied with an apology and a discount off of the charge and not felt compelled to leave this review. On top of that, they trimmed her face down WAY more than we discussed and now she has a very typical poodle cut. I'm so upset I could cry. Worst experience ever. Look around before bringing your pets here. They've lost a customer due to poor customer service and a $40 harness. read more

Today when I walked in, Chloe was a little nervous and the guy came out and took her for a walk around the building by himself so they could bond... Beyond happy. Took both my dog and cat in for services. My cat is overweight and needed a huge trim. She has also always had very sharp claws that don't seem to go away. They were able to trim them so dull that they don't hurt at all anymore which has been a 5 year long problem. I can tell that my cat is much happier and I will be taking her in regularly. read more

We have had a very good experience here. We brought our 9 lb poodle here after we rescued him in Modesto and they worked magic! Just this week we brought our Santa Cruz SPCA rescue, after having him a couple months with his original bad cut and a few matts. He looked so beautiful and cute when we picked them up. The new dog even seems happier at home, as if getting cleaned up made him feel better too. We don't come as often as we should and this hasn't been a problem, which is nice. We hope to come more regularly but with two dogs, we do wash and cut their hair at home too, just to save money. Although the prices here are very good compared to other groomers. He did have one eye that was bothering him that evening (maybe soap in his eye?) but it was better in the morning. We are very pleased and will be back. Hopefully soon! read more

After moving back into the area after being gone for a year, we visited Sassy Pooch and Kitty too last week. My dog has been goin to Sassy Pooch for 8 years and once I adopted a second pooch I gladly took her to Albert. Now that Juan Ortega has taken over the business, I really wasn't worried one bit taking my dogs to him because he's always been a very kind, caring, friendly sidekick to Albert. Nina who took care of the appointment and put me at ease about asking Juan to use our own shampoo was super attentive!! She took massive notes - even though she knows my dogs - and really a gem. Juan Made sure to say hello when I dropped them off and when I picked them up, he made sure to personally let me know how it went for both of them even though he was very busy. I have to admit that my dogs were matted, nervous and a little stressed out given that where we had moved there were no groomers willing to take them in a regular basis. Juan did a fantastic job on my dogs. They look gorgeous. I have him the freedom to do what he needed but I also asked not to push them beyond their limits and he didn't. Evidenced by a tail on one that is still messed up (future vet visit will take care of it) and certain sensitive areas were also left alone because this particular dog really really doesn't like it. I'm thrilled with the way my dogs reacted when I picked them up. They didn't really have to go potty to urgently. They weren't stressed more than normal when having to be away from their 24/7 mom for 5 hours. Juan you rock!!!! If you live within driving distance from Gilroy and you want a groomer that is caring, great at his art, a sweetheart with a front office person that is worth her weight in gold, please go to Sassy Pooch!!!!! I have been looking for a dog groomer for the past 4 months and have tried 3 other local places. For one reason or another, none of them have worked out. Last week, I called Sassy Pooch after reading reviews and checking out their website to set up an appointment. They were very friendly on the phone and had an opening in just a couple of days, so I booked it. From the moment I dropped off Zuzu to the moment I picked up her, I felt she was in good hands. Her haircut was exactly what I had been looking for and the customer service went beyond my expectations. I was able to speak with the gentleman who cut my little one's hair when I picked her up and he took the time to explain to me that Zuzu seemed to be very nervous of her legs being trimmed so he took a break to bond with her to try and gain her trust before proceeding. Are you kidding me!?? Who does that? I am forever grateful. It's acts like these that show me that these people are not just doing "their job," they actually care about our fur babies and have a real passion for working with animals. I feel a little torn about this review. I have been taking my Bichon to Albert every two weeks since I got him about 8 years ago. I have nearly always been pleased with the cut but there have been a few minor mishaps over the years. Not long ago, my dog was diagnosed with a serious back problem. Consequently, while he was getting anti-inflammatory treatment and I was assessing his condition, I skipped his appointments for about two months. He needs to be handled very gingerly. During that time, I was trimming him in my amateurish way. My intention was to take him back when I felt secure that I knew my dog's limits and could discuss it with the staff there. Before dropping him off, I spent about an hour brushing my dog as a courtesy. I came back to pick him up and he had been shaved instead of scissor-trimmed. I could see the line of the razor in his fur. His nails had not been trimmed. When I went to pay, the bill was a shocking $95 dollars for what would normally have been $65. Albert claimed that the dog was full of mats "everywhere" and, therefore, there was an extra charge. No one called me to get my approval for any extra service. Also, I had brushed him for an hour before drop-off. In the entire time I have owned the dog, I have found a mat only 1 time. Apparently, we have different definitions of mat or there were no mats and Albert had an agenda. After years of being a loyal customer and having recommended Sassy Pooch to friends, I feel that Albert's treatment of me and my dog was a bit of a betrayal. I took the surprise $95 charge as a message that he did not want me as a client. Very disappointing. read more

Ruben answered the phone and was very helpful and sympathetic to my previous experience. He asked if I could come in 30 min and I did. The business is down the street from me and inside it is welcoming and clean. Very professional. They took Mazey and I will pick her up later today. [Update] I picked Mazey up and she was very clean, smelled great, ears clean, and toes trimmed. The price for all that was done was well worth it. They kept her from 12-430 and I felt that was kind of cool since it seemed like they didn't do all services at once to give her a break in between. 1st time I brought my dogs I had a negative experience as everyone was very rude. The hair cut was meh which I expected more for the amount of money paid. My normal groomer was out on vacation for a couple weeks and decided to try these guys again. Same thing, they were rude and short with me. They neglect to dremel the front nails of one dog. Thankfully she jumped on my leg and scratched them. Her sharp nails would have destroyed my hardwood floors! Overall, I will never take my dogs back. Talk about a great place. Needed to get my dogs groomed so I opened up the phone book to look up places. I called one in Morgan Hill and they wanted $45 per dog, it seemed high but what do I know, I have never had them groomed. (I have IG's and they have very little hair, they really don't shed or have that traditional doggie smell, I bathe, clip nails and clean their ears myself). I really wanted to take advantage of the other thing grooming offers that I won't dare try, anal gland expressing, it's just too expensive getting that done at the vet (they charge me $36 per dog for just doing the anal expressing, and that's when they are in for other things, like exams or whatever, if you go in just for that procedure, it's higher because you get an additional "technician" charge). Anyway, I found Sassy Pooch in the phone book, gave them a call and he only wanted $25 per dog (which included, bath, nail clipping, ear cleaning and the anal gland expressing). I looked them up here on Yelp and there was only 1 review but it was a good one so I decided to give this place a try. Boy was I glad I did. The groomer (Albert) was very nice and the dogs liked him right away which put me at ease. They looked absolutely beautiful and smelled fantastic when I picked them up. As I was starting to pull out of my parking space, a lady came walking out with her dog an Australian Shepherd (he looked gorgeous). I struck up a conversation with the lady and she said she's been coming to Sassy Pooch for awhile now and that she absolutely loves the place. I asked her what she pays to have her dog done and I was shocked that he was only $5 more than I paid, he's a pretty big dog and has long hair, so Albert's prices are very reasonable. I saw a few other dogs too and they all looked great and seemed content and not stressed at all. I will come back and I highly recommend ~~ read more

I took my Pomeranian/Cairn Terrier mix here for a haircut and Albert gave him a really cute puppy cut. It was $45 for everything, which I think is a little steep for a 12 lb. dog, but that seems to be the norm here in the Bay area so whatever. Luckily that price includes all the basics (bath + haircut + nails trimmed + ears cleaned + anal glands expressed). My pup even got a nice spritz of doggie perfume that left him smelling delightful. Albert was very nice and gentle upon meeting my dog; you can tell he spends a lot of his time working with animals. I brought my puppy in to have his nails trimmed. He's a 6month old rescue and he's scared of EVERYTHING... women, men, skateboards, crows, leaves falling from trees, his own shadow... Well Albert saw his anxiety right away and actually took my puppy for a walk to calm him down and have him become more comfortable so the nail trimming wouldn't be traumatic. That kind of care and attention should be highly praised! Once he's old enough for grooming i'll definitely be bringing him back to sassy pooch for all his needs! Albert and his staff are amazing! I've been bringing my dog to him for three months now. She's a medium sized dog (about 25lbs) and has short hair, so she doesn't require much trimming. I pay 28.00 for the whole bath+nail clipping+ear cleaning+anal glads expressed. My dog isn't very friendly with new people, but Albert won her over in under 5 minutes, which is unbelievable. My dog also had dandruff that I couldn't manage to get rid of, and Albert helped me with that. My dog, Molly and I moved to Gilroy one year ago, and it was priority to find another grooming service that Molly was comfortable to go to. Our first visit set the tone and I truly appreciated Albert taking the time to get to know Molly. She is a high shedding dog, so I requested the furminator treatment. After discussing with Albert, I mentioned that Molly occasionally has sensitive skin. He was careful to do a light furminating brush out, as to not irritate the skin. The 1st time I took my dog they did an excellent job she looked beautiful. The 2nd time I told them to shape her in to the way she had done the 1st time . I found out they keep no records on what they do each time they cut the animal's hair so therefore they have no idea what they did the 1st time period since I am not in the business I didn't know the correct verbiage to use to get what I wanted. The owner is more interested in arguing and proving he's right then actually satisfying the customer. She was not very clean had Dirt still on her stomach and the hair was all uneven. He did say I could take her in in 2 days For another bath but I would have to wait a week and a 1/2 together in to cut her hair properly.Obviously I can't read his mind so I don't know what his way of doing things is. I came here to get my long haired cat de matted and groomed. The place itself is super cute, the front desk girl was really friendly, but this review is for the haircut and supposedly a wash. We needed to get Lola dematted, asked for the lion cut. When I picked her up I didn't think to take her out of the carrier until we left. When I did, I saw that she looked incredibly patchy and you could see some longer pieces where there shouldn't be. Her body looked bumpy because the shave was not clean at all, and I don't think they even gave her a bath. Her mats are gone which was our main goal, but we could have paid over $100 for a better cut and get her washed. Definitely will try to find some place better, but wanted to like this place because all of the good reviews! read more

BEWARE. We took our two boxers here for a simple shampoo, nail trim, and teeth brushing. We got them back several hours later and shocker... they only had their nails trimmed. The dogs were still dirty and smelled bad. They definitely were not shampooed, their ears were dirty, and their coats literally had debris on them. They were more dirty than when we left them. We took them back in and they assured us it would be fast, they apologized and we left them there again. We called 2 hours later and guess what?! They are done and they've been waiting in a crate. So...you screwed up your very simple job, had to do it twice, said it would be quick, and then forgot to call me? Are you serious? How has this place lasted so long??? Now they have assured us they have been shampooed and conditioned, but still, not a great job cleaning the dogs. Their ears are still dirty, and now I'm at home - rewashing my dogs myself. After reading the other reviews of dogs with cuts and chemical burns from their cheap, dangerous shampoos, I can't believe we ever took them there in the first place. Please, love your dogs and take them elsewhere. Literally a garden hose in a kiddy bath is better than this joint. read more

On the recommendation of a neighbor, we took two small and well-behaved dogs in to be groomed: a 7lb toy poddle and 22 pound mini labradoodle. We had them there for a simple shampoo and hair trim. Nothing fancy or complex. Just clean the dogs and trim their hair down to a shorter length. A few days after they came home from Sassy Pooch, both dogs had significant patches of hair loss on their backs, which has never happened before to either of them in any capacity. We were stumped, but our vet was able to confirm that both dogs had chemical burns from the groomer and that their hair will be damaged and off-color forever. Heartbreaking. Beware!!!! read more
