The grooming was disappointing, especially for $81 (even with the new customer special). I chose the Dry Shampoo option because I didn't want to stress my cat out more than necessary with a water shampoo for a first-time groom. I don't even know if they did the dry shampoo - cat doesn't smell different. I specifically asked for the paw fur to be trimmed cleanly, but that wasn't done properly. The overall haircut was uneven and chunky, and the hair on the back end was still too long. While they did leave the tail bushy as requested, I had asked for a slight trim to shape it, which wasn't done. Additionally, the ears didn't appear to be fully cleaned--there was still visible wax in the outer ear. Overall, the results were something I could have achieved at home and done better. The experience at check-in was also frustrating. There was a long line at 8am with only one staff member present until about 8:30. I was told only one person handles cat grooming, and they were running late. Considering I got a call at 10:30 my cat was ready - it doesn't surprise me it was faster than expected given the quality. Nice store although Baileys/Seven Corners area is a headache. It's a densely populated area, with lots of dense people. Parking and getting in and out of here, buckle up and be at the ready. Store employees are quite friendly. Also they have a nice selection in fish tanks and reptiles. Some of us like scales and tails. Here I got lucky to get my son's pet corn snake some mice. It is more expensive than ordering from an online laboratory, but when Chomper needs to eat, good to see he has a pleasant disposition, They have plenty of choices. Fairly organized store, and on a plus note it's clean. Always a joy to see a well behaved dog on a leash shopping. It was nice to meet Marley the Newfoundland. read more

Disorganized Adoption Process: Spent two hours waiting to adopt a Last Chance cat and had almost walked out without completing the full adoption application and paying the fees. Brochures or some guidance on the process will help, if nobody is willing to stay for the full process and walk us through it. Not Everyone Will Help: Grooming associate did not want to help us because it wasn't their department. Health of Adoptable Pets: The kitty we adopted showed symptoms of sickness - bloody vomit and urine - though we were told she was 'healthy' within two days of bringing her home. There was a foreign object in stomach requiring surgery or she would likely pass away within a few days. It is not necessarily anyone's fault, since the charity uses PetSmart's cells, but it is a fair warning to any prospective fur-parents. read more

I had the worst experience with grooming. This was my first visit and never again. I dropped off my little dog at 12:30 and returned at 3:20. They hadn't even groomed my dog. She'd been there for 3 long hours and not even touched. That means she was sitting in a cage for hours. This is not acceptable. My paw baby was a nervous wreck. She was not groomed at all. I couldn't wait any longer because of school pick up. The team needs to love animals, communicate with owners when running 3 hours late, and make sure the dog can relieve herself. I am never returning to PetSmart. Shame on you for treating our babies and owners this way. read more

We took our goldendoodle to Petsmart in Falls Church for a grooming. When I dropped her off, the customer service was terrible, and I got some negative/weird vibes from the groomer her appt was with. I was nervous about leaving our dog there, but we've had fine experiences with Petsmart in other locations, so I went against my gut. We later got a call from the groomer that he had accidentally cut our dog's ear, and she was being treated at the Banfield hospital within Petsmart. Horrified, we rushed there and found our dog with her ear bandaged around her head. We talked to the manager and the groomer, who expressed no remorse when describing how he made the cut with scissors even though he could not feel where her ear was. He, and one Banfield staff member, tried to blame the cut on matting, which is problematic because 1) her ear wasn't matted, 2) even if it was, it's careless to cut when you can't feel the ear, and 3) the groomer could have done nothing. Our dog also had several cuts and scrapes from the clippers around her body, again from carelessness. She had to get 5 stitches in her ear, wear a cone for 2 weeks, receive pain medication, antibiotics, and anesthesia, and go through the terrible and painful experience. Takeaway: I will now happily pay twice as much for a local, more careful groomer if my dog will come out unharmed. Accidents happen, but carelessness is a choice and I no longer trust Petsmart to enforce consistent safety standards, customer service, or care for my pet. read more

Today I had an appointment made to get my dog's nails trimmed and ground (smoothed out). When I got to this falls church location, I saw that a "Nail Trim & Grind" was $19, and a Nail Trim Plus (nail trim, grind, ear cleaning, paw pad trim, cologne spritz and bandana) was only $16. I asked the gentleman if I could change my appointment type because I didn't know there was a difference between the two appointment types when I made my appointment for today. He said yes, we can change it and do the other stuff no problem. I walked out of the grooming to pay and 5 minutes later, my dog is already done?? I found it odd that it went by that quick but I took my dog to the car. No cologne spritz no bandana were my initial observations. I checked her nails in the car to see what they looked like now, and they were not ground, or smoothed out, still jagged and only looked trimmed. I do not recommend paying $16 for them to do absolutely nothing worth your time. read more

Nice store, easy to navigate and find what you need. I'm glad that there's a Banfield vet/pet hospital here since not every location has one. On my most recent trip, I came to purchase a lot of aquarium supplies to restart our aquarium after our recent move. Tip: Fish don't survive moves very well. This store had all the supplies that we needed except a diverse and clean supply of fish. We noticed that many of the aquariums were dirty/murky and few fish (or lots of the same species). This was a major disappointment since we usually have about 10 species living in our 55 gallon tank. I think I only saw 2 of the ones that we usually keep tetras (which are the most common species) but no algae/bottom feeders, angel fish, cichlids, barbs, gouramis, baby koi, etc. So all in all this is a great store but we'll have to get our fish at a different location. read more

The care of the fish in this store is some of the worst I've seen. Bettas are in deplorable conditions, tanks are overcrowded with fish species combined that cannot safely or healthily coexist together. Just one recent example - associates have put a huge comet goldfish in with guppies, which is toxic for them. It is basic knowledge that goldfish should NEVER be put in the same tank as tropical fish, as they are cold water fish and produce massive amounts of ammonia. Guppies were visibly terrified at top of tank with nowhere to hide and if not eaten will soon get sick from the resulting water conditions. I am a first time pet owner with a 3lb yorkie and so I was very nervous about where to get her groomed. Everyone has their own opinions about groomers in the area and I was so confused so I came to yelp and saw that Danny here at PetSmart got a lot of attention and thought I'd give it a shot! Danny was very patient with me as I had a lot of questions and he seemed so gentle with Elle. Elle looked like a totally different puppy (she needed grooming badly) after he was done with her and I loved what he had done! Keep in mind though this isn't a fancy grooming place, it is in a pet store. Prices I think are reasonable and we will definitely be using Danny going forward. read more

Email I just sent PetSmart - in summary, the Covid procedures in the grooming salon are severely lacking. Multiple staff were not wearing masks in that very tight enclosed space, and one of them was particularly rude when I asked them to wear a mask. ******* Today I dropped our dog off for a grooming appointment. We've been going to Petsmart for her grooming for 6 to 8 years now. We've always had a great experience, which is why we keep coming back. Today was the exception. When we arrived we had to wait outside the grooming station because only one customer is allowed in at a time. Great policy! Once I got in I discovered the groomer who greeted me (David) wasn't wearing his mask, and the second groomer at the terminal (Dennis), was wearing his mask below his nose which is ineffective. Given that the grooming room is a small tight space with three people working in it, finding two of them not properly wearing their masks, it's problematic to say the least. David immediately pulled his mask up, I am asked the second gentleman (Dennis) to please do the same. David did so right away, without any complaint, which I appreciated. Dennis in contrast, rolled his eyes, and complained that his mask didn't fit and slid down his face. (I didn't state this at the time, but that's obviously not my problem. If he buys a mask that correctly fits him, that issue will not be a problem). When I explain to Dennis that I have a son at home with an auto-immune illness (Crohn's disease), he rolled his eyes again. I explained our family is concerned about Covid because of my sons illness, and therefore our family has to be particularly careful, and Dennis rolled his eyes again. At that point I was starting to get upset, so I directly asked him, "Do you have any problem wearing that mask correctly right now?", With another eye roll he replied "no" but then complained that it fogged his glasses and didn't fit. Besides the fact that your employee was disrespectful and multiple employees work working in that tight space aren't consistently wearing masks, this is something that may have serious consequences to your customers. Both the customer before me and after me were elderly, and Covid at their ages is extremely serious. The last thing PetSmart needs is a handful of Covid Positive test results traced back to your grooming salon. I will also note that I would have preferred a curbside drop off and pick up for our dog. But last time we dropped her off for a grooming appointment, when we called the store to request the curbside grooming pick up advertised on store signage in the window, we were told by your salon staff they were not doing any curbside drop off and pick up pick up of pets. That is a shame, because that would greatly reduce the transmission risk in your pet salons. read more

I used to come here more often when I lived near Seven Corners. As long as you're familiar with navigating Seven Corners, it's a great store with helpful employees and clean aisles. I like that it isn't crowded usually, and it's convenient to have Target next door to finish my errands in one location. I adopted my grey Maine Coon from the Love a Pet section, and he was covered in mats. I was able to schedule an appointment with the groomer to have him shaved, and all I needed was to show them the rabies documentation provided by the rescue. They did a great job, so much so that even though I technically live closer to the Potomac Yards PetSmart now, I still continue to take him to this PetSmart for his summer shave 4 years later. read more

I was pretty disappointed with this Petsmart. Their customer service is pretty terrible. I called to see if a certain product was in stores. I was on the phone for 25 minutes and 3 separate people put me on hold during that time. Every time I asked my simple question they would say "Ok, hold on a second." and then I wait ... and then a new person picks up the phone and says "hi, how may I help you." After this happened 3 times with 3 different people, I begged the 4th person to just help me and not put me on hold. It took her only a minute to walk to the aisle to find the product and answer my question. Was it really that hard? Their grooming salon's nail trimming for cats is more expensive than Petco's ($10 vs. $12) and Petsmart's groomer does not put Soft Claws on cat's claws. Just FYI. read more

The only reason that I give this store one star is because the system would not let me to give "zero star". I would give them zero star if I could. I sent my dog to the Falls Church store for a grooming. I immediately noticed that their customer service attitude was horrible at the time of drop off. Later on, I was told that my dog was supper "uncooperative" and they had to use "forces" to make him take the bath. I told them my dog is very sweet and has never been aggressive towards anyone. I sent him to Pets Mart of other locations for grooming service and have never had any issues. The employee there were very rude and impatient and simply told me" you can go to the other location then"! After the visit, I found my dog seemed to be very scared and afraid of people for a long time. It must be the way the employee interacted with my dog made him act like this! Furthermore, to my surprise, the employee there suspended my Pet mart account without a notice ( that is fine though because I would never return to this location anymore). I normally do not write reviews but this time I feel I should--because I was shock by the rude, ignorant, and irresponsible behaviors demonstrated by some of the employees there. I would never go back there again and hope others won't----if you really love and care your pets. read more

Let me start by saying that i never use yelp , but this time i had it with this guy name Ariel who works at the grooming salon, So I had my appointment at 7:30 am . I got there around 7:45 am. I got some morning traffic . I told him what happened and and he said well its 8:00 now , when its was clearly 7:45. From that point i just got disappointed because that was the only day i could have time for my dog bath . After that thing didn't get any better apparently he give my appointment to another costumer for being late 15 min . He told me that they only take 8 dogs daily. Do not use the hospital at this location banfield field animal hospital. They were fused my dog care and made me go to another location causing my dog to die. They continue to charge me every month for a wellness plan which my dog can no longer use because he is not here he died because of them. They don't care about your pets. I took my dog to Banfield this morning at 8 am & was told I had to drop her off & that they would call me when she's ready. They were COMPLETELY finished examining her by 11 am which originally made me happy because I thought I could go pick my dog up. The lady on the phone told me my dog was done, however, they had to wait for the doctor to write the prescription for my dog before I could pick her up. I figured it would be about 30 minutes tops but instead, they told me she could finally be picked up OVER FOUR HOURS LATER a little after 3 pm. I'm absolutely furious that my dog was sitting in a cage for over four hours because of a lazy doctor who took literally all day to WRITE A PRESCRIPTION. That's literally all Dr. Little had to do. My dog hadnt eaten any food all day since she had to be dropped off at 8 am. She was unable to use the bathroom until 4 pm when I arrived. I'm so upset at this medical team for being so careless and unnecessarily leaving my dog in a small cage all day when I could've picked her up by 11 am when they were finished with her. Instead she sat there hungry, scared, and having to use the bathroom. She ended up peeing in my car in the short 5 minute drive back to my house which she has never done before. I won't even go into how many completely unnecessary medications, x-rays, & tests they wanted to give my dog just because they want your money for the meds & procedures. Considering switching my vet to a vet who is not completely careless about the pets they see and don't try to scam you out of money. read more

Regarding PetSmart grooming in Fairfax, VA on Main Street, the store manager can't even remember to bring his keys to work with him. I made an appointment with PetSmart for dog grooming at 8:00 a.m. -- no one showed up until 8:10 a.m. but they didn't have a key. Then the manager showed up about 5 mins. later but he said he forgot his store key and would have to go back home. It would be another 20 mins. -- at least! I won't be going back. My time is worth more to me than a lazy store manager that can't even get to the store on time much less without a key. What a loser. read more

Grooming really depends on who you get. I think I will go back to Bethesda wanted to try this one since I moved from Maryland. The young male was whining since we walked in. "Oh this will cost extra... blah blah you want two inches off?!" Yes, I want two inches off from my poodle. Look just cut the hair, do what you have to do, brush it out if it costs extra then okay but he needs a haircut regardless. Is what I wanted to say but I just remained calm as he continuously talked over his colleague. Then when I picked him up, the groomer was still so aggressive. You need to brush him more or else it's going to be even more next time. Boy, go threaten someone else. I just ignored him. For one I'm 8 months pregnant I'm lucky I even brush my own hair and I that's why I asked for two inches off! His haircut was over due!!! And I'm about to have a baby I need it low so it's easier to take care of for the next few weeks. Turned out it was the same price I always pay for his haircuts so I don't know why he was making such a big deal. Haircut looks weird. Made his head small and the rest of the body longer. read more

Don't get what you pay for. I paid $32 for a grooming package, they were supposed to bathe my dog and trim his nails and clean his ears. When I got home, I realize they didn't trim his nails or clean his ears. So I paid $32 for a bath?? I could do that myself for the price of a cheap bottle of shampoo. What a waste of money and time. A wonderful PetSmart with friendly staff. They even squeezed our doggy in for a bath (at the spa) without an appointment. We did have to wait for 1.5 hours before coming back with doggy but it was worth it (on a day when they were fully booked). Staff throughout was super friendly and clearly dog lovers. Store is a bit messy (maybe they didn't have time to keep picking up stuff brought down by all the dogs roaming the store), but overall it's a really pleasant PetSmart read more

I like this PetSmart as well as the one in Fairfax- they are big, brightly lit, and have plenty of staff at registers or to help you in store. This store offers training, grooming, as well as adoption. If you're interested in adoption- go to the store on weekends in the afternoon. read more

came here to get my goldendoodle groomed for her first time. I purchased a puppy pack and had a $10 grooming voucher. I've never had a dog groomed before so I didn't know what to expect nor did I know basic grooming etiquette. I called a couple of days in advance, got an appointment, asked how long it would take, was quoted an hour, and marked it on my calendar. Since it was out of my way, I decided to run errands and worked my day around the groom. When I got there, I explained to the groomer that I had a puppy pack. I wasn't sure how I'd like her groomed, just that I wanted her groomed because I had the voucher. I asked how long it would take, the groomer said, maybe 2-4 hours. I was perturbed because I was quoted an hour and wanted to beat traffic to get back to fairfax. She understood and said she'd try and would call me if she couldn't finish the groom. She said I could come back another time to get it all done. I agreed. Ultimately, they did a FANTASTIC job. Penny was out by the reception area, ready to go when I arrived. She had cute little bows in "hair", her wild "Alfalfa-like" face hair was cut in a symmetrical round, she was happy, and they did it under an hour! I also loved the fact that they gave me a little report card that told me how she was during the groom. the things I didnt like - the smell of the shampoo they used and the fact that it cost a bit more than my voucher stated. I don't like being surprised, but it was still a good deal given that I got a nail trim, a bath, and puppy cut for $15 (not including tip). read more

Beware of expired food products on shelves!! Went to buy a bag of cat food on June 21st and noticed that the bag had expired on April 13, 2021. Called the store on how to get a refund because I do not have my original receipt. They said they can look up your account/purchase with the number given at that time. I would like to think that they have a quality control system in place to check for outdated products, but who knows. Double check your expiration dates people because I will from now on! read more

I am very upset with my experience with grooming at this location. When I brought my dog into the room the employee told me to take all of his collar/leash off. Once I did the employee went to my dog and threw a leash around his midsection and grabbed him from behind. He did not allow my dog to become comfortable with him or act in a calm manner. This was upsetting to my dog. This is not the way to interact with any new animal you have met. The employee also told me that if my dog bites him he will stop the service. My dog is very sweet and has never been aggressive towards anyone. How the employee interacted with my dog made him scared and on guard. While my dog was shaking on the table the employee did not try to comfort him in any way. I am very sad at how this employee interacted with me pet. I will not be returning. read more

Unfortunately this experience is the reason I now go to Petco. I had always gotten great service in the store. The workers were always friendly. However, I brought my puppy in for a bath one afternoon. I walked in and waited for service. Eventually someone asked if they could help me. I told them I was interested in getting the puppy a bath, ear cleaning and nail trim. The person helping me did not know how much it would cost. One guy yelled out $50.00, then someone else yelled out $45.00. Then someone else said, the bath was only $11.00. I asked was that $11.00 only for the bath or for the ears and nails too. I got no answer. Noone knew what was going on and more unfortunately noone seemed to care. My wife and I both got the vibe that the employees could care less if were there or not. I was then asked if I wanted it done today. Since I had the puppy with me in tow, I said yes and asked were there any openings. She scanned the book, and said yes. Then she asked a guy who was cutting if he could take care of my puppy. He yelled out, I dont have time. My problem is: (1) the place was disorganized; (2) noone seemed interested in giving me a solid answer and (3) if there is an appointment book, it would seem easy to know who has a free spot and who doesnt. I ended up leaving and just going to Petco, where I paid more money, but the service was EXCELLENT. read more

I really like this place, always had a great experience. I took Luigi for his first "day at the spa" as I tell him, quite pleased. They seem sweet and animal lovers, they couldn't believe how tiny Luigi is. 'Cept for one of the guys, he needs to smile a little often. Everytime I see him, he looks miserable. Poor guy. Anyway, I always find something new but my only problem now is that Luigi is well, beyond their extra small..yikes. Wish they had a section just for smaller dogs. This review is of this location as a pet store - and not a training facility. I found some parts of this store extremely cramped, particularly the very front of the store. Entering/exiting was unnecessarily difficult with various signs, bins, etc... cluttering the way and even more so when one needed to give way to folks with eager pups on leashes. Space utilization would also probably be better if the center of the store wasn't so crowded having to house both seasonal items as well as a training ring. Otherwise - there's a nice selection of items (we were mostly looking at spoils for kitties) with lots of toy and tower options - more than the location over in Alexandria. I will probably be back to take advantage of the selection - but definitely on a week night when there are fewer folks here. read more

I'm not one to write reviews on Yelp, but I felt this was necessary. Today I dropped my dog off for a groom. She only gets groomed a few times a year bc I typically groom her myself. Since I was taking my other dog in for a groom today I decided to take her in as well. Biggest mistake. I asked the groomer to cut her short but to leave her ears, tail and PONYTAIL. A few hours later I received a call that my dogs were ready and "oh I cut her ponytail off." I said what, why would you do that when I watched the girl specially mark down not to cut her ponytail off. The employee then started stumbling over his words and had the audacity to blame it on my dog. It was ridiculous. Normally I would chalk it up to a mistake and maybe the fact he just didn't read the paper but to blame a 14 lb dog was unreal. The Constitution of American Domesticated Dogs & Cats: We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all Cats & Dogs are created equal, that they are endowed by their Owners with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness--Which includes, but is not limited to; healthy food, good treats, unconditional love, fresh litter and playtime. While many pets have equal rights in our homes, not all pet stores are created equal. There are nearby pet stores with moth ridden pet food and who display homeless cats with upper respiratory infections. The four-leggeds that frequent the store are high in numbers which leads me to believe that this is one of the better options for all things pet related. I've never seen people bringing their furry friends to "the other place." The prices here are fairly reasonable for the pet supplies required to keep Cowboy, my trusty feline, content. Cleanliness is close to dogginess. (but accidents do happen.) As I write this, I'm now wondering how they keep it so clean. Nary a odor or hint of an odoriferous malfunction to suggest that you'll need to sanitize your shoes before returning to your humble abode. This place is far cleaner than nearby competition. In regards to the competition, the pet constitution states: That whenever any form of a pet supply institution becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the Pets and their Owners to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Governing Pet Store, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happinessgive An all around decent store gives us more freedom to enjoy the company of the ones we love.
