I was looking for a stylish scratching lounge spot for my cat. A Google search told me there was a reasonably priced option at PetSmart. Never mind I went to Petco on accident. These spots are fairly close together. Once I arrived at the proper store, I quickly found the item I wanted and carted it to a register. The person who checked me out was super knowledgeable and informative about cats who display some destructive behaviors. Check out was easy and pleasant thanks to this lady. Good visit. read more

I came here to get some plants for my fish, and I always like to look at the fish before I leave. Never have I ever seen so many dead fish in a location. All of these photos were from a single day. There were countless employees walking around but nobody was taking care of the fish. There were tens of dozens of dead fish in tanks. They were all cramped together which probably made the water quality very poor, killing a lot of of the fishes. The decaying bodies and visibly ill fish were very upsetting to see. Complete and total neglect that I have never seen on this scale even in commercial fish stores. At least remove the dead fish from the tank, but preferably take care of the animals that you are selling. Very saddening. I will not be returning to this location. read more

We brought our puppy in for a scheduled grooming appointment and were told they could not proceed because we were told our puppy was "snapping" at the groomer. This was surprising, given his age and temperament, and the inconsistency raised concerns. When I calmly asked to see the camera footage from the grooming area to better understand what allegedly happened, the request was refused outright. The manager on duty, I believe her name was Leanne, appeared inexperienced and disorganized. She seemed overwhelmed, struggled to clearly explain the situation, and did not handle the interaction professionally or confidently. What was most disappointing was the lack of transparency and accountability. If an incident truly occurred, showing the footage would have clarified things immediately. Instead, we were left with conflicting explanations and no evidence to support the claim. We will not be returning and would caution other pet owners who value clear communication and professionalism. read more

Nice selection of cat treats. I always prefer to try a single serve of a new treat or food before ordering in larger quantity, especially as my older cats tend to be (even more) finicky. Staff are pleasant, and there's a generous return policy for trying new foods. I also have a soft spot for this location because their co-located adoption center is where my girls came from. Petsmart Columbia is a great place for Picking up food, treats and all your dog and cat needs. Also the Per Hotel has always been great to board our dogs. We've been coming here since we adopted our first pup in 2006. Everyone is friendly and helpful and go out of go out of their to check in when in store. Some of the long term employees at the hotel always recognize our dogs and you can tell it is reciprocated. My only criticism, like others, is the grooming area. We will never go back since the staff are unprofessional and arbitrarily refuse to assist certain customers and pets. Otherwise we will continue to board and shop here. read more

I have been getting my dog cut and groomed at PetSmart for almost all of his four years of life. When in California, I had grooming done in Cerritos, CA. His groomer was wonderful, and he actually loved going to grooming. This last time I brought my dog to Columbia, MD (I moved here), my dog was given the most horrible, uneven cut I have ever seen. It was ridiculous! Also, my dog was afraid, and his behind hurt for two days. I have no idea what that groomer did to his butt for him to be sliding his butt on the floor for two days. This review is for the Day Care and Grooming services. While traveling with our dog on a business trip, I needed to find day care for a few days while tending to work related matters. Our 11 year old Maltese dog never experienced day care in her life, and there was not enough time to use any of the highly recommended day care providers, since an evaluation was needed first by all, so reluctantly and out of desperation I turned to PetSmart Day Care and I couldn't have been more pleased with our experience. Everyone was so kind and attentive and our dog had a wonderful experience and even made a few friends. Overall, I was super impressed with how they treated our dog and how polite and professional everyone was to us and being so patient with nervous dog parents. I arranged to have her groomed, during her third day at day care, and wow what a beautiful job they did. Our girl was sparkling clean, nails trimmed and filed, and they even put a cute bow on her head. I feel bad for not being able to tip the person who took care of her, due to picking our dog up when the groomers were closed, but do know that you made two dog parents very happy and we appreciate the nice touch of the bow put on her head. So, what started as a nervous and anxious event turned out to be very positive. We were able to take care of our work matters during the day, tour DC, and not have to worry about our dog. Took my dog here for grooming. When I picked him up he was very nervous and it took him a long time to calm down - about a week. I can't prove it but I believe he was mistreated. My dog was NEVER like that after a grooming appointment .I now will only take any dog I have to mom and pop groomers. Avoid PetSmart grooming. PetSmart treated my little boys like rockstars for a day! We came here for their grooming services a few months ago because my dogs are a little old and stinky (aka. seniors) and needed their nails trimmed. Our vet usually charges like $60 per dog for nail trimming, which is ridiculous. Our dogs are short hair dachshunds and we payed like $30 (average) per dog for a bath, nail trimming, ear cleaning, and their anal glands squeezed at PetSmart. The person who treated them so very nice and she gave us a whole report on how our dog was when he was with her. She pointed out things that we needed to check on and was very helpful with understanding the health of our dog. Thank you PetSmart for giving us more than just food and dog toys. read more

Kim, the lead groomer, was the bomb for many years, but unfortunately, she has retired. There are barely any groomers left for reasons no one can explain. If Kim returns to groom, the dogs and owners will be pleasantly overwhelmed with her services, skills, and demeanor. I stopped going to the boarding after a horrible experience my dog went through in a four-day stay. My 10 lb Shih Tzu was boarded there over six years many times and for long-term stays that cost me in the thousands. He loved the staff although shy. Upon the last boarding they sent my dog on a Sun to an outside vet and told me after the fact. The dog was traumatized. The outside vet called me and said they found nothing wrong with the dog and didn't even understand why he was there. Apparently, my doggie was there with 100 boarders plus; no individual attention was provided as I scheduled and paid for; therefore the dog did not eat much or poop for 1.5 days. 100 plus boarders for unskilled staff (per job advertisements) shouldn't be for what is charged. Again, this place has lost its best staff and there's a major problem. No one in mgmt returned my call before I returned from out of town or later. Stay away! read more

The store is good but the grooming salon is not. I have personally witnessed the groomers being impatient with the dogs. They accused me of missing appointments because cancellations on the app did not reach the salon, therefore counting as "no shows". I was a grooming salon customer for over 25 years and four different dogs and missed two appointments that entire time. Kim is rude and condescending. I will never go back. We found a kind professional groomer and they only take one dog at a time. My dog is much less stressed and I do not have to deal with being mistreated. Been here many times. Always has a really great selection of stuff in stock. People are very helpful and polite. Store is always clean. Prices are not bad for a brick-and-mortar store, and I definitely do price comparisons. We shop for our dog and our tropical (freshwater) fish. They pretty much always have what we need, and they provide a lot of specific help when we ask. We'll definitely keep heading here for supplies and stuff. read more

Shopping - They have pretty much anything you need, but look for the discounts to make it worth it. Puppy classes - They provided some very helpful techniques and tricks, for our first few weeks with our puppy. However, there were several weeks when we were the only ones to show up to class, and rather than give us a little extra one-on-one time and learn a new trick or two, they simply ended class 1/2 an hour early! Day camp - We've only had one day so far, but so far we've been very unimpressed. They seem hesitant to be upfront with information about what their day-to-day routines actually look like, and the information they do provide is pretty misleading. Based on the website, they lead you to believe that Day camp is from 9-5 and anytime before or after that timeframe, they're in their own 4'x6' kennel-type space. They describe day camp as having group play and socialization, sensory stimulation, plenty of individual walks, activities and skill enrichment. After our first pickup, the debriefing made it seem more like the default is keeping them in their individual kennel, and they get out for maybe an hour or two throughout the day. They also said that we have to pay extra if we want them to give our dog individual attention or any treats... Who knows, maybe day two will be better, but so far, definitely unimpressed. read more

I have tried to email & tweet petsmart using every social medium and I've been ignored. I had to resort to google to confirm, it wasn't just me. Others who were loyal to the brand complained of the same and their kitties reacted in the same manner. The Simply Nourish line by PetSmart has discontinued items (tuna broth, potato & tuna stew were the highest sellers and the favs) although they were best sellers amongst kitty owners. Then, they revamped the composition of the wetfood. It looks like mushy horsemeat whereas before, it was clear that they were authentic ingredients and looked like a stew you'd cook for yourself. In fact, it looked so good you'd consider tasting it. Look at my pics... I'll show you what it looked like before & now. I bought tons of it and now it just sits because my kitties both refuse it. So, I have $50 worth of canned food that's just sitting. My two are bougee so, they won't even eat Friskies or any low grade brand (those will kill your animals, btw). They only eat high end, grain free, high protein real food (like their momma). It's costly buying this level of pet food so to have to waste it is infuriating and disrespectful on their part. I'd love a refund because I noticed the packaging changed but who would have thunk they'd change the recipe & ingredients too?! Kitties are finicky, I bet they lost a lot of money doing that. Anywho, Natural Balance has a wet food line that is similar to what Simply Nourish used to be before they went rogue. The pricing is pretty much the same. My kitties love it. I have them eating the wet food from the tubs & the plateful pouches... they are addicted to both. Goal is to slowly transition them to the dry food as well. I'm just happy there's an alternative. But as far as it goes for pricing, I'm ok with PetSmart. I considered buying online through Amazon and it's much cheaper just to drive and buy it like normal people do. So let's cross fingers that NB doesn't choose to go rogue and remains consistent in the future. read more

My dog is a Maltese, age 18 months and 10 pounds. She is being denied service because she nips at the clippers and some other comment put in her file. Trying to get main office and the store to explain the policy and why a lap dog is too much for trained staff. Nothing but run around and no answers but my dog's file is noted so it is a problem getting her seen elsewhere. These type dogs are not aggressive. The dogs are small at any age- is it that the staff is unsure about handling a small dog? Shouldn't trained staff be able to manage a small dog or have ways to do so? Looks like the updated grooming protocols made in 2018 after complaints of mishandling pets was a show or handling small dogs is not a skill set at the location near me. Whatever the problem is, my dog needs to go somewhere and flagging a puppy that does not bite is a bit much. If the store near me or none of the other stores can manage her then aren't you all supposed to suggest a vet or something? That would make sense and be a better customer service move than denying service and making other pet store grooming competitors hesitant with your flag in her notes. Or is that your intent? Make it difficult on me, my dog, and for your competitors to make money from your inability to manage a small dog that is more bark than bite? read more

My puppy Snoopy (Maltese/dachshund) was stolen in front of this Petsmart on January 5,2019 at 2:30pm... he is still stolen and never to be found... the manager that day watched the whole thing from inside the sliding doors and did absolutely nothing... all she said was "I am not responsible for this situation because it's outside of the store" walked right back inside the store and acted like nothing horrible happened... while I was pouring my eyes out and begging for her to help me... If I could rate this store zero stars I would! This manager should not be working at this store if she doesn't care about her customers and their pets. Btw... on the catch for my puppy... He was stolen by a woman name Keria Shawdae Small and Justis Roman Sr. Woman- Tall dark African American. Man- Chubby African American. They were both wearing hats and all black clothing. Every time I come here, I come face-to-face with sour personalities especially from the long term workers. It's like they don't want to be there. Never let Kim cut your dog! She shaved my puppy to the skin. I brush and comb every other day and she never said she had tangles because, she did not. I can only attribute the aggressive shaving to laziness. On March 28, 2022 my wife picked up our 10 month old miniature poodle, Thor, from PetSmart grooming on 82nd & Allisonville. When he was brought out she was horrified. Instead of the puppy cut we had requested he was shaved to the skin. The groomer, Nikoya C, claimed that Thor was infested with flees and matted. She insisted that she had the right to shave and inflict a flea bath on him without our permission. The flea bath cost an additional $30. Both her claims are false. For over forty years I have raised many poodles. This is the worst grooming experience I have ever seen or heard of. Thor is checked daily for fleas and has never had any in his entire life. He is also on flea medication and was examined for fleas by the vet just two weeks prior. This is a calculated perverse ploy to simplify & expedite the grooming process and increase the price without any customer acknowledgment. Upon leaving the store my wife needed some help with Thor. Our pup was in a traumatic state and she was unable to put the collar back on him. She asked Nikoya for help and Nikoya refused. Fortunately, another groomer was there and helped her get Thor out of the premises. Thor is in bad shape. He is no longer house trained. He is having tremors and shaking violently. He was the best puppy I have ever had. Now he is not the dog we took into PetSmart. Please be aware of what can happen to your pet. Do not, under any circumstances, bring a pet that you love to this PetSmart for grooming. Their groomers are disrespectful to you, and your animal. I've gone there 7-8 times, and it is consistently the worst grooming experience I've had. Their employees do not want to be there, and it shows in both how you're treated and in the quality of their work. I kept going here originally because it was so conveniently located to my house. I've finally had enough, though. I'm not the type of person to write reviews, but if you're reading this I want you to understand that this is not the type of place you want to bring your pet. I've gone there enough times to meet almost every groomer, and they're all rude, sullen, and grumpy. There is not an iota of warmth or friendliness in the entire grooming department. Ms. Kim is one of the most miserable people I've ever met in any customer facing job. There are places you can bring your pet for grooming that will care for your pet, treat your pet and you with respect, and be friendly while doing it. This is not one of those places. DO NOT TRUST THIS LOCATION WITH ANY ANAMAL!!!!! This is the worst petsmart I have ever dealt with. The managers are degrading, untactful, and down right unprofessional. Both should not be allowed to work with the general public. My animal has had many stays with other petsmart and never had a problem. Expect for this location. I was told I had to pick up my animal immediately after they decided he didn't meet their standards, or they were going to send him out. I don't know what kind of human would threaten to take someone's pet anywhere with out their permission after they have paid for someone to watch them. I am still in such horror with what that manger was laughing about. How it will cost me an "arm and a leg" to get my animal back, if I didn't deal with it right away. This review is in regards to my dog's recent boarding stay. He was dropped off his normal healthy self, for a weeklong stay. At check-in we reviewed that I had each days food portioned in its own bag. Our reservation was for the "gold package", which included day camp for each day. I arrived for pick-up first thing in the morning, and am informed that my dog had a rough night and was given a much-needed exit bath. The account given was that he had a great stay, including his daily day camp and eating and bathroom breaks, and it was only the night before that he had potty problems. However, the moment I saw him he was not himself at all. Normally healthy and very excited to see me, he could barely walk and was obviously in a lot of pain. He was noticeably thinner. Again, I asked to reconfirm the details of his stay and was told all was well up until a few hours the evening before pick-up. In spite of hearing this, I did not realize until arriving home that he was not fed 1/2 of his food for the week (directly conflicting with the description of him eating as portioned). It was very obvious that my dog was in serious condition. He could barely walk out of the store. I lifted him into the car and then carried him into my house. In my house all he could do was lay down and could not get himself up. He would not eat. None of this was at all normal. First thing the next morning I take him to the vet for the first of three visits inside of the next week to save his life. My dog's weight had dropped from his normal 92-95 pounds down to 75 pounds. He was in a lot of pain due to substantial inflammation in his spine and legs. The only good news here is that my dog was in really bad shape, and his health is improving day-by-day now to approach what it was before. This has been an experience that I find totally unacceptable - it is difficult to fit Petsmart's account with what I could see at pick-up and afterward. At minimum, Petsmart fed him half of his food portions and my dog lost a substantial amount of weight. I was never notified during the stay of any health concerns or changes. While I have been a Petsmart customer regularly for over 10 years, moving forward I will not be a Petsmart customer again under any circumstance. read more

Pet Smart in Columbia is horrible. DO NOT TAKE YOUR DOG THERE TO BE GROOMED. I took my Bernadoodle there today and asked Morgan to not shave her down too much. Morgan told me that because Lola had some matting she would have to "de-mat her and trim her down to about 1 1/2 inches- 2 inches. I specifically told her NOT to cut her too short. She said de-matting would be $15 - $30 more. I made the statement that I thought that was ridiculous but I needed her groomed so go ahead. When I picked Lola up, I swear I didn't even know my own dog. That idiot had shaved Lola down to the skin. You can see the pink skin on her knees and chest. She looks like a greyhound - not a Bernadoodle. When I told the grooming manager, he just said: "Sorry, all I can do is refund your money." My dog looks terrible. No fur at all. I'm even worried about her being in the sun because you can see the pink of her skin -- that's how close Morgan shaved her. I then called to talk to the store manager and got Cathy. She said she was one of the managers. When I told her what happened, she said: Sorry, all we can do is refund your money. I told her they should fire Morgan because if she doesn't know how to groom a Bernadoodle she had no business working there and if she had issues with grooming Lola she should have called me before shaving her. Cathy actually laughed at me and said: "She's not going to be fired. There's nothing we can do." I asked who was over her and she laughed again - very condescending - and said "Priscilla." I asked for Priscilla and Cathy said: "She works tomorrow. You can call her but she's not going to do anything either." DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET HERE. THEY ARE NOT ONLY WORTHLESS GROOMERS, THEY ARE CONDESCENDING AND ARROGANT. First, they don't know what the hell they're doing and secondly they don't give a damn that they completely destroyed the look of my puppy. Again, I didn't recognize my own dog!! These people are HORRIBLE!! And what galled me even further is that Cathy even laughed at me when I was saying something needed to be done. She and Morgan should be fired!!! PetSmart Pet Hotel is the WORST! I had concerns from the beginning, but was assured by management (Jacqueline) that my 7 month old pup would be well taken care of and have quality play time. Considering he was not feed his prepared meals as instructed; I doubt anything else happened as promised. He was totally neglected and the toys and blanket that were in his bag were untouched. My pup was not himself AT ALL when we picked him up, and seemed to have some type of infection for which I have sought medical attention. He was wheezing, nose running, diarrhea, nausea and the corner of his mouth is red and swollen. I was livid! I WILL NOT be going back to PetSmart for ANYTHING, nor will I recommend them to anyone I know and care about. I hope that this complaint reaches corporate as the lack of care and detail regarding my puppy's feeding instructions and his overall well-being is a travesty. Oh, and he lost weight and after I paid extra for a bath before we picked him up; he was flaky with something stuck on his unbrushed coat. Seems he was NOT bathed. If the young lady that was in the playroom with another dog just sitting there while she was on her cell phone is any example of my puppy's quality playtime or any other quality care, the staff should be ashamed of themselves for what is advertised. Total disappointment. My pup seems to have been abused and traumatized during his stay and I will never forgive myself for trusting a bunch of untrained kids to care for my 7 month old Rottweiler. I am not done with my outrage until my experience is addressed and I receive SINCERE apologies for my puppy's trauma and my distress. My once HEALTHY puppy is now under medical attention the DAY he was picked up from PetSmart. What about the on-site vet??? I assume no one paid enough attention to realize ANY of this was going on, as he was diagnosed with a severe upper respiratory infection. From the moment we got him home, he had diarrhea and was throwing up his food covered in mucus. There is no way that the people tending to him did not notice these things while in their care. If you love your pet, NEVER take them to the PetSmart Pet Hotel. That establishment is not equipped with caring for dogs especially when they never see the light of day and are neglected in a kennel all day. read more

Boarded my pup while we were out of town. They were able to take my dog on short notice, was very clear about what vaccines needed to be up to date, and if there were any special needs. The food is included in the price of boarding, and we had the choice of wet or dry. The staff was very nice and super calm, they were very thorough with the check in process. Pixel had two half days of day camp, and when we picked her up, she was excited to see us and did not seem distressed. read more

To sum things up, me and my family took our dog here for a haircut. The groomers cut way to close to her skin, causing it to bleed and form a rash. We spent hundreds and hundreds of dollars at the vet trying to heal her skin. Please dont bring your pets here for grooming. read more

Would only this as an absolute last resort for boarding 1) Looks a kennel. 2) They do not seperate small and large dogs. I have a 6.7 lb chihuahua-mix that gets feisty toward big dogs. So he was put on individual walks and i could not put him in group play. 3) They do not take any of the dogs outside, instead they take them in a room that mimics the outside. And they do not provide unlimited relief breaks as the website says. 4) I called ahead and explained my dog doesn't eat if by himself. I was told by the call center and someone onsite over the phone, that someone could spend a little bit of time to make sure he eats. When i dropped him off, the guy at the front desk was heartless. He said they could check on his feeding, but that they dont have time to sit with them. However, when i called the next day to check up on him, I spoke to lady named Kimberly who was very nice and did spend extra time with mickey to make sure he ate read more

I went to this Petsmart to have my dog bathed today. I explained that my dog had some ointment on his side due to skin allergies but that they were scabbed over for 2 days so the hypoallergenic shampoo should be fine. The manager claimed it was an open wound and refused to give him a bath. I should be able to have my dog bathed at anytime. It's soap and water!! I could have signed a waiver making it my responsibility if the area became worse but to be told it was an open sore when its been scabbed over to 2 days (see attached images) is just ridiculous to me. Used to take my dog Jade here for grooming services. But 1 day when I was bringing my dog here. My dog would try not to get inside the store. She was using all of her power to resist from going there. I figured she was just scared of getting groomed... But it felt different this time. Like she was scared for her life. I even tried to feed her a delicious treat but she still wasn't trying to go there. She wasn't moving. So I had to pick her up and I noticed her whole body was shaking like Tom Hanks hands were shaking in Saving Private Ryan! She was literally vibrating viciously. That was really odd. Then 1 of the women came out to get Jade but my dog really tried to run away. Then I saw the woman get annoyed and she tried to pick her up and my dog's hair raised up and she started going crazy! Barking and growling and going crazy towards the woman. Luckily I had the leash on her and pulled her back. This is where I noticed something.... Before this time, I got my dog groomed here and when we got her back, she had scars on her legs and some missing hair on her back... Scars on legs could have been anything. And missing hair? My dog sheds year round. And she also has a skin condition called Lupus. But I did find it weird none the less. Now that this is happening. I picked up my puppy from the pet hotel today and must say I am very, very happy with the experience. The staff was very friendly and knew my dog by name, in a good way. This could be a symptom of the 10 day stay my dog was wrapping up, or it could be plain old good customer service. Showing that the animals were not just a number and truly cared for during their stay. The "report card" they give you at the end of the dog's stay is also a nice touch. It doesn't give any detailed information but is still a good reinforcement of the animal's stay. Also, they seem like a fair price for their service ($31/day) for a 24 hour staff. I would definitely use them again and recommend them to friends. read more

I have boarded my dog at this facility twice. Both times I was disappointed. Both times when I picked up my dog, she smelled horrible. It was a mixture of stale urine and feces. When we arrived home on 1/5/2022, I had to bathe the dog and my suspicions were confirmed. I don't know how my dog had dried urine and feces on her hind legs and tail. I suspect that the dog was left in a crate instead of the suite that I had paid for. My dog was traumatized after her last stay at this facility. read more

Got my puppy groomed here for the first time with their first time puppy service. Stephanie M., took wonderful care of her and she left giving Stephanie kisses! My girl looks adorable and it definitely started her on the right foot with grooming and getting used to the experience. read more

I take my dog Delilah, a 5 lb. Yorker mix, to see Jennifer W. in the grooming salon. She always takes good care of her. Delilah looks adorable every Time. She gets a short cut with a teddy bear face. I highly recommend Jennifer W.! read more
