Nelson is a 1/3 cattle dog rescue. He is a busy boy and a great squirrel hunter. After 6 months with us he had gotten so obsessed that he would be walking along calmly and then try and pull your arm off on a walk. There was no interrupting his stalking. Premier DT got him turned around. He came home after 3 weeks so happy to show off all he learned and his knowing how to please us makes him a more pleasant member of the family. Given a choice, he would go live with his trainer Connor. No questions asked. He LOVES Connor. When he comes for boarding or on Connor's home visit Nelson was/is a puddle of love. We have continued to work with him on our own, using the commands, and now a year plus later he walks off leash most of the time, leaves squirrels and everything else on command and does the right thing 99% of the time. read more

After searching online and taking recommendations from friends, I contacted Premier about their three-week board and train program for our bernedoodle puppy. When talking with them, they recommended their puppy orientation (which is more like a tailored training session to cover general information and whatever you specifically want to talk about), the cost of which goes towards the bootcamp, so you aren't losing anything in taking the class. I was already going to proceed with the bootcamp, but after our session, I was even more excited for our pup to go. Jessi worked with our 14-week puppy for just about two hours, during which time she made huge strides in her "leave it" and in walking and jumping. Jessi gave me easy tips that I used the next day on a walk, and it was like a night and day experience in getting her to heel. I can't wait for her to attend her bootcamp. Another huge perk to this location (and something I specifically wanted when searching for locations) is they also do general overnight boarding, where they will keep up her training. You can even leave notes about specific concerns if you did their bootcamp with them. They are also so so close to BWI, which is great for us in planning boarding. We rescued Dune in July 2020 when he was 1 year old. We also have a 6 year old rescue and experienced dog owners. After working with him for 2 months we realized that he wasn't progressing with his training and obedience. I researched a number of training facilities in the DC Metro area and Premier was consistently recommended, including by my vet who visited the facility so that she felt comfortable recommending it to her clients. I called the facility to "interview" them and they were very friendly, informative and patient with my questions. After becoming comfortable with them, I booked Dune for the 3 week boot camp. Prior to drop off, I was impressed and comforted with their process which included proof of vaccines and his medical records. At drop off we met with Hannah (his lead trainer), and went through a comprehensive discussion about Dune's needs and our expectations. Additionally they weighed Dune and got him settled in while we were given a tour of the facility. It was tough to leave him for 3 weeks but we felt like he was in very capable hands. I had twice per week check ins with Hannah who kept me up to date on his training progress, also each time I called in for our check in I was given an update on his boarding (eating, interactions with other dogs, bathroom status, etc). Each time everyone was informative and patient with my questions. As an example of their thoroughness, during one of my calls I was informed that he lost about 1 1/2 pounds due to all of the exercise they received so they increased his daily food intake to compensate (he weighed 54 pounds when I dropped him off, so 1 1/2 pounds wasn't a huge deal)! During all of my check ins Hannah told me how well he was progressing but of course I was a bit apprehensive since everyone measured progress differently. 3 weeks later in mid September on pick up day, I was ready to see it for myself! I was beyond impressed! He was like a new dog, who gained years of obedience and maturity in just 3 weeks! He knew all of the commands, he walked well on the leash, his focus was laser like and he acted as his job was to wait for us to issue him the next command and he would happily comply! He was clearly very fond of the staff at Premier, especially Hannah. We spent 3 weeks at the beach with him, primarily off leash and he was perfect! Despite having many distractions he was always focused on us, wanting to listen and please us! We just had our 1 month check in and he was thrilled to see all of his friends at Premier. A few minor things have come up that I talked through with a Hannah who immediately had suggestions on how to fix them. They're already working! While the boot camp wasn't inexpensive, it was well worth the investment and we are thrilled that we brought Dune to Premier! I highly recommend their boot camp. read more

I made the tough decision to send my lab/ beagle to three week boarded training. I knew that it was going to be hard to not see him for 3 weeks. And I knew it was an investment. But it was all worth it. They have worked with him on sit (not just sit and get right back up), down, off, leave it and most importantly to me, place and recall. Amanda and James were both wonderful with him (and me). James did my registration/ orientation and asked lots of questions to learn about Mack's behaviors. His inquisition brought up things I would not have thought to mention. Amanda did the "debriefing/ training" when I picked him up and was thorough and patient. I've been waiting a while to write this one. Dog training is a process and it's pretty complex so I didn't want to write a review until I felt like I was far enough into the program to evaluate all the different aspects. Lets start with why I needed dog training. I adopted Lizzie as a puppy from a rescue. Border Collie / Aussie mix. High energy dog who was previously a stray living on the streets. She had zero socialization and didn't know how to interact with humans or dogs. She chewed anything and everything and you had to pry something from her mouth to have her drop it. Walking her was a nightmare, she pulled the whole time and walked in circles which led to her getting tangled in the leash. She would run around like a wild animal inside, people call those Zoomies. Lizzie had sick separation anxiety and I couldn't leave the room without her barking. If crated, whether we were home or not, she would bark until she was let out. If you ignore her and leave her in there for an hour, she'll bark for an hour, it was nuts. Lizzie obviously didn't understand any commands either, none. I wrote a message on Yelp and one of the owners Rick responded and let me know what was realistic, where I should manage my expectations, and how to enroll in boot camp. I appreciate that Rick made it clear what they could accomplish and what wasn't likely to stop right away i.e. they can teach the 'leave it' command but my dog is a puppy so left unsupervised she's still going to pick something up in her mouth that she shouldn't. We opted for the three week bootcamp. We left Lizzie at PDT for three whole weeks. She slept there, she ate there, she trained there, she played there, and she LOVED it there. It can be hard to leave your new canine friend for that long period of time but PDT does a pretty good job of posting photos and videos of the dogs on Instagram. Each dog receives there own hashtag i.e. LizziePDT was my dog's. When we picked her up we completed a training session so we could understand how to issue and correct commands. Dude....brand new dog. She didn't lose her quirky personality but now she could sit, stay, heel, come, down, wait, place, leave it...and more. Didn't pull on the leash. Anything she picks up she drops promptly when I issue the command. Plays with other dogs and her favorite place is the dog park now. She's a little skittish with some humans but warms up quickly. She does well around kids too. She's much more confident and independent and the separation anxiety is much improved. No more barking when we leave the room or have to crate her. Although our experience has been top notch I think it's important to note that you as an owner will need to do a lot of work too so that what your dog learns in bootcamp you enforce and strengthen. Don't expect to just pick up your dog and have perfection. 50% of the responsibility (maybe more) is on the owner to keep up with training and be strict with corrections. Your dog also needs to learn how to take the commands from you, for 1-3 weeks she's been receiving commands from a trainer who had a different voice and is much more confident than most dog owners. With that being said, if you follow the take- home instructions and stay on it you'll have amazing results. Such a massive improvement in the month and a half we've had Lizzie back home. We did a follow up session onsite last week. We got to tune and tweak any commands we were having some issues with. Awesome session, very informative and now Lizzie is better than ever. Boot camp includes one more in-home session that we will complete in Feb. Bootcamp is expensive, I won't list costs because it's not my business to publish quotes but the training isn't cheap. It's worth every penny though, the owner and dog will be able to create a relationship that is invaluable and everyone will be happier. It's an investment in your sanity and your family lol. The staff and trainers are great. Very nice, love dogs, and are well experienced trainers. I'm looking forward to taking advantage of the board and train in the future. My fiancé and I did the one month bootcamp for our two dogs Maya (80 lb Mountain Cur) and Gilon (6 lb toy poodle). They are obviously very different dogs and came in with different required areas for focused training. I don't think there are sufficient words to describe what a transformation our dog Mac has gone through since starting his work with Premier Dog Training. We got Mac in December of 2020 and by the summer time we're having a lot of issues with him such as chewing, destroying the house (eating the walls and floors), running around in our house to the point he would hurt me (I was pregnant at the time), leash pulling, jumping on people and counters and attention grabbing with his mouth and paw. We sent our 5 month old lab puppy to the 3 week boot camp in August 2022. We have 3 small children and simply did not have time to train the pup properly. Our PDT trainer was Connor and he was amazing! Communication both before we dropped our pup off, during her stay, and at pick-up were top notch. The front desk staff is lovely. At pick-up, Connor did a wonderful job training me and my husband on how our pup had been trained, explained everything, and answered our many questions. Our pup was clearly well cared for by the kennel staff and it was abundantly clear at pick-up how much our dog loved Connor (and he loved her!). We've now all been home for a few days and having a well-trained puppy has been a game-changer. Our pup is still only 6 months old so as Connor explained, we will need to continue reinforcing what she learned at boot camp to make sure it all sticks. Let me start by saying I put a good bit of time into searching for a place to board my two large dogs. My wife and I haven't gone on a vacation in a very long time and one huge reason is that we were very nervous about their care. I spent hours on the phone and internet reading reviews and calling. Also visited one that looked the nicest. I have two large and active dogs (German Shepherd Dog & Giant Schnauzer). I needed to make sure their care was in the hands of people who understood the breeds and really cared. I had narrowed it down to another facility that looked very nice. It was an upscale property and the amount of exercise based on what you paid for. I thought it was the best option and I was going to pay for the most exercise. I thought it may not be enough but could live with it. Then an odd course of events. I had a plumbing issue at my house and my plumber (who has a German Shepherd Dog also) mentioned Premier Training and his great experience. I looked it up online and then went there to see the place. Honestly, very nice and very clean but not over the top as far as facility. What was "over the top" was the staff. From receptionist to handlers and owner. With each interaction I felt that there was empathy (for me) plus knowledge and understanding with real care for the dogs. Next step was to bring my GSD to see how she would react. They evaluated her and she interacted with staff very well. So I made a reservation that day. Plus, since they had never been boarded, I brought them to daycare 3 times before boarding. Each time I picked them up they were happy, clean and had a good report. Finally, vacation time and we spent 8 days away. We brought their food with instruction and each day we called to see how they were doing. When I would call the receptionist would not quickly say "great" or "fine"...she would actually reach out to the staff (I occasionally could hear) to get a real daily feedback and relay to me. It just put me at ease. At final pickup my dogs were happy and clean and wonderful. To Hanna, Emily, the owner and the rest of the staff...THANK YOU. We rescued our Ellie at the end of January and we immediately realized she had anxiety problems and could not be left alone in the house (even in a crate). I called Premier Dog Training desperately and spoke to a very patience lady who gave me advice on what we could try before taking other types of actions. We eventually agreed to send Ellie to Doggie Day Care where she would be watched and could interact with other dogs. It was one of the best decisions we made as it meant she was in a safe environment surrounded by people who love dogs and tons of dogs! Ellie has her favorite handlers while at doggie day care, and I can see the care and love they have for any dog that gets dropped off there. Ellie became less anxious to be home alone as the weeks/months went on, but she was still a loosey-goosey, silly, not-focused dog. You would give her a command and she was do it if she liked or not at all. Off-leash was not an option as she would run in the opposite direction of us. A few months later, we decided to send her to 3 weeks boot camp. Another one of the best decisions we've made. When we dropped her off, we spoke with one of the trainers who completed an intake form so they can understand what areas they need to focus on with our dog. When we picked her up on her last day, she was a different dog. She was dialed in and focused. She can do the commands on first 'order'. If she didn't, we would re-inforce the techniques that we were taught to correct her. She is very good with the basic commands of sit and lay-down. She is still working very hard on stay and wait. We have worked with her in a public setting of stay while dropping her leash beside her and she does well until you walk 'too far' in her opinion, then she walks towards you. She is much better on walks now and does not zig-zag. She knows she has her range and will slow down if she walks too far ahead. After her training, we were given a prong collar, e-collar, and a new longer/stronger leash. We were given a lesson before we went home with Ellie on how to use our new tools. We work on her commands every night to re-inforce what she has learned and it has and will continue to pay off. We would definitely recommend Premier Dog Training for your dog day care or training needs! They are kind, knowledgeable and can deliver results! read more

I'm very disappointed with Premier. My pup used to attend doggie daycare and I honestly thought he was getting a full day of both fun and socialization but they were not honest with me. Back in the Spring when I was picking him up, the tech told me he did very good for the first time in group play as she handed me the leash and walked away. I thought, huh, first time in group play, he has been going once a week for almost two years. I don't understand. I called the office the next day to find out what was going on, does he not get to play with the other dogs, I was very confused and concerned. I was told that "his" trainer will call me which never happened. So, the next week at pick up I asked the person who brought him to me how he did in group play, I was told he wasn't allowed in group. I wanted answers so again I called and was given the same response, a trainer will call you, never happened. So I was finally able to speak to several kennel techs and I was told he is not allowed in group because he "plays rough" he is to high energy for their staff. Keep in mind he is a working line shepherd who loves to play, yes, he is high energy because he comes from a champion line of working shepherds and we work with a sport trainer twice a week. I was told he is outside alone, by himself to play and is potty walked, he never ate his lunch which was never handed back to me. He is on a raw diet and it's expensive so instead of tossing it away the tech should handed me back the bag with the food, and told me he won't eat lunch, then I would have known not to bring his lunch. I was informed he spent most of the day in a kennel. So, why am I spending $300.00 for a 10 day package for him to sit in a kennel. Well, it all makes sense now, at drop off he would hug me and hold onto to me as the kennel tech would be trying to take him from me. He didn't want to go back and who could blame him. I wanted answers and I wanted to know how my dog was being treated so again I called and was told that group play stopped and only the dogs in training were allowed to participate in group play, but, a trainer will call you. Never heard from a trainer. I had tons of questions and no one would call me to discuss my concerns. My sport trainer was shocked and told me he is far from being aggressive or having any behavioral issues, my sport trainer has been training dogs for 30 plus years and has trained many truly aggressive dogs. Since leaving Premier my dog attends another doggie daycare. At pickup after his first day at the facility I asked their head trainer how was he, did he play. The trainer said he was fine, fun, loving, and full of pep. He spent the entire day in the adult daycare room. The photos that were taken of my dog and posted on their fb page showed a very happy boy. When we got home he had dinner and slept for hours, I had to wake him up for his last walk of the night. He looks forward to doggie daycare and now when I hand over the leash to the kennel tech he just bounces down the hallway to the kennel and at pick up he isn't clinging to me, he isn't stressed and every tech told me that they look forward to Wednesdays and seeing him, he is a joy and so much fun. I'm disappointed in Premier maybe if one of their trainers would have called me, and we worked on the issues that they were having my boy may still be attending daycare there. I have a young, very energetic Springer Spaniel who was inconsistent with responding to commands. No more! Our walks are now enjoyable for both of us, and the training on door manners/place is a game changer. Premier came highly recommended, and after researching trading facilities in the area they were the obvious choice. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and amazingly patient. The registration process was thorough, and I felt confident booking Nellie for their 3 week bootcamp program. What a great decision! On her first day I met several staff members and received a tour of the facility. I then met with Alexis, Nellie's primary trainer. She walked me through their training philosophy/process and asked so many questions about my pup and the behaviors that needed to be addressed. Although it was hard leaving her there I felt confident she was in good hands and would be well cared for. During Nellie's three week stay the staff provided continuous updates on Nellie's progress, and also posted several pictures and videos on Instagram. Nellie clearly adored Alexis and it was awesome to see the progress she was making. On graduation day I first met with Alexis to review the commands, techniques and tools. Finally got to see my girl and practice handling Nellie with guidance from Alexis. It's a lot of information, and we were sent home with very detailed instructions on all aspects of the training. Nellie has settled right in and we are both much happier. She's the same loving, goofy girl - with much improved behaviors. Our walks are pleasant, as she no longer pulls like a sled dog or lunges at every squirrel. Opening the front door no longer requires super human strength to hold her back. She calmly stays on "place" and pays no attention to what's happening in the foyer. I'm looking forward to our follow up lesson and will be very comfortable boarding Nellie with Premier. I've used their daycare, boarding, and bath services, and they are incredible! My pup goes to daycare there normally 2 days a week, and all the staff seem to just love her and take the BEST care of her. I was able to get her nails trimmed while she was at daycare once, saving me some time after work, and they did a great job! Even after moving 15 minutes further away, I still bring my dog here because she loves it so much-- she always has new friends to play with and sometimes she gets a cameo on their insta or a little note/report card saying how much fun she had. And when I did have to board her over a weekend once, I knew she was in good hands and having fun in the big play yard and comfy kennels. We sent our almost one year old German Short-haired Pointer, Maggie, to the off leash 3 week boot camp. During this time they worked on all basic obedience commands on and off leash. She is not perfect with all the commands yet, but she is tremendously better. We were given homework to do with her every day to keep up her training. Repetition is definitely key. After being home for a few weeks she is still doing very well. I am not able to work with her every day on her training, but I do at least 5 times a week and try for twice a day. Today was her in home session with Rick. When Maggie saw him, she was so excited. It took a her a bit to calm down. He spent the next almost hour working with her and with me on things I'm struggling with in her training. With his help I know what changes I need to make. We plan to send her back for more training, because we are planning to train her to become a service dog. I highly recommend Premier Dog Training to anyone wanting to have a well trained dog. The staff is very friendly and helpful. They also send updates along with pictures and videos throughout the training. I had a pretty horrible experience here. My puppy went there at about 8 months old. He's VERY hyper and just is very difficult. I paid for the 3 weeks off leash training which is extremely expensive. They posted FEW pictures of him the whole time which made me very sad. I sent him with a bag filled with food and they didn't give me the rest of the bag which is very expensive by the way. But the worst part is he wasnt trained at all. He only knew how to walk on a leash with the prong collar and he only learned 3 commands which he still can barely follow. The trainer basically said he was impossible to work with, but isn't that your job? I worked with him every day at home and after a month I reached out to do the other two trainings that are supposed to come with the off leash and they sent VERY rude emails back basically making me feel like it was a burden to schedule my PAID FOR time with them. I'm at my wits end now, 5 months later as he's grown even more anxious, more rambunctious and more untrainable. Don't waste your money. read more

We brought our 5.5-month Bernese Mountain Dog, Ralph, to Premier for their 3 week boot camp. Our main issue with Ralph was that he was basically scared of everything. We were getting to the point where we essentially couldn't bring him anywhere near a crowded place because he would get so skiddish. He wouldn't greet new people or let them touch him. He was never aggressive, just very fearful. He also was very nervous about things like doors, which made it basically impossible to get him in any new building besides our apartment. He was essentially in a frequent panic with anything new or even mildly alarming, and we felt awful for him. Premier was amazing from the start. They laid out the various programs that were available with a lot of clarity. Jes and Rick were very receptive to understanding that while we hoped for obedience, it was not our main concern. We visited Premier with Ralph before committing to the boot camp, and Rick spent nearly an hour with us getting a sense of our concerns, then did some one-on-one assessment with Ralph to get a clear picture of whether it seemed like something they could help with. He did a great job explaining the ways they would customize their approach to Ralph's problems to help him gain confidence. I'm happy to say that after 3 weeks, Ralph is much much improved. The moment we got out of the car at home, he immediately greeted one of our neighbors who he had previously run away from consistently. Overall, he's doing great and while it still makes him a bit nervous, he generally does a much better job with doors, new settings, more crowded environments, and new people. On top of that, his obedience is really strong. In terms of the service, the whole Premier team was very responsive leading up to boot camp. Once he was there, they posted an instagram of Ralph every couple days (which we loved) and were in touch with us about how he was doing and how they were approaching his training. At one point Ralph had a runny nose while at Boot Camp, and they had a vet to see him that day (just ended up being some allergies). We wanted to give a big shout out to Premier Dog Training. Our dog Kobi has been going to this dog boarding and training center for the last 2 1/2 years. When we first got our German Shepherd, we were in need of training! We sent Kobi for 3 weeks of Boot Camp where he learned how to respond to a series of commands and improve his social skills with other dogs, people and children. Then it was our turn to learn how to become better handlers. The trainers were excellent as were the other handlers on staff. We logged on to their Instagram page every night for those three weeks to catch a glimpse of him, training and playing in the yard. After his stint at the Premier Boot Camp, we began taking Kobi back weekly for a daycare, which for him is like camp! Every time he sees us packing up his food bag for the weekly trip there, he paces back and forth waving his tail knowing exactly where he is going for the day! We travel 30 minutes to get there and as we come close to the exit, he starts waving his tail and panting. We could almost put him at the wheel to drive there! She has been home for 2 days and is doing great. I am so impressed with the effectiveness of this program. We brought two of our pups to premier for boot camp (one two year old female, the other 5ish). They randomly developed severe aggression towards each other despite being best friends previously. After the boot camp we worked with the dogs and they are back to being best friends. I was cautiously optimistic but premier gives you the tools you need to really get the best out of your furry friends. The money was well worth not having to rehome one of our dogs. Premier dog training has changed my relationship with my dog. Before I took my dog to their boot camp program, I was ready to rip my hair out. We just weren't on the same page with anything. We choose the 3 week boot camp program. When we got there to pick him after his time there, we immediately noticed a difference in our huge puppy. He was willing to listen, to take instructions and he knew what he was doing. Haha. Within days of getting Sarge home, we couldn't believe how much calmer he was and willing to learn more and more everyday! I used Premier 3 years ago to train my German Shepherd pup and have been back several times at the old kennel Premier use to use. I took her this time over Christmas to the new location and cant say enough good things about it. Clean, spacious, modern...lots of activity and exercise for the dogs. Just a beautiful facility and am so proud of what Premier has accomplished. This is well worth the 40 minute drive from Falls Church, VA. In short (in case you don't have time to read my novel below), the Premier Dog Training team is phenomenal. Their methods work, they're helpful and responsive, and their boot camp program is exactly what you need to get your dog on track. I know every dog and story is different, but these guys really care enough to understand your situation and do what's best for you and your dog. Yesterday was a great day. I spent my morning with the Premier Dog Training team in a post-bootcamp tutorial and follow-up session for our very sweet 6-month old English bulldog puppy Georgie. My experience with Premier began 3 weeks after we brought our sweet bundle of joy home in September. As a first time pet owner (I can barely keep plants alive), I felt immense anxiety around the puppy, who was 4lbs, insanely cute but a tremendous amount of work. My first email to the Premier team probably went out at 3am, as I sat at the foot of my bed rocking back and forth in a full-blown panic attack. I laid out all of my concerns: puppy was having trouble potty training...because I didn't know how to potty train, puppy refused to walk on a leash, puppy play biting too much, and most importantly...I was near emotional collapse over our decision to get a dog. Yikes! My first meeting with Jes was practically a therapy session. She took 2 hours of her time (before I was even technically a client!) to talk me through potty training techniques, feeding schedules and training techniques. She was matter of fact, supportive and beyond helpful and even taught Georgie to 'sit' during our meeting. She quickly picked up on the fact that I was struggling and resolved to address my anxieties before worrying about training my dog. I signed Georgie up for boot camp that day, and started counting down the days until December. Between our first meeting and yesterday, Georgie and I began to form a bond that was constantly tried by potty accidents, long, frustrating walks, and the occasional rainy day standoff (pouring rain, refuse to go potty outside, pee on floor as soon as you come back inside). It was a long three months. The day we dropped Georgie off at camp I was confident that she would come back better behaved, with a few commands under her belt. I was blown away by the actual progress she made in two weeks! She worked with Jessi and became more patient, calmer, and 150% more obedient. She's a joy to walk with, she stays when I ask her to, she sits when waiting for direction. I can't recommend this team and program enough. Georgie is a happier dog because of it, and I am a totally new person. I wish they offered childcare and training for spouses. We are life-long clients! read more
