Seriously don't go here. I am on a temporary work assignment in Champaign for 16 weeks. I needed a dog groomer. I thought that PetSmart would be a reasonable option. It was awful. My dog has hair and needed a hair cut. The groomer did not follow any of my instructions. They also upcharged me $20 to use my own shampoo. They returned my dog with cuts and abrasions, most notably on his testicle and penis. My dog was shaking and spent most of the next 24 whimpering overtime some one tried to touch. Stay away. I went to PetSmart to get some freeze dried treats for my very allergic dog. They only have one small isle of treats, but they did have freeze dried salmon and beef liver. They had a sale, buy 3 get one free, so I got four, since it is very hard to find treats without added ingredients. Part of this is my fault because I was not paying attention to the cashier and just paid for the treats and left. When I got home, I looked at my receipt and I was charged full price for all four --- no buy three get one free. I won't be going back to PetSmart -----EVER! read more

I've had my dog groomed twice- first time was traumatizing. We've had great experiences in another state, so after much thought, went bk a 2nd time, knowing the first tech was new, giving them a chance to make it right- requested a more seasoned groomer, explaining in detail- just this and that only ... please do not cut her hair and holy heck- if she didn't came back with the worst hack job I've ever seen! She is a long haired dog. Perhaps they thought Sping was a good time for a short hair cut? However, she's a small inside dog, hence, "do not cut her hair please." I went their to get some fish. I told her what I want and she asked how big is your fish tank. I told her she said it's recommended to only get this certain amount of fish for my fish tank. She kept repeating herself so I did to so I wanted a bigger fish. She would only let me get these little fish that weren't even as big as a quarter. I have a decent sized tank to I have enough door for a decent sized tank I also wanted a shrimp apparently a shrimp needs a 5 gallon tank I'm like ok I have a 20 gallon I have enough room. I payed $8.82 for fish that are more tiny then a quarter and the fish I just had to get aren't going to grow any larger then what they are. I don't recommend buying fish here at all. read more

Grooming: Very impressed with the quality of my goldendoodle's haircut and also the empathy and patience of the groomer who did her haircut. She informed me that my puppy was scared of the noises and new environment but she took her time and did an amazing job. The groomer listened to my request to keep Olive fluffy but still trim her down so her hair was more manageable. The wonderful groomer was Britni, she's the head leader of the grooming staff and has a lot of experience. I will definitely continue to go back! read more

I talked to three different employees trying to get a prescription faxed to their store from my vet office. I was given their fax number by the girl in charge, called my vet office they faxed prescription immediately. Pets mart claims they didn't receive it. Extremely rude girls working there. I asked if they could call and get a verbal prescription in this case since they aren't receiving the fax and was told no, it had to be faxed. Employees are absolutely worthless. I was not able to get the prescribed food I needed for my dog. Terrible way to run a business. Will not go back. read more

They have a huge selection of food, toys, treats, and any other pet-related item you may need. Service is always great. The store associates are always available and are quick to help you find whatever you may need or answer any questions. Bottom line: it's a one stop shop for anything you need for your pets. Okay, I am not reviewing petsmart as a store. I am reviewing the training only. I adopted a 3 year old collie lab mix about 4 months ago. She was in desperate need to training. She tried to attack every dog we go near, and is very nervous. Kelsey has been our trainer for months now. We finished the beginner classes with her and are now in the middle of the intermediate. The first day of class, Lily bit one of her class mates right off the bat. Kelsey explained what she saw and how to help. Now Lily plays with that dog like nothing. She learned everything very fast and what we have been learning has been extremely helpful in the real world. Not tricks, but real skills. read more

First, I want to say that the employees do not seem happy here. It's literally 12:51pm and I just picked up my dog from getting his teeth cleaned. Well they were not cleaned at all. I watched the employee "clean" my dogs teeth, just literally swiped a toothbrush in his mouth. I knew something was up when the employee told me it will only take 5 minutes to clean his teeth. Went to pick him up and there were many excuses on why his teeth wasn't cleaned. Blah blah blah, I'm not taking my dog back here. Petsmart is a great place to shop for your pet, with your pet. The downside is that they do seem a bit overpriced for almost everything they sell. I spent $10 for a bag of dog treats and almost $80 for a dog sweater and boots. which I found obscene. (not just the price but dog clothes themselves). you can find almost everything sold at petsmart cheaper on the internet but then you pay shipping so it evens out. read more

Scheduled dog for bath with furminator. 3hrs later they tell me it will 1 more hour saying they are just finishing drying her. They call 10 min later saying she's done, how do you dry and brush for 20min in 10min, so now I have a wet dog that obviously wasn't brushed well. I spent $78 on this! read more

Took the dog for grooming, told the stylist we wanted to grow his hair out and we just wanted a trim. We got back practically a buzz cut dog with the hair ends of his tail snipped, so his tail has an awkward looking curve at the end. I will say this about Petsmart: First, the people who work there are friendly. Second, they will take back, without question, anything that doesn't work for you. Even if your cat doesn't like a toy, they will take it back. Is there anywhere else in town that would do that? I am about to take back a $16 "bone" made of plastic and wood that my dog, who is a puppy and who chews everything, is not the least bit interested in, to Prairieland Feeds, and will see. Never had any trouble finding anything for my cat here. There's a huge selection of food, toys, etc. (as there is at every PetSmart) and the employees were all friendly and helpful. The only downside of shopping here was that depending on how many people are there when you go, the lines get long and they don't usually think to open a second register. Everything they sell is 2x the cost you can find elsewhere with minimal effort. If you are looking for food/medications/all consumable supplies, these can be ordered on the Internet or purchased at other big boxes, such as Wal-Mart and Target for huge savings over this idiot-trap. I am an aquarium hobbyist, and I have to say that this particular PetSmart has a pretty good number of freshwater fish, but the health and quality of their livestock is quite poor. Further, while this is not unique in the trade, they obviously kill a lot of fish here (and sell a lot of sick ones). They have some REALLY poorly informed people here working in the aquarium department: I asked a girl if they had any Florite brand substrate and she began looking in the fish meds section (substrate means gravel). So, if you are tempted by their relative (to Sailfin) low prices on SOME of their items, do your homework before you go, and know exactly what you are looking for and how to determine that item/fish/plant/whatever is healthy/compatible/safe. Otherwise, go to the place where the people actually know what they are selling and will ask you questions to determine if your tank is right for what you're buying. PetSmart has absolutely no saltwater stuff. If you are tempted to buy an aquarium here, do yourself a favor and look over the past few weeks of the Craigslist "Pets" and "For Sale" posts. You will pay 1/5 the price or less, which of course means you can get bigger and better! read more

This place is affiliated with and looks like Petco (which is in Bloomington and everywhere else). Since pet stores really monopolize the field of specialized pet products, of course their prices are sky high. For example, my cats eat Hill's Science Diet, Sensitive Stomach formula. Every month there is a $5 sale on all big bags of Science Diet (light, hairball, adult, kitten) EXCEPT Sensitive Stomach. It's simply because there is no other food that works as well for cats with IBS-like conditions that is not a vet formula. So $28+tax for 17.5 pounds of food (by comparison, 20 pounds of Whiskas runs $8, Natural Choice, Nutramax, Royale Feline, and Eukanuba are all around $17-24 for the 8-pound bag, $30-ish for 17 pounds). Prices aside, I love going in the store because I live for my cats, and one huge place completely devoted to their needs (furniture, catnip, toys, food, litter, leashes, collars, shampoo)... Heaven! However, I do not enjoy the open pet policy where everyone under the sun brings in a dog. Panting, shedding, drooling, smelly... I'm not a dog fan. I also do not enjoy the caged up animals for adoption... But, it was a lot easier to look at them once I figured out they were shelter animals, not specially bred for pet store sales (like other stores!). I also respect that they have volunteers go in nearly every weekend and set up shop to get the animals adopted. Nonetheless, every time that I check-out here, they always ask if I want to do a $1 donation to animal shelters. Kind of irritating, being trapped and pressured at the register, looking heartless if you say no, but also realizing that you have no income... The first and second times - sure, add the $1, no big deal... even though I have adopted my cuties from a shelter and volunteered countless hours at shelters. The third time - not so giving... and then felt guilty and selfish and figured the checkout chick thought I was mean... Anyway, personal insecurity there, probably. But, if you're like me and don't like being pressured into philanthropy - no matter how small the dollar amount (it's the principle) - now you can have a gameplan on what to do before you ever hit the register. For me - probably a donate - don't donate - donate - don't donate undulation of conscience.... Anyway - clean, overwhelming variety of choices, rather expensive. read more

PetSmart: STAY AWAY FROM THE PUPPY CLASS! We went to PetSmart puppy class as part of our adoption requirements from Champaign County Humane Society. The class was pricey but we love our dog and thought it would be worth it. It was not. The trainer asked us to leave after completing 3 of 10 sessions. She kicked us out in the middle of the 4th session. She said our dog's barking was disruptive to the rest of the class, then tried to sell me private lessons, which was another $100+. She focused on my dog's aggressive behavior entirely and refused to address the fact that he was also clearly emotionally distressed. The environment was in my humble opinion, a BIG part of the problem. I thought about asking for a refund but was too upset myself. I have a lifetime of experience with shelter dogs personally and on a volunteer basis at several shelters. I have a Master's degree and specialize in communication disorders in children and adults. The trainer didn't know that. I was too heartbroken to educate her. She acted like my opinion was worthless. This happened approximately 3 yrs ago. A friend inspired me to post this. My dog is such a sweet, special little guy. PetSmart broke my heart and lost a lifelong customer that day. I have not put a single foot in the store since. read more

My opinion has changed a few times about this place. But lately, I love it since our bulldog, June, is now on prescription dog food and this place actually carries her food! It's so nice not to have to go to our vet every single time. Overall, I had a great experience at this location! I have always gone to PetSmart for all my pet care needs when it comes to my dogs, so it wasn't any different when I decided to get a hamster! The employees were incredibly helpful and very knowledgeable on hamster behaviors, and which hamster might be best for me. Sadly, we had to come back in today for a new water bottle because the one that came with the cage we bought was broken. However; one of the sales associates, I believe his name was Adam, was beyond helpful and made sure that we got the water bottle we needed at no cost since we got a broken product the first time! The only problem I ran into was not being able to find an employee when I had a question about cat food and it took a couple of minutes to find someone that was able to assist me. It's a fairly large store, so I understand that the employees can't be in every aisle at all times, but it would have been nice to be offered assistance rather than having to go ask for it. This is the second time I brought my cocker spaniel home after a cut and shampoo and again she went crazy with itching all over her body. Her ears were so itching I wondered if they cleaned them as they said and she was scooting her hinny too so did they empty her gland as they said. I even had a special shampoo treatment for the price of $72. and she reacted the same way. Are you using cheap products as they are certainly are not effective, so what's up Petsmart? I even got a refund for a bad haircut another time so I have not been pleased with them enough so I will not be going back anymore. I do not recommend coming here with your dog for grooming. They do a fine job with the actual cut (hence the two stars instead of one) but I get the very strong feeling that the groomers do not care very much about the dogs. While I was waiting to pick up my yorkie, I watched another little guy tied to one of the grooming beds shake because he was so scared. He kept looking for a place to hide, but there was nowhere for him to go. Everyone just kept walking by him while they took care of other dogs. Not one person stopped to comfort him, and I was standing there waiting for at least 10 minutes. We won't be coming back. read more

I scheduled my poodle to get a hair cut on a Wednesday at 9am and wanted to pay extra to get the express cut done (which takes approximately 1.5 hours). I planned on waiting in the store and doing homework because my classes started that day. However, on the day of, they called me at 7:30am and asked to reschedule to 8am. When I came in, they said they could no longer do the express cut. After picking up my pup hours later, He smelled and looked great, but he still had mats in his fur EVERYWHERE and I paid an extra $7 for them to de-mat him. It wasn't just a few, there were knots behind his ear, all over his head, and his armpits. The main reason we took him was because of the knots (as we were not able to bath him for two weeks after being neutered and he began to mat quickly & our efforts with a brush was not helping with). Additionally, the shampoo/conditioner they used cost another $21. Overall, my dog should've looked perfect and I shouldn't have to touch anything up after having to reschedule & pay $92. read more
