A&B Scissorhands is the best groomer in town, hands down! I just realized today that we have been taking our dog to Al and his team for over five years and I have never shared a written review. Our dog was physically hurt and verbally abused by another groomer in town. Needless to say, our dog's mental state when seeing a groomer was terrible. And, we were so scared to take him anywhere else. He would literally scream when being taken into a groomer and it would take days for him to recoup mentally after grooming. But, then we found Al and his team. What makes this place stand above the rest? First, Al met with me and Ted, our dog, to try and understand the issues he had in the past. Second, they work with each dog at their appointment time, they do not keep them in crates all day - this means your dog is done and ready to go home in an hour or so, depending on their size and grooming needs. The dogs are not stressed out all day long. Third, Al listens to you, the owner, and he learns your dog's individual personality. He begins to know what works and what doesn't and he adjusts grooming to help the dog have a better experience. What's more, he begins to understand specific health or mobility issues. For instance, Ted hates the dryer, because he was burned badly by another groomer, as a puppy. So, Al has to hand dry Ted. Sure, this makes it harder for Al, but he does it because it helps Ted stay calm and less traumatized. Al is beyond excellent at what he does and I know he genuinely cares about my dog. This makes me feel better when leaving him for these vital grooming visits. To top it off, Ted comes out looking great every time. It is always super easy to schedule. And, we consider Al a great friend! I am so glad we found A&B Scissorhands all those years ago! This business is cash only and is worth every penny! read more

Passing through town in a road trip, our Pomeranian jumped in a slimy fish pond at Alerton Gardens and we needed her cleaned up. All the groomers were booked, but this one was available. In a desolate strip mall, it's not the most charming area, and the business name is a little disconcerting. I was imagining her fur all chopped to bits. So I specifically asked the groomer to do no cutting. Well, he ignored me, and in this case I'm glad he did. When I picked her up he had slightly rounded out her ears and straightened up her paws. She was the cutest I'd ever seen her. I wish I could find a groomer in Chicago who has the same magic touch! What talent the gentleman had. However, my dog is a Goldendoodle and he is kept shaggy, I instructed the staff not to cut my dog's fur short and even showed a picture of a shaggy cut dog for reference. Al does a phenomenal job with my 2 dogs, Schipperke & Pomeranian. My Pom is a rescue who had a very rough beginning. He is crazy about Al. My Schipperke is not very social but she accepted Al from day 1. Both of them love their grooming. I have always been 100% satisfied with his work. I always get the exact cut that I ask for. Appointments are very easy to obtain without waiting a couple of weeks. I get an appointment within a day or two. And here is the best part, I don't have to leave my dogs there for half the day. Traveling & needed a groomer for our Llaspo Very glad we found this place. We were told his dry skin was probably from bathing too often. He digressed red we do a very short cut so his skin could breathe & moisturize. We were pretty hesitant but decided to do it do glad we did. Three days later he is hardly itching at all. My dog is ~30 lbs mixed breed. They did a good job on her & charged me $40. That's $20 less then where I was going previously. The shop is clean & nice. I think they clipped my girl a little too close in the nether regions because she seemed pretty uncomfortable for a few days. Otherwise a very good experience. I will take her again. read more

We are loyal A&B Scissorhands customers because our small dog Drake is treated so well here. Grooming is thorough and affordable. "Scissorhands" refers to the owner's skills at hand-trimming fur. We always marvel at how attractive and good-smelling Drake is after a 1-hr visit to A&B! Our dog can be fearful and stubborn at home, but he goes right into Al's arms without a fuss. Great service!! I brought my 8 year old mini schnauzer in for a wash and haircut. I find traditional schnauzer haircuts too severe, and asked the groomer to give him a softer look. With minimal instruction on my part, the groomer did an exceptional job shampooing and styling my anxious pet. Also, he was done in 35 minutes! I like that my dog doesn't have to spend hours before/after the grooming appointment in a crate. Highly recommend! read more

I took my yorkie to this establishment for grooming.....cut, shampoo. etc. the owner/groomer Al, cut my dog under her left eye. when i came to pick her up he said nothing. i looked at the cut, asked what happened and he told me he nicked her. he said to put peroxide and water on the cut for a few days and it should be ok. after 5 days, i went in to see Al. he looked at my dogs cut and said to continue using the peroxide and water. within a week and a half, my dogs eye began to swell. i called Al again and told him her eye was now swollen. he said maybe i should take her to the vet. i asked him if he felt responsible for her being in this condition and he told me no. i said the vet is very expensive and it will cost me a lot of money. he again said it was not his problem. i took my dog to the emergency vet and was told she had an absess. i should not have used peroxide on her eye so much. it healed on the outside, but not the inside. when all was said and done, i paid $160.00. i want everyone to know that Al of A&B Scissor Hands will harm your pet, give you very, very bad advice on how to take care of them and then not feel the morale right to help right what he had done. read more
