We've always done the bath and brush with the luxury treatment, and every time he walks out smelling delicious and looking like a million bucks! You can tell the groomers truly love what they do. Part of the PetSMart experience is being able to take your pet shopping with you - This Oswell store, however, has a chirping alarm that hurts my dog's ears & scares her. When I got home from my most recent trip, I called the store & spoke to the manager. She indicated that they HAVE to have the particular alarm that they have, even if some dogs react poorly to it, stating that there were no other alarm options. That simply is not true! NO OTHER STORE IN BAKERSFIELD has an alarm that a person can hear, let alone a dog! We went over and that register didn't work. She moved us to lane 3. Still didn't work. The woman behind me has 2 items and offered to just buy her items online so she could leave. I asked what I should do. 3 employees looked at me completely bewildered. I went to the back of the line. If the employees aren't going to back me up, I'm not in the mood for the fight. Grooming dept was confronting customer about breed of dog stating customer was incorrectly identifying breed and that the grooming dept would change information on account and that if the customer was not comfortable they could take their pet somewhere else. The staff mentioned that his "original" groomer may be misidentifying the pet for a discount of approximately $5, which is an insignificant amount. Customer had agreed to pay difference to avoid confrontation with staff, however after dog was left in the care of the grooming dept, Grooming dept then proceeded to take dog to Banfield next door to ask what breed animal is. I understand that my dog my be taken to the vet in case of emergency, however I don't believe this situation is an emergency. The groomer that handled my pet was "Leanna P" however I was unable to identify the staff member that was making the comments due to not having her name tag visible. Our family has taken all of our pets to PetSmart Grooming for 10+ years because of the friendly/exceptional customer service that has always been prevalent however I am sure the performance of the grooming dept at the East Hills (Bakersfield) location on 3/26/24 was not up to PetSmart standards, which is very disappointing for our entire family. read more

I have taken my dog here for over 9 years now. Each time the service is absolutely horrible. The staff is rude, they don't treat the animals very kindly, and the jobs they do are always half done. When I take my dog to get his nails trimmed, they always come back looking the same. When I take him to get bathed, he is barley cleaned. I would pick him up and he would be shaking. I thought this was normal. I started taking him to another vet and he would leave happy! I only went to them for so long because of the convenience (I live down the street) and the price. Terri likes to call her employees stupid as well as intimidate everyone one of them. Deborah(salon leader) hates working, she gives her request clients to other people then takes credit. She likes to leave clients in kennels for hours before even starting them (then rushes through them making them stressed and leaving them with an utterly shitty haircut.) she loves family calls while on the clock, she prefers those over helping actual clients on the phone. NOW, with that being said, store 0084 is utterly horrible no matter what you do.. the salon has gone down the toilet and it's all due to management . If you want to stay sane I do not recommend this location. The store itself, is great. It's clean and most of the people on the floor are super friendly. Their 2 newest managers(Ramona and Veronica are amazing and I really hope they don't allow Terri and Carolyn to drag them down because these ladies are great!) If you want a good place to work this is not the place, it's up to you if you believe me or not I am just trying to warn the people who are passionate about life and passionate about dog grooming. I used to be that happy then I went to this store and it progressively broke me down in the 2 years I was there and I lost all passion for it. If I need something I usually come to this location, mostly for my fish Atticus or crickets for our dragon. The girl I usually see is really nice, spunky personality but lord help me...what it takes to get help getting cricket or fish. I asked who looked like a manager for help, she said ok, we waited almost 15 minutes for someone and that's after I asked a second time....and the worker was like "We already said someone will go over." Oh by the way after we waited, they were out of what I needed and we had refrigerated groceries in the car. I basically plan on getting stuff and make sure I don't need groceries too because of that experience. Their stock is always low, sometimes customer service is shotty.... We have always had bad experiences here. Today was def needed for a review. My wife called today because our cat had some issues and we wanted to bring her in to heal her. The lady that answered, don't recall her name, but it was today around 730am. This lady was aggressive and rude and yelled at my wife to take her to the emergency NOW. She said the her doctor will be there in one hour. My wife explained to her she is getting there and will be there before the hour. The lady was super upset and aggressive and yelled at my wife and hung up the phone on my wife face. Our cat is doing fine now we took her to another place and they are healing her. The lady needs to get fired and retrained how to talk and calm down pet owners! I was going come and grill her for making my wife upset but decided to just avoid this place. We have brought our animals here before and they scare you to death and charge you ridiculous amount of money for something other places will charge 1/6 of the cost. They try to force you to sign up for their monthly plan and if you are not interested they make you feel like a monster!!! Next time you pass by this place stand outside and look at their sign and the other businesses signs, you will notice that petsmart sign is the only sign that has those pokey things that so birds can't set on it. We took our husky to get groomed. I like how they are open on weekends and how easy it is to get an appointment especially early in the morning. Hailey did an amazing job with our girl, she looks like a whole new dog! Hailey was so nice and my dog really liked her, I felt totally comfortable leaving my dog in her hands. Also, I appreciate the knowledge she had about husky's fur, she explained to us how to she was going to trim her hair & the reasons why. Last time I took her to a different groomer, she came back looking really "choppy" and uneven. But this time she looks sleek and perfect, not to mention she smells amazing. And that's a negative ! I'm crying as I post this. We have used the grooming services previously and while it wasn't the best groomer it was ok in a pinch. Our regular groomers is booked several weeks in advance, today I was reminded of why. I took my puppy in for a puppy cut. Specifically asked that she not be shaved because of the weather. When I returned to pick her up she was shaved head to paws! I don't even recognize her! I asked why was she shaved down to the skin and was told because she was matted?!?! This puppy loves to be brushed. I'm there shocked and upset, I told the "groomer" I brush her every day, she then tells me I should be using a metal toothed comb?!?!? Well there was no talking to the manager, because supposedly she was the manager????!! Please please please don't do it, save yourself the upset and frustration. Wait out the month for a real groomer. It's not cheaper, in fact it was more expensive. But what can you do once it's done it's done. I love shopping at Petsmart for all my pet related needs. This Petsmart is huge and carries a wide selection of pet products for dogs, cats, birds, reptiles, fish, and rodents (mice, rats, gerbils, hamsters, bunnies, guinea pigs). You can even find supplies for ferrets, which are illegal in California so I assume everyone is purchasing these supplies for friends who live out of state (wink). For many years I had parrots: an African gray, a Patagonian conure, greencheek conure, cockatiels, and budgies, and I bought many of my toys and much of my food at Petsmart. I have purchased dog food, dog treats, dog beds, and a wide variety of other supplies here for a succession of dogs I have owned. No, I'm not one of those dog owners that thinks of their pets as disposable; I keep a pet until it makes that trip over the rainbow bridge, I've just continued to replace these pets over the years and Petsmart has been my go-to spot for pet food and supplies at reasonable prices. Fifteen years ago, when I first moved to the Bakersfield area, I was living in Arvin and brought pets to the Banfield Animal hospital at this location. I specifically remember Dr. Dendy, who eventually moved to the Ming Ave location I think, took very good care of our animals. I had nothing but good experiences with this Banfield location. If you get a new puppy or kitten, they have a program, similar to health insurance that you can sign up for their first year of life that covers all the various vaccinations and spaying/neutering that is quite cost effective. Bonus - the bathrooms at this location are always clean and well stocked with toilet paper and soap! This location sells fish, reptiles, birds, and rodents on site, but not dogs and cats. Periodically there are cat and dog recue organizations that hold special adoption clinics inside the Petsmart store. Around Christmas they will usually have a Santa Claus available to take pictures with your pets, but call to check availability as it's been a few years since I've seen that. Petsmart is your place for low cost high quality pet food and supplies. read more

Had our dogs groomed 4-23-16. We've taken them here for five years, but the haircuts this time were a complete mess. When you pay almost $90 for grooming and it looks this bad, you're not certain if you're ever going back!!! Our Shih Tzu Yorky mix was/is a mess. His head wasn't even finished, leaving uneven and untouched areas. I could've done that! There were several patches on both dogs that I had to trim. Maybe they're letting Super Cut washouts practice on our pets now... I've been ill, but plan on calling the manager this week and asking for a do over. I will amend this if they fix it. We took the one dog back for a redo, and it was comped. The manager mentioned that she wished I had called them sooner; I don't know what difference it would've made... We had a six week old feral kitten adopt us about seven months ago. Took her right to PetSmart for a collar and a tag, and to the Banfield clinic in the store for initial shots and checkup. Everyone here, from the people working the floor, to the dog trainer, cashiers, and the entire staff in the clinic are top notch people. Dr. Vincent is wonderful, not just with the animals, but with their people. Now, just a little over a week ago, another little feral kitten showed up on our doorstep, and we did the exact same thing. Straight to PetSmart, Banfield, and Dr. Vincent. I like this location even though I don't live on this side of town. The staff is always willing to help you out if you have questions or concerns. It's in a convenient location seeing my pets vet Dr office is located inside. They even have a grooming spot. I'm not to thrilled on there prices. Seeing I can get the same product at a cheaper price at Walmart but you cant have it all I guess. Sometimes they have pets for adoption. They even offer and hold puppy lessons inside on select days. And of course you are more than welcome to bring your pet with you. So with that said if you're in the area and are willing to spend some extra cash this this is pets store for you. read more

Not Service Dog friendly! My last visit to Petsmart was horrendous. I was followed around the store and I was asked to leave by management, later returning to speak to upper management and was told by both to leave because I was working with a service dog in their store. I was told from management "that it is against store policies" and that it is a "conflict of interest" to work with a service dog in their facility because they offer basic obedience training. I have contacted their headquarters in Phoenix Arizona and I never received a callback. I have also contacted several other Service Dog trainers in different areas of the state as well as other states and Petsmart is NOT Service Dog training friendly. I'm not sure why this location has such poor reviews. I've always had nothing but great great services here. From the Vet, to the people on the floor, to the cahsiers. 1. The vet is amazing, I had 2 very sick puppies who were on the verge of dying and they saved their lives , and totally helped us through everything, even gave us coupons to cut the prices down. Every check up they seemed to care about my dogs just as much as me, if not more. 2. The people on the floor are always really nice and helpful. They're so nice they actually make me feel bad about my customer service as my job. 3. The Cashiers are always very friendly and helpful.
