    Queenie in her little cone
    Haily S.

I had my Queensland neutered and my pug spayed here over the past couple of years. The check in process is a little chaotic but the prices make up for it. It took me about 45 minutes to an hour to check in both times, so be sure to arrive early and do your paperwork online to save time! Pick up is a little more smooth because there aren't a hundred dogs standing around at the same time barking at each other! One thing you should be aware of is that flat faced dogs cost more, but they didn't tell me that at any point during the scheduling and check in process. I only learned about this fee after I paid the original fee and they took my Queenie to the back room. I had to pay the additional $20 at pick up. The staff is so friendly and helpful and seem to really love animals! I wouldn't hesitate about leaving my dogs here because everyone is really alert and attentive. I would recommend coming here to spay/neuter your pets and to get vaccines and boosters!

Smooth and easy check-in and out and loving and caring staff. Also checked in with a phone call on how my fur baby was doing.

    Long lines

I'm rating in the middle for these reasons. I came with pet for a vax 2 days ago and the window where they take pet information and payment had only one person! Today I came back earlier in the day and there are 3 people making the long line much quicker in this Bakersfield summer heat! It's so imperative that a daily wash down of the concrete sidewalk we wait on for all the dog poo and pee puddles. They do provide misters and a couple fans to cool us while we are in line so that is a good plus. Cleanliness is sorely lacking and they only opened a few minutes before we got here so this represents days of business dog mess and the smell is pretty horrific which attracts flies as well. You must have pets in a leash/harness or in a kennel and they recommend a muzzle for barking dogs. I witnessed one woman get turned away because her feline was too angry to be handled. Come early, they take walk ups at 10 however at 8:30 am there is already a long line. It would be nice if they made more payment stations available to streamline the process. Maybe a website to streamline payment where you can pay in advance?

They were so helpful & the staff was extremely kind. I felt welcome & comfortable. They fixed my cat at an extremely reasonable price as well as microchipping him & giving him a flea treatment & a amoxicillin shot because his foot was hurt. Absolutely adored the staff & the girl w the pink eyelash extensions was so sweet. I would definitely recommend this place & I would trust my baby coming back here 1000x you could honestly tell that the staff genuinely cared for him. The vet was so kind & informative as well! Thank you for all that you guys do

Ask the Community - Critters without Litters

Do you offer recovery cones or do I have to bring my own?

We provide e-collars. They are included in the cost of the surgery.

If I take my dog back due to getting an infection after getting fixed , what would the cost be?

No charge for a recheck, unless the doctor recommends additional medication that would help the situation. They want to make sure your pet is properly healing after surgery.

Can I make a 7:30am appointment for vaccinations or are they only offered during the clinic hours?

Hello, Vaccines are only offered during our walk-in hours, Monday through Thursday between 10 a.m.…

Does anyone know if they will loan a carrier in order to catch a cat? I have a cat I'd love to help. Do they help get or give meds if needed?

Critters provides cat traps for rent. $75 deposit that is fully refunded when the trap is returned clean and in good working order. Please contact the clinic directly at 661-831-6000 during regular business hours for answers to your questions. Thank…

We thought she had hurt a hind leg and was just in pain. Doctors did X-rays and blood work. X-rays were good but the blood work showed an infection along with a fever. Docs put her on fluids for her dehydration and gave her IV antibiotics. After a couple of days in the hospital her fever was down and her blood work looked closer to normal, but she still wouldn't eat. We went out on Saturday night and spent about an hour with her trying to calm her and get her to eat. When we got there she had a petrified look and was scared to death. We were able to talk to her and pet her but still couldn't get her to eat. Doc said she might not eat there because she was so scared. We left her one more night for the fluids and antibiotic IV and a recheck of her blood work on Sunday morning. Temp was down and blood work was close to normal so we brought her home. After checking out the backyard and house she and our other cats all relaxed. She's eating and drinking like crazy now and just demanding attention. Everyone at VCA was great! From the receptionists to the technicians and doctors! Thank you for the wonderful care our little girl got! You all are fantastic!!

They gave him an IV and something to help him, but it was too late. He was in a lot of pain and I had to make one of the hardest decisions ever. They were patient, respectful, and helpful. I wish I hadn't needed to bring him in at all, but glad that since I had to, that it was here. My 15 y/o mix had been ill for some time. NOT HERE: First, we were told he had a mass, but most likely benign. I was hopeful and scheduled his appointment for a month out. He was not looking great, so I rushed his appointment to get it removed mid-June. They removed the tumor 6/24 but by then the cancer had spread to his lymph nodes. He's been home and being taken care of. Yesterday he wasn't doing well... I took him to a different ER because it was "more affordable" - big mistake because 12hrs later and we had not been seen. Yes, I paid a little more at VCA, but now I see why.

I would say it takes roughly half an hour, talking over your family pet, as they calmly give your family pet a three step process. Dr Martin was very gentle with our family dog Miles and as we spent our last moments with him, she peacefully sedated him, as well as talked us through their process. Instead of putting your dog and your family through the stresses of a veterinary office definitely give A Peaceful Process a call. You can schedule your appointment online and the will work with your schedule.
