I've been a bit distant from my Yelp family as of late. Perhaps because of my many losses this year, including that of my dear sweet Jackson, our 13 year old beagle. Jackson came to us from Nor Cal Beagle Rescue in 2011. He was a laboratory beagle, used to test cosmetics, pharmaceuticals or whatever they needed. We'll never know exactly what he had been through but at 18 months he was the most innocent and sweet being I had ever met. Never touching grass, or seeing sun our other beagle Penny taught Jackson to be a real dog. For almost a decade we had them both but as of 2021 we lost Penny and utilized Dr Martin's services. Then this year we again needed her, albeit a bit too early than we had expected, for Jackson. With kidney failure and multiple other issues, we conferred with several specialists. We did the best we could, spending as much as it could possibly take to keep Jackson healthy and happy. Ultimately we knew it was his time when his quality of life began to fade. If you've ever been in this position you know how difficult and humbling it is. I love my animals as children, and having to make this decision is incredibly difficult. But Dr. Martin is a real angel. When I say it's better to make an early decision to wish one too late, I mean it. I would much rather be able to have a beautiful goodbye in the comfort of my home than a frantic stressful decision inside a hospital. Dr. Martin is not only kind, but she remembered us from Penny's passing. That was comforting. She was simply amazing in easing Jackson to the other side.
