Extremely disappointed with the lack of professionalism and consistency from the front office staff…read moreat Thurman Veterinary Clinic. I called around 8:30 a.m. this morning to establish care for my two French Bulldogs and was told that they were accepting new patients but it would be a month out. The receptionist began collecting my information to create patient charts, discussed scheduling appointments for June, and was in the process of preparing the required $40 per pet appointment hold fee when the call was disconnected. When I called back later, a different receptionist informed me that the clinic was not accepting new patients and that I would not be able to establish care there. When I explained that another staff member had literally begun the intake process and was preparing to collect payment for appointments, I was simply told, "I don't know, but we're not taking new patients." The complete lack of communication and consistency was incredibly frustrating. Based on the glowing reviews, I expected a much more professional and organized experience. While I cannot speak to the quality of the veterinary care itself, the customer service and handling of front-office communication left a very poor first impression.

The wonderful ladies in the front office gave me the opportunity to bring her in that morning. Dr B ran tests and offered options on next steps for immediate treatment via a referral to urgent care. Even though the Dr and staff saw my pup for a short time they showed so much compassion. It is obvious how much they care for their patients and their "parents". I am extremely disappointed and disheartened, especially because my family and I have been bringing…read moreour animals here for over 20 years. This used to be a place where I genuinely felt like the front office staff cared about us and our animals. Unfortunately, it now feels very unorganized, with staff often not on the same page. Today, I was specifically told to bring my cat in before 9:30 a.m. because of concerns with her stitches. I arrived at 8:30 and waited about 30 minutes before being told the veterinarian had just gone into surgery and may not be able to see her until 3 p.m. I understand surgeries happen, but why was I told to bring her in before 9:30, and why wasn't I informed when I arrived? What concerned me even more was overhearing a front desk employee tell a coworker that she had sent an animal home with the wrong amount of medication and had to call the owner afterward with the correct instructions. Hearing her laugh while discussing something that serious was extremely unsettling and unprofessional. I've also overheard multiple conversations about other clients and their animals that I don't feel are appropriate to have within earshot of the waiting room. After more than 20 years of trusting this practice, it's genuinely upsetting to see how much the experience has changed. I really hope the communication, organization, and professionalism at the front desk improve.

We thought she had hurt a hind leg and was just in pain. Doctors did X-rays and blood work. X-rays were good but the blood work showed an infection along with a fever. Docs put her on fluids for her dehydration and gave her IV antibiotics. After a couple of days in the hospital her fever was down and her blood work looked closer to normal, but she still wouldn't eat. We went out on Saturday night and spent about an hour with her trying to calm her and get her to eat. When we got there she had a petrified look and was scared to death. We were able to talk to her and pet her but still couldn't get her to eat. Doc said she might not eat there because she was so scared. We left her one more night for the fluids and antibiotic IV and a recheck of her blood work on Sunday morning. Temp was down and blood work was close to normal so we brought her home. After checking out the backyard and house she and our other cats all relaxed. She's eating and drinking like crazy now and just demanding attention. Everyone at VCA was great! From the receptionists to the technicians and doctors! Thank you for the wonderful care our little girl got! You all are fantastic!!

I wish I hadn't needed to bring him in at all, but glad that since I had to, that it was here. My 15 y/o mix had been ill for some time. NOT HERE: First, we were told he had a mass, but most likely benign. I was hopeful and scheduled his appointment for a month out. He was not looking great, so I rushed his appointment to get it removed mid-June. They removed the tumor 6/24 but by then the cancer had spread to his lymph nodes. He's been home and being taken care of. Yesterday he wasn't doing well... I took him to a different ER because it was "more affordable" - big mistake because 12hrs later and we had not been seen. Yes, I paid a little more at VCA, but now I see why.

I'm not the type of person who likes to complain, but I feel it's important to share my experience…read morebecause this has become very frustrating. I understand that the receptionists are in training and that mistakes can happen. However, there have been too many mistakes, and it is becoming concerning. I chose this clinic because it is more affordable than other veterinary clinics. When I picked up my dog after discharge, I was told that one of her medications would cost a little over $100. I agreed to pay it, but when I got home and reviewed the full receipt sent by email, I realized I had been charged for three instead of one. I called the clinic, and they confirmed that they still had the other two medications. I had to drive back the next day to pick them up. I let that situation go because I understood the receptionist was still training. Unfortunately, two weeks later, I experienced another issue. My dog had a follow-up appointment scheduled for Wednesday afternoon, so I called to reschedule and asked for the earliest available appointment. I was offered Thursday at 8:15 a.m., which I accepted. I drove all the way from Taft to Bakersfield, checked in, and waited about 10 minutes before being told that the doctor was off on Thursdays and that my appointment would need to be rescheduled. This was extremely frustrating because I had made the appointment over the phone and drove all that way for nothing. We then agreed to reschedule for Saturday at 4:15 p.m. I spoke with the manager and explained my concerns about the repeated mistakes being made at the front desk. Even after that conversation, I called Thursday evening to confirm my appointment and was told I was scheduled for Saturday at 11:15 a.m. I corrected them and reminded them that we had agreed on 4:15 p.m. They said they would fix the time. Today, I received another confirmation text for Monday, October 19, at 11:15 a.m. At this point, I honestly don't understand where the communication is breaking down, but it is unacceptable to keep receiving incorrect appointment information, especially after I have already discussed these concerns with the manager. I understand that training takes time, and I have tried to be patient and understanding. However, clients should not have to deal with repeated mistakes, wasted trips, and confusion about appointments. I chose this clinic because of its affordability, but affordable care should still come with good communication, organization, and customer service. I hope management takes these concerns seriously and works on improving the situation because this experience has been very disappointing.
