HONOR PET helped make a hateful day bearable. My 16-year-old Shiba, Monju, was at the end of her life after a rapid decline. I didn't want her to suffer, and though she wasn't in distress, I could tell she was laboring to stay alive. Having never faced this before, I was lost. Most vet sites didn't list end-of-life care, 24/7 emergency clinics had awful reviews, and house-call vets were booked a week out. Finding HONOR PET was a godsend. Their website guides you step-by-step through end-of-life options, costs, and exactly what happens during the final moments so you can prepare yourself as best you can. You have two options: you can choose to have the procedure done at HONOR PET's Comfort Center or you can schedule an in-home option where the vet will come to your house. There's one more option: if your fur baby died and you don't need euthanasia services you can use HONOR PET for the Water Cremation option. Parking is available, but it's a little confusing to get to because there aren't any signs that indicate where it is. There's a map on the website, so as you turn into the driveway, any empty space against the building is available to park in. Don't park in any space that has a sign saying "reserved for" and don't pull into that little area that is set apart by a fence. You can read about my experience or you can stop here. All the pertinent info is listed above. I chose their DTLA center, where they take you straight to a private, home-like room with couches, pillows, desk, all the things you'd find in a house. This way your pet isn't stressed out by being in a sterile and unwelcoming environment in a vet's waiting area, surrounded by other animals. The room had a home vibe (pictures of the rooms are on their website) and felt welcoming and --strangely enough-- cheerful. I took Monju out of her travel crate and sat on the couch holding her on my lap, while scratching her head and neck, and talking to her. She laid there resting, opening her eyes to look around every now and again. The vet came in, I think her name was Dr. Claire, but I wasn't focused mentally that day to remember, but she was great. She had a calm demeanor, showed compassion and empathy, and made the dire circumstance seem not as dark, at the same time never downplaying the seriousness of why we were there. She went over the procedures step-by-step and explained other things that might happen to prepare me and to make sure if I had any concerns or questions I could raise them. Dr. Claire (I hope that's her name) gave Monju the sedative in an injection. Almost immediately after the sedative was in her system, I felt the tension leave her body as she relaxed, drifting into a deep sleep. She even started snoring. After about 10 or 20 minutes, maybe sooner, making sure that Monju was in that deep relaxed state, the Dr. started an IV that delivered the cocktail, taking her to the other side. She passed away quietly and peacefully in my arms without gasping or convulsing. In fact, I didn't even realize that she passed until the Dr. checked her heart and confirmed it. Dr. Claire was incredibly compassionate and told me that she needed to put Monju in a blanket and arrange her body before rigor mortis sets in. She added that Monju will be handed back to me and I could stay up to an hour to continue saying goodbye. But I didn't want to stay since Monju's soul/spirit was gone. Honor Pet was doing the cremation and after you have said your final goodbye, the Dr. takes him/her and that's when they prepare for the cremation. You don't get the remains back the same day, it takes about a week or so, if you choose the option that has the ashes come back to you. The other option is to have their remains cremated and the ashes will be added to other pets and then scattered or buried. I read on the site that if you have a different idea of cremation or how you want to handle the body, you have the choice of taking your furry child somewhere else. BTW, Honor Pet only offers the Water Cremation as an option for cremation. When I was handing my baby over for the last time it broke my heart and I almost lost it. In that split second, I felt the overpowering need to let out a primal scream and break into that ugly cry. Somehow, I didn't and as fast as that feeling hit me it was gone. I kissed Monju on the snout and handed her over to Dr. Claire, who lovingly wrapped her up in a blanket and took her body away. On my way out the staff continued to offer their condolences, and I left with a mixture of sadness and relief knowing that Monju was peacefully at rest. I'm not sure what I would've done without the support and compassionate care that I got from Dr. Claire and the wonderful staff at HONOR PET. Thank goodness a place like this exists. read more

A Peaceful Goodbye for My Sweet Bear There are truly no words to fully express how grateful I am for the care and compassion my family and I received from Honor Pet Comfort Center during one of the most difficult days of my life. I brought my sweet Bear in after 12 beautiful years together, knowing that it was time to help him peacefully transition after his health had declined. From the moment we arrived, everyone was incredibly kind, gentle and nurturing. They understood the weight of what I was walking into and treated both Bear and me with so much tenderness. Dr. Wammock was absolutely incredible. From the moment she entered our private room, there was something so calming about her presence. She spoke softly, explained what was happening, and handled Bear with such gentleness and dignity. Every single thing she did felt intentional and compassionate. When she administered his sedative, she was incredibly tender with him, knowing how much discomfort and distress he had already experienced. She then gave us uninterrupted time to hold him, cuddle him, love on him and say our goodbyes before the final injection. When that moment came, she was just as careful. She even covered Bear so that our final memory of him would not be watching him receive a needle. That small gesture meant more to me than I can adequately put into words. Dr. Scott was also phenomenal and showed our family so much compassion throughout the experience. I will forever be grateful to both of them for the dignity, patience and love they showed Bear in his final moments. Of course, saying goodbye to him was heartbreaking. But somehow, in the middle of all that sadness, Honor Pet created an experience that was also incredibly peaceful and filled with love. I walked away devastated that my baby was gone, but also calm and reassured that I had made the right decision for him and chosen the right people to help me through it. Bear was loved beyond words, and knowing that he was treated with that same level of tenderness at the very end means everything to me. He is now in their care while I wait for his ashes to come home, and I feel completely at peace knowing that he is in good hands. I spoke with Lisa, who was communicating on behalf of Dr. Andy, about scheduling a euthanasia appointment for my English bulldog. He has been experiencing increased anxiety and territorial behavior alongside extremely bothersome health issues that has been affecting him since he was a puppy, and this was already an incredibly painful decision for our family. What made the experience even harder was receiving back-to-back calls asking me to give him as many as 25 pills to sedate him so the doctor would feel comfortable administering the medication. I explained his history with his regular veterinarian and that he has been able to be around other people without problems. I understand that safety comes first, and I respect that a veterinarian needs to feel safe handling an animal. Still, I was concerned by how this was handled. If veterinarians and groomers have been able to be around him, I expected a more reassuring approach during such a difficult time. For the premium price charged, requesting to pay an additional $75 to administer pills to him myself, I also expected to feel that the clinic was equipped to help us through the appointment. Overall, this was a very unpleasant and upsetting experience. I would not recommend this clinic. This is an already traumatic situation for our family and I hope this review can give them some feedback for future families and their pets. I expected the calming experience, the cremations and additional gifts I was paying for to make this one I felt comfortable doing after it happened. The price didn't matter, our pets peace and our family was priority. However, I won't be able to get that here. read more

Everything was really great until after the euthanasia. They got us in pretty quick with a rush surcharge and the doctor who came was empathetic and patient as she walked us through everything. She explained that my dog's ashes should be ready in 2 weeks. At 2 weeks, we called them for an update. They said there was a delay. We called them again at 3 weeks. Still not ready. We called again around 3.5 weeks and they said a few more days. At 4 weeks we received an email saying our boy was ready and we went to go pick him up. It was quite stressful calling in over those two weeks of delay to figure out if and when my dog's ashes would be ready. A proactive message from their side would've made the experience a lot better as we needed to keep calling in to figure out what was happening while also grieving. I was hoping to provide a positive review. The packaging of my fur love remains appeared nice, initially. I was naturally already sad opening up the box given this is done with a heavy heart of missing my fur loved one. However, I was only set up to be more disheartened to read the incorrect engraving information on my cat's paw prints! I was mortified, and disappointed. I try to understand mistakes can happen. Sigh though. A mistake like this cannot be undone, I tearfully have to acknowledge now. It is a sad mistake on a company's / service's part; and frustrating / alarming / disheartening to have to accept as a customer knowing it cannot realistically be fixed. I will not be able to get the correct paw prints and engraving back now as she has already been cremated. Do I display them? What would be the point if it reads incorrectly. Brokenhearted to be a customer sitting with this predicament. Seems like such mess up should have been avoided all together. Scheduling an at home euthanasia apt for my 16 yr old dachshund was the most painful thing Ive ever had to do. My boy was declining fast, and honor pet made it fast and easy to schedule my apt online. I wanted to make sure my pup had a proper goodbye surrounded by love and family. Dr. Endo was incredibly compassionate from the moment she stepped into our home. she explained the process and allowed me to translate to my spanish speaking parents in order for them to understand as well. She was caring, compassionate, understanding and answered any questions we had before, during and after the process. Dr.Endo let us say our goodbyes without any rush or interruptions, she respectfully gave our family space & stood to the side while we cried and said our goodbyes. Our family never felt rushed NOT FOR A SECOND. The process was very peaceful and we were able to get closure with our pet before she respectfully took him back to the facility to get cremated. She even had a little bed for my boy laid out in her trunk with warm blankets and was so sweet through everything and let us kiss him goodbye one last time before driving away. At home euthanasia is definitely sometime to consider if you have the opportunity to do it and with doctors like Dr. Endo its makes everything a little less heartbreaking. I also appreciated that they accepted my Affirm card (as long as you have a physical or digital Affirm card). On the day of the appointment, Dr. Scott Cox kept me updated on his arrival time. He first gave me an estimate of 11:00-11:30 a.m., and as he got closer, he narrowed it down to 11:15-11:20 a.m., which I really appreciated. When he arrived, he removed his shoes before coming inside and greeted us in a calm, respectful, and compassionate manner. You might expect someone who performs this procedure regularly to become emotionally distant, but that couldn't have been further from the truth. I had to say goodbye to my sweet boy earlier this month and it was very heartbreaking. We had taken him to the emergency room and he went to sleep. I decided that I was going to have his ashes given back to me and the emergency room sent him to Honor Pet. Within 24 hours of receiving him, I received an email giving me options as to what I wanted for his last few memories. Two weeks later, I received his ashes, and was surprised to find that they had gotten his nose printed. It made me cry so very much. I'm so grateful to them for doing that. Henry was also given a tree in Madagascar, and a candle was given to me. I especially appreciated being given a brochure for grief support.
