He was prompt and professional but felt too business. The entire process must've been only 20-30 minutes. Dr. Au was everything you would ever want for this terribly painful event. Communication with her office/Tommy was very smooth via text message. I was able to understand scheduling and payment with ease. He was very patient with my multiple questions. Dr. Au (she introduces herself as Jeanine) was just wonderful. She arrived right on time (you get a 20-30 minutes heads up). There's a calm and warmth about her. I felt very comfortable with her acumen, and her entire being. My husband, a friend and I were all present and never felt rushed, or embarrassed. She even cried with us. She stayed for about 2 hours, and wrapped our beloved Winston in the most loving manner, in a beautiful blanket. I hope to have more animals in my life, and I unequivocally would want Dr. Au to take part in their peaceful goodbyes. Thank you, Dr. Au. Unlike our previous experience where we were able to book ahead of time and plan for our pup's passing, this was a circumstance where our baby needed immediate services -- his body was failing. Once I saw our senior 13-yr old pup was telling me it was okay, I called Dr. Gonzalez at 7pm. She was at our home by 10pm. Our pup had been sick for several years, and in that last week, our primary vet had already told us his health was declining, so we at least knew the end was near. And I had already mentally prepared to be strong and let him go when he needed to -- so I had Dr. Gonzalez's number on hand. We live in an apartment building, so we reserved a spot for her in our lot as close as possible to an exit. She came upstairs to our home, and she had brought all her equipment. I had already imagined how I wanted this experience to go for my once in a lifetime soul pup. I sat on his favorite place on the sofa, and I had him in my lap. Dr. Gonzalez gave me a pee pad to wrap around him within the blanket understanding there could be an accident in the process as his body released his spirit. I had a candle lit. I had soft music playing. We had low lighting on to honor what was about to happen. Dr. Gonzalez was also super accommodating to our 2nd puppy who was curious about her and wondering what was happening to his big brother. She didn't shoo him away -- she invited us to keep the puppy around so he can know his big brother was about to pass on. She gave us time to speak to Nuxx, love on him, and then let him go. Then, it finally happened. And Dr. Gonzalez stepped out of our apartment for awhile, giving our little family time to grieve, sob, and hold our baby close. Our puppy sniffed him too and said his goodbyes. Then she came back, and she asked us if we wanted to be the ones to carry him out or she was happy to do so. My husband carried him, myself and our puppy followed along -- felt like a procession down our apartment hallway. We got to Dr. Gonzalez's car, and we gently placed our baby's body in her car, and said our goodbyes again. Then...it was done. Throughout the experience, Dr. Gonzalez was so incredibly supportive, gentle, understanding, and patient. What else can you ask for when such a heartbreaking thing is occurring? When a spirit is literally fading in your arms? I am still not over losing him, but at least I know we gave him the most peaceful send-off we could: in his own home, in our arms, surrounded by so much love. If / when we need to go through again, I will continue to call on Dr. Gonzalez. RIP Nuxx.

I didn't want her to suffer, and though she wasn't in distress, I could tell she was laboring to stay alive. Having never faced this before, I was lost. Most vet sites didn't list end-of-life care, 24/7 emergency clinics had awful reviews, and house-call vets were booked a week out. Finding HONOR PET was a godsend. Their website guides you step-by-step through end-of-life options, costs, and exactly what happens during the final moments so you can prepare yourself as best you can. You have two options: you can choose to have the procedure done at HONOR PET's Comfort Center or you can schedule an in-home option where the vet will come to your house. There's one more option: if your fur baby died and you don't need euthanasia services you can use HONOR PET for the Water Cremation option. Parking is available, but it's a little confusing to get to because there aren't any signs that indicate where it is. There's a map on the website, so as you turn into the driveway, any empty space against the building is available to park in. Don't park in any space that has a sign saying "reserved for" and don't pull into that little area that is set apart by a fence. You can read about my experience or you can stop here. All the pertinent info is listed above. I chose their DTLA center, where they take you straight to a private, home-like room with couches, pillows, desk, all the things you'd find in a house. This way your pet isn't stressed out by being in a sterile and unwelcoming environment in a vet's waiting area, surrounded by other animals. The room had a home vibe (pictures of the rooms are on their website) and felt welcoming and --strangely enough-- cheerful. I took Monju out of her travel crate and sat on the couch holding her on my lap, while scratching her head and neck, and talking to her. She laid there resting, opening her eyes to look around every now and again. The vet came in, I think her name was Dr. Claire, but I wasn't focused mentally that day to remember, but she was great. She had a calm demeanor, showed compassion and empathy, and made the dire circumstance seem not as dark, at the same time never downplaying the seriousness of why we were there. She went over the procedures step-by-step and explained other things that might happen to prepare me and to make sure if I had any concerns or questions I could raise them. Dr. Claire (I hope that's her name) gave Monju the sedative in an injection. Almost immediately after the sedative was in her system, I felt the tension leave her body as she relaxed, drifting into a deep sleep. She even started snoring. After about 10 or 20 minutes, maybe sooner, making sure that Monju was in that deep relaxed state, the Dr. started an IV that delivered the cocktail, taking her to the other side. She passed away quietly and peacefully in my arms without gasping or convulsing. In fact, I didn't even realize that she passed until the Dr. checked her heart and confirmed it. Dr. Claire was incredibly compassionate and told me that she needed to put Monju in a blanket and arrange her body before rigor mortis sets in. She added that Monju will be handed back to me and I could stay up to an hour to continue saying goodbye. But I didn't want to stay since Monju's soul/spirit was gone. Honor Pet was doing the cremation and after you have said your final goodbye, the Dr. takes him/her and that's when they prepare for the cremation. You don't get the remains back the same day, it takes about a week or so, if you choose the option that has the ashes come back to you. The other option is to have their remains cremated and the ashes will be added to other pets and then scattered or buried. I read on the site that if you have a different idea of cremation or how you want to handle the body, you have the choice of taking your furry child somewhere else. BTW, Honor Pet only offers the Water Cremation as an option for cremation. When I was handing my baby over for the last time it broke my heart and I almost lost it. In that split second, I felt the overpowering need to let out a primal scream and break into that ugly cry. Somehow, I didn't and as fast as that feeling hit me it was gone. I kissed Monju on the snout and handed her over to Dr. Claire, who lovingly wrapped her up in a blanket and took her body away. On my way out the staff continued to offer their condolences, and I left with a mixture of sadness and relief knowing that Monju was peacefully at rest. I'm not sure what I would've done without the support and compassionate care that I got from Dr. Claire and the wonderful staff at HONOR PET. Thank goodness a place like this exists.

A Peaceful Goodbye for My Sweet Bear…read more There are truly no words to fully express how grateful I am for the care and compassion my family and I received from Honor Pet Comfort Center during one of the most difficult days of my life. I brought my sweet Bear in after 12 beautiful years together, knowing that it was time to help him peacefully transition after his health had declined. From the moment we arrived, everyone was incredibly kind, gentle and nurturing. They understood the weight of what I was walking into and treated both Bear and me with so much tenderness. Dr. Wammock was absolutely incredible. From the moment she entered our private room, there was something so calming about her presence. She spoke softly, explained what was happening, and handled Bear with such gentleness and dignity. Every single thing she did felt intentional and compassionate. When she administered his sedative, she was incredibly tender with him, knowing how much discomfort and distress he had already experienced. She then gave us uninterrupted time to hold him, cuddle him, love on him and say our goodbyes before the final injection. When that moment came, she was just as careful. She even covered Bear so that our final memory of him would not be watching him receive a needle. That small gesture meant more to me than I can adequately put into words. Dr. Scott was also phenomenal and showed our family so much compassion throughout the experience. I will forever be grateful to both of them for the dignity, patience and love they showed Bear in his final moments. Of course, saying goodbye to him was heartbreaking. But somehow, in the middle of all that sadness, Honor Pet created an experience that was also incredibly peaceful and filled with love. I walked away devastated that my baby was gone, but also calm and reassured that I had made the right decision for him and chosen the right people to help me through it. Bear was loved beyond words, and knowing that he was treated with that same level of tenderness at the very end means everything to me. He is now in their care while I wait for his ashes to come home, and I feel completely at peace knowing that he is in good hands. Thank you to Dr. Wammock, Dr. Scott, and the entire Honor Pet team for giving my Bear the gentle, dignified goodbye he deserved. During one of the darkest moments of my life, you gave my family comfort, peace and even moments of joy as we celebrated the beautiful 12 years we were blessed to have with him. I was in that place just a couple weeks ago, sobbing while calling around to find the "perfect" veterinarian...someone who would be compassionate, caring, calm, and patient, all while our beloved dog with a history of anxiety would feel safe to be around as she takes her final breath. I finally had my mind set on a vendor, but their schedules didn't work out at the end. As I cried uncontrollably feeling like I'm back to square one, our dog's regular veterinarian reminded me the most important thing was to do it quickly in order to ease our dog's pain. So I took a leap of faith, chose the first available veterinarian I could find, and prayed the yelp reviews were honest and accurate. And I'm so glad we found Dr. Charlie. He not only had all the qualities I was looking for, but was so supportive in guiding our family through those moments of vulnerability and grief. He was calm, compassionate, and walked us through how he could help. We were still in shock, so I told him my family and I needed to talk it over and would call back later. He understood completely. A few minutes later, without us asking, he texted a short list of options -- including a couple of pet cremation companies and his recommendation. We used the company he suggested, and it was the right call. We needed more time to process everything, which is why we didn't use Paws Cause's own service that night. WARNING ABOUT @CAMPCLINICS (Camp Animal Medical Project): We…read moretook our dog, Zappa, to Camp LA (Van Nuys this time) for the third time to get neutered. We used Camp because it was part of our neutering package with the shelter we adopted him from. The first two times, they said they could not find his testicles. We paid to have an ultrasound performed at our Vet, who were able to find both testicles, both undescended. Unfortunately, they do not do the more in-depth neutering procedure required for undescended testicles. So, we called Camp again to make an appointment and asked specifically for a location that could perform the more complex procedure due to the undescended testicles and use an ultrasound. The Call Center assured us that the Van Nuys location had an ultrasound and could perform the procedure. We took him in today for the procedure. Not only did they "search around for 30 minutes for the testicles" and not find them (their words), but we only found out afterward that they in fact do not have and did not use an ultrasound for the procedure. So, they put our dog through a procedure for nothing, charged us for it (because too much time had elapsed from our original adoption, due to the first 2 failed attempts), and they are now refusing to do anything about it, saying they are sorry but the Call Center person must have been confused. When we asked for an email or phone number for a manager we could speak with directly, the only thing they provided was an email address back to the Call Center. Not acceptable.
