Approximately a month ago, I took my cat , Popcorn, to Modern Animal and at the time I thought it was a terrible experience. However, I was wrong. Modern Animal realized that I was upset, and quickly responded to my concerns. They immediately reached out to me by calling, texting, and emailing. They took the time to go over Pop's file, showing me that the veterinarian in Manhattan Beach had taken very meticulous notes, however, they jhad not been added to my online file yet. They apologized and stated this was a mishap. I actually went back into the Culver City location, because it is closer to my home and the veterinarian and veterinarian technician were amazing. It's to the point that I feel terrible about giving them a one star review previously; It was clearly a misunderstanding. I now trust them implicitly. And, I will be taking all my fur babies to them.

They also just lack the professionalism- instead of saying upfront it's basically 3500 for each cat, they said it was 800 and then added bunch of stuff later on after i put my cats to sleep on gaba. Also hated the girl who tried to hide the pricing saying it was in the best interest for the cats, so i asked again and they finally showed me. They also charge for things they may use- so why not just charge after you are sure you used them. also told the doctor multiple times i can go to the VA to get his heart checked out but instead of that they said it was fine but wanted to run some extra test not covered by insurance in their office after i repeatedly told them i can take him to the va for get it cleared. this is horrible business model and should not be supported out of principle. this business model would mean less animals are rescued just for private equity pockets to get richer. Also the manager tried to poor shame cos i was appalled at the pricing and wanted to shop around and hello i did find a vet that charges 800 for full sleep and teeth cleaning. hallelujah. also no offense but 300 for rabies shot is also insane.

Because of those positive experiences, I trusted the VCA name and expected the same level of professionalism here after recently moving to Manhattan Beach. Unfortunately, my first visit here was the exact opposite. I arrived 11 minutes late to my appointment. I had my two-year-old son with me, and finding parking in this area was very difficult. When I walked in, instead of any understanding or even basic empathy, I was immediately told that they would not see my dog because of their 10-minute late policy. What disappointed me most was not the policy itself -- I understand clinics need schedules -- but the complete lack of compassion or willingness to help. There was no attempt to understand the situation, no effort to accommodate, and no sense that they cared about the pet or the owner standing right in front of them. As a long-time VCA customer who trusted this brand with my pets for years, this interaction felt extremely cold and dismissive. Veterinary clinics deal with families and animals who often come in stressful situations, and a little kindness or flexibility can make a huge difference. Sadly, this experience left such a negative impression that I chose not to reschedule and will not return to this location. I truly hope management takes this feedback seriously. A veterinary clinic should not only have policies -- it should also have compassion.

We have been taking our rescue dog Harpo to PAW for three years now…read moreafter searching for a vet that wasn't owned by the hedge fund vipers, and we found exactly what we were looking for with Dr. D at PAW. Harpo has had excellent care there and I have recommended PAW to several friends, who report that they too love this practice. Harpo was about to be 16 and has been incredibly healthy and vibrant until a couple of weeks ago. We then noticed a decline and brought him in for his annual physical a week ago today. We realized that Harpo was nearing the end and asked about end-of-life measures. Dr. D and her assistant Dani Ramirez were so reassuring and wonderful about just keeping him comfortable, feeding him anything he wanted at this stage, and watching for signs that he might need help transitioning. They assured us that they would be able to respond same-day if we got into a crisis situation and needed euthanasia. Those signs came Wednesday, Sept. 30, which will go down as the saddest day of my life when I realized that it was time to help Harpo in the most loving way we could. I called PAW when they opened at 8 a.m. and they got back to me 10 minutes later. Dr. D. could see him at 9:15. We wrapped Harpo in a towel, as he could no longer walk, and brought him to PAW. The next hour was painful but the entire PAW staff made it easier every step of the way. Dani even asked the vet techs to come to us to insert the IV line, so Harpo wouldn't have any more distress than necessary. It was the hardest thing I've ever done to end my beloved doggie's life, but it was the right thing to do at the right time, and Dr. D was a tremendous help. 5 Stars to PAW.

Dr. Finger and staff was aware of my hesitation to leave her. She stated she will try and get the ultrasound done in the morning, but could not make any promises. Well, she got it done first thing in the morning and my 21 year old cat only stayed there for about 30 minutes. The results weren't the greatest, but I am extremely grateful for what they did for my cat. They showed compassion and kindness. Thank you

While I don't expect Michelin star customer service--especially at a chain vet center where they are likely very overwhelmed with all the work--I do wish I could be met with a bit more empathy and kindness. Especially as pet parents who come in under a lot of stress with whatever concern their pet is going through. Coordinating with vet care has been a new thing for me, but I've experienced what it's like at other centers for their staff to be patient and understanding while walking me through all the logistics and various options when I call. So just leaves a bit of a sour taste in my mouth when the people I talk to are curt and impatient with me.
