Dr, Palmquest's bedside manner is excellent in the beginning before he drains your money with test, bloodwork and whatever else he can think of. He misdiagnosed my cats illness and problems twice. Once, I mentioned, I had no more money for test, his attitude changed and he dismissed my pet as...being old. I figured out her problem via the internet and took her to another vet. They found a mere respiratory infection. It is very sad that he is not the exception and merely part of the rip-off veterinarian crew! It is a disappointing to write a so-so review as we sensed some good at this provider. But we also experienced real discomfort with some of the mystery behind what they charge for and with the arrogance with which they defend their mystery and procedure. We experienced two sides, albeit personalities even, to this complex provider. What comes off as disdain for their customer base is not helpful either. So we looked at reviews on yelp. It was odd checking on yelp because there's a lot of good and some significant bad reviews - one sees many 5 star reviews peppered with a reasonable number of bad reviews that feel valid - they are well written, credible and sensible. Hmmmm.... So, it's very polarizing. Why is this? Well, a few weeks ago, I noticed an offer on Dr. Palmquist's website to customers offering a $5 discount if they posted a 5 star review on yelp. In my opinion, it is not healthy to solicit and pay for reviews online. This raised a real question in our minds why they have to buy a positive repute by "buying" 5 star reviews? It's just not credible. (Note that a couple weeks later - at present - I do not see that offer any longer, but the legacy purchased reviews remain...) We are very open-minded to alternative medicine and supplements and were very open-minded to this provider. But, this art can be mushy and owes explanation to educated minds to bolster it's credibility, especially when the diagnosis and muscle testing involves canines who aren't emotionally cooperative. (And especially when the provider has been soliciting positive reviews on yelp.) Sorry.....but it really is on the provider to provide this support and evidence. Unfortunately, I found my questions were met with anger and resentment, with the doctor essentially trying to shove acceptance down our throats or else. I never saw him, so let's get that established. I called on someone's recommendation, and was told that he's only taking a few new patients and I should tell my story and she would tell Dr Palmquist and he would decide if my pet was worthy (she did not use that word, but that's what she meant). I told her about my cat, rescued from a shelter with a terrible respiratory infection and lots of ups and downs and now it's back and I paid for all the testing and we know what it is, but he's not responding. She said they'd call me back in a couple days and let me know if Dr Palmquist would take him or not, if not she'd say, we are not taking new patients. She called back 3 days later and said Dr Palmquest wasn't taking new patients--meaning he heard my story of suffering and rejected us. I'm writing this review because that is a TERRIBLE way for a health practitioner to do business. If your practice is full? Then say: We aren't taking new patients--PERIOD. Not, tell us your heartbreaking story and we'll decide if your pet is worth saving. That's just heartless. Heartless. I'm an RN, can you imagine me telling you your kid isn't worth my time? Dr Palmquist had a wonderful demeanor great first visit. But one of the western medications he said my dog energetically tested for needing caused my dog blood in his stools. On my second visit, after I explain that my dog is now pooping blood from this medication, Dr. Palmquist still said that energetically he tested as still needing that medication which made absolutely no sense, and which I consider dangerous.I later found out that it is one of the known side effects of this medication and that if your dog has this you are supposed to discontinue at once. When we spoke on the phone after This visit to check in again and this time I found him arrogant and Really unwilling or unable to listen. Almost as if he felt that he was God and he really didn't want to hear any differing opinions. It was such a departure from my first experience with him. I found him incredibly disappointing. But what's worse was that after I shared my disappointment with him, he expressed a disinterest in making it right by so much as communicating with me about the upset. read more

The best doctors have excellent technical knowledge, but more importantly lots of heart. Dr. Palmquist excels in both areas. I first heard of him because three different people I met while walking my dog raved about him. The best word-of-mouth is when someone implies that you would be insane to go to anyone else. That's basically what these people said to me. My former vet was good, but with my dog's advancing age I knew that vet wouldn't support holistic care. Dr. Palmquist's first interest in holistic care was as a skeptic who planned to debunk useless treatment, but he discovered many alternative therapies were very effective. Rational, but open-minded; I think that is the best possible combination. The first time I went, the waiting room was packed (I'd been warned about this possibility), and I had to wait a bit, even though I had an appointment. Really not so bad, because while I waited everyone present raved about how amazing Dr. Palmquist is. Three years after my first visit, my dog is 13, had a major operation, with complications, and I know he can't go on forever. I see Dr. P. for a check up, and he is so happy that Remy is doing O.K., despite all of his problems. He had even called me after Remy's operation at a critical care facility, and said, "Thank you for doing so much to save Remy!" Doesn't that speak volumes about how much 'heart' this vet has? So I can join in the chorus of people who say that you would be crazy to go anywhere else. I had to take Sheenah back to Dr. Palmquist today. She was poisoned and the other vets in my area where I live (Lancaster) ran out of ideas so I took her to see Dr. P today and he did a muscle test on her and got her on some meds that will clean out all the toxins in her system. Sheenah is a distemper survivor for 5 years now thanks to Dr. Palmquist. He treated her distemper 5 years ago and cured her. Her immune system is compromised because of the distemper. I should have taken her to Dr P. In the first place. Dr. Palmquist is a miracle maker and a true gift from god. I don't know if this is Dr Palmquist's fault or Centinela Animal Hospital's, but considering my appointment was scheduled with him specifically I think this review deserves to be posted on both his and the Animal hospitals Yelp pages, so here it is again: I'm so upset with my experience here. I wanted to like this place so bad, I've heard great things from friends and I'm desperately searching for a holistic vet for my cat who is having health problems that are stumping other vets. I made an appointment a month ago specifically so I could be seen by Dr Palmquist. I filled out all the paperwork, talked to the receptionist on the phone twice, all of that. When we showed up that day, it took them 20 minutes to tell us they didn't have an appointment for us, and they could see us "sometime today" but we weren't guaranteed to be seen or to be with Dr Palmquist. Meanwhile, the tiny waiting room we were expected to wait in had 3 huge dogs barking and jumping on my cats cage making her extremely nervous. And my partner and I had already drove over an hour to get here and had to drive an hour to get home with our poor cat stuck in her carrier the whole time. So we just had to leave. I waited a month for this appointment. I could've taken my cat somewhere sooner and helped her get relief for her pain earlier but I waited for this because of how highly everyone speaks of them. But I am horribly disappointed and upset. They didn't even say sorry or offer me any sympathy! I work heavily in customer service and saying sorry goes such a long way, and I am so frustrated and sad to see people who work with animals act without compassion. read more

I've been with CAH and Dr. Palmquist since November 2019 when my 10 yo cat, Riley, was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma cancer - a very deadly and aggressive cancer. 3 other vets, including an oncologist, all told me that even with chemo, Riley would probably only live 4-6 mo at best. In a last ditch effort to save my beloved cat, I took him to see Dr. Palmquist who spent over an hour with us discussing the case, reviewing lab work, carefully examining Riley and conducting their muscle testing. He prescribed a strict regime of homeopathic tinctures (compounded specifically for him), changing up his diet, and administering a 3 different supplements, that are as powerful as chemo. In September 2022, it will be 3 years since his initial diagnosis and Riley is still here with us. Additionally, in the last year, he's also developed stage-1 GI Lymphoma. So now he's battling 2 cancers. His life has slowed down quite a bit, but he still eats well, poops fine, plays with his brother and gives cuddles. I'm incredibly grateful to Dr. Palmquist and the entire CAH staff. Who, by the way, all worked tirelessly during COVID and some of the staff came close to losing their own lives to save our pets. Dr Palmquist is my favorite vet in LA. My dog had major health issues when we got her as a puppy. He provided supplements to her, which has stopped her coughing. I trust him and go to him now for everything. The other LA vets I have visited for my dogs health didn't seem to care. I felt like I was a number rather than a person. Dr. Palmquist seems to care. I called him crying before I was even a patient- and he took time to call me back and give me medical advice. This is extremely rare in LA. I feel so lucky that I was able to connect with him, and I feel like he saved my dogs life. Worst receptionist Alex this lady is rude and frankly so unfriendly and at 8 am looks miserable at her job with furry friends. All the others there were friendly. We arrived before even opened doors to be sure we be on time. She just by passed us for some couple with a 8:30 appt which took 40 mi Nd. I asked what's going on this is frankly unfair and rude. Her reply" I have to get your chart ready" seriously we are first time pts. And we turned in the one page filled out. As I see dr . Palmquist I notice the chart he was writing in was 2 pages ours and a note page for his records. This lady has issues and be sure when you arrive be early sign in time and appt time . Try to be hopefully with someone friendly. What a horrible experience with this aweful human. Also she mentioned it's like going to a human dr. What no comparison lady lol. The worst . We have a very sick kitty and without even seeing us he spoke to us on the phone at length, made multiple efforts to get in contact with us and offered wonderful support even though we weren't even officially his patients. I was honestly waiting to post a review so I could see how my dog was doing. Our dog Coco was diagnosed with stomach cancer and severe pancreatitis in late January. His original vet (who I also love and am not trying to undermine in any way whatsoever) said he believed there was nothing we could do and suggested that basically if we chose to put him to sleep, we could do it that day. That's how far gone Coco was. He had stopped eating 4 days prior, had bloody diarrhea, and could not keep food down. He had been lethargic for a few days. His disease was very aggressive and he didn't show symptoms until we thought it was too late. I honestly thought about not letting him suffer anymore, but I didn't feel in my heart that it was too late. I began giving Coco CBD oil which got his appetite going and gave him a little more energy, and I was over the moon. I was so happy! But I knew we weren't out of the dark yet and I wanted to try something different. So I reached out to Dr. Palmquist. Let me start out by saying Dr. Palmquist is one of the most amazing people I've ever met. Doctor or not. He is so sweet and does not make you feel rushed at all. As a doctor he's even better. He has excellent bedside manner, such as kneeling down to the dog and waiting for them to come to him, and doesn't pressure them. He takes his time gaining their trust so they don't feel afraid. He actually understands animals and I think that is one of the most wonderful characteristics a veterinarian can have. Dr. Palmquist and I had a conversation on our first visit that was really important. I had to understand that he was not going to cure Coco's cancer/pancreatitis, and he had to understand that I got that. It was a mutual understanding that it was multiple kinds of treatment; once we got that conversation out of the way, we could start giving Coco what he needed. Dr. Palmquist is VERY knowledgeable about eastern medicine. I mean, I can't even tell you. This guy is a genius when it comes to this stuff. He knows what every herb does to every part of the body. His diagnostic tool is muscle testing, and if you have any doubts about it I highly suggest you try to come in with an open mind because whether it works or not, there is no doubt it allows Dr. Palmquist to diagnose his patients accurately. He gave Coco some medication to start out with and because Coco was a sensitive case, he saw him about once a month and changed his medication as needed. Coco slowly started feeling better. There were a lot of ups and downs, but now, 4 months later, it's been a constant up. Dr. Palmquist, I know you are a humble man and that not all of your cases turn out the way you want to and I know that it breaks your heart because you love animals so much and you put all your love and energy into every single animal you see. But I want you to know something: You did the impossible. You cured Coco's cancer. We just got a call from his original doctor with his results. His tests are not only cancer-free, but they are normal. There is no mass in his stomach anymore. His pancreas is normal. He is OK. I know he has a long road ahead of him but in the meantime he is running around with a wagging tail and an appetite like a bear. We are so grateful to you and your amazing staff for all you've done for Coco. They diagnose and treat pets to where they can lead happy and healthy lives through a mix of holistic and western medicine - one of my dogs suffered from several ailments including chronic bronchitis and Dr. Palmquist was able to treat her successfully and she had 16 wonderful years - several other pet owners I spoke with came from neighboring cities and states to have their animals treated when other clinics were unable to help.
