I didn't want her to suffer, and though she wasn't in distress, I could tell she was laboring to stay alive. Having never faced this before, I was lost. Most vet sites didn't list end-of-life care, 24/7 emergency clinics had awful reviews, and house-call vets were booked a week out. Finding HONOR PET was a godsend. Their website guides you step-by-step through end-of-life options, costs, and exactly what happens during the final moments so you can prepare yourself as best you can. You have two options: you can choose to have the procedure done at HONOR PET's Comfort Center or you can schedule an in-home option where the vet will come to your house. There's one more option: if your fur baby died and you don't need euthanasia services you can use HONOR PET for the Water Cremation option. Parking is available, but it's a little confusing to get to because there aren't any signs that indicate where it is. There's a map on the website, so as you turn into the driveway, any empty space against the building is available to park in. Don't park in any space that has a sign saying "reserved for" and don't pull into that little area that is set apart by a fence. You can read about my experience or you can stop here. All the pertinent info is listed above. I chose their DTLA center, where they take you straight to a private, home-like room with couches, pillows, desk, all the things you'd find in a house. This way your pet isn't stressed out by being in a sterile and unwelcoming environment in a vet's waiting area, surrounded by other animals. The room had a home vibe (pictures of the rooms are on their website) and felt welcoming and --strangely enough-- cheerful. I took Monju out of her travel crate and sat on the couch holding her on my lap, while scratching her head and neck, and talking to her. She laid there resting, opening her eyes to look around every now and again. The vet came in, I think her name was Dr. Claire, but I wasn't focused mentally that day to remember, but she was great. She had a calm demeanor, showed compassion and empathy, and made the dire circumstance seem not as dark, at the same time never downplaying the seriousness of why we were there. She went over the procedures step-by-step and explained other things that might happen to prepare me and to make sure if I had any concerns or questions I could raise them. Dr. Claire (I hope that's her name) gave Monju the sedative in an injection. Almost immediately after the sedative was in her system, I felt the tension leave her body as she relaxed, drifting into a deep sleep. She even started snoring. After about 10 or 20 minutes, maybe sooner, making sure that Monju was in that deep relaxed state, the Dr. started an IV that delivered the cocktail, taking her to the other side. She passed away quietly and peacefully in my arms without gasping or convulsing. In fact, I didn't even realize that she passed until the Dr. checked her heart and confirmed it. Dr. Claire was incredibly compassionate and told me that she needed to put Monju in a blanket and arrange her body before rigor mortis sets in. She added that Monju will be handed back to me and I could stay up to an hour to continue saying goodbye. But I didn't want to stay since Monju's soul/spirit was gone. Honor Pet was doing the cremation and after you have said your final goodbye, the Dr. takes him/her and that's when they prepare for the cremation. You don't get the remains back the same day, it takes about a week or so, if you choose the option that has the ashes come back to you. The other option is to have their remains cremated and the ashes will be added to other pets and then scattered or buried. I read on the site that if you have a different idea of cremation or how you want to handle the body, you have the choice of taking your furry child somewhere else. BTW, Honor Pet only offers the Water Cremation as an option for cremation. When I was handing my baby over for the last time it broke my heart and I almost lost it. In that split second, I felt the overpowering need to let out a primal scream and break into that ugly cry. Somehow, I didn't and as fast as that feeling hit me it was gone. I kissed Monju on the snout and handed her over to Dr. Claire, who lovingly wrapped her up in a blanket and took her body away. On my way out the staff continued to offer their condolences, and I left with a mixture of sadness and relief knowing that Monju was peacefully at rest. I'm not sure what I would've done without the support and compassionate care that I got from Dr. Claire and the wonderful staff at HONOR PET. Thank goodness a place like this exists.

A Peaceful Goodbye for My Sweet Bear…read more There are truly no words to fully express how grateful I am for the care and compassion my family and I received from Honor Pet Comfort Center during one of the most difficult days of my life. I brought my sweet Bear in after 12 beautiful years together, knowing that it was time to help him peacefully transition after his health had declined. From the moment we arrived, everyone was incredibly kind, gentle and nurturing. They understood the weight of what I was walking into and treated both Bear and me with so much tenderness. Dr. Wammock was absolutely incredible. From the moment she entered our private room, there was something so calming about her presence. She spoke softly, explained what was happening, and handled Bear with such gentleness and dignity. Every single thing she did felt intentional and compassionate. When she administered his sedative, she was incredibly tender with him, knowing how much discomfort and distress he had already experienced. She then gave us uninterrupted time to hold him, cuddle him, love on him and say our goodbyes before the final injection. When that moment came, she was just as careful. She even covered Bear so that our final memory of him would not be watching him receive a needle. That small gesture meant more to me than I can adequately put into words. Dr. Scott was also phenomenal and showed our family so much compassion throughout the experience. I will forever be grateful to both of them for the dignity, patience and love they showed Bear in his final moments. Of course, saying goodbye to him was heartbreaking. But somehow, in the middle of all that sadness, Honor Pet created an experience that was also incredibly peaceful and filled with love. I walked away devastated that my baby was gone, but also calm and reassured that I had made the right decision for him and chosen the right people to help me through it. Bear was loved beyond words, and knowing that he was treated with that same level of tenderness at the very end means everything to me. He is now in their care while I wait for his ashes to come home, and I feel completely at peace knowing that he is in good hands. Thank you to Dr. Wammock, Dr. Scott, and the entire Honor Pet team for giving my Bear the gentle, dignified goodbye he deserved. During one of the darkest moments of my life, you gave my family comfort, peace and even moments of joy as we celebrated the beautiful 12 years we were blessed to have with him. A year ago, we had to say goodbye to our boy Milo. He was my soul dog. The morning of, Milo's illness exacerbated & we woke up scrambling trying to call different services that could come to our home & help us with Milo. When my husband found Saving Grace, the one on the phone was incredibly accommodating. We were panicking trying to organize as much time with Milo before we had to say goodbye & they were so flexible & understanding. When Dr. Grace & Steven arrived, they gave us space to speak our last words to Milo. They told us to take the time we needed & were incredibly supportive as they walked us through the process. This day felt like a blur & we were flooded with emotions. I couldn't really think clearly. I am so grateful that Dr. Grace encouraged me to keep some of Milo's fur because I didn't realize how much I would treasure that. Dr. Grace & Steven even took the time to help us imprint Milo's paw onto a cloth so we could have more memories of him. They took an incredibly overwhelming day & made it go so smoothly. I adopted Milo from the shelter & he would get so anxious about going to the vet. Having them come to our home allowed Milo to breathe his last breath in his favorite place in the world--the safety of his home. It was painful to type it before, but now on Milo's death anniversary, we want to honor Saving Grace for the support they gave us. They also work alongside a pet cremation service. In two weeks, they brought Milo's ashes back to us in a beautiful small box. I requested a tear drop necklace with his ashes in it. Since this is another service, we did pay extra for this. But we got Forget Me Not Seeds, a card, & a beautiful clay imprint of Milo's paw with no charge. We had friends say that the clay imprint was done so beautifully. Our friends told us that a different service provider from another state had them pay extra & messed up the imprint. After hearing their experience, we are so grateful we found Saving Grace & worked with the cremation services that work with them. We can't thank you enough for giving us the most treasured goodbye.

Unlike our previous experience where we were able to book ahead of time and plan for our pup's passing, this was a circumstance where our baby needed immediate services -- his body was failing. Once I saw our senior 13-yr old pup was telling me it was okay, I called Dr. Gonzalez at 7pm. She was at our home by 10pm. Our pup had been sick for several years, and in that last week, our primary vet had already told us his health was declining, so we at least knew the end was near. And I had already mentally prepared to be strong and let him go when he needed to -- so I had Dr. Gonzalez's number on hand. We live in an apartment building, so we reserved a spot for her in our lot as close as possible to an exit. She came upstairs to our home, and she had brought all her equipment. I had already imagined how I wanted this experience to go for my once in a lifetime soul pup. I sat on his favorite place on the sofa, and I had him in my lap. Dr. Gonzalez gave me a pee pad to wrap around him within the blanket understanding there could be an accident in the process as his body released his spirit. I had a candle lit. I had soft music playing. We had low lighting on to honor what was about to happen. Dr. Gonzalez was also super accommodating to our 2nd puppy who was curious about her and wondering what was happening to his big brother. She didn't shoo him away -- she invited us to keep the puppy around so he can know his big brother was about to pass on. She gave us time to speak to Nuxx, love on him, and then let him go. Then, it finally happened. And Dr. Gonzalez stepped out of our apartment for awhile, giving our little family time to grieve, sob, and hold our baby close. Our puppy sniffed him too and said his goodbyes. Then she came back, and she asked us if we wanted to be the ones to carry him out or she was happy to do so. My husband carried him, myself and our puppy followed along -- felt like a procession down our apartment hallway. We got to Dr. Gonzalez's car, and we gently placed our baby's body in her car, and said our goodbyes again. Then...it was done. Throughout the experience, Dr. Gonzalez was so incredibly supportive, gentle, understanding, and patient. What else can you ask for when such a heartbreaking thing is occurring? When a spirit is literally fading in your arms? I am still not over losing him, but at least I know we gave him the most peaceful send-off we could: in his own home, in our arms, surrounded by so much love. If / when we need to go through again, I will continue to call on Dr. Gonzalez. RIP Nuxx.

I had no idea what to do. I searched online and called Paws Cause around 3:30 a.m., expecting to leave a message. Stephen answered. He was calm, compassionate, and walked us through how he could help. We were still in shock, so I told him my family and I needed to talk it over and would call back later. He understood completely. A few minutes later, without us asking, he texted a short list of options -- including a couple of pet cremation companies and his recommendation. We used the company he suggested, and it was the right call. We needed more time to process everything, which is why we didn't use Paws Cause's own service that night.
