There once was a cat lady, who lived in...well, not a shoe. But she had so many foster kittens, she didn't know what to do! Seriously, I'm drowning in foster kittens over here and every single one is weaning or still young enough that they aren't eating kibble yet. So I'm going thru a LOT of canned kitten food. I typically shop at Meijer for my cat food and litter. But they don't always have much of my preferred kitten food in stock, if at all. I won a $10 Petsmart gift card from Indy Humane recently, and decided it was the perfect time to put it to use. We noticed as we walked in that they had an adoption event going on. Several dogs in cages lined the front of the store, as we were greeted by a Petsmart employee. We didn't make it more than a couple aisles in to the store before another employee asked if we needed any help finding anything. I discovered a brand of canned kitten food that Indy Humane had given us a lot of lately. While Indy Humane does supply us with food for our fosters, they are at the mercy of donations and sometimes what we receive is a mixture of different brands. That can cause upset tummies for our kittens and I rather avoid that smelly aftermath. So I do buy a lot of the canned food myself, and only take from them what I know will agree with my fosters. I noticed that Petsmart carried a brand that has worked well with my foster kittens, at a reasonable price. Even better, they offer a discount when you buy X-amount of cans. The number seems to vary with each brand. Since I'm going thru a lot lately, I grabbed 24 large cans. Our total came to $23 and some change, after taxes. Check out was pretty quick and our cashier was also friendly. The store appeared clean and nicely lit. So I have to say that partnered with the great price, we had a great experience! read more

Be cautious! Normally don't like to give bad reviews, but in this case it's for pet safety. The grooming service was disgusting. I brought my corgi in for the most basic bath and brush service. After three hours i hadn't heard anything, so i came in to see what was going on. They were dismissive and told me they skipped over my appointment for a bigger dog that wasn't comfy in the kennel. They also only trimmed one paws' nails and told me he was aggressive (maybe he was, but i've never seen him be that way) they cut into the quick of one of his nails that they did actually trim, so that maybe what they meant about him becoming aggressive. When i asked how much longer he'd be they just went and grabbed him (still damp after 3 hours,) and gave me the full bill with him, and without even giving me his collar back until i pointed it out. He was clearly scared and just started peeing when i got him. So who knows how long he just sat wet in a cage for the 3 hours, or what actually happened. The manager was understanding, but the grooming staff were outright incompetent, and unapologetic. He's been to groomers before and is always happy-go-lucky, but he was very stressed and scared after his only time here. Lesson learned for me to always check reviews. Do not take your dog to the groomers here, they are indifferent at best to your pet. read more

I've have mixed emotions about this stores employees. The times I have been in there no one greats you & no one ask if you need help. I had a friend adopt a reptile from the store who has multiple reptiles already. As they were going through the paperwork the lady is telling them how to care for it. Most of the information was incorrect but they just let her speak and do her job. My friend was stunned at some of the things this lady was saying. I really hope stores like these take the time to properly inform their employees because so many people adopt animals without researching and if he would've taken her advice who knows if this reptile would have lived. read more

The not good rating falls short of expressing my disappointment and care our dog received at his recent grooming. His testicles and anal area were trimmed so close he has bleeding razor burn. Other areas such as under his front legs was cut way too close, not to the length we selected. I called and spoke to the manager today and she apologized but was not overly concerned. I went to drop off my Shih Tzu at the grooming place, not even 30 minutes later they called me back and told me to pick up my dog because my dog was being "aggressive," my dog has never been aggressive with anyone. my dog is always around my toddler and around other people and has never been aggressive . They shaved his body and did not even finish or say sorry. I did not have to pay, which I would not have paid either way. I decided to take him to another grooming place called, "American groomers, "they said that he was being really good and was not aggressive at all, they said that my dog was licking them. Petsmart employees were being aggressive with my dog, but my dog would never be aggressive with anyone unless he is being abused. I found cut marks on his body. We went here to buy fish. We have experience with fish and fish tanks. The employee helping us didn't seem to understand that. She was incredibly rude and smelled heavily of weed. She wouldn't even let us buy any fish in the tanks so we just bought a beta and left. There were also numerous dead fish in almost every tank, and the tanks needed cleaned. Good first impression, we used to frequent another store down the road (mostly just because it was next door to Half Price Books) but it is gone and we wanted to get a bone and a toy for our mildly spoiled dog. This PetSmart has has a great selection of all things dog. Admittedly, it was a bit messy in some areas (like the toy section) but that was probably because shoppers were knocking stuff down and not putting stuff back, I am sure weekends are a busy time for them. They had a few clearance bins by the checkout lanes which is an awesome place to score some fun things for your pet on the cheap! ($4 larger stuffed animal, yay!) However, it was hard to browse at times when people were trying to get in the checkout lanes. They also have each holiday season a $6 stuffed animal where 10% is donated to an animal related charity. They had a big bin of their 2013 cat. It could easily be a toy for a kid but it has a squeaker inside and our dog isn't super destructive so we're giving it to her. This location also offers grooming and what appears to be a new animal hospital. We enjoyed browsing the large selection of treats and bones and will likely be back since most of the chain stores nearby do not offer the same selection. Too bad our dog gets way to excited around other dogs, otherwise we'd bring her to sniff around. read more

Employee in fish section spent quite a bit of time w me explaining what I would need to succeed (read: not kill) with the fish I was getting for my boys. He was very helpful and knowledgable. He and the cashier both also made sure I knew to hold onto my receipt in case I was not successful (read: killed) the little guys. He also took the time to make sure we got two male fish; I'm not looking to breed zillions of teeny fish. Also love that they have puppies for adoption from Rescue Farm!!! This is your normal PetSmart with the normal selection of toys and food and pet accessories that you'd expect. So why the five start review? The grooming staff, mostly! We've taken our pup in a number of times and each experience has been good. They've done a great job on anything from a simple nail trim to a bath and haircut. Our Leo is an English Shepherd (a breed closely related to Border Collies and Australian Shepherds, in case you're unfamiliar with them) and we wanted to make sure he would be groomed by someone who knows what they're doing with that type of dog. Luckily for us, Jamie has shepherd dogs herself and was there to take care of him the first time we came in. She did such a good job that we've specifically requested her every time since. We've also had John give our guy a grooming (Jamie wasn't available that day and recommended him instead) and he did a great job as well. We don't have a lot of experience with many of the others in the department, but they all seem competent and have been friendly when we've been by. So what else besides grooming is great about this store? They have good deals on pet food and litter (yes, we also have cats), they always seem to have some fun new toys on clearance, and the wide selection of most anything makes finding something to suit each of the pets easy. We're here about once a month for food and whatnot, and each time I've found the staff to all be friendly and efficient. I think even Leo doesn't mind coming here with us, especially because he usually ends up getting a treat at the register because, and I quote, he's "such a good boooooy!" read more

Took our dog Lucy to this Petsmart where we have gone multiple, multiple times before to have her nails clipped. She is a rescue dog but nonetheless is probably the gentlest pet we have ever had. We suspected something was wrong when Martha, a tall Hispanic lady put a slip leash over her neck and commenced to drag her back toward the grooming area. We informed Martha that simply calling the dog and walking with her would suffice and the two of them easily headed back to the grooming table Within five minutes, we heard yelping and "screaming" coming from the grooming area and recognized the sounds as that of Lucy. Looking through the grooming window we saw the dog standing complacent while each clip of the nail was accompanied by a piteous shriek followed by the application of yet more powder to stop the bleeding from nail beds that were cut way too short. In past visits to this grooming salon, there has never ever been any issues but this particular groomer who is new to us clearly had no business doing this. Worst, she appeared completely indifferent and unsympathetic to the dogs plight. The manager was called for and with the enthusiasm of a piece of white bread, apologized and offered to "look into it". As far as we're concerned. I brought my dog in to try and get her nails done. Last time we were there the staff was friendly and loving. They understood that she is a rescue dog and were great. This time though the whole staff acted like they didn't want to be there and when she started having her "freak out" moment instead of trying to calm her down they just gave up. They also told me to go to the doctor to get something to sedate her. She does fine as long as she knows she can trust you and you are loving towards her. I went in to sign up for puppy classes, I had a nice young lady assisting me and let me know which class I should sign up for, she indicated they had just added some classes due to the popularity so I confirmed with her that the day I picked was available, I was told yes, this was just added, I filled out my form and went to pay for the class, the cashier went to the managers office to verify the class was available and I was told no problem. Two days before the class was to start I received a message from the trainer telling me I do not know who helped you but that class is full, you are going to have to call me or the manager to set another date, no sorry we messed up, very rude to say the least. I called the manager the next morning and I was told another story, she said no he was calling everyone in the class because they had overbooked and he was asking people if someone could switch, again no apology for their overbooking, I was told in my message from the trainer that I had to switch, I was not asked if I could switch. May I recommend you mark classes as full or remove them from your schedule if they are not available, I will find another trainer that can hopefully book properly. read more
