Since I began my new job in Inman Square a couple months ago, my bookmarked list of breakfast and lunch stops has grown immensely around the Somerville and Cambridge area. Petsi Pies made my list by recommendation as I somehow missed seeing it on my daily drive by. I learned that the bakery has other locations right in the area, but this particular shop on Beacon Street does not make breakfast sandwiches. I came in for an egg and cheese bagel, but left with one of the most delicious blueberry muffins I've ever had. I also enjoyed a piece of spinach ricotta quiche that was very good also with a light flaky crust. The bakery offered a selection of 3 or 4 kinds of quiche to choose from. There is a variety of baked goods and coffee here at this location with a few seats to eat inside or take your treats to go. The woman who helped me on my visit was very sweet, friendly, and helpful. I love this location because it's convenient to stop at with plenty of parking nearby. This is definitely going to become one of my favorite stops along my commute. read more

I've had their strawberry rhubarb pie, vegan cherry pie, peach blackberry crumble, and vegan Blueberry. Are they all amazing? Yes. Perfect crust? Yes. Not incredibly sweet? Yes. It's a pie shop, and YES you can get a slice of pie, even though they don't make it very apparent when you walk in and see racks of full pies hanging out. We started with a couple of cupcakes. I got the red velvet which was pretty delicious and we took home a caramel apple pie that unfortunately spent too much time in the fridge before we got a chance to taste it. Having heard of this place for a while I decided to stop by on way to a friend's house in Somerville... It was on around 6 an hour before closing and the shelves looked pretty empty) always a good sign).... The person (should have noted down the name) as the service I got was superb (I would go back for the service no matter how the products tasted)... Being I first time customer I had plenty o f questions and she patiently and thoughtfully answered all of them... In the end I got a small Peach pie which she recommended as peaches were in season which had an amazing crust and fresh peaches, yum yum yum... Also had the banana bread with pecan streusel, being a fan of banana bread and always ordering it, having it at every place I go, I must say was extremely impressed by their version and will definitely recommend it tom everyone who ever goes there (But always leave a lice for me thanks).... For the third item it came down to walnut fudge brownie and apple walnut cake, both located tempting and she recommended them, both but advised for the apple walnut cake... again and amazing product and worth getting it each time... The 2 pies we ordered, in advance, for Thanksgiving, were nowhere to be found. After a 2 hour wait in the rain just to get in the store. They didn't seem to know whether orders were taken by date, by name or by phone number, but regardless, on Thanksgiving eve I'm left with no dessert. They didn't even take a phone number or name to try to make things right! The best they could do was tell me to come back 'later' (although they would not be answering the phone) and roll the dice as to whether they'd have anything. Absolutely terrible. My boyfriend has been to this shop TWICE now today and the first time he was told that there were no more Pecan pies. I ordered a Pecan pie, a Pumpkin pie, and an Apple pie on November 9. My boyfriend showed up around 11am. He was told there we no Pecan pies. How is that possible? I preordered my pies TWO WEEKS ago. I reserved that order with my debit card. These were desserts for my family for Thanksgiving. How is it that you don't have enough pies for the amount of orders taken? No where in the email that was sent to me does it state "SUBJECT TO AVAILABILITY." If 500 people preorder pies, you make 500 pies. If you cannot make 500 pies, you limit the amount of orders to what you can do. You then told my boyfriend to come back in an hour and you would have the Pecan pie ready. He came back, waited again in a very long line, and once again was told there are no pumpkin or pecan pies. Again, how do you take a preorder for a pie and then not have them? What am I supposed to do now? I don't have time to go running around looking for pies the day before Thanksgiving! I now have NO PIES for Thanksgiving. This is absolutely unacceptable. I will never order from your business again. Think twice before pre-odering from here on a holiday! They probably won't have your order when you go to pick up! read more

For what they do, there is simply no better choice. One of my favorites is the berry pie. These are usually over sweetened. Here you can taste the fruit. The Mississippi mud pies are a chocoholics dream. When I visit Boston (from NY) I place large orders for freezing over the coming months. Worth the trip! read more

Petsi is a little hit or miss, but the mini pies make a great choice for potlucks or celebrations where you want to try a bunch of flavors. I didn't love the strawberry rhubarb oat crumb pie as I felt the topping was too sweet and I wished there was double the amount of filling. The chocolate bourbon pecan pie on the other hand is to die for! The small is basically 3-4 servings between it is so rich and almost like brownie batter. read more

We have always loved everything we've gotten from here - but bought a cherry pie for Father's Day and it was so tart it was inedible. I generally use as little sugar as possible in everything I make myself, but these were tart cherries and you needed something to compensate - again, I like tart but this was as tart as a rhubarb pie w/no sweetener. Also, to add to this issue, I reviewed this same experience on their own review system (sent w/their e-receipt via email), it's been over a month with no feedback from the business. What's the point of a review system if nobody reads/responds to them? Finally, these pies are a premium and I'm assuming that they must pay their employees a living wage? I know, nothing but the best/finest ingredients, but you are making really really good money here - somewhere - as you've opened up additional businesses all over the place. That said, when you pay via credit card, the sign off page defaults to a 20% tip (that's presumptuous in my opinion). I'm sorry, but if I'm paying for a $30 pie and all the person does is carry the pie from the back and put it in a box, I'm not going to give you a $6 tip. Twice now, I've dropped $2 in the tip jar and I don't even get a thank you or a smile from whomever is working there (just getting the sense that I'm cheap). I'm far from cheap, and always tip well regardless of how bad service is - but the key term is "service". I refuse to give that big a tip for a $30 pie that took 30 seconds to put into a box. Best pies I've tried in Cambridge and Somerville! Always fresh and every bite makes you feel like home. Ive tried pies from a lot of places but pies from Petsi are the best. You can buy entire pies to go or by slice and they have different sizes. They have other pastries and a couple of sandwiches to choose too. Coffee it's good too. It would be great if they could figure out a way for people who preordered a pie/s to pick up without having to wait in line for over a 40 minutes in the cold. Maybe there could be 2 lines. Since only one customer is allowed in the store perhaps an employee or two could be outside and service the "express line" of preorders by asking them their names, what they ordered and having them pay if necessary (maybe make them pay when they preorder if you don't want to use the mobile payment devices) and then bring the pie/s out to them. Drawing a little circle on a piece of paper did not seem to improve efficiency. read more

First visit was fine, I went there for the first time and got a 5' apple pie which was delicious. So I decided to get pies for a party, and picked out 8' mississippi mud pie and 10' apple pie. The mud pie was dry, and broke the plastic forks. And for the 'apple' pie, which turned out to be a strawberry rhubarb pie, was alright, but I paid $28 for an APPLE pie. Their Mocha is incredible! They use an amazing rich chocolaty, spiced "hot chocolate" base and then add the espresso. It is beyond decadent but we keep coming back for more. No other mochas compare. Sometimes they run out of the hot chocolate base - if they offer to make it with ganache, just say no, because it's not even close to as good. read more

We ordered cupcakes and pies (coconut cream and lemon meringue) for our wedding recently. We wanted to order a small pie to put on top of our cupcake tower to cut in lieu of a "cake-cutting" and the person we worked with (Jill) said that the small pie would be complimentary, which was very nice of her. However, when our pies and cupcakes arrived, the pies were all crushed and the small pie wasn't delivered at all. Our caterer just cut the pies and served them in little cups and we had no cake cutting. Petsi Pies was cooperative when we contacted them after the wedding and refunded us for the pies. But there were other issues about their behavior that were frustrating and disappointing. The caterer told us that when the pies arrived all crushed, he called Petsi Pies and the person there told him that we had been informed prior that the pies might not deliver well. That was NOT true at all. We would certainly not have taken that chance, especially since the pies were going to be served at our wedding! I contacted Jill after learning of this (by that time, she had refunded the cost of the pies) and she did not respond to my email. Fine, we got a refund for the pies. But she didn't acknowledge the fact that they didn't even bother sending the small pie that we had ordered! The cake-cutting ceremony is a big part of a wedding and we couldn't do it because of this situation. And having to deal with crushed pies at my own wedding was stressful to say the least. To top it all of, the sad thing is that we actually paid for the delivery and handling! I feel as if that money should have been refunded as well. I am only giving them two stars since the pies and cupcakes tasted good. But their behavior was simply unprofessional and obnoxious. read more

Had heard so much of this place on Phantom Gourmet and Chronicle. Had dinner guests from this area and asked them to pick up an apple pie. The cost $25! The crust was very hard and thick. The applies were overcooked and almost into apple sauce! What a huge disappointment! I wrote them directly to avoid doing an online review but they never got back to me. Petsi Pies is an absolute gem- one of the best neighborhood pie stores in the Greater Boston Area! While the coffee isn't the specialty here, the pie and countless other pastries are fantastic. The Mississippi Mud Pie at Petsi is probably one of the most decadent, rich, and delicious pies I've ever tried. The service is friendly and passionate about what it does. For those of you who don't know, my mom is kind of a big deal. She is at the top of her field, raised two awesome kids, and recently summited Kilimanjaro. Once she puts her mind to something, she masters it. About 20 years ago, she mastered the apple pie. Her apple pie is amazing. The crust, the apple slice size, the seasoning, everything is perfect. Not too soggy on the bottom, not to dry on the top. My family doesn't order apple pies when we are out or buy them at the store, since everything else is just subpar. Cut to Sunday, when I stopped by Petsi Pies to pick up something to bring to a SuperBowl party. I wasn't in a berry mood, so apple it was! I knew the hosts were making chili and thought apple pie might be a good complement. But then we left early (bed time for baby!), and my friend insisted that I take the pie too. We didn't touch it Sunday, since we literally collapsed in piles of gluttony. On Monday, however, there was nothing in the house for lunch... pie it is! Imagine my surprise when I took a bite and it tasted EXACTLY like my mom's. Sharp flavors, perfect crust, lots of filling. Then I had another piece, and another...and... umm... I refuse to tell the internet exactly how much of that pie is left... I also got some small savory pies. I liked them, but they weren't Flour's quiche so I probably won't get them again. As a regular Phantom Gourmet viewer, I was excited to try Petsi's Pie. This Sunday provided the perfect opportunity, but when we arrived, it was closed... But, we were pleasantly surprised when the owner herself unlocked to door and asked us if she could help us out. Did she ever, we decided on an Apple Crumb pie, and boy it was delicious! The pie was overstuffed with crispy juicy cinnamon apples and topped with a tasty crumble, and this description certainly doesn't do it justice. Hands down best in town, possibly in the city. If you haven't tried Petsi's and you're looking for great baked goods, I highly recommend you stop by - you'd be silly not too... awesome pies, and even better customer service....While I only tried the Apple Crumb, I can only imagine her other creations are just as fabulous. The best pies ever. I've had several pies over time. All were perfect. I've had both savory and sweet. The lemon meringue pie was tall with fluffy meringue and the lemon had a lovely lemon flavor with no fake chemical taste. Perfectly sweet but not too sweet. The apple pie was perfectly sweetened not mushy at all and the crust on all the pies is perfect. And I had a pecan sweet potato pie that was a huge success. My guests said it was the best pie ever. I agree. The savory pies are crispy and good. Savory pies are not quiche so no eggs but nice cheese and vegetables. Savory is nice but the sweet pies are to die for. A few years ago I lived in a perennially under-construction house on Miller St. The only things that preserved my sanity were the huge, delicious scones from Petsi Pies. The owner is super friendly- it's always like walking in to your wacky aunt's house when you go in. There's frankly not a whole lot happening in that neighborhood, so the coffee and pies are very much appreciated by the locals.
