IF I COULD GIVE YOU A NEGATIVE STAR I WOULD, DISRESPTING OUR VETERANS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE EVER!…read moreSo let me tell you of my Aberdeen Wa. adventure this afternoon. We had a meeting in Aberdeen and decided to stop at Petsence to pick up a few things, did it, went back to our car and had time to kill, as we sat there my husband (also a disabled veteran) noticed a couple at the end of the building who he had seen earlier today in our town of Elma (about 20 minutes away) , he told me this guy is a vet, I am going to talk to him while I stayed in the car smoking (don't judge). A good 5 minutes or so and my husband came back to the car and started telling me their story, guy was a homeless disabled vet, he and his girlfriend have been traveling across America trying to get to Alaska to homestead, they were taking a break from the rain feeding their dog and taking the backpack loads off for a few before trying to make it to Westport in hopes of catching a fishing vessel to Alaska. They never asked my husband for anything, there weren't causing trouble, they were merely taking a break out of the rain. My hubby and I both decided to help with a couple of bucks and a pack of cigs, THEY DID NOT ASK US, we just wanted to give a little bit back to another vet., not the first time and it won't be the last, because you see, we have also been to THAT place, that place where your about as low as you can go, we had good people who helped us for no reason other than they are good people and we try to pay it forward when possible. When we help the only thing we ever ask is that when you can, when you see another vet struggling, YOU PAY IT FORWARD also, because sometimes that's all we got, each other. Now, my husband walked back over and they tried to refuse our help, but my husband persisted, I am still in the car and see the hugs start, the look on the faces, that is all the satisfaction I will ever need. THEN ALL HELL BREAKS LOOSE....The, I assume, manager of Petsense came over and told them they had 10 minutes to leave NO solicitors, my husband explained calmly that was not the situation, that this is a disabled veteran that was merely taking a break from the rain as they traveled through Aberdeen, she got more aggressive and loud and then that's when I jumped out of the car. I also tried explaining to her the situation, and told her they were doing absolutely nothing, but all she could say was "that's corporate, not me", I retorted "well your here and we are telling you that is not the situation and this is a disabled veteran, SHAME ON YOU" and few cuss words for frustration and the absolute absurdity of a situation that should not be happening, I grabbed the guy and hugged him and said THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE and turned back to her and repeated SHAME ON YOU several times as she retreated to her "safe space" inside the store and because I cussed at her she said she was calling the cops. Good do it I said, your disrespecting a veteran and I am not going to let you do that! Then we told the couple get your things in our car, we're taking you to Westport which we did. On the way back home we stopped in Aberdeen McDonalds which just happens to be pretty close to Petsense, and ate in the car since we were listening to the Savage Nation. Well low and behold here comes the Aberdeen PD by, then they turned around and parked by us, my husband chuckled "oh, I guess were going to get a talking to" AND that's what happened, police woman was very nice but after we told her what happened she tells me the store lady said their were knives being brandished WTF!!!!!! I said that is NOT true there was nothing like that going on, except my wicked potty mouth which can be pretty cutting sometimes, and my husband being my husband said "why would I brandish a knife when I carry a gun?" lol, classic W.W. So, she lied, I don't know why other than maybe once she got to calling the cops she felt like a DICK and had to make it sound better for her, maybe it was the woman in the next car who offered to buy the couple dog food and said thank you to us before we left with them, maybe it was the people who were listening to the whole thing and weren't too happy that Petsense was treating a vet like this, one we just happened to know. #Petsense this is a small county, though I am a bit of a hermit, my husband is well known all over WA., You can bet this story will be told to all his veteran buddies, and maybe some veterans on FB might share this too, #BoycottPetsense Oh, and Thanks #Petsense, being banned from your store was on my bucket list, didn't think I would fit that in at 58 since we liked to shop there every month. Oh and the PD, well they said the couple had every right to be there, since they were OUTSIDE of your building and not doing anyone any harm, maybe you should inform corporate about that one, you know public sidewalk and all.

Aberdeen seems to have a stray cat problem so if you're looking to adopt a cat with up to date vaccinations that has been spayed/ neutered this is where you want to go. Be honest and up front about what you're looking for in a cat (big difference between a barn cat and a family cat) and they'll help you find the right one for you.

PAWS of Grays Harbor has been around a long time, serving a very broad area. I have always admired…read morehow much a few volunteers achieve in a no-kill shelter in an old, old house. This is a depressed area with a lot of need but don't let that keep you away from adopting and volunteering yourself. The veterinary care when we adopted our two separate adult kitties in the past 3 years was very good. Animals were well-socialized and exercised--yes, even the cats. Our sweet Harry had been there for nearly a year (or more), formerly named Sonic. He was about 3 years old. This shelter doesn't put down their oldest and most unadoptable cats. There were some extremely aged cats (and probably dogs too), particularly a sweet lil Manx who was able to roam freely. It felt good to take Harry home and open up his world--but he would have had no world to enjoy at all at some shelters. A previous adoption at PAWS of GH was of a teen mommy who had been caring for her babies under a trailer. Just a slip of a thing but healthy, she was super ready to finally have her own childhood in our home. They have both been a joy and comfort--and got along like best friends immediately. Though the animals were not chipped by the shelter, regular veterinary exams were done, immunizations and flea treatments were done properly and there was an exit visit, flea treatment and claw clipping with the vet tech before we signed the papers and left with our new family members. There was also a built-in trial period. The facility is old but clean. Anything anybody could do to help, I'm sure, would be of high value. We will come back to adopt one day, but hopefully not too soon. Thank you, PAWS of Grays Harbor!
