Stopped in late on a Friday, 8:30. Seated right away, we ordered an appetizer, Curry Puffs, it came in about 3 minutes!!! Nice light appetizer. He ordered Honey Roasted Duck Salad. It came with a light sauce, shredded cabbage, and perfectly lightly steamed broccoli. Beautiful presentation. I ordered the shrimp and pork dumpling in a hot clay pot. She said it would still be boiling at the table, it was. Nice thick lightly seasoned broth, 5 large dumplings with cauliflower and cut up baby corns. My dish was still really hot when I finished eating. Plenty to take home for lunch on Monday. Another great meal at Pete's. In Dubuque visiting family. I'm from Austin, TX and am used to dining out in great restaurants. Drove by & stopped on a whim. So glad I did! Absolutely amazing curry shrimp & rice noodles! The shrimp were huge, and soup is loaded with flavor! Veggies cooked to tender but not overcooked. The service was great! I did not have to wait long to be seated or for my lunch to be served, Generous portion served at the perfect temperature. I love the decor! Artwork painted on original brick walls definitely a plus! Pete's is one of our favorite places in Dubuque. We stopped on a Sunday evening and unfortunately left disappointed. The wait staff did great in a very busy restaurant and we were patient. The appetizer (made by the waitress) was good along with the chicken satay. The main course was Bha Mee Patt served hot but was so over sauced and salty the noodles couldn't be eaten. Only the chicken and shrimp were edible and the shrimp tasted old. The waitress seemed uninterested as to why it was not good, maybe she made that also...? Only acknowledged that I said "it's been better" The Pad Thai was better but not the quality we are accustomed to here. The mango and sticky rice was good as always. This was a disappointing visit to a fave. It will be a while before I go back, there's nothing worse than paying for disappointment. I really, really liked it here, sad. read more

Went in on a Thursday night and a couple in front of us (family of 4) was sat at a table within 3-5 minutes upon entry. We were waiting in line for 5-8 minutes without a word spoken to us. Not hello, we'll be with you in a moment, literally nothing. Staff made zero eye contact towards us. We try to shrug it off and grab some menus to familiarize ourselves, and to have our order ready when they were ready. Wait another 2 mins I look to my husband and quietly and jokingly ask him if we were wearing our invisibility cloaks today. This is when I saw the manager on duty come back from the kitchen (obviously scarfing some food) --I get it. It's 6:30/7. But this is her second or third appearance and she knows no one has acknowledged us at this point. Walked out fuming but not wanting to make a scene in front of my kids, my husband helped me put the kids in the car and then went back in, asked for the manager *no response* asks again more loudly, sheepishly, the manager said she was on duty and still refused to make eye contact. He *as politely possible* informs her that she will be hearing about this from superiors. My favorite part about this entire experience is that we were wanting our order to-go. So if they were concerned about seating us it would not have been a problem. I've never experienced this level of disrespect in a restaurant ever. We found this place by a search on yelp. It was everything previous reviews promised and more. I highly recommend the chicken satay appetizer. I had the happi habachi chicken and shrimp, photo included. We had the fried banana desert, and it was good, but heavily breaded. Overall this was an A+ meal. read more

We also were pestered by *a lot* of flies while sitting outside so a bug zapper might be a good investment during covid times when folks want to sit outside. Pete's Thai kitchen opened this week. Currently they are doing a soft opening with reservations and walk-ins after a certain time. I would suggest calling ahead to either make a reservation or find what time they are accepting walk-ins. They serve both lunch and dinner. They also have a bar and serve alcohol. Pete remodeled the building marvelously. The restaurant feels spacious and welcoming. Pete even put thought into putting hooks under the tables to hang purses. Great idea! The menu is full and well-developed. There is something for everybody. On our first trip, we ordered Curry Puffs, Cucumber Salad, Pad Thai, Spicy Wok Noodles, Thai Peanut Stir-Fry, and Thai Iced Tea. All of us were pleased with the food. Generous portions, exceptional taste, and beautiful presentation. Our waitress even brought out a spice tray with four different sauces and spices so we could adjust the spice in our dishes. Hats off to the chef and the staff. The staff was extremely welcoming and dedicated. We accidentally left a phone in the booth when we left and the staff literally chased us down to give it back to us. I cannot recommend Pete's Thai Kitchen enough. This is a wonderful addition to our North End and to Dubuque's restaurant scene. Easily the best Thai food in the area. read more

The location and food are good. The staff is very friendly but frustrated. I know it has only been open a few weeks but while I was sitting waiting for my delicious lunch, I heard at least 20 times the staff apologizing to everyone. I saw several people leave as my waitress told them it was going to be a long time. If the staff would not constantly apologize it would have been more enjoyable. They are creating a sense of unease. I think the real problem is in the kitchen. Evidently Pete has been in the restaurant business for a while and he puts out a mean pad thai but he needs a rock solid staff in the kitchen to make it work. I gave 4 stars only because the frustrations of the staff rubbed off on me. By the way, my food came out in about 5 minutes and was fabulous! I'm sure I will change my rating to 5 stars on my next visit if Pete can get it going in the kitchen. read more

I was in town for a quick weekend trip and I am so glad we stopped at Pete's Thai Kitchen. This new restaurant is definitely a wonderful addition to Dubuque. It is beautifully decorated in a way that is inviting, cozy and authentic. And the food -- best Thai I've had. Period. The Yum Beef Salad was fresh and bright --definitely not overpowering -- and the Panang Curry was the perfect amount of heat. Try it with the garlic rice (great depth of roasted garlic). This was my second time eating inside the restaurant. The food was very marginal and some of it was barely warm. Our server with the red hair needs to take lessons from the other servers. She acted very uninterested and didn't bother explaining the menu, offer refills or give us a bag for 3 items we took to go. We also had to go up and pay. I asked for the Thai basil chicken and rice noodles (extra charge) on the side. I was so excited to receive my food. Came home, opened the box and dug in. The was barely any chicken and about 2 basil leaves. The whole thing was not flavorful and tasted like it had been cooked days ago and reheated today. The chicken had that freezer-like taste to it. Now I understand that we're currently facing hard times but if you're going to charge almost $15 for an entrée, I'm at least going to be expecting fresh food with some taste to it. The portion was generous but I ended up only being able to palate the bit of the dish that I poured chili paste over to takeaway the "unfreshness."
