Great food. Might be not be 100% authentic since they couldn't tell me what herbs were in the dish, but pretty close. Great atmosphere. Good service.

This place makes DELICIOUS Thai food. We weren't sure at first because of the name "Pete's Thai" -- but the first bite of our duck curry put every doubt to rest. The spicy wok noodles were also a hit. We will certainly be back when we are back in the area.

I would actually give this place closer 2.5 stars. We decided to try this place out during our visit to Dubuque, Iowa. This restaurant came up several times in our search, and had plenty of good reviews, so we decided to give it a try. The decor was very inviting, and had a cool hipster vibe with Thai influence sprinkled throughout. Service was adequate, but friendly. We ordered the Tom Yum Soup with chicken, Thai Basil stir fry with pork (Pad Kra Pao), and the Spicy Wok Noodles with tofu. Overall, their food was disappointingly subpar. Flavors were very one note and lacked any complexity. As in Thai cuisine, we were expecting bold, aromatic, and spicy flavors, but their dishes fell flat, dare I say, bland. The food tasted like they toned down the spice and flavor level too much in order to cater to the mass middle American palate. The stir fry's pork was beyond dry (meat was too lean and overcooked), didn't have enough basil, and it was way over sauced. Not only was there a pool of sauce sitting at the bottom of the plate, the sauce tasted mostly of soy sauce and nothing else. The soup lacked any lemon grass flavor and there was an egregious amount of onions and green onions thrown in. Finally, the noodles...I had a bone to pick with the noodles. First of all, no spicy-ness whatsoever. Second of all, the cook's knife skills were lazy at best because the chunks of vegetables were huge. Third, they did not know how to stir fry flat rice noodles. When done properly they should not break. The noodles were broken and came in small pieces which indicated an inexperienced cook. Fourth, the noodles' sauce tasted slightly burnt because it was over caramelized. Our meal was so underwhelming we didn't even finish it and didn't even bother requesting take-out boxes to bring our leftovers home. I would say what we experienced was a very bland Americanized version of Thai inspired cuisine. There are much better restaurants elsewhere. I don't think we will be returning to this establishment.

Ok Pete's Thai! Pete's Thai??? Yes that is the name and it matches the neighborhood it is in. Im driving to find it and its just in an old neighborhood off downtown by a church. Anyhow go to Pete's. I have not quite figures out what is all infused in this place. I had the Spicy Wok Noodle. It was all fresh and fantastic. Flat rice noodles, chili garlic, onion, egg, carrots, and other yummy stuff. It is only Iowa spicy so if you want more spice just ask they will give you more spice to add. Try the crab rangoons while here too. You will not be disappointed! Oh and thank you Colleen for some great service and suggestions!! Warning! I will be back!

Nice ambience & friendly staff. Their menu is vegan/vegetarian friendly. We ordered : Fried sweet potatoes - Average , lacked seasoning and was super oily. Pineapple Fried Rice - Good Spicy Wok Noodles - very good if you like spicy food. Not for everybody though. Thai mule & Thai iced tea - decent Pineapple fried rice (on a sweeter side) with the spicy noodles made a good combination. The portion size was good. Would love to try their other offerings.

The food was good. Me and my brother found this place while really hungry and it didn't disappoint. He got the pad Thai which he liked and I went with the pad see eew. Missing a star because of the peanut sauce for the fresh rolls, it wasn't consistent with what most Thai spots serve, it should be thicker.

The food was incredibly tasty, and the flavorful curry and stir fry we tried contained a good amount of vegetables. We plan on returning.

Dark, humid interior.....sat in 3 different booths all had seats with zero support. Felt like small child needing a booster chair to get to the table. Bunched up jacket to sit on. Dumpling appetizer ok. Ordered my favorite soup in the world....Tom Yum. I was embarrassed for the kitchen. First filled so full waiter struggled to set down. Horrible and someone decided sugar would be a great idea. Awful.....fished out the 3 shrimp that I paid $2 extra for and sent soup back. No galangal, no ginger, no lemongrass. It was some sweet gross concoction. Later the waiter told me he tasted some and thought it tasted like 'tomato water'. It sucked. I then ordered a green curry and friend with me ordered a yellow curry. She on 1st taste......too much salt. I had asked for a #3 medium spice. They dumped some old chili pepper flakes on top of the food in the middle of the dish. Super amateur cooking move. Instead of cooking the heat into each dish. The sauce was a quick coconut milk mixed with different curry pastes and then extra salt dumped on it. Just give it pass, like I said: the worst excuse for Thai food I've ever experienced. Save your money....keep driving!

The workers and owners here at Hot 'n Spicy are very friendly and the larb siin, thum mak hoong, siin savanh, sai oua (medium), combo crispy lard nar, and sesame balls are the bomb! The larb's bitter and sour, with the beef tasting tender and juicy, just like how I like it and how I make it. The thum has the same fishy, pungent taste that I love, with super fresh papaya and tomatoes. These were the two dishes I ordered when I first checked out this restaurant in April 2022, and both taste just like how I remembered them. The siin savanh's flavorful (with hints of fish sauce and soy sauce), crisp, and tender. The sai oua's super juicy and tender, with spices, and is of the sweet variety (not the sour variety). The jeow som that comes with it is super garlicky and fishy, with a slight hint of spice, just as I'd want it like and how I'd make it myself. The lard nar has crispy noodles that were just right in terms of crisp and flavor (you can feel the crispy while still tasting the flavor of the wide rice noodles) and the protein's also the right level of tenderness (not tough at all)! I think the sauce uses more soy sauce than I'd like, as it's a bit heavier than what I make and see at most other restaurants, but that's no big deal. The sesame balls are warm, the perfect level of chewy, and generously filled. The bean filling's so tasty. They also aren't oily in the slightest! The (regular) sticky rice, purple, is fresh and is a generous option for the price. I wish the food were spicier, as I used to order this same spice level (their spiciest level) years back and found myself sweating and having a runny nose. I hope I might be able to order spicier than their spiciest level next time! I ordered a lot and they were in the middle of a lunch rush during my visit, but all my dishes came at a reasonable time. Also, my waitress, Alyssa (not sure if I spelled her name correctly since I didn't ask her how she spells it), made sure to check on me and other tables every few minutes to see how we were doing! After my meal, I love how Alyssa gave me some stickers, just as I love how I got to speak a little bit with the kitchen staff (as they were less busy by the time I was leaving)! I found it funny how some of them thought I was Kevin, a family friend of theirs. It was this amazing combination of food and service, which reminded me of my family and simpler times, that was the reason this restaurant was my go-to restaurant when I was a law school student at UW-Madison years back (even though this restaurant was out of my way and there were so many other Lao/Southeast Asian restaurants closer to where I was living). My visits here back then helped more than I could ever describe with combating all the stress I had (because law school was so difficult) and the loneliness I had (because I had no luck making friends at the time). Sadly, they didn't have Thai iced tea during my visit, so that'll be a reason for me to come back! I'll have to get their pho next time, as that's also a dish I ordered years ago and loved! Btw, this restaurant will soon be moving from inside of Viet Hoa Market to Mishqui Peruvian Bistro (same plaza), which will allow them to have more tables/seating and more hours, so I'll definitely be back after they've moved!
