Came here on a trip to Galena/Dubuque and this place was excellent!! I got the hibachi tofu with no egg and I gotta be honest it was so damn good I ate the whole plate except for a few leftover grains of rice. The sauce was super flavorful and the veggies and tofu were cooked beautifully. Also, the server was really sweet, the decoration is cute, and everything was very clean. 10/10 definitely recommend this place if you find yourself in Dubuque and are looking for some reasonably priced and delicious vegan options! read more

I really wanted to love this place. The decor is bold and unique, the space is grand and there isn't great Thai food in the midwest but I was holding out hope. Basically, there isn't anything wrong with Pete's but there is something sort of missing in the final delivery. Keep pushing on and with a little more attention to detail, there is a great restaurant within reach. read more

I have got to say. I am honestly shocked at the bad and lack of service I got here. I brought my fiance and mother to this restaurant, we took a table and waited for someone to greet us and take our order... 10 minutes past and no word from anyone. The place was not busy at all, only maybe a 2 or 3 customers were in the building and the staff did see us come in, it is not like we were hidden, we were right up front. Yet, the staff behind the bar was not doing much at all. Did not even look at us, greet us or even acknowledged our presence. When my fiance asked if anyone is going to help us, the person behind the bar gave the most disgusting look to us and said "just a moment" in a very rude tone. At that moment, I gave them the privilege to not help us at all and left. It's places like Pete's I absolutely cannot support or tolerate. When your staff cannot even do the bare minimum of greeting your guests, I cannot tolerate that. I can honestly say I will NEVER be back here. In fact, I will be telling all of my friends and family to not even bother with this place. I had this place once, it was okay, but when the service I experienced was this horrific, it completely ruins my total respect for this establishment. I would actually give this place closer 2.5 stars. We decided to try this place out during our visit to Dubuque, Iowa. This restaurant came up several times in our search, and had plenty of good reviews, so we decided to give it a try. The decor was very inviting, and had a cool hipster vibe with Thai influence sprinkled throughout. Service was adequate, but friendly. We ordered the Tom Yum Soup with chicken, Thai Basil stir fry with pork (Pad Kra Pao), and the Spicy Wok Noodles with tofu. Overall, their food was disappointingly subpar. Flavors were very one note and lacked any complexity. As in Thai cuisine, we were expecting bold, aromatic, and spicy flavors, but their dishes fell flat, dare I say, bland. The food tasted like they toned down the spice and flavor level too much in order to cater to the mass middle American palate. The stir fry's pork was beyond dry (meat was too lean and overcooked), didn't have enough basil, and it was way over sauced. Not only was there a pool of sauce sitting at the bottom of the plate, the sauce tasted mostly of soy sauce and nothing else. The soup lacked any lemon grass flavor and there was an egregious amount of onions and green onions thrown in. Finally, the noodles...I had a bone to pick with the noodles. First of all, no spicy-ness whatsoever. Second of all, the cook's knife skills were lazy at best because the chunks of vegetables were huge. Third, they did not know how to stir fry flat rice noodles. When done properly they should not break. The noodles were broken and came in small pieces which indicated an inexperienced cook. Fourth, the noodles' sauce tasted slightly burnt because it was over caramelized. Our meal was so underwhelming we didn't even finish it and didn't even bother requesting take-out boxes to bring our leftovers home. I would say what we experienced was a very bland Americanized version of Thai inspired cuisine. There are much better restaurants elsewhere. I don't think we will be returning to this establishment. read more

Ok Pete's Thai! Pete's Thai??? Yes that is the name and it matches the neighborhood it is in. Im driving to find it and its just in an old neighborhood off downtown by a church. Anyhow go to Pete's. I have not quite figures out what is all infused in this place. I had the Spicy Wok Noodle. It was all fresh and fantastic. Flat rice noodles, chili garlic, onion, egg, carrots, and other yummy stuff. It is only Iowa spicy so if you want more spice just ask they will give you more spice to add. Try the crab rangoons while here too. You will not be disappointed! Oh and thank you Colleen for some great service and suggestions!! Warning! I will be back! read more

Pineapple Fried Rice - Good Spicy Wok Noodles - very good if you like spicy food. Not for everybody though. Thai mule & Thai iced tea - decent Pineapple fried rice (on a sweeter side) with the spicy noodles made a good combination. The portion size was good. Pete's Thai Kitchen came to us as a recommendation from the owner of The Calico Bean. Wow! Unbeknownst to us, we visited the restaurant on the second night they were officially open for business. Apparently a soft-opening happened the weekend prior, so we felt really special getting to check this place out while we were in town on our family vacation. Six of us arrived at about 7pm on Thursday night. Service was really good and everyone was attentive to us. Restaurant wasn't packed, but it was pretty full. They don't take reservations. Appetizers: Crispy Wings & Crab Rangoon Entrees: Thai Basil Stir Fry w/ Chicken, Sautéed Vegetable Stir Fry w/ Chicken, Tamarind Fish Stir Fry, Sautéed Vegetable Stir Fry w/ Shrimp, Traditional Pad Thai and a Curry w/ a side order of Cucumber Salad. We even tried the Sticky Rice w/ Mango for dessert. The Jasmine rice that was served with the Stir Fry was delicious. I ate my bowl, as well as my husband's. Everything was very fresh and tasty. The assortment of sauces that were placed on the table once our entrees arrived was a nice touch as well. We were really impressed with the overall atmosphere. I loved the purples and golds and all of the artwork in the restaurant. They kept the original ceiling of the building, which was also neat to see. The simple, but well executed decor is lovely. Even Pete's menus are awesome! Please tell me what kind of paper they're printed on...vellum? You won't find a cooler menu anywhere this side of the Mississippi. I highly recommend Pete's Thai Kitchen! Give this great new, local business a try. The family story about how they came to relocate to Dubuque is quite interesting. Such a delicious meal- from the Thai mule, the spring rolls and shrimp in a blanket to the desserts. The server was perfect. The day was beautiful for outdoor seating. The shrimp in a blanket with chili sauce was delightful. The yellow curry and pineapple fried rice were amazing. So flavorful! The ginger noodles were bland, but adding a little curry really spiced it up! For dessert we shared the mango rice pudding, the egg custard and sweet rice pudding and the fried bananas with ice cream. They were all great- but my favorite was the fried bananas. Scoop up some of that warm honey with a bite of banana and ice cream. Chefs kiss. We left with enough for another meal. 10/10 will eat here MANY more times. read more

We found this restaurant through a gluten free search. It was wonderfully painted with colorful murals. Service was excellent on a busy Friday night. When I asked for a gluten free menu, she brought me a regular menu with Xs on items containing gluten. I had a spicy shrimp salad that was very good. I was beyond thrilled to be in town for the soft opening of Pete's Thai, as the owners are family friends. Good Thai food is hard to come by, so the neuron of a new restaurant was exciting. At first, the location is a bit out of the way, but this will be a restaurant worth driving to. The interior decor and art are absolutely on point. The colors are inviting and cozy, and you'll want to sit and chat for hours. Service was great, and from what I could tell, things were running pretty smoothly for it being the 2nd night. The booths were packed with people and food was consuela coming out of the kitchen. The drinks were good, they even have Thai tea and coconut water! The menu was a bit overwhelming, but it the her way possible. They have soups, salads, stir fry, noodles, and curries. Plenty of mouth watering options that can be made vegetarian if you desire. I ordered the delicious Thai tea and the Tom Kha with shrimp, and it was the best Ive had in a long time. The soup was full and the portion was spot on. Stopped in late on a Friday, 8:30. Seated right away, we ordered an appetizer, Curry Puffs, it came in about 3 minutes!!! Nice light appetizer. He ordered Honey Roasted Duck Salad. It came with a light sauce, shredded cabbage, and perfectly lightly steamed broccoli. Beautiful presentation. I ordered the shrimp and pork dumpling in a hot clay pot. She said it would still be boiling at the table, it was. Nice thick lightly seasoned broth, 5 large dumplings with cauliflower and cut up baby corns. My dish was still really hot when I finished eating. Plenty to take home for lunch on Monday. Another great meal at Pete's.
