We called Fred and he suggested we drop in and charge up our battery before continuing on to Kennewick for a scheduled RV service appointment. Fred personally installed a new glass battery and we rigged up a connection from our generator to a trickle charger connected the new battery. After setting up a time to bring my car by, I showed up and he clearly explained the process and his pricing so there wouldn't be any surprises as to what I could expect. The guy was very honest and charged my AC right up to be ice cold again. He checked all of my tubes, lines, and parts than could relate to any coolant leaks and found nothing but said to bring it back if I have any issues. Overall, I had my car returned to me in just half a day and felt like the price he charged me was fair. He gave me an honest assessment of my compressor (likely one main reason behind my A/C issue at the age my car is at) and I feel great about coming back here if I ever need anything else.

I'm not sure if the gods of rental trucks and trailers have different days designated as the weekend and if they do I sure wish they'd share this with the rest of western civilization. Uhaul has this deal that if the trailer you rented isn't ready as promised then they'll give you 50 dollars. Well, I contacted Steve Womack and he credited my credit card 50 dollars. Not really the same as 50 bucks in my wallet but at least he got halfway there. My rather long drawn out point is, don't call uhaul on a Saturday morning to pickup the same day to move your father-in-law who just fell and expect this place to be open. You'll only end up cursing out some poor guy trying to make a living at the uhaul call center (probably in Omaha) demanding a refund. Glad his favorite chair fit in my rig.

Yes, that is exactly what happened to us on December 21, 2016, while driving from Boise, Idaho, to Spokane, WA. But even with this cloud of doom hanging over our car, a silver lining in the form of J & B Automotive, appeared. Our engine problem struck as we were traveling through Pendleton. As it was about 8:00 pm, we didn't have any option but to spend the night and pray that we could find a repair shop in the morning who had time for us. The receptionist at the Holiday Inn Express was very helpful and gave us 4 reputable auto repair shop names/phone numbers. I asked her which was the best and she said they were all good but J & B the closest. I did some research and decided to call J & B first thing in the morning. At 7 am, I called J & B and, after hearing about our vehicle problems, they said to come on down. Fortunately, the car did start and I crept it a mile or so down the road to J & B. My first impression was great. The attendant (owner?) was very friendly and said he would get his staff working on it as soon as they arrived. Soon we learned that it was a combination of a faulty alternator, a leaky water pump and a worn belt. The mechanics got right on it and the only delays were waiting for the parts which was only a slight delay considering where we were and where one of the parts was located. When presented with the bill, I was happy that I wasn't gouged. Yes, the parts were expensive but J & B did not take advantage of a traveling motorist and gouge me on labor. I was very pleased with the friendliness and service provided by J & B. It was also very consistent with what one local customer told me.... She said J & B was the best in Pendleton, Oregon. In consideration of what I experienced, I would have to agree with the local's opinion. Of special note, J & B advertises that they give free tows to broken down motorists. I did not use this service so I don't know what the requirements are but it is certainly worth the call to ask if you happen to be in a bind. Thanks again for your help, J & B Automotive. We made it safely to our destination and had a great holiday.
