6 of our team went to Pete's after a tennis practice - the food was good as usual. However the service was so slow - it took over 45 minutes once we placed our orders. We were there for over 2 hours . It seems the server was relatively inexperienced. The restaurant was not that crowded. We go there quite a lot. We stopped by here for some early dinner/late lunch when we got into town for a comedy show. The food was absolutely great and the drinks were pretty darn good too. We had two of the bowls, a wrap and wings... all were delicious. The place has a cool sports bar vibe and we do intend to return. That being said.... Customer service is hit and miss. We sat at the bar in the middle of the afternoon and there was only one other customer there. The bartender/server we initially had was ICY cold. We truly (all four of us) did not think she wanted us there. She warmed up a bit - but about 3/4 the way through our meal she left and the next bartender/server was warm and bubbly - everything you would hope for in a server. . OK, we've been customers of Pete's over 35 years, and the 2.5 star rating is B-S. In fact, Pete's has better burgers & onion rings than the other places listed on this Yelp page listing. Yes, we are familiar with them, too. In fact, we frequent one, b/c it is on our way home. One regulars' tip: The ''Little Pete" cheeseburgers are a bit better than the "Big Pete" burgers, despite having the exact same ingredients. No one knows why this is. Pete's is now part of Charley Goodson's Restaurants Group, all of which are very good to excellent. Lots of parking in private lots, little shade. Pub-style full bar with booths & tables all around. Many large TV's with sports events. Full Pub-style menu, with sandwiches, wraps, soups, chili, super burgers, etc. Only negative is that the new decorations seem hostile to LSU Alums & Fans, which comprise about half of the regular customers. My mom and I stopped by Pete's for the first time today and had such a great experience. The atmosphere was welcoming, our waitress was one of the nicest I've ever had, and the food was delicious. We shared a chicken quesadilla and onion rings and loved both. Even the Coke Zero was on point. Ice cold in the perfect glass with the good ice. So glad we finally tried this place. I had seen the bad reviews however i did see people defending the place, i'm from alabama and went there because for some reason i trusted that this place was in fact good, the food was great the service was great and my waiter was very respectful and even turned on the game i requested. if i am ever in Lafayette again i will definitely give them a visit again. nice chill place with tons of tv's and a nice bar. read more

First time visitor here and I was there with friends for about 4 hours, bartenders were great but a manager tapped me on the shoulder and said there were complaints about my volume once he got on shift, DO NOT come here with friends if you're wanting a good time you will be pretty much kicked out for being too loud when the place was pretty much empty! I'll be spending my money elsewhere since apparently they dont want the business! Been coming here for years, I was excited to see it reopen. the hostess was very nice but the manager was very rude (with a fake smile on her face) who actually made the issue worse by not listening to us. When we finally sat down we order two margs on the rocks. Got brought two frozen ones. We tried a frozen and a rocks one and both were bad for different reasons. had to finally ask for a food menu. Fried cheese order was 4 sticks of cheese for $12. no cheese in one of them. Fried pickles were so salty we left them, paid our bill (tipped the waitress, not her fault) and left and went somewhere else to eat. Really could not be a worse experience. read more

Wonderful experience. It's been a long time since I've visited. Finally some employees that know how to wait tables. It's an art. Not all people know this. Our waitress knew this. Treated us with respect and knew serving females first and asking for permission to reach in to simply place a drink on our table. I know this is a simple eat and go. New Pete's They seem to be trying hard and working feverishly but i have been waiting on a hamburger for over 30 minutes. Food has arrived and i will say this: there handcut idaho fries are killer. Hamburger was average. Got to say it was hot and fresh but i have had better tasting burgers. All in all its worth a try. read more

Walked in to try eating at Pete's for the third time. Last time was 6-8 months of reopening so thought maybe issues ironed out. We were told to find a seat. We sat. That was it. No one approached us or talked to us even though it appeared to be a slow lunch. We did make eye contact with one person, but they turned away too quickly for us to say anything. This place used to be great to the point where I would take my family and friends there at least once a month. And then Pete and his family purchased it back from the guy who had owned it for a few years. And then it became mediocre to the point where Pete was forced to sell it again. This time, the current owners, took it from mediocre to outright awful. Case in point - their "club sandwich". The thing they call a "club" is not a club. It is a large lump of grilled chicken pretending to be a club sandwich. A club does not feature a large piece of grilled chicken; that is why those are called grilled chicken sandwiches. If you cannot get a club sandwich right, then I don't know what to say. Sell Pete's again and hope the next owner can get an item from Restaurant 101 right? read more

Service was good but the Big Pete is now a smashed flavorless dried-out shell of its former self. At $7.50 there are way better burgers in Lafayette. We were really disappointed. We also really don't like the idea that the restaurant is now closed during the late game and is completely closed on Sundays. It really is a shame, but I think we have visited Pete's for the last time. Granted they've only been open a week....however we went there tonight (Thursday ) and we're HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED. we sat w/o service for almost 6 minutes and when we did get service were told that they could not accept credit cards and we could use the ATM in the restaurant. How do you close for over 7 months and not have a credit card machine to open??? The menus were printed on plain paper and was not very informative. I used to LOVE the old Petes, but I am very disappointed what has happened to this place. Contrary to what the owners think...I could give a rats ass that you serve Boars Head ham...HAM???? There were more coffee cups that anything behind the bar....there were two dudes just standing behind the bar staring at everyone....kinda creepy. I am not impressed with the renovations, the menu or anything. I only hope that the arrogance of the owner will soon be gone or this place will soon be gone. As long as you get a good server, Pete's is a great option for a sports bar. Their homemade chips are unsurpassable. Seriously. Its also a bar with relativly cheao drinks, especially beer. Its a great place to catch a sporting event (get there early to get a good seat). Worst customer service if you have more than 10 people. They can never handle a group of people showing up. Sucks for a local business that used to be my favorite. So many open tables, but one retirement party in the party room and they can't handle servicing 20 people who showed up at one time and didn't even need to sit together. read more

I gave this place three chances, probably two more than I should have. On the first trip I tried their burgers, which have gotten good reviews in the past and I was looking foward to trying one. It was average at best and a little overcooked. Service was unfriendly and slow. Second trip I decided that I'd try something else before I got there, then looked over the menu and realized nothing else looked even remotely interesting, so I ordered another burger out of desperation. Again, the burger was a disappointment, the service was cold and it almost seemed like the waitress was bothered by the fact that she had to wait on tables. I pretty much swore off Pete's and then noticed the sign for Rib-eye Night out front while driving by this past Thursday and against my better judgement, decided to give them one more chance. The place was mostly empty when we arrived so we grabbed a booth next to the bar. And then we waited. And waited. And waited. A waitress would appear once in a while only to race past us deliberately looking away from our direction. We counted three different waitresses and a bartender working that night, but not one acknowledged us sitting there in plain view waiting to be served. The Big Pete hamburger was excellent. It met all the hype I've heard about it. The lower rating is about the service and the sides. We started with some apps consisting of homemade chips and onion rings. The portion sizes were huge but the grease they fried it all in was rancid. Even the infamous Big Pete couldn't dislodge the terrible aftertaste from my mouth. We told the server that the oil had an off flavor and she quickly informed us that we were the only customers complaining. After that exchange our service went south in a flash. Seriously, people that know me know that I never complain about anything regarding my food. I usually just make a mental note and not order the item again or just not go back to the establishment.
