Growing up this was our favorite burger joint. But lately the service has been so bad that I can't justify wasting my time there. 2 times this month we never even got our order taken....at least the last time we got our drinks. I have a love hate relationship with this place... On one hand they have some of the best burgers in town. If you are a person of habit, you should make a big Pete, (or small) one of them. I get mine with the grilled onions, mushrooms, swish cheese and a fried egg. (That's a requirement in my book to be a great burger). On the other hand, that's all they got going on for them. Their beer selection is limited, and the rest of the food is just not up there. My GF ordered a veggie wrap last time and it was literally wrapped salad mix with little to none dressing or seasoning at all. Pretty gross actually ( and I love veggies). So I was looking for some place new to eat and have an adult beverage or 2 I went to petes on a recommendation and I am sure glad I did. When I walked in, the bar Is directly inside the door and so I sat and was promptly greeted by the bar tender Lydia who went above and beyond to make sure my visit was great. Awesome fried onion rings, excellent burgers - definitely put cheese and fried egg on them, get the quarter pound, not the half pound unless you are in the infantry. Petes is a laid back place to have fun with friends. Their drinks are nice, but not too special. Their food is great for a grab and go type of dine in. I wouldn't recommend going there for a bar experience before 8 because kids are running around everywhere. read more

I've been coming to Pete's since I was a young boy. This place has always been my favorite burger joint in Lafayette. Their Big/Lil Pete specials can't be beat, either. The beer is ice cold, and I love their house made chips. While there are lots of TVs, they need to be upgraded to flatscreen HDTV models. Tried The New Pete's tonight. Went to watch the regionals, Cajun vs Arizona, and get a burger. The service was good a little slow but they were packed. The fried pickles were very good but not hot. Ordered the Big Pete,ask to have it cooked med. the big Pete is a half pound burger, what I got sure looked like a quarter pound at most and had zero seasoning . It was so well done it was tough and nice and cool. So cool the cheese refused to melt. The onion ring would have been good if they weren't cold. To top off the Experience they turn the TV we were watching to the food network in the middle of the 3rd inning. Over all bad experience, next time I'll just go to Walk-On. read more

Food has gotten even worse since the 2nd reopening. Big Pete with mushrooms and pepperjack used to be one if the best burgers around. As a few others have said, the Big Pete is now dry and flavorless and I got it cooked medium, pink in the middle, yet still very dry. Maybe they forgot to season it, idk. They also changed the mushrooms, used to be mushrooms in wine sauce, now they are just bland dry mushrooms. Pulled pork sandwich was slightly better, not crazy about all the cheese on it though. Fries were nasty, very oily tasting. Got an order of wings, which would have been good if they hadn't been scared to put sauce on them, there was practically none. If you are expecting a good burger like they used to have years ago, you will be disappointed. If you have never had a Big Pete in your life, you will still be dissapointed. Pete's in name only. The atmosphere has improved greatly. It used to be dark and dingy but the food was good. The onion rings used to come in a big basket and were delicious. Now they come in a small basket and are ok. The burgers are dry and you have to ask for mayo and mustard that comes in little packs. There used to be salt, pepper, and catsup on the tables, now you ask and they ration it out if you can get their attention. I only eat at locally owned restaurants and I'm disappointed that this restaurant doesn't meet my reasonable standards. read more

Very sad. Someone spent a lot if money making this place look nice but the kitchen and bar are not pulling their weight. Our waiter did a great job trying, but the waiter can't fix the bar or the kitchen. My cocktail was horrible. My kids chicken fingers were burned. My wives hamburger steak had gravy from a can. And my burger was over cooked, dry and unseasoned. You can't stay open serving unseasoned food in south Louisiana. We tried Pete's hoping the old dependable was back, but we will not be returning. Since reopening in April of 2016 I have found much to like about the newest Pete's. First, the food for the price point is excellent and it is not expensive! I have tried the BLT Pimento Cheese, the Little Pete Cheeseburger, the Chili Dog as well as the Fried Pickles, homemade chips and French fries. The bar drinks are good and they have a good choice of quality beer and cocktails. I look forward to trying more! The service is excellent and attentive, can make good suggestions and the kitchen staff is attentive to the special requests. Of course any new restaurant when slammed might have a few bumps but the management is clearly experienced and responds to everything asked. Physically, I like the layout whether you are by yourself or with a group of kids or adults. Lots of choices for a private group and the new location of the game room makes it easy for a family to enjoy! The larger TV's and the sound system are excellent. My friend and I stopped in at Social next door for lunch; well they don't serve lunch on Sunday's, and they were incredibly overpriced for two college kids. We walked over to Pete's and ordered the same thing (a 1/4 lb burger with pimento cheese, bacon, and a fried egg) with fries and a coke for the price of just the burger at Social. Plus, the burger was great! Loved the atmosphere, the Saints game was about 15 flats screens of the 20 in the place and the cleanliness was really above average. 25 years ago this place was great. Today, not so great. Appetizers were swimming in grease. Burger was under seasoned. Egg on burger was over cooked. Bacon on burger was under cooked. Chicken tenders over cooked. Bucket of beer is domestic only, comes with 5 beers for $11.25 and that's their Sunday Funday Special. We had a party of 6 so the gratuity was figured in at 18%. Service was slow but waitress was nice. Cook was in the bathroom stall playing Candy Crush on his phone. No soup on the weekend and gumbo is seasonal, only when it's cold. Yes, Louisiana is a very cold place. Unfortunately Pete's has seen it's better days and with the passing of their long time cook their flavor also died. I just waited for over an hour for two burgers and when they finally did come out, COLD. Not even warm, just plain cold. The new renovations look really nice. Other than that the place is horrible. It is a far cry from what it used to be. The fries are an awful undercooked soggy disgrace. The menu is about 8 items on a piece of yellow construction paper, looks like the school menu that gets sent home with your kids. There is nothing on the tables, no napkins, salt & pepper, sugar, ketchup, Nothing. We all ordered burgers & fries and we each received 1 ketchup packet. Its a sports bar that serves mostly fried foods, put the ketchup on the table. When we asked for more ketchup, they brought 2 additional packets for 3 people. There is one salt & pepper grinder for the entire restaurant, that gets passed around. After we ordered drinks they informed us that the credit card machine was not working that they only accepted cash & checks, but they had an atm at the front of the building. This has been how they have operated since re-opening, o basically bring cash or expect to pay atm fees. The manager stood behind the bar staring at the employees and when one waitress grabbed a bottle of ketchup to bring to a customer he grabbed her by the arm brought her to the back, grabbed a couple of plates and squirted a little ketchup on each plate to bring to the customers. There was another bald-headed guy, assuming a manager, walking around with a scowl on his face looking like he wanted to fight someone. Then he walks to the bathroom, grabs a toilet plunger and brings it through the restaurant into the kitchen. This place is an embarrassment compared to its former self, save your money (and the atm fees). read more
