3 Piece Rib Plate, sauce on the side w/ baked potato, beet salad, French baguette | $17 (Cash only!)
    Cherylynn N.

Pete's brings IT baaaack... Back in time when 70s bush and 80s mullets were a thing. Pete's Barbeque has been feeding the local community in The Mission since the 70s. I haven't been back since my college days but wanted to see what's up. Plus, I wanted to stretch $20 for lunch and dinner. Other than increased pricing due to inflation (still cheap eats), nothing has changed. It's a divey, old-skool rotisserie and hofbrau resto. It's cash only. (There's a ATM next door at the liquor store). I ordered the $17 Rib Plate w/ baked potato and my choice of salad: beets: https://tinyurl.com/37ukdvwp. It was edible. The 3 pc ribs were tough and dry, seasoned with s&p and no other distinct seasoning from what I can tell. The tangy bbq sauce was one-note, watery yet starchy so I'm glad I requested it on the side. Best part of the plate was the beet salad dressed in a vinaigrette. The food is just how I remembered it being from back in the day. Not great BUT, it fed me for lunch and dinner so mission accomplished. Overall, Pete's may not be Tommy's [Joynt] or Harry's [Hofbrau] but hey, if the food isn't hitting it...you have plenty of other affordable options in The Mission for meal #2! O T H E R N O T E S * Pete's is a cafeteria-style rotisserie and hofbrau resto not a "barbeque" joint. No pit or grill. * Menu: Sandwiches ($6-$11), Dinner Plates ($11.50-$18), and Meats by the pound. --Proteins: Rotisserie chicken, spare ribs, turkey, roast beef, or ham. --Dinner Plates include a nekkid baked potato, choice of salad (mac, coleslaw, bean, or beets) and American-style French bread w/ butter. * Several tables for dine in but recommend taking it to-go. * Difficult street parking.

My friend told me she'd been coming here for years, since she was a kid. There was a line right at 11am when they opened on a Thursday. So had to see what the hype was about. It was nice to check out one of her go to spots. Good portions! I really enjoyed the spare ribs and the chicken was very tender and moist. It came with bread and a salad of your choice. Green salad, macaroni salad, potato salad or a garbanzo bean salad.

Polish Sausage sandwich and a side of Macaroni salad

We stopped in on a whim while walking by. My SO went for the ribs and salad and I had the polish sausage sandwich and a side macaroni salad. A baked potato and a roll also comes with the ribs dinner so all things considered it was a ton of food for the price. The bread was nice and soft with a good crust, veggies were fresh, and the mac salad was very good. Cold and tangy, very classic. Otherwise it was just ok, IMO. BBQ sauce was kinda thin and lacking flavor, sausage was average. Nothing super standout, but it will fill you up for sure. Not a lot of inside seating to speak of and parking is an obvious challenge in the area. They were super busy even at 2:30/3pm on a weekend so clearly it's popular but I wouldn't go back. Cash only.

Seriously delicious. We ordered a whole chicken and it was the best rotisserie chicken we've had in the city! Lasted for three meals! Came with tangy barbecue sauce too. The sandwiches are huge and super fresh.

My family and I were craving for BBQ. We decided to give this BBQ joint a try. The chicken was very dry. We had to pour the BBQ sauce over the chicken in order to eat it. The ribs had too much fat in them. They don't fall off the bone like some other BBQ places. The macaroni salad tasted pretty good. It tasted better than expected.

When my younger brother and I were kids, we loved going to my Aunt Mary's house. The relatives would play Mahjong and get excited about "bbq" which consisted of hot dogs and pork chops on a small charcoal grill! When my brother and I got a little bit older, one of our favorite places was Chili's for their "Chili's...baby back ribs.." Went to Pete's from the first time in high school and decided to visit again. No frills bbq. Awesome good chicken( sorry, don't think it's Mary's organic!) and ribs! It's been around for over 40 years! Cash Only!

This restaurant has been a fixture in this neighborhood since forever but it's only recently that I checked it out. The barbeque aroma from outside is always on point. I ordered a turkey and ham sandwich on sourdough. The bread was surprisingly soft for me. The turkey they have here is cooked fresh everyday. It was juicy and the ham had just the right taste to it and wasn't too greasy.

We had the pork spare ribs, a half-pound of brisket, sausages, baked beans, a pulled pork sandwich, and regular fries. The meats were good, but honestly not up to the level of BBQ you'd find in places like Los Angeles or Austin. Everything leaned a bit dry, so we ended up relying heavily on the sauces to bring some moisture back. To make matters worse, they forgot to include the white bread that was supposed to come with the ribs, sausages, and brisket. After all that, the standout of the meal ended up being... the regular fries, which were actually excellent. I also had to wait a bit when I arrived -- our order wasn't ready despite giving them more than the estimated time. On the plus side, the customer service was friendly and the casual outdoor seating has good vibes. Overall, 4505 has really gone down over the years, and SF definitely needs to step up its BBQ game.

Granted we were a bit late for our reservation, we ended up having to wait another 30-40 mins. The place (2nd floor) is small & awkward. We were all cramped waiting on the stairway and the actual seating area is also fairly small for a busy KBBQ place/big parties. The 8 of us squeezed into a booth with 2 chairs on the side. You can also feel whenever the table next to us got up and stomped/yelled/moved in their chairs-- which was really often. The basic AYCE menu is fairly limited-- esp for the side options. The marinated meats were pretty good as was the tteokbokki. Side & meat portions were alright, but the kicker is having to flag down staff to make sure they put in the order & bring it out. We asked for japchae about 5 times before it actually reached our table towards the end of our meal. The server/manager also told us that he had accidentally brought out 2 bottles of soju for us and that he'd COMP 1 bottle. We didnt notice that he had actually charged us for 2 and comped/subtracted a "third" one. So none were really comped at all. I just realized after we paid and that felt really sketchy. Super awesome. The kitchen is wide open. Everything was super clean and well put together. Service - 5/5 Great recommendations from the staff. The house slaw and banana pudding were clearly popular choices, and they definitely knew what they were doing when guiding the order. I told them it's my first time. These were what they recommended me. One of the staff actually gave a piece of brisket to try. Very nice of them to give a free sample before I order so I know what I'm expecting. Food - 4.5/5 Dish Ordered: Dino Rib, Brisket ( 1/2 lb), House Slaw, Banana Pudding 5/5 Dino Rib Wow. This was the highlight. The meat was unbelievably tender--every single part of it. Usually with ribs, especially the upper portions, you get some toughness or dryness depending on how it's smoked. Not here. This one was melt-in-your-mouth soft, juicy throughout, and you could practically pull it apart effortlessly. The seasoning was perfect--balanced, not too salty, not bland, just right. Every bite hit. 4/5 Brisket ( 1/2 lb) About two slices. Visually, it looked great--nice color, juicy, with a solid fatty portion. But after eating the Dino rib, it felt a bit underwhelming. Still good, just didn't hit as hard flavor-wise. Might be better appreciated on its own next time. 5/5 House Slaw This paired extremely well with the meat. Sweet, tangy, and refreshing. The hint of peanuts adds a nice nutty layer that makes it stand out. It cuts through the richness of the meat perfectly. 5/5 Banana Pudding Not your typical pudding--it's more like a banana cake. The sweetness not too overwhelming, smells amazing, and just hits the spot. A great way to finish the meal. Additional Comments The Dino rib alone makes this place worth it. It sets a very high bar, which honestly makes everything else feel secondary. The best Rib I have ever had in my life so far. Important thing to note is that the rib will be weighed. I don't think you can ask to get the portion you want like you can with the brisket. My Dino rib came out to be 1.6lb. The sides and dessert complement the meal really well and round out the experience. Price is bit is definitely in the higher end but the experience is definitely worth it.
