I had two reasons for picking this place. The name! and that there are few places to eat in this area. As a grumpy person myself, I am qualified to judge that the name is false advertising. The owner was friendly and helpful. I chose the bulgogi rice plate. It was well prepared, more workmanlike than gourmet and that's great when you're hungry in a food desert. Maybe not many people order bulgogi, the owner was surprised and asked where I had eaten Korean food. I said Oakland K-town and we laughed about how it barely qualifies as a K-town compared to the big ones. Then he brought the best gochuchang I've ever had, said it was his family recipe. read more

I'm not sure what motivated me to come to this weekday breakfast/lunch counter spot. It's in the middle of a lot of blank-faced industrial buildings and off-the-grid offices as I walked away from Bayshore Blvd. toward Bayview. The area was so generic that I'm sure I didn't take the most direct path. I finally saw the sign with the ironic smiley face to go with their surly name. It was a little past 1:30PM when I arrived, plenty of time before their 2:30PM closing. But I was immediately informed they were closing and that I couldn't dine here. Well, OK then...I didn't whine about it but took it to go. They really need to update their hours. But anyway, I quickly ordered the $12.99 Chicken Teriyaki plate and didn't let the door hit me on the way out. I didn't drive over, so it wasn't like there was a nearby park or even a bus bench. Then I remembered passing by Hawker Alley where they have covered outdoor seating (review: https://bit.ly/3rHuld3). Normally I don't arbitrarily sit at another business and take advantage of their open tables. However, since only one table was occupied, I helped myself. Stopped in to this Korean owned/operated cafe for a quick breakfast run for some coworkers this morning. Located in a heavy industrial area, I can see this being an easy go to for breakfast/lunch for workers in the area. The space itself was pretty large, well lit, organized and clean. The menu includes traditional American breakfast items, sandwiches, burgers and Korean fare. My coworkers ordered ham and cheese omelettes with a side of sausage and I had the special AM sandwich. The food was prepared fresh hot in less than 10 minutes! My sandwich was the perfect size with a sausage patty and freshly pan fried eggs stuffed between perfectly toasted/buttered English muffin bread. Simple, quick, fresh and easy. I agree with Harold T comment. Quality of the food has gone down while prices have gone up since the former owners left. The portions are smaller as well. Also the way the sandwiches and breakfast bagels are prepared and presented is very sloppy. I ordered a sandwich last week that was basically falling apart and not wrapped neatly. read more

This place has a definitive monopoly of all the office spaces in the area. Great spot to sit down and relax before work over some hot breakfast. I would suggest calling ahead if you're in a rush. This is a much needed island of comfort in the middle of the industrial district. It's nearly invisible from the outside, a nondescript office building on one of the quieter alleys. SF is sorely lacking in diners, and this fills a little of that emptiness, though with Asian American flair, especially Korean and Japanese. Perfect for early morning breakfasts on the way to the airport or for quick lunch breaks in the middle of a busy day of errands in the area. Portions are large. The katsu was crisp, though it could have been a little more tender. They're not nearly as grumpy as you'd think with a name like that, but do expect no-nonsense service. Someone there has an excellent green thumb. I always love seeing the plants thriving at the front of the dining room. read more

Really liked this random find. Was walking around after I dropped off my car to be worked on and saw a sign for grumpy cafe. They have a large selection of breakfast (eg omelettes, pancakes, breakfast sandwiches) and lunch items, American and Korean. I opted for the bibimbap. Was pretty good, and especially for the price of $8.99, I'll say it was a success. Service was quick and plenty of dining space. Great spot for anyone utilizing the local services in Bayview-Hunters Point area on Industrial right off 101. Good cheap food, wide screen tv, snacks, beverages. I'd definitely come back if I'm in the area. I also had a side order of fries because, well....fries. Came across this new place for lunch. The restaurant seems to have taken a new owner and layout, replacing the Chinese food from before. Looking at the menu, there's quite a variety laid out, between a mix of Japanese food, American food and a little bit of Korean food as well. As per lunch, I ordered the chicken teriyaki and it was really good. The chicken was cooked right, soft and juicy. The teriyaki sauce wasn't overly sweet as some places are and the portions are pretty big. I'll be coming back to try out some of the Korean food they have to offer. Til then! read more

The French toast is awesome and a big portion, not like IHOP or Denny's where you get two pieces.
