Extremely disappointing service. I called Pete's Auto Service in advance about my check engine light and was told to bring my car in Thursday morning. I dropped it off at 8:00 A.M. and left, expecting an update within a reasonable time. By noon, I hadn't heard anything, so I called. The manager (whose name I wasn't given) told me my car was "in line." Why was it still waiting after four hours? I gave it another two hours, called again, and was told my car still hadn't been looked at and would need to be "fit into the schedule." This was never communicated to me beforehand. By 3 P.M. -- with the shop closing at 6 P.M. -- I had no choice but to pick up my vehicle and take it elsewhere. Pep Boys was able to help me right away and provided excellent service. My entire day was wasted due to Pete's Auto Service's lack of communication and poor customer care. I chose them because of their good reviews, but I'll never return. I went to have my vehicle emission test last year and fir the first time ever, my vehicle failed. I was so frustrated because I did not know what to do and I had to pay money to have a 30 day extension and they gave me a list of auto shops. I chose Pete's because I was in Burbank and the reviews were good. I went there and the receptionist did a great job explaining the process. They promised that their fix would help me pass the emissions test and it did. I did not expect to pay that much but I wasn't in a position to get estimates. I had also recently experienced a broken door handle and a window that kept getting stuck due to a recent theft attempt and I was frustrated. The staff sensed my overall frustration but agreed to fix my door for the same price and i took the deal. I would recommend them because they were responsive and fast and their staff was amazing! Pete and his team did a fantastic job helping me with my called emissions repairs. Pete was very honest and professional. The only improvement I would make is to really work on time management. I was informed a job would be completed by 4 pm. I arrived then and waited almost two hours, until closing, to actually be able to pay and leave. This place is not honest. They say they'll fix your car. Yet I repeatedly had to take it back for them to finally correct the issue. They say they will call you with updates on your car. They never do. You have to repeatedly call them and many times they haven't even touched your car. They say they fix your car but when you take it else where you find out they missed something or half assed something. Stay away from this place. read more

I highly recommend Pete's auto service, Pete is a trusted and honest mechanic, which is very hard to find now a days! I explained to him that my 09 Chevy Malibu wasn't passing the emission's test. After taking a look at it, he right away found the problem. Prior to taking my car to Pete's, I had taken it to 2 other shop's and it had been "fixed" by two other mechanics (who charged an arm and a leg), and still the issue continued. Pete explained how the throttle body works and why it was giving me a problem and he also told me that Malibu's are very tricky (if you have an 09 Malibu you know he's right lol). He proceeded to fix the problem, and he gained a loyal customer here! You can tell that after I explained that he was the 3rd mechanic I've gone to, he was genuinely trying to help me save money and fix the problem. This guy will RIP YOU OFF went there cause his shop was on the emissions paper list of shops when i got there I asked him what the time frame would be told me he would have a estimate at the end of the day or first thing in the morning... I didn't hear from them At all I had to call in the afternoon the next day and his diagnosis was that there was "a lot of oil on wires" which was BS and due to that he spent almost 3 days "wiping them off" till I showed up and told him I wasn't leaving without my vehicle and he started getting disrespectful... then I told him to give me my car and l'Il take it somewhere else but he proceeded to threaten me that if I do that I have to pay him over 300 for nothing then while I waited somehow he was able to finish take the car to the emissions and "pass the test" after he said he still needed time... then on the way home the check engine light turned back on Imao what a joke... I took it to a REAL mechanic and he said it was a ignition coil and after that my car was fine... this guy will lie to u use a computer to erase the code charge u a arm and a leg just so the light can still be on read more

i had failed my emissions test twice before i got the list of mechanics that were recommended to fix whatever was wrong with my car to get it to pass. pete's auto was the first one on the list, with the most serviced cars and 100% success rate. i checked the other reviews here and decided to go with them, and it was such a good decision! pete and his team were super helpful, and he explained to me exactly what everything on the emissions test sheet meant and how we could get my car all in order to pass. definitely recommend this place and will be coming back in the future! read more

This shop is horrible!!! They had my car for three days before they told me the problem. They are not good at returning your calls. I had to go to the shop just to get an update. They said I needed a transmission among other things. They said it would cost $4,000 to fix. I took it to a transmission shop and they said it definitely wasn't a transmission problem. The problem was the wires. Apparently, some rodents chewed the wires. The other shop fixed the problem for $400. I'm so glad I followed my first mind and got a second opinion!!! read more

Very disappointed in the service I received here. Pete's Auto came highly recommended however they did not deliver. This shop kept my vehicle 2 days (initially stating they would only need 1 day to assess issue) and did not provide me with a print out assessment of the issue at all, the sole purpose for me stopping in. Never ever again!!! In November 2021, my car was overheating and had a coolant leak. I took my car to PETES for service. It was almost a thousand dollars but I 'assumed' it was 'fixed.' The head gasket was replaced and it ran ok for about three months ONLY! In February of this year, the overheating and stalling continued. I had a temporary fix! Fast forward to now (July 2022) and guess what???? THE COOLANT is leaking, it is stalling, and it is just as 'ill' as it was when I first brought it to Petes!! The car once again went to hot, the gages started fluttering, and coolant gushing from under the car WHILST I WAS DRIVING! Another customer who reviewed the shop also stated that PETES 'claim' the issues are fixed only to have it surface again in no time flat. I was TOLD that it was NOT my head gasket that needed replacing, but something else entirely! So pissed off that I paid 1k for absolutely nothing!!! I am sticking with CERTIFIED auto on 83rd and Pulaski. I should have listened to my heart and head and taken it them in the first place! I had my 09 Nissan Morano fixed here cus it wouldn't pass emissions they took very good care of me like I was family and they fixed my truck and it was able to pass the emissions test. I found Pete's auto service by accident. My car overheated at the Gary Indiana toll booth --I got it off the road called insurance for a tow --they recommended a different Pete's auto service that was closed. So I went online And found another Pete's auto -so I called them. The person I spoke to was Knowledgeable, honest, and and friendly. these are all fine qualities however that doesn't mean your vehicle is going to be repaired accordingly. These people try to keep your expense level down as they have to make a profit as well -And they are very timely and forthright. I have been taking my vehicles to a place in Michigan for 10 years. was I nervous? Yes extremely. However, The owner of the shop I would have to rate AAA plus in knowledge and that is not a light complement. this is a diamond --I would recommend this shop and will recommend the shop to people I work with or strangers --i will take my vehicle there for other things in the future.
