A+ Service -- I'll Never Go Anywhere Else…read more I want to give a heartfelt thank you to the incredible team at Charles County Surgical Arts -- you've officially changed how I view dental procedures. I came here with a deep fear of dental work due to a traumatic extraction years ago. My primary dentist, who knows how serious my phobia is, referred me straight to Dr. McElveen and his team -- and I'm so glad they did. From start to finish, this place has been nothing short of elite-level care. My consultation was smooth, thoughtful, and respectful. Dr. McElveen walked me through the best sedation option for my needs, and every step afterward was handled with professionalism and kindness. Special shoutouts: * Nurse Nicole made me feel cared for from beginning to end. * Trinity at the front desk was warm, welcoming, and kept everything moving smoothly. * And every other young lady who helped behind the scenes -- I noticed your professionalism and calm presence. Thank you. The day of my procedure? Flawless. I arrived on time, was taken back quickly, and before I knew it -- it was over. My husband was able to pull up to the side entrance (which looked like it used to be a drive-thru bank) and they wheeled me out straight to the car. Talk about first-class service. That kind of care doesn't usually happen at a dentist's office, but here it felt like I was being treated like family... or a VIP. While my husband waited, there was coffee and water available in the lobby -- a small touch that makes a big difference. He even commented on how comfortable the space was. Now for two helpful suggestions -- not complaints, just tips to improve an already excellent experience: 1. Blankets: The office was chilly (as most medical centers are), but there were no blankets available that morning. I was in short sleeves and could've used one while waiting. I understand they were being laundered, but I recommend keeping a few ready earlier in the day, especially for anxious patients like me. 2. Acrylic Nails Tip: If you're getting sedation, ladies -- consider clipping your pointer finger acrylic nail or leaving one off. The oxygen monitor has to clamp on that finger, and I didn't realize that until afterward. It'll save discomfort and make things easier for the team. Even with that, they were so attentive. My blood pressure was elevated due to nerves, and they monitored it carefully. Dr. McElveen made sure I was fully stabilized before even starting. That level of care shows integrity. And the follow-up? Exceptional. * I got a text the same evening. * I received TWO phone calls the next morning to check on me. That kind of check-in is rare -- and incredibly appreciated. If I ever need another tooth extraction, implant, or sedation-based dental procedure, I will only trust Charles County Surgical Arts. Thank you all for treating me with care, dignity, and excellence. This is how patient-centered healthcare should be done. With deep appreciation, Please check out my prior review of my consultation

The initial appointment and the actual…read moreday to get my wisdom tooth pulled, Dr. Michael Choi shows a great deal of irritation in his face and body language. He's very short and irritable with his responses. Sometimes, he just nods his head yes or no due to him being so annoyed. Also, this was my very first time having any surgery in my entire life! I had NO clue how this would go. Dr. Michael Choi was not vocal at all during the procedure to make me feel comfortable. For an example, I did not know when I would get stuck with a needle to be numb, which needle would hurt more than the other, when a tooth has been removed and when we were moving on to the next. The only thing he was vocal about was when he needed me to "turn my head to the left." The amount of tension in the room from his irritable face expressions and body language made me and in my opinion, his assistants very uncomfortable and feel like a burden during a extremely scary and stressful time for me as a first time surgery patient. The second Doctor Michael Choi stepped back, I did not know we were finished. I asked him "are we done?" He did not vocally tell me yes like he never vocally responds, all he did was nod his head. He asked if I had any questions then quickly exited the room. I would never recommend anyone especially if it's their first time to Doctor Michael Choi. It was an extremely difficult and heart aching experience with him as my doctor on top of already being extremely nervous ALL MONTH and never having any kind of surgery AT ALL in my entire life. I pray whatever he has going on in his personal life does not continue to fall over in his place of profession. That will only cause somebody else going further uncomfortable and like a burden the same that it made me. Thanks

My first visit was ok, the office staff is very nice but Dr Smith never looked at my mouth at all, He looked at the screen that his tech had uploaded pictures he had taken. He joked and laughed with 3 other people on his staff about the "bio-load" in my mouth. I am a registered nurse and knew exactly what he was saying. I should have walked out of the office at that point and I am sorry I did not. I was told my bill will either be $200 or $400 for the initial visit, depending on how they chose to bill. (???) I had to pay out of pocket on that day and then they billed me THAT same day for a biopsy that was done over a month later! They billed for a future service. Who does that? The biopsy was finally done and I was scheduled for a follow up the month after that. I called for the report a week prior to the appointment (3 weeks after the biopsy), they didn't have it. I called the day before my follow up, still didn't have it. I asked how we would have a follow up with no results? His dental assistant looked for the results and called me in the evening after the office had closed sounding like he was perturbed at my asking for the results of MY BIOPSY, he gave me the results and cancelled my follow up saying we didn't need to do any more. But I am still having an issue. The results were "precancerous" and I now have a wound were he biopsied that is not healing well. As of today, none of the bill has been covered by insurance. I have a new wound in my gum and my initial issue I went in for was never addressed. My mouth is sore and so far I am personally out over $800 dollars, which I paid up front, for nothing to have been resolved. I actually suspect fraud possibly taking place with their odd billing practice, and as for the doctor, very unprofessional and he likely caused more issues and he helped in no way. I spoke with someone in the office about my bill which CareFirst has denied, I asked why I was told they are in-network. I was told that sometimes the people at the desk will say they are in network (???). That is kind of a big mistake to make. I went in with high hopes that Dr. Smith would help with my issue, he did not, but I did get a big bill and a "free" tooth brush! Unless he decides to change and behave like a real doctor, don't waste your time or money.
