Everyone I interacted with were very helpful. I need to give a special shout-out to Daniel. Daniel was the BEST! He spent as much time as I needed in selecting a little over 95 linear feet of wood. It is for door casings and baseboards with the finished wood to be the star of the detail. They had what I was looking for when all of my normal haunts in LA County didn't. It was worth the two hour drive (one way) to get it. However, they no longer will "rip" the wood for you. If you want the best wood at the best price this is the place to go. Everything is well organized and the wood is always the highest quality. No warped or damaged wood like the big box stores. no he tenido mucha suerte en este lugar, tengo mi negocio pequeño recien me mudé para este condado, antes vivía en Downey y compraba mi material en aquella área, el servicio de perterlumber da mucho que desear, la primera vez que compré allí llegué a las 3.20 pm a comprar 4 hojas plywood birch y me dijo la señorita que ya era tarde para poder sacar el material... como si cierran a las 4pm. regrese al siguirnte día por la mañana y me atrndieron aunque tardaron 30 mins en entregarme el material, después volví a la semana siguiente a comprar más material mis compras son casi siempre de melamine o plywood y lo mismo mas de 30 mins esperando en warehouse para la entrega, una siguiente semana fui a comprar cabinets hinges le pregunté en front desk si tenian ( llevé una muestra) y dijeron que no había, pasé a buscarlas y si tenían , me dijeron " no sabíamos que vendíamos" , voy por lo menos una vez a la semana a comprar material, ayer fui otra vez, hice la orden 2 horas antes para ahorrar tiempo y según ellos tienen un sign que te dice que ordenes antes para ahorrar tiempo llegue, pague y fui al warehouse, pregunté si ya estaba lista ( 7 hojas), me dijeron ya están trabajando en ella hoy estamos muy despacio, no era cierto !!! bi cuando le entregó la hoja a uno de tantos que andan en sus forklifts " trabajando" , volví a separar 25 minutos!!! ... en fin no he tenido buena experiencia en este lugar con el servicio, el material pues es lo mismo que he comprado siempre los precios están en el promedio algunas cosas un poco más caras. nota, en los otros lugares que compraba material ll más que tardas son 10 minutos y en algunos no tienen forklift los chavod te lo cargan a mano. Love this place. It was my first visit to a real lumber yard of any kind, and mostly because my wife slid some cabinets onto a honey-do when I wasn't looking. The staff was cool and actually took some time to explain the different grades of ply and hardwood I might like for a first project. It's not close to home, but I was perfectly fine making the hour drive to go buy more material when I estimated wrong. Their prices are just plain neat, better plywood for a little more than half of the best option you can get at the big box stores. This place can probably be credited for the carpentry hobby sticking with me. read more

We went to Ganahl looking for teak wood and they recommended Peterman. All we can say is "WOW". They have a large selection of hardwoods, as well as exotics. We ended up purchasing maple molding and a slab of live edge black walnut (they did have teak). Our first visit we were a little intimidated as contractors were picking up large loads of lumber and it was extremely busy. Everyone there treated us like we were large customers. I wish we had gotten names to mention here - one was Mike. We have been back twice for projects I'm working on. read more

I was blown away by the options they offer AND their customer service! Immediately upon entering we were greeted and helped. Once inside the warehouse, we didn't know where to start, there was so much to choose from. I did not know they offer more than just lumber. They offer kitchen cabinets, drawer pulls and loved that they had soft closing drawer hinges. From the employees who cut our wood to size, put together our invoice and took payment... everyone was awesome. I especially liked when we were shown their butcher block options! Seriously, I wouldnt expect much from a lumbar yard/business, but the staff is pretty amazing and go above and beyond. You can tell they have values of a family owned business by how they treat their customers. I called looking for wood baseboards and Steve helped me save money by suggesting the MDF that would meet my needs, which I appreciated his honesty and not trying to upsell. On top of that the prices are much lower than Big box stores and they have more selection - I ordered a style from the manufacturer's website. They also deliver for a reasonable fee. Steve was patient with my calls and questions and responsive when I was ready to order. The delivery driver was also friendly and when we offered to help, he thanked us but happily said "I got it!". The cherry was that I realized on installation day that I didnt have baseboards for the closet! I contacted Steve and he said they wouldnt be able to order until Monday, then I asked if there were any businesses closer to me that might have a few in stock. He gave me a couple names, but they didnt have any. Then, Steve contacts me and tells me he FOUND another location that has them and to call them because they were closing soon. Wow, I did not expect that level of service and its rare to find that in an employee or person that does the research for you! I called and was able to get a few extra boards and pick up within an hour, which totally saved me from having to figure out installtion for a small quantity. I'm very impressed by the quality and price of the materials, but I'm also blown away by how quickly they filled my order and helped me load my truck. This is the only place I will buy wood from now on. The plywood cuts beautifully on my CNC machine, and there are no voids or flaws. Me and the wife stopped by trying to find some wood we can have our carpenter use to make some beam covers for our beams in our living room. The crew here is super helpful and knowledgeable. We walked in super lost and they pointed us in the right direction. Jerry, Sal, Jose, and Rich(guy with the beard) were all so helpful. There was another guy I can't remember his name but literally the entire staff was outstanding. You can tell this lumber yard takes hiring good people to represent them seriously. We'll definitely be back once we get with our samples tested by our carpenter and decide which material we want to go with! read more

Buyer beware!!!! I had a special order item that they sales person claimed was a solid piece of essentially expensive, fancy countertop. When it arrived, it was laminate on a piece of wood. Then they said I need to get special edging etc. This was a 700.00 piece of wood with laminate! I am working with the State Attorney General to try to resolve the issue. Even though I called them while the item was still on the truck, they will not take it back. They are far from an honorable company. I would suggest you go elsewhere. read more

Our local lumber yard ran out of 2x12 western red cedar (grade vg) and I called these guys they said they had it available so I drove for 45 minutes and the guy in the lumber area said they don't have any. I went to the office and another guy said that the minimum buy is 100 board feet because they didn't want to send anyone out into the yard for my smaller qty. I needed a small amount of zebra wood for a couple of table tops I was making and Peterman was the only place on so cal that had any. I drove over an hour in search of the perfect material for my kitchen cabinet doors/drawers. I've never been to a lumber yard before so I walked in not knowing what to expect BUT I walked out having received the highest quality service, BAR NONE! Every single person I encountered was courteous and eager to help. Rich Alvarez went above and beyond to help me find the material I was looking for. I was all over the place when I walked in but he was patient with me and I must say, his multi tasking skills are impressive. He was able to help me, answer his radio/delegate tasks and make sure walk-ins were being helped-- all while making me feel like I had his full attention. He knows what he's doing and he loves what he does and it shows..I had seen a small sample of a material I liked at my cabinet makers shop and wanted to see a full sheet. Rich took me over to their other warehouse where the Salt products were and Oscar and Marcelano had full sheets ready for me to see. They were both friendly and seemed happy to be helping me...I walked out with the biggest sense of relief having finally picked the material for my kitchen and it's all thanks to Rich. I'm a hobbyist woodworking, primarily making furnitures, so read this review with that in mind... I'm going to review the 4 lumber yards that I frequent, Peterman, Cherokee, Reel, and Austin and will rate them against each other using Austin Hardwoods as gold standard... Customer service: 3 stars... You will need to find people to help you... maybe that's just how they roll and leave you alone in your deep thoughts of woodworking but I have yet to have someone to ask if I needed help. Product selection: 5 stars... they have a pretty good selection in terms of lumber and plywood. Sam Maloof got some of his wood from here (I saw them in his shop), so you know it's gotta be good. They also have decent selection of hardware, but they do not sell Blum (I think they sell the brand Grass). Actual product: ??? Although I have been here a few times, I've never bought anything because they don't have a panel saw to help you cut down the plywood... Summary for this place: this place is definitely catered to contractors and serious woodworkers with a truck... DIYers with cars, don't bother. read more

When I was chilling in the I.E while I looked for a crib and was rebuilding my business, I came upon this place off the 10E in what lots of folks call, "Fontucky" Sure, it is a city with cows and horses, truckers, tract housing, farms and big box shopping centers, but for the most part, like the city. The windstorms can be daunting but, I found the residents quite friendly. When I saw this lumber yard, I got off the freeway and went to see what I could transform into a unique, artistic creation. The place is huge and they service wholesale and retail clients. As soon as I walked in, the light bulb lit up! But this was 2010, so the light bulb looked like a curly fry. I saw a pallet of wood veneer that was on sale. They did not charge me extra to cut the planks to the small sizes needed. My idea was a hit. The demand for it keeps Daisy in Dog food and me in two buck chuck. All of my merchandise sells well since I have re-relocated to SoCal. My resources are about 95% better here. That translate to positive cash flow. As much as I like Peterman's Lumber, that drive on the 10E to get there from my new digs by the beach is killer! Sooo...my next review about lumberyards will be from a spot closer to the crib/studio. read more
