Springfield is not my favorite place to travel, but I generally am pretty happy with the Peter Pan Bus Terminal. Cleanliness is always a bit of an issue but the workers here are always nice and helpful. Last time I traveled through here I was trying to make a connection and even though I asked the wrong person, he pointed me to the right person to ask. The time before that, I missed a connection because of a delayed train and the workers made sure that I was able to get on the next bus still. Not my favorite place to waste time, but if I have to be in a train station, there are certainly worse. Food options available include McDonald's and Dunkin' Donuts. read more

worst ever! I have been trying to commute to and from work from Amherst to Springfield and back for a year spending on average $800 + per month. The bus is NEVER ON TIME! I am ALWAY LATE! Whenever I say something to the driver about being 20-40 minutes late getting back to Amherst, they say "So? What do you want me to do?" I have been using this service from CT to BOSTON for three years and man, has this service gone downhill all while the prices skyrocket. In 2012 a round trip ticket between these two places would have been at most $30 round trip and now it is usually $55. Mind you gas has nearly halfed in price. So for $25 more on average you can now expect not cheap crappy service, but expensive crappy service. Peter Pan Bus Lines is notorious for the following: *overbooking buses, causing a huge line for one time slot. The passengers in the middle or back of the line have to wait for another bus to arrive. *terrible customer service and a terrible service website *online glitches *my personal favorite: not giving a crap about the itinerary they promise you. I literally once rode this bus for an hour, about half way to my destination, and the bus TURNED AROUND and went back to my departure station to pick up SIX more passengers who bought tickets. The buses they pretty much always keep in the new shape & such-got WI-FI, chargers, clean good drivers & such. now for those who may not fully know the previous review I had was only of the old terminal at 1776 Main St. in this place but thanks to the Union Station redevelopment that station is now ripped down but the garage if you got a coach which needs services no matter make/model don't worry & if a bad one occurs there's a branch called Coach Builders which helps in refurbishing & making it look like it never occurred. Having had a stellar experience taking the Logan Run w Peter from Providence, I'm taking a chance trying to use the service from Western MA. This area is a transportation desert and many folks depend on Peter Pan to get them even to nearby Greenfield or Amherst, a 45 min drive if you have a friend. Having printed my pass, I was dismayed find I STILL had to wait in line to confirm the actual route # & therefore gate. Also dismayed that I read and follow instructions, thinking that I had to check in to check my bag and get here an hour early (ok, I got here 30 min before boarding, which turns out to be 25 min for departure! OY) obviously I'm hoping this all means I arrive at Logan time for my cross country flight. There are scads of travelers here, but sadly, this station is the kind of environment that leads most people to avoid buses if they can afford a better alternative: like a friend who can drive them to the airport. From the poser posse's lounging in the middle of every doorway, to the truculent young people who saunter up to the window, still on their phones, and stay that way through the entire transaction, this is down and out, broke ass America rubbing shoulder bags with tourists & college students & Grama's trying to get somewhere for under $50. It would be nice if they'd power wash the entire joint so you could sit or put a bag down, but ultimately, I'm gonna be happy if I get there on time & the bus crapper is not un-usable. I can't complain about my past experiences traveling via Peter Pan. It's cheap and get's you where you need to go. When I travel up north and decide to visit other areas without wanting to worry about car rentals; this is the way to do it. In one occasion I was able to get a one way ticket from Hartford CT, to NY, NY (3 hour drive) for 12 bucks. You simply can't beat it, and at times you can get even cheaper deals through their website when they have special offers. You can visit their website during business hours (9-5 I believe) and chat live with customer service agents if you have questions regarding purchases or points of destination. ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS!!!!!! The buses are in a deplorable conditions. Absolutely FILTHY. I feel dirty for the entirety of the trip. Good luck finding a working outlet or hooking up to the wifi. Just boarded the bus which was suppose to leave at 6:10. At exactly 6:24 they made an announcement stating there's a 20 minute delay and we would be boarding at 6:25... The customer service is horrendous. They have a computer glitch that doesn't allow online transactions to go through. The worst part about it is that the guys on the phone were actually blaming me for the transaction not going through. This has to be one of the grossest bus depots out there. It's dingy, it smells, and there are legitimately scary people. Seriously. That being said, the staff is friendly and helpful, they at least post security guards everywhere. The bathrooms could use a major face-lift. I think I used the better part of roll of toilet paper in my attempts to safe-guard my bits and pieces. The toilet looked mummified. The Peter Pan buses however - those deserve 4 stars. They provide free wi-fi and they arrived 40 minutes early into Springfield and 40 minutes early on my return trip to Boston. Very prompt, very fast, blows Greyhound out of the water. read more

Awful experience! Almost ONE HOUR LATE and they did not check for passengers the way they are supposed to! Waiting at the designated passenger pick up spot in Southbury CT for my bus to Hartford CT, it was was almost ONE HOUR late when I saw it through the window. So I grabbed my back pack at the same time that I saw the bus leaving the pick up spot. I didn't even had the chance to get on the bus! Hello, To whom it may concern: I rode peter pan bus from UMASS Amherst to Springfield. Despite being a repeat bus customer with greyhound, peterpan, and other companies, I still felt confused by the complex ticketing process once again. After reading the reviews on yelp.com it appears that I am not the only one who shared the same frustration. But most of all I feel obliged to tell you about the incompetence of your ticket agent at UMASS Amherst. Through allegedly no fault of the clerk, the schedule and ticket system he was using not only had a $15 surcharge for a piece of paper called a ticket, but also failed to book a customer on her way to Worcester by telling her that she had missed the last bus of the day already at 11am, when in fact I can see on your published schedules that there are at least 4 or 5 busses a day there. The agent also could not see my 3pm bus to Nyc. So I had to resort to booking the ticket three hours later online myself, even though I had to pay an extra print fee of $1 at the library and could not use the convenience of a smart phone to travel ticketless- a smarter way to travel these days. VivA la megabus! Bottom line is you lost that confused customer on 10.16.2011, perhaps permanently. The clerk was unapologetic as she left, blaming peterpan and a "new system" of ticketing that he could not maintain. Meanwhile I always hear the fretting in your house about megabus stealing market share. It is not theft if you are giving it up so carelessly. The ticket agent on campus of Umass had been far more helpful and competent back in 2004 which had been well before you moved the facility into a hard to find basement. Perhaps the university should also be responsible for servicing its students better, but you have no excuse for allowing this to go on at the expense of your ridership. Peter Pan Bus Lines are emblematic of the decline of Springfield Massachusetts. I've used Peter Pan buses traveling between Springfield, Providence, and New York, and the experience is universally terrible. The stations are all decrepit, 1950's-era rat nests teeming with petty criminals, screaming Puerto Rican children, and drug addicts. I'd suggest bringing pepper spray, or maybe a gun. And the service itself sucks. Buses are almost always late, and the interiors haven't been updated since the early 90's. They're dark and cramped; so don't expect to be pulling out your laptop. Do yourself a favor and take a train if you can. It may be slightly more expensive (Peter Pan ain't cheap either), but it sure beats this horrible company. read more

I purchased a direct ticket to Williamstown Massachusetts with no stops and we have made about 7 additional stops already. There is no information about this online and I will be arriving an hour later than anticipated. Why don't you provide a list of stops along each route online? So they ended up refunding both the bus ticket and the cost of taking amtrak instead. This restores some of my faith in them but their excuse was basically that their ticketing systems do no match up so they basically leave a few spots empty on the last bus in the hopes in will not be overbooked is kind of ridiculous. I can only assume this happens all the time. Also, just last night, they overbooked the second to last bus and made everyone wait for the next one instead of sending another bus. NEVER take Peter Pan bus! We rode from Boston to New York and had no wifi or electricity to charge our phones on either trip! They gave us the wrong gate number and there was no communication when our bus was delayed! Then the bus driver pulled over 2 times, never told us why and turned around and drove in the wrong direction for 15 minutes!!!! When I contacted customer service they offered me vouchers like I would ever ride them again! When I told them this was unacceptable they didn't respond to my emails and were rude on the phone! The positive reviews here are definitely from employees. This service can be so much more. It is obvious that management think they are delivering so much more than the employees are putting out. Stating with the facilities, all filthy. The ticket agents really dont want to be there, and the drivers, some how think that they are doing you a favor by letting you in the bus. All stations lack procedural consistency, while the drivers yells at you if you dont follow his specific way of doing things. There are good things, like safety, punctuality and amenities ( power outlets and on-board internet access) Overall, not worth the hassles. I would rather fly or take Amtrack. read more

I'm really surprised by all the negative reviews about Peter Pan. These people must never have ridden a Megabus or Greyhound in their lifetimes. After experiencing those bus companies (and their unfortunate clientele) on numerous occasions, riding on Peter Pan felt like taking a luxury limo. Okay, maybe not. But still, the drivers are professional (and know how to drive), the wifi and electrical outlets almost always work, and the buses stay on schedule. Also, the higher prices (compared to other bus lines) ensure that those people you encounter on your trip will likely not be screaming on their cell phones (or their crying children) for hours on end. Sure their staff is a mixed bag (the telephone-based customer support is actually pretty good, while the online chat support is completely useless) and not all the bus stations are in the best conditions, but given the alternatives (if there are any), there's no use in me complaining. NOTE: In case you didn't realize, I am wrote this review on the Peter Pan Bus Lines company itself (since its headquarters are in Springfield). This review is not about the Springfield bus terminal, which I find downright dingy and nauseating, especially given the fact that this station could technically be considered Peter Pan's hub. read more

I use Boston-Springfield & vice versa & except for an occasional late bus, traffic & all, it runs smoothly!! When it's a Holiday they bring in extra buses to help get everyone to destination. Gets me to my daughter & grandchildren, I appreciate it!! Occasionally the electricity doesn't work, WiFi connection is decent, oh well. Nothing is perfect. My wife bought a ticket on Peter Pan at their web site 10 days in advance of her trip. But, when she got to Port Authority, she found that her bus was oversold and they would not give her a seat. It turns out that third party wrb sites can also sell tickets and Peter Pan had no idea how many tickets have been sold. They put her on another bus 1.5 hours later. When you buy a Peter Pan bus ticket you don't have a seat, only a chance for one. Your rolling the dice. read more

Peter pan is the most disappointing bus company I have ever had the "pleasure" of using. In the last few months I have taken quite a few from Storrs to New York (many of which included a few connections/bus changes), and a fair number from other random points around CT, NY and MA. 70% of the buses outlets worked, 50% of the buses were late enough for more than a few of the passengers to be disgruntled, 30% of the buses smelled like a morgue, 10% of the buses wifi did not work, and 0% of the drivers or staff had enough resolve to even say hi when greeting people, smile throughout the whole thing, or respond to anyones thank you when they left each bus. One driver in an empty bus even glared at me, closed the door and took out his phone as I was walking up, clearly looking at him ready to ask a simple question. Disgraceful, unkind, downright rubbish service. I have been infinitely more happy with the trips I have taken with greyhound, megabus, and other companies abroad. read more

Peter Pan has the worse customer service I've even been since traveling for over 25 years! I called customer service number and had to hold 22 minutes for 12 calls before me. What do they have 2-3 people? When I was down to 6 callers, the next recording said 8 callers; go figure.Then, when it got to me and they told me there was one call before me when it came time to me, the recording recycle back to 20 minutes and 13 callers.....efficient. Their web page is not much better. They list discounts for students, military, and seniors but try f entering them in their promob box. DO NOT waste your money on this bus service!!!! They have NO REGARD for their customer's time. Buses are in deplorable conditions and we waited over 50 mins for the driver to fiddle with broken outside luggage door. Driver then ushered us onto another bus that would arrive to our destination 1.5 hours (if we are lucky!) behind schedule. At no time were customers told what was happening or offered other options (i.e. Refunds due to missed travel times). We were forced to take a bus that had 3 extra stops that were not on the itinerary of the ticket we purchased. I'm only giving them one star because YELP doesn't allow me to give them 0. One day an employee broke my suitcase and didn't apologize. She lashed out at me like it was my fault. The buses smell like a port a potty. If there is an option for negative review, Peter Pan Bus line would deserve to have one. We bought two bus tickets from Springfield to NYC a month ago. When we got to the bus station, we found out that the bus was cancelled 10 days ago. We were initially told by the dispatcher that the website has announced the cancellation. When I pulled up the website on my phone and showed the dispatcher that there was no such notification, we were then told by the assistant manager McKenzie that we supposedly received an email notifying us. We then pulled up the email account from my laptop and showed them that there was no email from Peter Pan or Grey Hound over the past 10 days, including the spam box. The assistant manager McKenzie was confrontational, dismissive and unprofessional, making no effort to take responsibility and remedy the situation. If this is not the worst experience, I don't know what it is. The assistant manager McKenzie in particular deserves to be reprimanded for her behavior. read more

Words cannot describe how much I hate taking this bus. I am horrified that Peter Pan has such a monopoly over bus travel between Boston, New York, and Springfield. I've had so many bad experiences here I don't know which one to highlight. The last time I took this bus, trying to get to Amherst, MA, the bus was stuck in Holyoke, MA for 45 minutes because the driver did not know how to operate the wheelchair ramp. A loud, shrieking tone and flashing red lights were going off for half an hour before I stepped off the bus to try and help the driver, who shooed me away. He did not call his supervisor, or call another bus to come get us. We all sat on the bus in the cold while a large portion of the bus was open to the outside because of the ramp malfunction. I finally stood up and asked other passengers to share an uber. Me and 3 other college kids rode together up to Amherst. Thank god for uber. I used them another time when my bus back to Storrs, CT never showed up. "We did not dispatch the bus," they told me, and told me to go through a long process to get a refund. They did not have another bus back to Storrs until late in the evening, and I had to get back for something. Again, I asked a bunch of strangers and we got together and took an uber back to school. These buses are not dependable. If you actually have to get somewhere for something important DO NOT TAKE PETER PAN. This doesn't even cover the fact that the drivers are rude and incompetent. I've only had one nice driver. One time on my way back from Amherst, the driver took us around in circles for half an hour because he did not know how to get from Worcester to Springfield. His supervisors called him and he was yelling at them on the phone. I got so dizzy and carsick I thought I was going to vomit. Whenever I near my destination when I am on one of these filthy buses I cannot wait to get off. Every time I need to travel, I regret so much giving these crooks my money. AVOID if you can, its worth the extra couple of bucks to travel with another line or take a taxi of some kind. P.S. --- they say they have wifi and outlets, this is a lie. On Tuesday, April 30, 2019 I traveled to Boston, MA in order to attend the funeral of a love one, and schedule to returned on Wednesday the 30th. Two hours after I arrived in Boston I became very ill and was rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery. I was not able to attend the funeral and was hospitalized for 3 days. Needless to say, I was not able to return home as schedule. That Saturday, I went to the Peter Pan Bus Terminal in order to return home, and had some issues with my ticket being honor. I as told that I had to purchase another ticket, which I did. The next day I contacted Peter Pan Customer Service and explained what had occurred with the ticket agent. The customer representative was extremely attentive, sympathetic and accommodating after I explained my circumstances. The customer Rep. returned the payment for the second ticket that I had to purchase to return home. The staff at Peter Pan Bus Service emailed me twice and called to ensure that my concerns was address and to make me aware that a refund was made to my credit card, Thank you Peter Pan Customer Service for you assistance in addressing my complaint. This review is about the terminal!! Maybe with the exception of Albany this is one of the nastiest bus terminals I have ever seen! U know u r in the ghetto when all over the terminal are signs for Newport Cigarettes, it was cold, lots of sketchy people walking around inside the terminal (usually even in cities like LA where the bus terminal is in the heart of skid row, the criminals stay outside) If you could avoid having a bus change in Springfield I heavily recommend it!! read more

I booked transportation to Logan airport on 5/24 we were scheduled to depart at 5:45 but the driver hung out using his phone until almost 6:10. He then drove us to south station, NOT Logan despite that being the ticket that I and several others on the bus had purchased. When I pointed out that the destination on my ticket said Logan he replied "it's a misprint". He yanked all the luggage out of the bus and said there would be another bus in an hour and a half that could take us to the airport (where I had a flight at a scheduled time, of course) or we could take the "silver line" into the airport. Having never been to south station i had no idea what the silver line was but managed to find it (no help from the driver!). I think it's unreasonable to state one destination on the ticket purchase and then drop passengers off at a different place. Horrible customer service. I recommend finding any other route to the airport, should the need arise. If you are forced to take Peter Pan, at least be aware that they may or may not drop you there. read more

Dear Peter Pan, On April 1st I took the 10:30 pm Peter Pan from Springfield, MA to Amherst. I was appalled by the behavior of the bus driver. An elderly gentleman with obvious physical and mental disabilities entered the bus. I assume he did not have a ticket. Rather than handling it in a professional and respectful manner, the driver screamed from the front of the bus that the man should walk back up to the front. He yelled for several minutes, including statements like "How can I make it more clear?" Two of the passengers helped the elderly man to the front of the bus. The man was shaking and did not say a word. He was in no way aggressive or disruptive. He had such trouble managing the passage that he could not hold on to his pants and they fell, exposing him to the bus and humiliating him even more than the driver had already managed. The driver did not help but rather stood, watching. When the passengers assisting asked the driver for help getting the man down the stairs he responded, "He's fine. He got on the bus, he can get off." I have never been so horrified by the treatment of another human being. The actions of the driver were cruel and unprofessional. He made me feel very uncomfortable. I will not be riding the Peter Pan again. I hope that this is not the kind of behavior that Peter Pan accepts from its employees and discipline will be taken against him. I cannot believe that somebody can be so unsympathetic towards somebody without the same abilities. I can only hope that the driver never has to count on the kindness of strangers and encounters the same compassion and empathy that he showed. First of all... NEVER again!!! The bus drivers were extremely rude on a recent trip from Springfield to NYC to catch a cruise. One, when asked if we put the luggage into the under bin or if he does, simply said in disgust, "you do it" and looked the other way. My husband is a senior citizen and the "helpless" bus driver was much younger. When I got on the bus, the door was closed and locked by the bus driver who went back into the building. He did not give any information to the passengers as to what was going on. I calculated that I had some time to get a cup of coffee inside but couldn't get off the bus. I tried pushing on the door and was looking for a handle to release the door when another bus driver rushed over from the bus next to us and yelled through the closed door that he could have me arrested for touching the bus. I tried to explain what I was trying to do and he continually harassed me, saying he could have me arrested and it's a federal offense to touch the bus. He offered no help and was more intent on yelling at me and threatening my arrest than trying to help. When we made our first stop in Hartford, I asked our bus driver if I had enough time to get a cup of coffee and he simply said "the bus leaves at 8:00". I asked where the McDonald's was inside the building and he simply said "inside" look for it. He was not helpful at all and in fact I found him quite rude. While waiting in line for the return bus (NYC to Springfield), I asked the bus driver which bus was ours. He said in a rude and condescending voice the big one right in front of you...the one with the bins open. What an a__! Instead of being helpful, he was very rude and condescending. I pity visitors from Europe, Asia, Canada, and beyond. The last time I took PP to NYC, I missed my flight. It took 8 hours to go from Springfield to P.O.A. Pitiful. Sadly, these "people" movers don't really care because they have the market wrapped up. Amtrak is a small step up if you are ready to spend a ridiculous amount for a ticket with 2 or 3 departure times. It's a sad state that we are in the 21st century and that a stage coach would probably get us there faster. read more
