I can not recommend Dr. Cocolis and his team strongly enough. This middle-aged reviewer did NOT listen to dentists or take care of his teeth for far too long. (Man, did I love Coca Cola, like, a LOT). That had consequences. I was led to Dr. C *after* those, and other, consequences developed. He has kept things stable, dentally. His technicians have helped keep things clean in there. He's replaced old fillings and crowns, and has completely replaced some teeth. I've had dental... "experiences"... in the past, with *other* dental teams. Dr. C and staff are friendly while being efficient. I've had procedures explained, and nerves calmed. This past cleaning, Sophie assessed what was necessary and calmly explained each step as she took it. She had a deft, gentle touch, and was open to input (I have sensitivity issues, so she worked with me on rinse water temperature). This practice was a terrific find. I've been in the customer service/support industry for 20 years and there are two businesses that I frequently bring up in conversation when giving examples of the best customer service I've received - USAA and Dr. Cocolis's office! I've been a regular for about 2 years now and with each visit, my admiration grows. Not sure if the team is just simply that cohesive and happy or if they've undergone tremendous amounts of training. Sadly had had good experience with him prior to with several fillings that needed to be redone from another dentist. He also upsold my family member on teeth whitening who DID NOT NEED IT. I have a lot of anxiety and past trauma about dentists and doctors, and Dr. Cocolis and his dental hygienists (shout out to Annie!) do everything possible to put me at ease with their good humor, delicate touch and latest technology. Just had my first ever root canal with Dr. Sanam and it was perfect as she was an absolute pro!! First off, my general dentist in Maryland had told me that tooth #19 needed the procedure. However, after Dr. Sanam's thorough investigation, we found out that it was actually tooth #18 that needed a root canal, which saved me several hundred bucks, tons of pain, and extra trips to the dentist. Prior to the procedure, she made sure to explain step-by-step what she was going to be doing and why she would be doing it. She also did the same during the procedure and made sure to ask how I was doing every few minutes, which helped keep me calm throughout the whole process. Not only is Dr. Sanam a pro at her craft, but she's also the kindest and sweetest person you'll ever meet. All in all, I had an incredible experience and would highly recommend Dr. Sanam and this dental office to everyone. read more

I went here for a routine exam and cleaning. I was informed by the dental hygienist that as part of the exam, they would check the depth of pockets between the teeth and gums. The hygienist lightly stabbed me in the gums (or at least, that's what it felt like) on the upper-right part of my mouth using a sharp instrument. I told her that what she did hurt. She asked if it was discomfort or pain, and I told her it was painful. I allowed her to proceed with the exam and she again stabbed me in the gums, this time more painfully. I told her that she can't proceed with the exam if she is going to cause this amount of pain. She informed me that she has to do this as part of the exam. I told her that she needs to skip this part of the exam if it's going to hurt this much. She told me she would get the dentist and ask him what to do. The dentist (Dr. Cocolis) came in and got right in my face and rudely asked me "what can I do for you today?" I politely asked him not to stab me in the gums. He again, and this time more rudely, asked me "what can I do for you today?" I told him that I don't understand the question. He asked me "why are you here?" I informed him that I'm here for a routine exam and cleaning. He then, rudely, explained that as part of the exam, they have to check for gingivitis by checking the pocket depth of the gums. He started over the exam from the beginning and roughly jabbed instruments into my mouth and painfully pulled my lips apart. He rushed very quickly through the exam and at one point accidentally poked me in the nose with a dental explorer. He then said he was starting the pocket depth exam. I asked him if he can do it without stabbing me in the gums. He said he would try but that the exam is necessary and can be painful. I allowed him to proceed. He then stabbed me in the gums (or that's what it felt like he did) so hard that I almost jumped out of the chair. I pushed his hands out of my mouth and told him to stop, and I then told him that there's a certain level of pain I'm willing to tolerate, but if he can't perform the exam without exceeding this pain level, then I'll find a new dentist. He then rudely told me to leave. I've had the pocket depth exam performed many times at previous dentists, and sometimes it hurts a little but I've never experienced this amount of pain during any dental exam, EVER. I see a dentist every 6 months, my teeth and gums are in good health, and there's no reason it should have hurt at all, let alone this much. Once I informed him that the procedure was causing me pain, Dr. Cocolis did nothing to try to accommodate me or ease the pain. In fact, the third time he tried to do the exam hurt much worse than the first two times. As I type this review (almost 2 hours later), my gums are aching with pain, red, and swollen. Dr. Cocolis, from the start, was unnecessarily rude, aggressive, and confrontational. His behavior was very unprofessional. read more

I can't say enough good things about this office in general and Dr. Cocolis in particular. When I first made an appointment it was after having several really bad dental traumas, and seeing a couple people who said that they couldn't help me. One of my main issues was TMJ made complicated by hypermobility and a lot of jaw inflammation from previous problems. Dr. Cocolis was so reassuring and over the course of several months has walked me through a process that has completely allowed my jaw to relax and my bite to be corrected. I was in so much pain for years, and I am finally seeing that pain disappear. I also have a history of being really hard to fully numb for dental procedures, and he very patiently figured out which nerves were still causing me pain. And the procedure itself was the fastest and most precise I have ever experienced! I highly recommend Dr. Cocolis, especially for compassionate care when you have a complicated issue. read more

I have been with my dentist located in Falls Church since I was a preteen (over 20yrs). He was/is great. But I wanted my family to be under one practice and moving further south (Prince William) it was a hard commute. In the DMV area there are many dentists to choose from. I was referred to Dr. Cocolis and was timid about transferring to another dentist. But again, having my own family and wanting us all to be under one practice, I thought let me give Dr. C a try and I scheduled my daughters first dental appt. She was 4yrs old. From the time we walked in, to the time we said good-bye I have never felt more welcomed and comfortable. My daughter is now 6yrs and I have transferred not only myself, but now my husband to Dr. C. And trying to get my mom too! The ENTIRE STAFF is amazingly friendly, knowledgeable and confident with the level of service provided to each of their patients. Dr C is my mom's dentist. I had a long term issue with a molar that no dentist could properly resolve resulting in about 6 years of pain (it took me a while to save up for the proceedures recommended by my dentists I should have done). The basis of the problem was an untreated cavity during childhood followed by that same tooth being cracked when my wisdom teeth came out later. No dentist believed me when I told them it was cracked. They insisted on saving the tooth. They put a crown on it then a couple years later performed a root canal. After the rc my tooth was never 100% but it felt about 70% better until one year later where I could not eat on that side. I went back to my dentist and insisted they remove the tooth. Instead they told me to go see the specialist who did my rc to check it. I went and voiced my concerns. The specialist gave me some options (antibiotic in case there was an infection although he doubted it was that. He told me to stop grinding my teeth and clenching on my jaw which I sometimes do) ultimately he said if I'm still in pain that I would have to come back and he would have to go back in and check the rc. I thanked him for his time and went to get a different opinion. I came to Dr. C and told him my history with my tooth and told him I was done being in pain and asked him to pull it out. He looked at my mouth and realized my bite was off and my original crown was pretty beat up. Like most dentists, he didn't want to remove the tooth at first. He suggested a temporary crown with a proper bite for my mouth. He said if in about 3 weeks I was still not pain free, he would pull my tooth because it was most likely cracked. 3 weeks went by with some relief but still some pain. I wasn't going to pay for another crown only to be back in 2-4 years. I had him remove my tooth. When he inspected my tooth he saw the crack. I cried because finally a dentist listened to me and wasn't solely after my pocket. I was very pleased with Dr. C and his staff. I'm only sad that I found him so close to when I moved out of the area. I'm so happy now and pain free :) read more

My family and I have been to many different dentists over the years. The staff at this office has been consistently friendly and the waiting has not been an issue. We were pleasantly surprised until over the years (5), we started to notice a trend in having cavities. I have had 2 cavities my entire life and began having regular cavities every visit. One or two at a time. I just figured I was older and that's what happens. However, we also switched my two children here since I was having such a positive experience. After a while the number of cavities detected (all "small") started to become routine for them as well. One child had 4 "small" cavities filled and then was noted to have another 4 at the next visit. Before I had them filled went for a second opinion where we were told this child did not have ANY cavities!!! We immediately switched dentists and have not had a cavity since between all 3 of us. I completely agree with allot of what was said in Dr. C's strong reviews. Their presentation, cleanliness and friendliness is very impressive. I have referred a lot of people their way in the past. My biggest issue and reason for a low rating is trust. I have traveled a lot and have had to use many different dentists. My first cavity was found and filled when I was 23 on my first visit to Dr. C. I didn't question it at all. Over the next 3 years at least 4 more cavities were found in his office. I began to question why there was such a dramatic change in the health of my teeth. I had been maintaining my teeth the same as I had for the first 23 years of my life yet now a filling was almost a expectation I had to have for every visit. Suspision was at a peak last year during my final visit to Dr. C's office when yet again I was told I had a cavity. A week later I went to get a second opinion at a new office. They could not find anything even when I pointed to the spot where I was told there was a cavity. I did not tell them of my suspicion. I have gone to the new dentist 2 times and have been cavity free "knock on wood". I really enjoyed Dr. C's office. Everyone was so friendly which makes it harder for me to write this review. I may be paranoid and wrong but I can't help wondering if I was scammed and pitched unnecessary filings for extra cash. I hope I'm wrong but none the less my trust has been withdrawn. read more

My family and I have been seeing Peter Cocolis for over 16 years and couldn't be happier. Peter and his staff are not only professional and courteous, but they also employ the very latest in technology available in dentistry. When I first met Dr. C, we lived around the corner from his office in Burke/Springfield. A couple years later, we moved to the western part of the county near Dulles, but still make the drive to Burke, because I cannot imaging trusting anyone else with our dental needs. His beside manner is superb - he is so easy and fun to talk to, and puts you at ease from the very start. I am most impressed with how he works with our two young children - he talks to them, explains what he's doing, and makes a dentist visit actually fun for them, if you can imagine! For a short time I took them to a pediatric dentist closer to home, but after one visit I knew it was worth it to drive 30 minutes to see Dr. Cocolis in stead. Over the years, he has cared for my husband's (nearly perfect) teeth, as well my (very far from perfect) teeth. The emergency number for his office is a cell phone that the doctor answers himself - who else does that?? Highly recommended, by a patient who has had root canals, Invisalign and everything in between with Dr. Cocolis. He is the absolute best in the business! read more

I am not a dentist's dream- just saying. I feel true fear when I have to go to see "the dentist" and really do hate it. Yesterday I went in to have two cavities filled. Before the procedure, I expressed this to him. Dr. Cololis handles rejection of love very well. He is patient and understanding. I still don't like going to the dentist, but Dr. Cololis does everything within his power to make me feel less panicked and has the ability to quell a lot of my anxiety. He is confident and competent. I am not sure he will ever get me to a state in which I love going to see the dentist, but I do love going to see him. If only I could give Dr. Cocolis 6 stars.... I have been bringing my son here for over 10 years, and my husband and I just switched to their office this year as well (our old practice became too rushed and felt like a production line). Our son had had some dental trauma when he was very little, and Dr. Cocolis was the first dentist he was completely at ease with. Not really sure why my husband and I waited so long to switch- but I really regret not doing it sooner! I just had my first exam, cleaning and xrays, and I have to say- I've never had a more thorough cleaning and appointment. They allowed two hours for it (which they told me ahead of time), and both the hygienist and Dr. Cocolis really took their time with what they were doing and explained everything as they went. They went over my health history, checked for oral cancer, checked lymph nodes, checked my jaw, measured the depth of the gum pockets (very gently, I might add!), xrayed, scaled, cleaned, polished and examined.My teeth have honestly never looked or felt this clean! I did have 3 cavities, one of which I knew about from the previous practice I had gone to. He gave me multiple options for treatment, explained them all in detail- and the staff at the front desk requested estimates from my insurance for each option. This practice obviously keeps up with technology, has fantastic communication, and most importantly- takes meticulous care of their patients. Cannot recommend highly enough. read more
