Dr. Fox missed a cracked tooth resulting in me now needing a root canal. I began having temperature sensitivity to cold in one of my molars. I called to get an exam with Dr. Fox, my regular dentist. I reiterated to him that I grind my teeth. This is an important point because while I did not know I could crack a tooth by grinding, a dentist should take that into consideration and do a through exam to rule out a cracked tooth. Dr. Fox did not do this. He looked at my x-rays, then looked around my mouth (5 minutes tops) and stated nothing was wrong. I now know there are multiple methods to detect a cracked tooth which Dr. Fox did not perform. A couple of months passed and my symptoms slowly got worse. By week 10 my molar was not only sensitive to cold but also hot. I was told by my new dentist this is a sign of nerve involvement. I also developed a sensitivity to pressure resulting in having to avoid chewing on that side. I consulted Yelp at this point and choose the dentist with the most positive reviews. I found Dr. Fox on Yelp also but chose him because he takes my insurance and is ten minutes from my house. I visited my new dentist and this time the exam was totally different. Prior to x-rays the dentist spent a good 20-25 minutes examining my teeth and gums and asking questions. She palpated my gums, applied pressure to them and my teeth, gently tapped my teeth in the affected area, and then applied cold to specific areas of my teeth to pinpoint the exact tooth having the problem. Dr. Fox did none of these things. He primarily referred to my x-ways and stated everything was normal. My new dentist looked at my x-rays and found a questionable area at the root of the problem tooth. The final diagnosis was a cracked tooth with nerve involvement. She stated that the heat sensitivity and lingering pain with pressure & tapping indicated the pulp had become inflamed. Note I did not have these last two symptoms when I saw Dr. Fox. So at that time my tooth was cracked but the nerve was okay. I received a temporary crown on Friday. I was hoping my pain would go away with just the crown, which would indicate the nerve was fine. It has not so it looks like I will need a root canal prior to receiving my permanent crown. In conclusion, the reason I need a root canal is because Dr. Fox did not do a through exam which would have identified a cracked tooth as my issue. Instead, I left his office without treatment resulting in the nerve becoming inflamed after weeks of irritation. read more

When moving to the area, we were looking for a family dentist that could see our entire family, including our toddler. Fox seemed to fit that requirement, but we have had nothing but logistical issues with the office since with examples below. TLDR: I have been hesitant about leaving a review given all the other positive reviews and thinking my family's experiences were isolated, but getting charged almost $200 for a toddler cleaning and having a line item on the invoice stating an upcharge for not having insurance led me here. -It is very difficult to schedule an appointment. If you are able to get someone on the phone, appointments are only available 7+ months out unless you get a phone call day of for an opening -Billing, especially for younger patients, is not transparent and Fox charges more for their services for patients that do not have insurance. We received an invoice about a year after the 2nd service for our toddler that never had dental insurance. The 1st billing was reasonable and quick while the 2nd was delayed and included an additional ~$60 fee for not having insurance. -When filling out the new patient documentation, we filled out everything online ahead of our first appointment. When going in for the first appointments, we needed to fill out everything manually again and we were not provided answers as to where our personal information online went as Fox was not able to find it. -Not sure how often this occurs, but for my visit, the technician providing my cleaning was a temp employee and the cleaning took much longer than it should have as they did not know where various tools were. This was on top of being called back ~15 minutes after my original appointment time. read more

Where to begin, I have not seen a dentist in three years after relocating here from CA. Hands down this was the best dental appointment I've ever experienced. No up sell, No pressure and a calm environment. Ashley, RDH explained thoroughly and was extremely patient with me during my X-rays as I have a bad gag reflex. Dr. Eric was super sweet, well mannered and not rushed. I've had really horrible dental experiences in the area and decided to try fox family dentistry today and they are the first dentist that didn't have me in tears. I went in at 9am to have a possible abscess checked and to my surprise it wasn't an abscess, I saw Dr. Ahmed and he was really nice and helped calm my anxiety. I came back at 11 for a cleaning and the hygienist, Naida was the sweetest hygienist I've ever had. This is my first time writing a Yelp review but I had to share with others my amazing experience with the Fox Family Dentistry. I chipped what I thought to be a veneer but was informed by Dr. Larry as a crown when biting on my acrylic nail. I didn't know what to do or to whom to consider for a repair since the original dentist who installed my "crowns" had since retired. I believe for at least two years (partially because of COVID), was walking around with this chipped crowned front tooth for far too long. I finally found the courage to ask my kids' orthodontist staff who they recommended and it was the Fox Family Dentistry. I made the appointment and to my surprise, they did not disappoint. The entire staff was very professional and friendly. They took the time to hear my concerns and proposed various solutions for me to consider. Dr. Larry provided me with the pros and cons of each solution as well. I found this so reassuring because I was given the full picture with him. I felt like he didn't try to sugarcoat anything in his descriptions of the various alternatives. I was so very pleased with my selection and the outcome of my chipped tooth. I couldn't believe I had waited so long to resolve something that was so easily repaired. I wasted so much time walking around with this chipped tooth! This was my first dentist visit in the NOVA area (we recently relocated to VA from MI). I've been here twice now, and both visits have been very positive experiences. Let me start off by saying I do not enjoy going to the dentist, I definitely have a little anxiety related to any dental procedure. I broke a molar and knew I would need a repair. I went to Fox Family Dentistry in Springfield. After an exam and some X-rays it was determined I would need a crown & root canal to fix this molar. I came back a few days later & Dr Ahmed did the procedure. He was patient and made sure the local anesthetic was super effective before starting. He was awesome at explaining everything he was doing. Everything went smoothly and I would imagine it was as painless as one could possibly make a root canal. A few weeks later I came back to get the permanent crown placed, Dr. Erik placed it. This was a quick process, but Dr Erik was very friendly during this interaction! I also want to give a shout out to the receptionists & dental hygienists! I wish I would have gotten their names, but they are also largely a part of the 5 star rating.
