Ordered screened loam from Peter Breen to fix lawn erosion in June. Paid $50 per yard for their compost blend, it was delivered on schedule. Couldn't see at first because the loam was dark, but after it was spread all over the lawn and started to dry out you could see lots of chards of glass and pieces of broken beer bottles. Also had lots of sticks and rocks. We have a swimming pool, we're frequently barefoot in the yard and it's a miracle that no one including the dogs, have cut their foot open. If you're looking for landscaping needs, firewood, or mulch, Peter Breen is where it's at. I've used them 4x now to deliver firewood, 100% happy. Called for mulch and had 6yds in my driveway about an hour later. That wasn't enough, and had another 6yds there same day within an hour or so. Finally, last week they assisted me with putting down 4,000sqft of new sod. They had to strip about half that much from what was left of the existing yard that wasn't damaged during a patio install, regraded using another few yards of loam, and then the sod. Bought loam from them earlier this year. They had the HIGHEST PRICE AROUND and the loam was the POOREST QUALITY AROUND! The loam had mostly bark mulch in it and would not grow a weed, never mind a lawn!!! read more

I didn't even get a service from this guy and I'm still rating it a one star. I called for some landscaping needs and I think the number provided just goes to a personal cell phone as the guy just answered "hello" as opposed to whatever landscaping etc. Whomever I spoke to (assuming Peter) was simply short and rude like I was bothering him and wasting his time which I should've taken for a sign but let it slide because I needed this done ASAP. He said he would come that day - I waited all day and he was a no call no show. I get a phone call a week later saying "i'm returning your phone call, what do you want?" He didn't even mention about the previous issue - no apology or explanation. I wasn't able to get a landscaper with available time so again I took the chance and agreed on him coming that day. Again no call no show and another wasted day of me waiting. Poor business social skills plus two wasted days with no call no show = 1 star. Onto find someone else. read more

My experience with Peter Breen goes back a number of years but it is the reason I would never do business with the company again - no matter the price. I had mulch delivered to my house. A teenager delivered the mulch in a huge dump truck without paying attention to lifting the bed and cracking some significantly large limbs on the oak tree over the driveway. Accidents happen, right? My concern was that these large limbs would crack under the weight of snow in the winter and end up on my car. A call to Peter was met with no concern, but with comment that he would get back to me the next day. Follow up calls resulted in no action. A simple fix, particularly for a landscape company would have been to trim the limbs so that there would not be an issue later on. No apology, no follow-up, no customer service. read more

I have used Peter Breen for Mulch for years. I have always been impressed with his prompt delivery. I had seen he did excavations also so when I went to do my detached garage I got a quote from him. It was literally half the price of another quote I got. I could not be happier with the job they did. I had a challenging lot - lots of grading to be corrected and a very small space to work in. He stuck to his quote, had great input on ways to make my plan better, and fast efficient work. Plus all of his employees are very nice. Through this process I have gotten to know Peter. He comes across as a little gruff on the phone but I have come to realize he is a softy with a great work ethic. More to the point all of his employees talk about how honest he is and how good he is to work for. Honestly that is probably a more important endorsement than mine. I purchased 20+ yards of red hemlock mulch from him 2 years ago. I hired someone to spread it for me so it wasn't until after it was installed that I was able to see it. And what a surprise! The much was pine that had been sprayed red. He charged me the premium price and delivered the cheapest product. No refund, no apologies. All he offered was to send someone out once a month to turn the mulch over. I will never do business with him again. This guy is not interested in repeat business from a satisfied customer. We have used Peter Breen for a number of years. We called Peter this morning for a load of 4 yards of mulch. Was delivered within a couple of hours. My wife called me at work and said she was worried that it was not 4 yards. When I got home I too questioned the amount. It honestly did not look like 4 yards. I called Peter right away and he said they had sent 4 yards, BUT, he would send another 2 yards over to us right away. Within 15 minutes of my call his son and the truck were dumping an additional 2 yards...we offered to pay Peter for the 2 additional yards, but they refused to take our money. We will definitely keep track of the yardage and plan to repay Peter for any overage he sent. But the reason for this YELP Review is to say - he's a good guy, a great local business and we certainly appreciate his concern and responsiveness and his trying to "make things right." read more

Peter Breen recently completed a major lawn overhaul for us....removed grass and topsoil, graded entire lot, put down loam, grass seed, etc.. It's been a little over a month now and the lawn is coming in beautifully. The work was guaranteed and true to his word, he backed up that guarantee. When we called with questions re some bare spots and concerns re heavy rain having washed away seed, he came out to take a look and they immediately remedied the situation. They put down some additional loam, reseeded and raked it out. It is really amazing to see the difference between our new, beautiful thick green lawn, and our neighbors crab grass ridden lawn. The grading has drastically improved the water seepage in our basement as has the block retaining wall (not sure how else to refer to it) they built around our basement walk-out. The later was a HUGE improvement. I could go on and on with other fixes and improvements made but suffice it to say that they are extremely hard working - responsive - easy to work with, etc. One of his guys, Franny (not sure I'm spelling that correctly), not only built that wall around the walkout, and did a beautiful job on it, but he also installed a new walkway from our driveway up to an existing walkway. We are beyond thrilled with it......another massive improvement beautifully done. The price was fair and they were totally accommodating when it came to additional smaller add-ons that we requested such as stump removal (oh yeah, Peter recommended a fantastic tree service - Levesque wood company - who we were equally thrilled with), and removal and disposal of an old shed. We won't hesitate to use Peter Breen again and highly recommend them to anyone looking for a solid, reliable, high quality, full service landscaper. read more
