Location is super convenient, selection is great, staff not so much. I asked the lady checking me out if they had any bulk tennis balls, she pointed at the single and small packs at the counter (which were ridiculously expensive). I asked again, if they had any bulk anywhere in the store. She said this is all we have. I put my purchases aside and went to look myself. I found a large selection of bulk tennis balls wat cheaper, per unit, then the ones at the counter. I don't think she was trying to up sale me, I think she was just ill-informed. Not sure why this location has such bad reviews, as I actually enjoy this over Petsmart and this is the only one around my area. My sister worked for Petco a long time ago and she always had so many nice things to say about them being her employer. They offer everything for any pet and very healthy options. So we decided to take my 2 dogs here so they could get their shots that they needed. My dad arrived before me and the rest of my family with our German shepherd and his experience was terrible. We have a German shepherd and a Shih tzu. Our German shepherd was TURNED AWAY because the so called "vet" was afraid of her. I'm sorry, but you're a vet?! This is your job! Our Shih tzu was luckily able to get his shots. I don't know, extremely upset and disappointed at the dog discrimination. In case anyone was wondering, no our German shepherd wasn't being threatening. She wasn't growling or snapping or trying to bite. She barked a little? But there were other dogs barking to, she wasn't barking all on her own. Will not be returning. read more

Don't book your grooming appointments at the Petco in Woodbury, MN. I don't post reviews very often, this is in fact only my 2nd review ever for any company I have dealt with and the last was super positive. I am not a complainer. I understand retail is challenging and things happen but this place is terrible. However, I have booked 2 separate appointments, a few months apart, and both times, after I put my dog in the car and drove there, they told me they had to cancel because none of their groomers showed up. Clearly they need a new grooming manager! I know there are staffing issues all over these days, but nobody showing up tells me it is a manager problem. My biggest problem with this is not the cancellation but the fact that they didn't call me and tell me. I had to risk my dog's safety putting her in the car, I was recently involved in a car accident where if she had been in the car with me she definitely would have been injured. The accident was not my fault, but I am very leary of even putting her in the car now. And even going into the store causes her high anxiety, and then we were told to leave. I would still never go there again because of the 2 cancellations, but the fact that they didn't even try to notify me ahead of time, and again, I risked my dog's life, I cannot accept that business practice. If they don't want/need my business, then fine, they will never see us again. So today, we are going to PetSmart who was astounded that I felt the need to call ahead and confirm. She was like, yes, of course, you are scheduled and we are ready. read more

There was a sickly Guinea pig and when I asked management about her and said that no one would pay that much for a Guinea pig in that condition my husband and I would be happy to rescue her and bond her with our other guinea pig and nurse her back to health. the manager I spoke with was not helpful in the fact and he just said that there was protocols for that and that they don't do anything else beside follow protocol. If I hadn't gotten such great help from the guy who helped me find dog food, I would have rated this a 1 star. When I left the store I called about an hour later to see if I was overcharged because I mistakenly didn't take my receipt. I called and was transferred and disconnected. I called back and was transferred again and a very rude girl picked up and said "I was about to walk out but I guess I'll deal with this". I politely said I'd be happy to talk to someone who is actually interested in helping me. To that she said "I'm on my way to see my kids. But whatever they can wait.". I used to love Petco. Thom at the Woodbury location is fantastic and my dog and I will truly, truly miss him. She even kept into his arms the last time she saw him. However, they have now lost a long-time customer. The grooming department just refused to groom my dog because she had been to the vet the same day. I specifically checked with my vet to see if she could be groomed the same day. She said a spa day sounded great and if she had no reaction within an hour all would be fine. Petco has not put me in a bind as she needed to be groomed today because someone was going to be in close proximity who is bothered by allergies. The pup was even scheduled to get the extra brushing furminator treatment to take more precautions. They refused to talk to my vet to confirm. I give this place zero stars. I give Thom 5+ stars. He should run his own pet store. read more

Turned my dog away (Woodbury, MN location) because of a new policy stating Petco no longer accepts appointments for dogs with diabetes/taking insulin. While I think the policy is stupid, its their policy. Problem is we didn't know that until we arrived and said that info wasn't in his file or they would've called ahead. He's had diabetes for almost 5 years and, while we moved and haven't been to this location in 2+ years, I had MANY conversations with groomers in the past about his diabetes, minor skin issues to watch out for, put down Vetsulin for meds for every check-in paperwork in the past, etc. Do better next time. read more

I want to THANK the Tom Manager and staff at the Woodbury Petco. I was extremely pleased with the time and effort Tom the Manager took to help us with a behavior challenge from a new rescue dog. From a anxiety causing situation Tom showed us step by step how to solve the problem. He listened and instructed patiently while we learned. This was a spontaneous stop to the store to receive guidance on the best kind of collar to help. I would highly recommend this particular location. I was debating between 2 and 3 stars, and decided to round up since I have worked in customer service. However, last time I brought my dogs in (been going here for about a year) they said they could not find any of my information and could cut my Great Danes nails... She said that they had no record of my stuff at all, and that they could not help me unless I were to go get all of their vet stuff etc. which I did not have time to do. We went in to buy an aquarium for our son's room on Friday March 15th. The lady that helped us was friendly, knowledgeable, and overall helpful. She told ya what kind of water to buy so we could put fish in without waiting a week to make our tap water safe. We went back in on Sunday the 17th to get fish and the lady (whom I didn't catch her name but she had a Mohawk) tested our water, told us it was perfect, then said we needed to wait at least a week. When I told her what the other lady said she said "well I waited a month before putting fish in mine". I was just frustrated that I purchased water to get it rolling faster and I was told to wait the week anyway. She was a little condescending about it but whatever, I want my fish to survive. So today, March 21st I went in there hoping the First Lady was working but no luck, it's the same lady with the mohawk. We waited over 20 minutes in the fish department and nobody even looked at us. For the first 10 minutes she was helping someone else, which I get, but then she wasted another 10+ minutes standing by the register while they checked out and went out to the car with them to help them load. Their were plenty of other employees that could have helped them load their purchase into the car, especially if she was the only "qualified" person in the fish department. Bottom line, we will be purchasing our fish for our aquarium elsewhere. It's a shame really, the first lady was great but the other one ruined it. read more

We attended a puppy training class. We were very happy with Thom. Very knowledgeable, both on the basic commands, and other issues like counter surfing. The small class sizes means lots of individual attention. This is a store, so there are plenty of opportunities for distraction training. read more

I love the groomer(s) at Petco in Woodbury. I can't recall the woman's name who took care of me today, but she has tattoos and is awesome. She's very knowledgeable about all things dog - goes above and beyond to provide helpful information. I got my dog's nails trimmed today and she went ahead and brushed her Australian Shepherd double coat out with her fancy brush, free of charge. I appreciated it so much. No hellos, No help service, and when i was leaving I didnt feel so satisfied with my purchases (assuring me to come back or if i needed to exchange). 3 workers saw me trying to figure out which item to buy but didnt encourage me or even approach. Picked up two ferrets Monday night. Older, larger one was active and spry as ferrets should be. The other one was lethargic, never drank his water, got bloat, and died in our arms Tuesday night. We brought him in to the store and the manager insisted he had been looked over and approved healthy by their store vet. Claimed he had a seven day treatment for diarrhea and was sent into the floor. They never ran tests to see if his digestive issues had ever been healed. We got a "sorry this happened, but this is the first ferret this store has ever lost" and "would you like us to let you know when we get more ferrets in" and that's it. They don't care that they're the ones in direct cause of an animal's death or that we are in grief over losing such a sweet pet. read more

Worst customer service... I scheduled a grooming appointment to have my dog fully groomed. We dropped him off and shopped for a while with in 10 minutes of me leaving the store grooming called to tell me my dog was lethargic and needed medical attention immediately and it was not safe to groom him. Much to my surprise i rushed there within 2 min and wanted to see my dog and speak to a manager. I have a beautiful calm white English golden retriever. They are bred to be family dogs they are not crazy hyper he's very mellow and just loves to cuddle. The manger stated he pulled my dog out of the kennel and my dog wouldn't respond not was his tail. I wanted the groomer to prove this to me and they couldn't. They pulled super happy golden out of a kennel... Tail wagging and all and still refused service. I will never step foot in that store again. Not to mention as i left, the groomer was snotty snickered and said you have a fantastic day. So you lost my business my family's business and I'll continue to tell everyone my story and let them know how horrible Petco in Woodbury treats customers. Luckily another groomer was happy to help us that day for cheaper. Weird they said they had no issues he was not lethargic and didn't feel he needed medical attention. read more

I was a first time customer of Petco grooming a few months ago. I called to make an appt for my 2 cats to get their nails trimmed. Nothing was ever mentioned about needing proof of vaccinations over the phone even though I spoke to the grooming dept several times before bringing them in. After placing my cats in their carriers and bringing them up, I was refused because I did not have proof of vaccinations. After having to reschedule, I finally get their nails trimmed after bringing in proof. Fast forward to today. I had made an appt and spoke with the grooming front desk. I was going to bring in my cat for a grooming. Never, on the phone did they mention the vaccination records were now expired. I bring my Olive up to the store only to be refused. Customer service is anticipating the needs of the customer. They NEVER mentioned needing anything when I called them on the phone and again, we talked several times before I brought her in. My poor cat is stressed from being shuffled in and out of a car because the front desk did not tell me ahead of time that this would be needed or required. I will never go back, I did talk to a manager, Nancy who was very apologetic and tried to make it right, but I won't go back. read more

Terrible service in the grooming department. Called to get an appointment for my two dogs. Was told if we brought them in at 130 they could fit us in. Called at 330 to see if they were almost done and was told that one of them just got out of the bath (this is a jack Russell so I didn't understand how is bath took two hours) and the other was just going in. The groomer on the other end in a very rude tone said that they were busy and wouldn't have the dogs done until 6pm and would just call us when they were ready. When we dropped them off at 130 none of this was mentioned. We were under the impression that if you drop your dog off at 130 your dog would be groomed at that time. Never again!! I went to this petstore planning on purchasing a couple more fish for my tank. Being the animal lover I am, I looked around the store. What I found disgusted me. They had at LEAST 8 ferrets together in only about a medium sized glass tank. They had to walk on each other to get around. Over in the rodent section I was looking at dwarf hamsters when I noticed one was stuck underneath a flying saucer for them to run on. Making sure it was indeed stuck, (it was jumping up and down making the saucer move only slightly up and down, and then would stick its nose through an extremely small crack. I also have gerbils who periodically get stuck and you need to let them out) I went to a worker and told them that it was stuck and needed to be moved and he denied that it was stuck and claimed that it wanted to be down there! I was fuming but didn't push it. Then I went over to the fish. There were loads of them dead in the bottom of almost all their tanks and I understand that fish die a lot but could they have at least disposed of them before opening the store? It was ridiculous and I left without buying anything. I refuse to give my business to a company who mistreats the one thing they should be taking care of the most. If you want bad service, and abused animals I urge you, go to Petsmart in Woodbury. read more
