The review I wrote on their site was removed. Which is why I am posting here. This was for the White Bear Lake location.
After looking through many spas for my 10 yr old shepherd mix whom has never had a professional grooming, I settled on Haute Dog Spa, because they had ALL good reviews. I talked at length with the owner (Erica) before booking, so she understood my concerns for my dog since he had never done this. I explained he doesn't mind being brushed but is a little hesitant about the hind end area which I asked for it not to be brushed but simply cut back. He has long hair. I said I would bring a muzzle if needed. But I also explained he had been to the Vet 2 mos. earlier for surgery on his foot and when I brought him in with a muzzle, they would return him without, saying "he didn't need it, he was great". Erica explained it would about 3 hrs with Bath, grooming, blowout. I dropped him off at 9:55 AM Talked a couple minutes reminding her to please be gentle and patient with him because of his age and his 1st time.
At 10:19 AM I got a call as I walked in my house. They said "Toby hit his head hard in the tub and has a "scratch" above his eye, it's not bleeding though" They said they wanted to "be upfront with me". They also said, "he wouldn't walk up the ramp to the tub, so we picked him up and put him in the tub".
At 10:36 AM they called again, this time they say "he is doing an alligator roll in the tub, letting us know he doesn't like this, we muzzled him too, and we are "calling it", you need to pick him up, and understand he is very wet, actually soaking wet". I asked if they tried to dry him, and they replied "he wouldn't allow us to blow dry him". I asked did you try and towel dry him? and they replied "he wouldn't let us". Please understand.....this dog when he comes in the house if he has even a little rain on his back or snow, he stops short on the rug and waits for me to towel dry him. If I don't reach for the towel, he goes to the towel and looks at me with "gonna dry me off?"
Keep in mind....All this happened within 34 minutes of me dropping him off!! What DIDN"T happen was they were NOT patient with my senior dog, they were not gentle. They didn't give him a change to try the ramp and be patient. They simply picked him up and turned on the water spraying him while he was already stressed at being manhandled. When I had asked them how he could have a "scratch" on his head inside a tub, they said "they didn't know". They muzzled him right away I believe making him feel fear from them. I also believe they dropped him as he is limping and was afraid to use my stairs inside my home and looked like he is in pain. His "scratch" is a GASH!!! Down to the meat!! I treated it with an antibiotic. He was soaking wet as they said and the temp outside was in the teens. This December 1st 2022. Though they didn't charge me, Erica did say "well at least he got a bath and smells good".
My Toby barely made in to the house, where I towel dried him and used a blow dryer on him for a few minutes. He laid next to me in my home office and slept a solid 3 hours! When it was time to go outside before bedtime, I had to coax him as he was afraid to use the stairs because he was in pain.
I would NEVER recommend this Spa for Dogs/Cats etc. Also, I offered to stay and help them with his grooming so I could help him not be afraid, they refused to allow this.
I entered my review on their site, and though it showed on my end, when I had family members look it up, it didn't show. They either have it set up to not accept reviews less than 5 stars or they removed, but allow me to still see it so I think it's there. I made my decision based on a place that had only good reviews, well I know now why that is!!!
I also posted pics of my Toby and though they removed my written review, they forgot about my pics of my dog. The pics show his gash and how wet he still was after I towel dried him and blew him out a couple minutes. The pics are still there. They either can't remove them, or didn't realize I have them posted with their pics.
I felt just heartsick that I put my poor dog through this nightmare. When I think of all that happened in only 34 minutes....there is NO WAY any sort of patience and gentle treatment was used. read more
