Every time I have to stop at this store I leave with the most visceral annoyance. Let me start from the beginning with some context: 1.) My dog has significant digestive issues related to protein. He is required to be on Hydrolyzed Protein as it is easier to break down. This food requires a prescription for reasons unknown to me, and costs $150 per bag. Maplewood is one of few locations that have his food, so I am forced to stop here frequently. 2.) Because his food requires a prescription, I have to have Banfield create a mini prescription card before I can check out with his food. Most recently, I stopped into the store for food and when I went to check out the cashier stated that the prescription card was expired. It had been expired for five months, but apparently that wasn't an issue until right then. So, I get out of the line I had waited in, go to the Banfield counter (wait in line again), get the card replaced for what seems like the 75th time, and after they explained it expires once a year, I looked at the card and realized it actually expires every six months. Fine. I take the card, wait in line again, and the cashier is finally able to check me out. During my checkout (at which point I want nothing more than to exit the store) the cashier randomly starts telling me about how her mom got her two kittens and she is going out of her way to feed them well so that they "never have to eat this food." To me, this implies that I am feeding my dog prescription food because I somehow created this protein deficiency he's had since birth...? All of this to say - a trip that should take five minutes almost always ends up taking twenty. Despite having Banfield inside several PetSmart locations, they haven't incorporated any way for their staff to pull prescriptions. In my opinion, PetSmart isn't and has never been concerned about the customer experience. If you don't have to go to this location or a PetSmart in general, I wouldn't. read more

One word: RACIST! They refused service for my 6-year-old Shih Tzu. I was told he wouldn't allow the groomer to touch his face, and then I was told to have a vet shave his face before they would groom him. This was after one of the ladies told me she didn't want to use her clippers on him. Mind you, he's been going to another PetSmart location since he was 1. I then went to the Banfield hospital inside the store where my dog is a client. I explained everything to the vet there. My Shih Tzu was seen within the hour. Not only did they give him a medical shave, but I also had them give him his two shots that would be needed in the next two months. I also had his heartworm prevention medication done. Everything cost over $1,000. After picking up my pet from Banfield around 4, I walked back inside the grooming department hoping to schedule my Shih Tzu for a later date. The lady then told me no one there felt comfortable grooming my Shih Tzu at a later time. I was told everyone had agreed they didn't want to service him--just a total refusal. I was livid after spending over $1,000 and being told this, especially after I was instructed to have a vet shave his face before returning for grooming. My guess is they are Trump supporters, enforcing the order he signed allowing them to refuse service. Very friendly staff, went to get my dogs pedicure. (no appointment needed, which is really nice). I like taking my dog here, the groomers remember who he is each time I come in. Very welcoming and good to him. Also at the cash registers they normally give dogs treats which is super sweet. Took about 10 minutes and $22. overall this location is very friendly and WARMING. Love seeing people bring their pets in. read more

THIS IS NOT A REVIEW ABOUT THIS STORE! THIS REVIEW IS ABOUT THE PETSMART CORPORATION AS A WHOLE. I sat on my phone for a good 45 minutes this evening, trying to order my $85 worth of pet supplies (minus the prescription diet at $60 a bag), online for the 15% off that was to be taken off the total, for ordering online. and the app & website, WOULD NOT WORK. I put in 2 seperate types of payment and nothing (tried several months ago as well with the same outcome), so I went to the Maplewood store. At checkout I spoke to a manager which gave me corporates phone number. I was warned that there would not be much that they could ( I say would) do. It is Petsmart's app, and they have no control over it? Not wise. So I called, the 888 number, and all they could say was that I needed to call my bank (and credit card company I guess), to verify that I, and the bank, have exactly the same mailing address, right down to every letter and dot...seriously? I have never had a problem purchasing ANYthing online. I was not offered the 15% off, and they never even asked for my name, treats number or any identifying information! I will drive out of my way for my pet supplies from now on. I spend too much money, for the company to refuse to try to rectify this issue. My dog died in their care! I took my senior adopted dog (Bichon Frise) there to be groomed. The manager called me to ask that I meet them at the emergency vet in Oakdale. The dog had become so stressed during the grooming experience that blood started coming from her butt. She was dead by the time I got to see her at the vet. The store manager apologized, sent a card, and a gift, but I would rather just have the dog. Beware- this is not a place for rescue dogs or nervous dogs! read more

We took our dog today to this petsmart since we moved from Shoreview. Our dog for years was groomed at the Roseville Mn Petsmart with no problem , Today,s appt was at 12:30 dropped him off at about 12:15 at 12:50 got a call that he was ok but stressed out that he pooped and voided and we need to come and get him.So went to get him they cut hair on his body but face not cut,legs not done nails not done looked worst then when we took him. The girl told me we are not going to charge you for what we did .I called Roseville Petsmart and got to talk to one of girls that would do him and told her what happened said he was never stressed out in all the years they had him. I feel like I was insulted and called a liar indirectly on two different fronts today by someone appearing no older than my great grandchildren... at the maplewood location and I am fuming about it. That being said... it probably isn't the greatest time to make any comments but who knows how many people are treated like that on any given day. In the grooming Solon I was told there was a hold on "my account". My question was how can there be a hold when you get the nails clipped and show your receipt. They told me they don't ask for receipts.... but I told her of my certainty that they did then.... but she told me that she was working there when the person made the comment to hold the account and have never asked for receipts to show paid since she was there. The second thing was an issue I have with the training at which time I was told by the trainer (no longer working there) That we could come back for a refresher if for any reason not satisfied. Confident this again could be satisfied by showing my bank statement for proof of purchase she said it had to be the handwritten receipt given at the time of purchase. If she had been older... I'm certain the whole store would have heard what I had to say by this time. For the Training, I guess we will just go somewhere else and retake it but she tried to indicate it would be no different anywhere else....what a crock! I know better than that so I told her... well if it happens to be the rescue center I got him at... I'm quite certain we would have no issues. read more

This place has really gone down hill from when I used to go here. The floors are dirty and they don't have enough employees working. I have an extremely picky cat, who likes her food one day but not the next, or won't touch it at all. I have expressed this concern to my vet and they said to keep trying different food until we find the one. That being said, PetSmart staff is extremely helpful in choosing food for a picky cat. This PetSmart location is my go-to, because of the staff, selection, and prices. The staff are extremely helpful and pleasant to interact with. We are in here every other day and one of the cashier's always gives us crap that PetSmart is our home away from home. She's a really nice lady. I mainly come here for their wide variety of cat food selection. I want my cat on the best there is, which includes no meat by products, grain free, no artificial colors or flavor, and high in protein and taurine. I have gone with INSTINCT. I eventually want to switch her to raw, and instinct offers freeze dried raw, and frozen raw. Which is great. I enjoy being a pet perks member, I usually save about $10 a trip. I just wish you could actually earn points towards in store purchases. Highly recommend. read more

I was gifted a Betta with a too small tank and incorrect food (both suggested as adequate by staff), there was no gift receipt. Petsmart refused to work with me or the purchaser stating they would only do an exchange with original receipt, no exceptions. I like that people can bring their dogs here while they shop. It's a cute doggie social hour with tons of butt sniffing and grrring and tail wagging. It's a nice way for someone like me that can't have a dog yet to get my creepy voyeuristic dog loving fix. This place is a warehouse of pet needs and they offer grooming. I find the prices to be fair and the selection is magnificent. I bought a live cat nip plant for my cat because apparently it's supposed to be more 'potent' when the cat nip is freshly picked. My cat is now totally messed up 24/7. Best $3 I have ever spent on entertainment. read more

Very government oriented, and will not give you a decent answer as to why they torture birds by placing a metal anchor on their feet that cannot easily be taken off by a customer without sedating the bird and having special tools. Why in the world would someone attempt to place a metal cuff on a bird to begin with is beyond me, yet they seem to place it on the government law, other bird raisers or whatever else they want when asked. Perhaps people just want to purchase a bird, as they do a fish or tree, without another plastic or metal piece on it that is very difficult to remove... read more

I brought my dog in for a second time to get a hair cut and this time it was done by jassmin! This experience was better then the last with pleasant interaction and she did a way better job on my dogs hair! She definitely went above and beyond. read more

This review is for the corporate policy - apparently if you're 6 minutes late for an appointment in grooming, they won't allow you to have service. The grooming salon is incredible. I've been taking my 2 dogs here for years and when my boy passed away the staff was really involved and helped me get through it. They sent me a card and cried with me. They're like family and they will love your dog as much as you do. read more

This place is not what it used to be. Under staffed and no one really seems to want to help you. You can stand there looking at an item and get ready to ask for help, but you can see that they notice you and they walk the other way smh. I was there to buy some fish for my cousin and there literally was no fish. There was feeder fish, but no non feeder fish. They was a few, but they were in quarantine. So I got a new puppy. They didn't offer the huge savings book when I had to buy EVERYTHING; another location suggested it and even went back and saved me the money. But I was told about the grooming. I was told they wouldn't cut my puppy who has soooo much fur until she was 6 months old because they may be scared of the shears. My pup is so chill that I did it at 4 months because she was getting everything in her fur and brushed daily and liked the rain and would smell. Another short staffed, disappointing visit AGAIN today! They need to get their shit together!

We've been getting our two dogs groomed here for years, and although in the previous years we have had no issues, the last few visits have been less than satisfactory. The most important time to note was the last time we brought both dogs in. I confirmed the phone number to call prior to leaving my dogs and I asked if they could please call me after my small dog was done because he's anxious and only takes two hours vs the five hours my other dog takes, so I wanted to pick him up asap. After four hours had gone by, I figured things took longer and they were waiting for both to be done. Which was okay, I'm sure they get busy. Then the five hour mark passed, then six-seven hours. I called and asked, are my dogs done yet? They stated they tried calling me several times and my mailbox was full, and that my dogs had been done for a couple hours. Well, they continued to call my husbands old phone, even though I verbalized and watched the woman who checked us in write down and circle MY number. I was so upset. My poor dogs had been done for hours... this time they stated we needed the rabies vaccination for our one dog, so we made an appointment and got it done. Well, we went to drop off our dogs today and they said our OTHER dog's rabies is expired. Our vet is EXCELLENT and even when we bring one of our dogs in they check for the other. They said both were now up to date on everything. There is a lack of communication and organization in this place. It's Sunday, so of course our vet is closed. It's just frustrating when you've had such good experiences and all of a sudden things just seem like they're lacking. We will be finding a somewhere else to bring them next time. read more

First time I took my dog to Petsmart its was a nice experience (a year ago) I brought him again this past July...and asked for the same cut... no one knew what the cut was... and they all looked confused... I showed them what he looked like with his cut but they all said they didn't know how to do it, and to wait for the manager to do it, but she was on vacation. I brought him back and the manager was there... I told her not to cut or trim his tail and i even wrote it down, she said ok, I said they expressed his glands before too and she said yes they will do that. when I picked him up, I liked the haircut but they cut his tail and trimmed it. That sucked and I hated it. and now 3 weeks later,,, even tho they said that they did it,,, I have to take my dog to the vet to get his glands expressed. They lied and they ignored how I wanted my dog cut. read more

UPDATE: I did have to come back and update my review because after taking our dog to the vet today PetSmart has done their best to rectify the situation. When our family vet examined her, they determined it had nothing to do with her anal gland and that she was actually cut by the groomer with the razor. PetSmart reimbursed the cost of both of our dogs grooming and said they would mail a check for the vet bill as well. I am surprised by this high level of customer service and very glad that PetSmart did the right thing. Thank you to the manager who how to solve this problem. Original review: Very dissatisfied with our grooming experience today after coming here for many years. We received a call from the groomer while we had our two dogs in for grooming services today. She explained that she had no idea what happened but that they noticed bleeding coming from our dog's rear end during her service. They claimed that they had the vet check her out and that she had an anal gland rupture. When we went to pick up our pet after her service, they admitted that they had nicked her anal gland with the razor, as they had not expressed the glands before doing the cut. She stated that she didn't know why she had done that. I now have to take my dog to the vet to have her anal glands flushed and given antibiotics. I was still charged full price for the grooming and now I have the added cost of the veterinary bill. I am very disappointed that the groomer tried to deny any faults to me over the phone. We will not be returning to PetSmart grooming after this experience. My other dog also suffered bleeding from one of his nails being clipped too short. read more

: I use to bring my dog into this location for grooming, but I eventually had enough. I gave them two chance too. The first time they messed up was when I picked her up one day and I noticed that her long fluffy husky tail that ends with a point was cut. The tip of her tail was literally cut with a straight line where it was extremely noticeable. Thank god her hair grows fast. Took her to another groomer to eventually fix it up. I then gave them another try for a quick nail trim. Picked her up and went home. Just thinking it was only a nail trim and nothing serious. When I got home, my seats had blood on them. One of her nails were cut too deep and bleed. I wasn't happy about it Because they could of at least told me, they obviously knew and chose to not say anything about it. I've now found a new groomer and would never go back to this location for grooming. read more

I am a frequent shopper here. Yesterday purchased a Thunder Shirt for my Maltipoo. When I got home, noticed the bottom of the package was taped shut. Hesitating, as this was probably a return item, I opened the box only to discover a used bandaid inside! When I returned the item, the manager did not apologize but did say "Oh that's nasty". #1 rule in retail - always apologize when the customer presents something as disgusting as a used bandaid in an item purchased at YOUR store. I called ahead of time to make sure this grooming location does anal glands the lady on the phone stated they did its a walk in service. So I bring my dog in after waiting for 20 min for anyone to even get him into the system for the service he needed. The groomer toon him back I went to the register to pay came back after paying and they told me that they wiped his rear end but nothing came out and that they don't do anal glands the way the vet does it....So I paid for a service I didn't receive and they advertise they do this service that they don't. Will not ever bring my dog here again or spend a dime at a store that charges and advertises a service they don't do. read more

Very disappointed with their service to say the least. Me and my fiance had scheduled a puppy bath for our 8 week old Yorkie and provided all the information to the receptionist on Monday. When we arrived on Wednesday evening as scheduled, We had to provide all the information again since they could not locate our puppy's information. The staff wasn't very friendly to start off with. We were informed that the bath would take approximately an hour so we went to Cub Foods to do grocery shopping. After we left Cub Foods, which was approximately an hour, we went to see if the bath was done. We were informed that it would be another hour before they would be done. Two hours to do a puppy bath? Could they have at least let us know if there was any additional work that needed with the bath after the first hour? Not going to return for the promotional discounts which we paid $20 for the coupon book. The only savings that I look forward to is my sanity. We are going to start taking our puppy to our other groomer which is all the way out in Burnsville but from this experience, I'd rather do the drive to a groomer who actually does a better job. Very disappointed I have to even give this place one star. If you want to try this place for grooming, go at your own risk. read more

Was there today. Apparently you can no longer chose the fish you want depending on how many is the tank. I was always able to before so this is not a good experience for me. I would understand if there was a line of people waiting. But there wasn't. And catering an extra min or two help get a satisfied customer is too much. I bought two betta fish from this store about a week ago for my birthday. I did do a little research on caring for Bettas , but I didn't know much off the top of my head , and I got overwhelmed with all the options of things to get . The staff here was NOT helpful at all. First of all , when I asked if I needed to get the pre-bottled water for the fish he pointed vaguely to where the bottles were located . Once I got to the counter was the worst. The lady had the most terrible attitude for no reason. I tried asking her a few more questions about caring for Bettas and she seemed to get super frustrated with me. THIS IS WHERE I GET PISSED OFF .. I bought a 2.5 gallon split tank for my Bettas , because that's the tank that was suggested to me( by PetSmart staff ) . After doing research I've learned Bettas need 3 gallons (at least) of water to themselves to roam . Bettas don't live in puddles in nature they're just known for being found in them during droughts-so the concept of them living in such a small tank is bizarre to me .I feel mislead and irritated because I really was determined to give this fish a proper home. You'd think after everything PetSmart would start to show they actually give a shit about the lives of the animals they sell. I'll be going elsewhere to get a bigger tank, along with proper supplies for my fish next time . read more

I used to have an unfavorable review up but recently I have been having a much more positive experience. My dog has some behavior issues and the employees have been very helpful In helping my dog get properly socialized. The trainer is fantastic! We did have a very unfortunate grooming experience but we have since gone back and things have been much better (I think the groomer that was mean to my dog was eventually fired). They always remember us and go above and beyond! read more

Took my dog in for a "Paw-dicure" which included a nail trim, nail grind, ear clean, and a bandana or bow for $20. The lady groomer did a horrible job. The nails were still long, and she grinded the very tip on the top of the nails only. One of his nails weren't even touched! My dog's ears were not cleaned nor was an accessory given to him. I could tell she was having a hard time doing her job, probably due to lack of experience. That was a bad investment I made on my part. I won't be a returning customer. read more

By far, and very very far, my favorite Petsmart location. I grew up going here from buying fishes, buying food for birds, turtle food, adopting hamsters, buying cat food, and now I take my puppy here. I think this will be the only place that I schedule for grooming for my puppy. I took her to the Rosedale location because they were totally booked here (and usually are always) on saturdays. We started taking our small dog here to get her nails trimmed and a bath and the first couple of times went okay. However, this last time I booked an appointment online and my boyfriend took our dog in, it took about two hours to get our dog in and out. I was not too happy, it usually takes about an hour. The last time we purchase dog food here for our dog, her food was on sale and when the cashier rung us up the original price showed up instead. I told her the bag of dog food was on sale, which was why we bought the big bag instead, and she told me it wasn't. She didn't even bother to check. Since my boyfriend was paying he said it was fine because there was a line of people behind us and he just paid for the full amount. Customer service is a thumbs down! read more

Horrible store, groomers, and vets! Do not go here. Used to buy products here frequently, and got my dogs nails trimmed here only one time (that was enough), Banfield was also our primary vet. Never will they receive any more business from me again. My dogs stomach was cut open somehow during his one and only trimming from them. read more
