The Petco staff here always seem helpful and friendly. Our kids especially love visiting to see the colorful fish, birds, amphibians, turtles, and the kittens and cats available for adoption. She said they were on sale, but not very forthcoming with either a percentage or if it was all Christmas items When she was ringing up the Halloween toys they were coming up around $4-5 each. I told her I got them from the 1 for $2 and 3 for $5 bin. So I had been expecting that to be their price. She said that only applies to certain toys in that bin. What??? That's crazy I said. Very concerning experience with Petco grooming and management. I have taken my dog, Happy, to San Ramon Petco for grooming for years. Recently, my relative took him to the Ygnacio Valley Petco with a list of what I wanted done. Groomer and manager Sabrina refused to accept him. My relative put Sabrina on the phone with me. Sabrina first said I was asking for too much to be done in 1 1/2 hours. I said no problem; they could take as long as needed. She then changed her reason and said the groomer "doesn't connect with you and your dog." The groomer had never met me or groomed Happy, so how could she know that? Sabrina also said the groomer was a "private business" and could refuse service. I later asked several Petco stores and was told their groomers are Petco employees. Sabrina then brought up Christie, a former groomer who always did a wonderful job with Happy, and told me, "I was her manager and I fired her." I don't understand what firing a former employee had to do with my dog's appointment. Sabrina also said San Ramon had a note that I complained before. Yes, ONE time. After grooming, Happy had several scratches, including one large enough to concern me. San Ramon asked me to bring him back and gave me ointment. I continued taking Happy to the SAME San Ramon store afterward without a problem. After Ygnacio Valley refused Happy, I called San Ramon. Caitlin said I could bring him there. She groomed him, and I was very happy with her service. Since June, I have called Petco Customer Service 4-5 times asking for an investigation. Each time I was told someone would call me. Nobody did. On August 20, I called South Main for a nail appointment and was shocked to learn there was a flag on my account and they would not accept Happy. I live in Danville and have a relative in Walnut Creek. After this experience, I no longer trusted the Ygnacio Valley location and wanted another option. I called Customer Service again. I learned the district manager was at the Ygnacio Valley store. A supervisor promised the regional manager would call within 24 hours on August 21. Nobody called. Even more confusing, two days ago I was specifically told that because Happy had already been going to San Ramon, I could continue taking him there. Today I called San Ramon asking for Ed. Daniel, an Assistant Manager, answered and insisted he could help. While I explained the situation, he repeatedly cut me off and was rude and dismissive. Daniel said I had already spoken with "all those managers" and could no longer bring Happy to San Ramon or ANY Petco. That is not true. I have NEVER spoken with any of these managers except Sabrina. I asked Daniel which managers he meant and asked for Ed's schedule. He would not answer and kept saying, "Have a good day," while I was still trying to get answers. So two days ago I was told I could continue using San Ramon. Today I was told I cannot take Happy there or to any Petco. I called Customer Service again and spoke with Victor in Premier Support. I requested an independent corporate investigation. Victor told me the general manager, district manager and other managers had already given their input. How can these managers give their input about me when I have NEVER spoken with any of them except Sabrina? Nobody called to hear my side. Nobody interviewed me. Nobody explained what was being put on my account. Yet managers I have never spoken with apparently gave their input, my account was flagged, and now my dog is being refused service. From my experience, it appears these managers may be protecting or covering for each other rather than providing a fair and independent review. That is exactly why I am asking Petco Corporate to investigate not only Sabrina, but also the general manager, district manager and everyone involved in making or approving this decision. Petco Corporate should determine: Who flagged my account? Who approved it? What was written about me and Happy? What evidence was used? Why was I told two days ago I could continue using San Ramon and then told today I cannot use any Petco? Why were managers allowed to give their input while nobody contacted me for mine? Customers should be able to report an injury or complain about treatment without fearing that notes will be placed on their account and they will later be refused service throughout the company. Based on my experience, I would not take my dog to the Ygnacio Valley location for grooming. I understand this location will be closing permanently soon. Regardless, I believe Sabrina, the general manager, district manager and everyone involved in this situation should be independently investigated by Petco Corporate. I just left the store and did not buy anything that I came to purchase. The cashier there at 9:58 am was extremely rude! When I got to the register with my cart he was on his cell phone. He had a baseball cap pulled down low and a face mask. I could not even see his face. He acted as if it was an effort to look up at me. My go to place for my cats favorite cat food. They go crazy for the chicken flavor tasteful. I love how they have cat adoptions here too hopefully all these beautiful baby kitty find homes. Pet store is pretty empty when ever we visit so it's nice not having to wait in lines and dealing with a lot of customers inside the store. The ambiance is like any other small pet store. Took my dog here a couple months back for a nail trim, I normally do it myself but I was very busy and it needed to be done since my dogs nails were very overgrown I made an appointment dropped him off and he was done in 20 mins but once my dog was in the car I looked at his nails and they were the exact same length I even touched the ends of them to feel if they were rough from the filing/buffing and nope nothing was done, more recently I needed to get my dog a bath and a nail trim and my other dog just a nail trim and this petco carries the dog food they eat as well so I figured why not give this place another try and I go to schedule an appointment for a bath on the app and see the available times then I decide before I actually schedule it I'm going to call ahead and just schedule the bath and the al a crate nail trim since you can't schedule just a nail trim on the app and the lady who answered was saying they had no availability and I was confused because I was staring at the app with availability and she proceeded to go off on me and say the groomer is off at 6 ( I was trying to schedule for 3:30/4pm time frame ) and I said ok can i just schedule my dog for a bath since I'm seeing availability on the app and I can bring my other dog in as a walk in for a nail trim? she then proceeded to lecture how the app isn't accurate and how if I come in she can and will turn us down so I shouldn't even bother trying so I told her thank you and I and hung up then I made the appointment on the app and 10 mins before my appointment time I get a call saying that something happened with a dog in the grooming salon and the groomer is now not able to take my appointment and they are out with the manager at a vet, I then called the store to see if they had something in stock and ironically the manager picked up so I then asked about the grooming service and was told that the grooming salon closed early that day since there were no appointments for the day and the groomer had personal plans. You get a lot better service at the petsmart across the street and they have the same services but cheaper and actually treat their customers well (and actually preform the service you pay for) read more

I have been taking my dog to the Concord location for grooming and finally was able to schedule an appointment to the N. Walnut Creek location since it is closer to my home. (Scheduled the appointment May 24, 2023). I just got a text cancelling my appointment without cause. I tried calling the location twice and was on hold. I finally spoke to customer service and their reasoning was, "That stylist is no longer with the company so the system cancelled your appointment." I did not choose a stylist, I chose "Any Stylist". That is not an acceptable answer. The customer service guy is trying to help me, but this "System" that Petco Grooming is using is about as useful as styrofoam on toast. The next available grooming appointment is in August. In the meantime I need to go to another location for my girl's grooming. Do better Grooming department at N. Walnut Creek! read more

I have been a loyal petco shopper for over 15 years, and I have never been to a store that has been out of stock of so many cat items. I was looking for specific canned cat food and they where all out of a few different ones I needed. And they just didn't have much treats ,toys and etc for cats here. Not to mention when I was in line the only cashier that was working talking for like 20 mins with the customer while the line was getting longer. I don't mind when you talk with the clients, but you should be aware of the line and not make people wait , or get another cashier to help out. read more

We just moved to concord and having been regular users of Petco grooming services in San Francisco, we booked our toy poodle in for her first grooming. We dropped her off at 2pm and were told she'd be ready in two hours. Four hours passed and worried, we called the several times over the course of 45 mins before finally getting through. We were told there had been an "incident" and that our dog's leg had been cut. They told us they were going to take her to the vet and so we got in the car to meet them there. They weren't at the veterinary clinic. We drove to Petco where one of the groomers told us a Guest Manager had just left and should now be at the clinic. When we met the Petco Guest Manager (whose job as she put it, is to "keep the guests happy") at the vet's clinic and asked what the delay was in her bringing the dog to the vet, she said she couldn't find a crate to put our dog in, and that when she finally did, it took two of them to get her (12lb dog) into it - clearly terrified!!! So in more than FOUR HOURS they'd given her a bath and a "pre-cut", cut her skin with a blade and totally traumatized her! The Petco guest manager told us the district manager was unwilling to share his contact info (email or number) with us and we were told to contact customer care instead! Even worse is that I believe this is a regular occurrence. The vet told us they get dogs from this Petco on a "regular" basis. When we asked how regular, she said "not weekly, but often. I'd say at least monthly." What sort of business are they running?? When we first couldn't get through on the phone and thought something was wrong, my fiancé remarked that he questioned whether he should leave her there at drop off as the groomer asked if she was a biter, to which he responded that she'd only ever attack with kisses. Her response? "Because I was bitten by a chiuuwawa earlier." Irrelevant, and perhaps the sign of a nervous groomer? Our dog has been to so many groomers and never had a single issue. Totally ridiculous that in 4hrs they not only failed to groom a 12lb dog, but that they left her hacked, scarred and trembling, and with a trip to the vet! Not to mention that when we got home that night we found an additional wound on her throat in addition to the wound glued by the vet on her thigh! We'll never darken their door again! This one deserved it We went to pick up an online order, and despite ringing the bell several times, it took my husband to go over and get one of the three employeesthe woman within earshot and ask if one of them would ring up our sale. Additionally, the box that we had waiting for us had been previously opened, and we asked if we could have the one that was not previously opened. We were told we could go get it ourselves and then the woman turn to her coworker and said "you know, it really hasn't been previously opened! ". Not sure how else the top got ripped. This location discriminates. I came in for a walk in nail trim for two dogs. The clerk said that they didn't have any openings for walk in appointments even though all stations were completely empty. I asked to schedule an appointment then and she said that they are booked until August 11th (which is a lie because I checked online). It seemed like this individual just didn't want to service my dogs. I never had this issue at the previous petco location before I moved. I ended up going to another location maybe 10mins away from this one In Concord and the staff was pleasant and the clerk actually checked with the groomers to see if they could squeeze my dogs in for a walk in and they did, no attitude or anything. I had issues with the staff at this location before when I brought one of my dogs on for their rabies shot. They lied on the paperwork and said my dog was too difficult to measure all of their vitals. We were there for maybe 5mins total for check in, paperwork, and waiting to get the actual shot. Ordered a fish tank online that was on sale. When I went to pick it up, it was damaged. They found 2 more in store that were also cracked. I asked when they would get more or what else could be done and was told they are being discontinued so there was nothing that could be done. I asked if I could exchange at a different store and was just told that I'd have to pay the difference in price because other stores won't want to honor that price. So they refunded the money and I still have no fish tank ruining my day as I had been waiting a long time to find one at a price I could afford. I will not be going there again. read more

Who runs this place? The last two times I've been here I've dealt with the rudest employees. I went to pick up my online order. When I got to the front cashier he just stares at me. I say I'm here for an online order. Says nothing, stares me down like I'm bothering him. Then he disrespectfully says door dash?! I say no. I ask him do you need anything to identify my order I show him the order number to speed things up. Which is what he should have just asked in the first place. One of the main reasons for visiting Petco is to find a wide range of pet related products conveniently in one place. However on multiple occasions, and counted an empty shelves and the absence of essential items I needed for my pets. It is frustrating and convenient to go to the store with expectations of fighting everything required, only to be met with consistent disappointment due to their poor inventory management. The frequent shortages not only inconvenience customers but they also raise questions about petco's commitment to meeting the needs of pet owners. It reflects poorly on their ability to maintain sufficient stock levels and cater to demand other customers it is disheartening to see companies of Petco statues consistently failing to provide the products they are advertised. I'll start by saying I've been coming to this location every week for feeders for a while now. Usually customer service is nothing great but not horrible (minus one employee who I will mention at the end of this review). The last few visits I've had the pleasure of dealing with the lovely Alice which none of my interactions have been pleasant. It always goes the same way too. I ask her politely for feeders which then she responds rudely in some way or another. First couple times she responded with "How many" without even acknowledging me or looking in my direction, but today I got a "Can you ask somebody else I'm busy". I then ignored the attitude and proceeded to find someone else to get me feeders. I then unfortunately had to go down the same aisle Alice was doing her extremely important task on to get meal worms, she looks up at me in the middle of the aisle, doesn't move so I literally have to squeeze around her with my dog. She then says out loud "Excuse me" which I thought to myself was kind of nice because of what a rude human she was, but I was wrong. On the way back out the aisle she says "You should've said excuse me" which caught me soo off guard considering she, the employee was the one who saw me in the way and refused to move even an inch. Anywho, her and I end up exchanging words. I then go to checkout and complain to the manager about the bad experiences I have been having with her. Alice follows me up to the register and continues to antagonize me as I'm trying share my experience and we end up getting into another argument (mind you in-front of other customers, how professional lol). This is by far the most unpleasant worker in any retail store I've encountered in a long time. Now all that being said, I will say I give a completely separate 5 stars to Cher at the same location. She is the only one there who ever goes above and beyond and gives amazing customer service. Too bad she is switching locations soon and this location will go back to mediocre. read more

Middle aged woman that was clearly annoyed that I needed help. She was stocking shelves, never offered any customer any assistance. I needed something I had never purchased before (lg mouse for snake). I found the location (refrigerator), looked, found rats. There were boxes on the top rack but I did not know the difference between 'hoppers' and other tags. You could not see the actual packages and I was not going to pull everything out. I decided to find someone that knew/understood the terminology. Annoyed body language. Annoyed tone in every word said to me. I used to have a store. This would never have happened there. Awful construction noise in the store today. I told the store manager she should complain to her district manager about it because it is hazardous to her employees' ears and can cause long term damage. I don't know how anyone with an 8 hour shift can stand it. Its unreasonable working conditions. Also, there are lots of animals in there. I had a dog and they have dogs in there for grooming. My dog would hate it and be very scared in a noisy environment like that. The poor groomers having to hear that and the dogs who already hate being groomed being even more uncomfortable and unmanageable due to that noise. If I heard that I'd walk out with my dog and not leave her to be groomed. Also they sell animals including fish, birds, tortoises. Turtles, hamsters, etc.. All those poor animals having to listen to that racket all day. Very bad on Petco to torture their employees, animals, and customers with that racket. At least as a customer I can get out of there fast. The employeees are stuck there for theit shifts and the animals are stuck there until either the construction is over or their bought. Poor animals! This is nothing against the employees just against corporate for leaving the poor animals in unlivable conditions and torturing their employees with very loud construction noise. read more

Me and my daughter went there to adopt a cat this morning. We were told that they would only sell the cat to us if we kept it indoors. We told her if we told her we would do that that that would be a lie. She then said that she would make a call to the supplier of the cats and see if it would be OK if the cat could go outside under supervision. She walked away and made a phone call and came back and told us that we could not have the cat at all even though we had decided that we would go ahead and honor the contract and keep the cat and doors. Evidently we were judged, and that was not to be believed, especially according to the cat supplier who told us that that is what she had told them and that is why we were refused the adoption of the cat. Feel free to ask me for a copy of the email that they had sent us from the seller and I will do so. I hate to give such a bad review but I would hate to see somebody go in there and have their heart set on getting a cat like we were and we denied over somebody's judgment. Rest assured your store will never see a dime from us again. read more

I do NOT recommend Kaitlin at this Petco Grooming. Our dog is timid, shy but sweet. She's been going to the groomers for two years now - first at a small groomers and then the last few times, the PetSmart Grooming in Concord. Because she is shy, I always ask the groomer afterwards if she did ok and they always have said she's great. I have watched her get groomed behind the glass windows at PerSmart and was always surprised that she's on the table and not making a fuss even with dogs howling around her. According to Kaitlin she was "very hard to groom" and "was making herself fall off the table." She recommend we book VIP service if we ever come back. (We will not be coming back.) I told her our dog had been to several groomers and they told me she was great, and Kaitlin says, "They probably just didn't want to tell you." The groom was just ok - trimmed her legs too skinny. Now that I know what a good groom looks like - I'll be going back to my small private groomer (it is in Pinole, so a bit of a drive) But I should have trusted my gut that I shouldn't bring her to a big chain place like Petco! read more
