My girls and I stopped in yesterday to celebrate our dog's adoption day. We picked up a Ben and Jerry's frozen dog treat for him along with some Icelandic salmon and cod treats. Prices are on the higher side, but when you want something frozen right away, this is pretty much the only place that has it ready to go. My daughters always love looking at the cats, and even though there were only a few this time, I'm taking that as a good sign that most of them have been adopted. Checkout was quick and easy, and the person at the register was helpful. The only thing missing was a simple greeting or someone asking if we needed help. I don't require it, but it would have been nice to know if there were any specials or deals going on. Overall, it was a good visit and we got exactly what we came for. I understand sometimes it's difficult to understand basic concepts like making an appointment in advance for both of your dogs to have their rabies shots shouldn't be a complicated thing for this store to honor. We got there early because we would never be late for an appointment and we've been waiting now for over 45 minutes with two dogs sitting in the car outside. This is the disgraceful. I made the effort to book and schedule a time in advance. Unfortunately, this location could not understand this basic concept. It was just chaos. I would never come to this location ever again. Oh to my dogs need anxiety medication to go to the vet. I obviously had given my dogs. Their anxiety medication scheduled an appointment so my dogs wouldn't have to sit around and just wait making them an anxious. But this is exactly what happened here. The people at work at this location. I'm guessing it's just a factory next door please cause there was no consideration given to my pets. I'm now here over an hour past my appointment. read more

I came in for a self wash like I have been doing for the past 2 years. Lately it has been going downhill with the service, I don't know if the are understaffed or not but the employees here are not trained at all. I came in today for a self wash for 2 of my Dobermans and was told that there were no more towels and they will bring them up to me at the washing station. No problem, it's happened before. I bathe my first dog and after 10-15 minutes, no towels. I wait a bit so I can dry him off but nothing. I don't want to leave him there by himself so I blow dry him. After I walk up to the counter and ask how the towels are doing, and one of the managers says "I'll ask someone to check again" I wait a bit for an update, and nothing until I ask again and she says they're gonna check and bring them to me. I go back and bathe the second dog, and after 10-15 minutes still no towels. I know this dog is scared of the blow dryer but I attempt it and no success. Unfortunately, I have to leave her tied up because no one is walking by for help. I finally flag the same manager and she ignored me. I waited again until she had to walk past me and I asked how long does it take. By this point I am frustrated because my dog is cold and whining. I'm here thinking I should have towels by this point. The managers then apologizes to me and says the washer has been broken since yesterday! Wtf? Why didn't they tell me that before I bought the self wash? I could've bought a towel at target and come back! She then comes back with two towels from grooming and I can finally dry my dog. She apologizes to me and says she was not aware that the cashier did not let me know and that she will refund me. I needed one last thing but couldn't find what I was looking for, but I walked up to the counter and I asked the cashier why she didn't tell me the washers were broken in the first place and she said she "just did as she was told" and "she didn't know that they were broken". Another big lady walks by and says "they were broken yesterday but now there fixed" I was like wtfff the other supervisor just told me they were broken! But now they're fixed? No apologies from the rude cashier, and she even had the audacity to say "I don't know why you're so mad sir". Maybe because I PAID $40 for a service and was not told the service would be incomplete and I had two wet cold dogs waiting to dry? Btw, I did not get the refund the manager told me I was going to get. I left angrily, but I wanted to let the supervisor know that these employees are making YOU guys look bad. Looks like the only thing they train here is dogs, not employees. I would seriously reconsider your business relationship with that cashier and invest in more hours for training. Shout out to DIY Pet Wash on Victory and Reseda and Tams Pet Food on Tampa and Van Owen. That's where I will be going from now on for anything food, toy, or grooming related. If anyone's seeing or reading this, check them out. No corporate BS, all local and customer service centered. read more

I'm extremely disappointed with my recent experience at the Petco grooming service. After picking up my dog and bringing her home, I immediately noticed something was wrong. She was constantly shaking her ears and seemed very sensitive around her neck area. As time went on, it became clear this wasn't just mild irritation--she actually started bleeding from her ears, neck, and even her head. What's most concerning is that the groomer, Arthur, never mentioned any issues or incidents during the appointment. If something had happened, I should have been informed right away so I could take proper care of my dog. Instead, I was left to discover this on my own after the fact. This experience has been upsetting and stressful, both for me and my dog. I trusted this service to handle my pet with care, and unfortunately, that trust was not upheld. I would strongly urge better communication and more careful handling of animals in the future. read more

I booked my dog for groomers, as I've done several times in the past at this location. They said it would be a "couple of hours" and that I would receive a call in 2 hours or so with an update. Over the years I have dropped him off, he's usually done in 3 hours. When I called and booked, I was actually informed that the morning I had selected was "wide open, and should be quick". Still, I like to make sure I keep my expectactons relatively low. Arthur, the groomer seemed nice, no idea what his work is like because after 3 hours I called to get an update, and after being on hold for 7 minutes was informed that they hadn't even started work on my dog. No call, no communication, no prior explanation that they were backed up. When I spoke to the manager, Ashley, I was met with very lackadaisical and uninterested training-speak. I was told that Arthur was by himself and made to feel like I should care about the fact that he's overworked by Petco and overbooked, and that she was "pretty sure" they informed me of how long it would take...even though she was nowhere near us when I dropped the dog off. Here's a thought, perhaps this PETCO can stop overbooking dogs, and telling clients that they are wide open. Perhaps they could hire more groomers, and that might be a way that they could shoulder the responsibility of taking care of their employees like Arthur so that he doesn't have to deal with dissapointed customers. Ultimately, terrible communication, a lack of concern for the pet, and the customer's time, combined with a very poorly trained manager who took NO accountability at all, offered no apology for their mistake leads me to warn you not to bother coming here. I won't be. If they don't care, you shouldn't either. read more

This Pet Co really needs better management. Today I went there looking for liquid de wormer for my cats & the girl working told me they don't carry liquid only tablets and to go to the Pet Co RX store in Porter Ranch. I called there and was unable just to purchase a liquid wormer but the regular store in Porter Ranch did have a liquid de wormer & they said the Encino store has some in stock, drove there they didn't but they said THE VAN NUYS STORE HAD 4 in stock?!? After wasting a few hours I went back to the Van Nuys store again today and spoke to the girl manager and told her what happened and she just brushed it off and did not give a darn even when I told her she needed to train her people! This is exactly why people like me order from Chewy's since people at Pet Co are no help whatsoever! That manager should be fired! She lacks customer service skills to be in management. I was visiting from out of town and brought my dog for a bath and a trim of face, paws, and sanitary areas. I picked him up and he definitely looked cleaner and his face looked a little better but not right, I didn't realize till I took him for a walk that his sanitary area was not was groomed at it didn't even look like it was trimmed. Keeping it trimmed properly, keeps his little behind clean. I called and had to leave a message and they rescheduled me to come back the next day. They redid his face, but his little backend was still not right. I sent him back in a third time and told her to just make sure it was neat and clean he came out a completely trimmed to the skin. A customer ahead of me was complaining that her dogs paws were not trimmed properly as well. The employees were nice enough, but I would not recommend taking your dog here for a grooming. read more

Someone called at 12:30 and left a message which did not show up on my phone. They said my husky would be ready in a half hour. I called at 2 and someone told me that they called and had spoken to me. When I got there the woman in front stuck to their guns. She said I probably forgot that I had spoken to some one. That's when I got pissed. My dog was sitting there for 1.5 hours in a cage for no reason. They could have called again, texted, somehow reached out. But they didn't care about my poor dog or me. Long overdue review! We have been taking our maltipoo Benny here for grooming services for almost 2 years now and have had overall great experiences. Beth was the main groomer we booked appointments with but unfortunately appears she is no longer at this location. However, we have booked with Justin and more recently with Jessica at this location who are just as amazing. All groomers at this location have always kindly followed our instructions and grooming requests. We only experienced Benny's tail being cut a bit shorter than requested once but this was not a huge deal and groomer at that time was very professional addressing our feedback. Our Benny was not very well-behaved this last time we visited 2-3 weeks ago with Jessica but the team went above and beyond to re-book and offered recommendations to make appointments more comfortable for Benny as he tends to get anxious in the kennel or if it's too busy. Look at how low rated this property is. Why won't management address the problems in these reviews. I used to enjoy this location for its convenience, but I experienced a rather unpleasant experience recently. It wasn't entirely the cashier's utter disrespect and lack of humanity, it was under the control of the corporation. I was rung up $80.50 for cat food, cat toy, cat nip, and cat crap bags. Asides from absurd inflation of 4 items, I handed the clerk $81 and they pointed to an obnoxious credit card machine that was manipulatively asking, begging, for me to add money. WHY????? Just skim off the top of the overpriced items I buy to keep my fur companion happy. I tell the clerk, "I give cash so I don't have to deal with that. "You have to acknowledge or I can't proceed." "That's absurd, I'm giving you almost exact change." "There's nothing I can do about it." "Please call your manager over." "They're just gonna say the same thing." After a heated back and forth, the clerk turns the machine around and hits decline... Ohhhhhhhhh, so there was something you could do about it. Shame on petco's policies that put clerks and customers in uncomfortable situations. And what's the point. This woman is wearing a back support brace for a reason... she's helped me to my car multiple times, frequently lifting 120 to 220 lbs of cat litter. It's obnoxious that I order so much cat litter at once, but the DEALS r crazy when I buy in bulk and order online for pick-up. And it's a good workout. DO NOT GO HERE Totally Rude Manager, oh so he said Giovanni is his name. I had a stray cat in my car, he had a super long line. Only one other cashier that was helping someone. The guy had a 10 min conversation with a girl who was not buying anything or was done, with a VERY long line behind me. I explained that i have a stray cat I am trying to give shelter too because the night was rainy and cold, and I needed to hurry to pay and get out and can he please ring me up while he was talking. My wife shops at Petco on Sepulveda Boulevard often. We noticed that her most recent purchase was on promotion for $14.99. However, she was charged sales tax on the regular price which was $23.99. This is obviously illegal to pay taxes on a dollar amount on a regular price item when it was purchased at a sales price.
