I do not typically do things like this but this crossed a line. ANIMAL ABUSE AND NEGLECT!!! Petco at 2706 US-22 in Union, NJ you should be disgusted with yourself. I dropped off my dog (Teddy) at Petco grooming at 11:45AM for his appointment. I recieve a text message at 2:06 (OVER 2 HOURS SINCE BEING DROPPED OFF) that he was "not liking the blow dryer" and stating that the groomer "has to tend to her other dog appointments" I respond to the text message. I than did not receive a call or text from 2:06-4:00 (I got to the store at 4pm and another dog was on the grooming table) When I get there I find out that he has been in A CAGE the whole time after his bath (OVER 5-6 HOURS) so he can "air dry" He was completely ignored and neglected for hours on end while you are tending to other dogs and playing musical chairs with appointments. The groomer was visibly working with other dogs while my dog sat in a cage, are you kidding me? The kicker of this whole interaction was when I asked if he was done being groomed she told me it will take another 2 hours to finish him and if I wanted to "wait it out" I walked out the store with my dog wet and not groomed at 5:22pm- 5 HOURS AND 37 MINUTES AND YOU HAVENT DONE ANYTHING BUT BATHE HIM. This isn't just about bad service, it's about neglect. You do not keep someone's pet locked up half the day because you do not know how to manage your schedule correctly. He has been crying and shaking since leaving the groomers. I will never forgive this place for how they treated my baby and I will take it all the way there if needed read more

Straightforward pickup of my online order but with my PayPal payment they were able to give me a gift card on the return vs send back to PayPal. They have a lot of snacks and toys and supplies, live fish and some gerbils. Adoption services and a grooming counter to one side of the store. However light on staff, had to wait a bit at the registers. read more

Placed an order online for same day delivery...went tobtrack my order and found it was canceled...when I contacted Petco I was told my items were not available for same day delivery, hence the cancelation...I did not receive any communication from them asking if I would like a different shipping option, they just canceled the order...not happy with Petco...only gave them 1 star because I could not move forward with adding at least 1 star... read more

The place was your typical pet store with so many options for foods, kits and supplies. I couldn't find an employee for the life of me to show me where the fish food was which makes me think that maybe they're a little bit understaffed at the time of me writing this review. The animals were super adorable to look at but overall this pet store wasn't anything extraordinary. read more

The personal at the union location was horrible and very disappointing. I came into petco for the first time the grooming area I had an 1030 appointment we arrived 10.25 we waited until 1040 and we were not recognize by any of the store personal I proceeded to tap on window were I saw 2 personal standing and talking the one personal started screaming at me and telling me that was unexceptable and they would not serve me I asked to see the manager she proceeded to say they were not waitinng on me. It was placed on my pets record that I walked out without paying. I am mortified as I have to give this record to the Senior living home where the cat is being gifted to my mom. I explained to the assistant when she called and asked me did I pay because they found the sku card in the doorway of the entrance to the store, that yes, I paid and I could send her a copy of my receipt. She explained that she had no way to receive a copy of anything and proceeded to place this accusation on my pets record is absolutely insane. I'm sure this was racially motivated as they were all of Caucasian descent or other than African American ethnicity. All someone had to do was check the register for the transaction to see that it was paid! I will no longer visit Petco vaccination services and will advise others of the disparaging remarks left on Chloe's vet record. and although I know theft is a thing. I AM NO THIEF. Had an appt for grooming at 8am for my two pups, I get there on time and the store is closed. Some guy comes to open up at 8:10, lets me in with no explanation, apologies, or anything. He tells me the groomer will be there shortly. I go inside and wait for another 10 mins while he's out smoking with his buddy. As I'm leaving (pissed) I see the groomer waddling in as if she just finished a bucket of fried chicken and has all the time in the world. Nope, not going back. they wasted time my time, I don't play about my time. I hope Petco monitor these comments and see they lost $100+ and then some. read more

This review is specifically for our Vetco experience at this location. We came here for our dog's vaccinations. We received a phone call as we were driving for intake prior to the appointment which definitely saved time at the visit. During the intake, we were offered to put her on flea/tick prevention in addition to heartguard prevention meds which we didn't know were part of Vetco's services. They explained the differences and gave us the financial information over the phone which was helpful so we could discuss it during the car ride. Once we checked in to Vetco, our dog's weight was taken, and we were brought inside where a vet tech asked us some more questions. Pretty quickly after, Dr. Mohamed entered. I will say that Dr. Mohamed was not very talkative, nor maybe even gentle; in fact, while we wondered Petco waiting for her blood test results, we weren't sure how we felt about the visit. However, while we were waiting and wondering about the store, someone came to find us and ushered us inside the room where Dr. Mohamed told us our dog had Lyme. He compassionately addressed our questions and concerns because we had gone to another vet to deal with a tick we found on her. He professionally educated us about the standard that should have been given and told us what to ask the next vet for the follow-up/treatment of her Lyme. He also patiently answered any questions we had after his conversation with us. Dr. Mohamed's demeanor reminded me of a surgeon; he was very clinical at the beginning of the visit, and did what he had to. However, when his patient had an illness, he took the time to properly address the concerns and even fill in the gap of knowledge. We have had a couple poor experiences with vets, but are grateful for Dr. Mohamed and Vetco's affordable help. We would definitely consider coming to this Vetco even though there are closer options for the treatment we received. read more

I have the rewards card so I get $5 off coupons every so often, which is nice. Good selection of quality cat food (Before Grain and Natural Balance are the ones we buy). Good selection of cat toys, furniture and other cat related items. Can you tell I have cats? :) Friendly enough staff and the store always seems clean and organized. Petco sucks! Will never buy from them again. Bought an order online and the size is wrong. The store wouldn't let me exchange it for the next size up. And when I call the main number for orders they say since I purchased it on my own (what? I bought it from your online shop??) they are unable to exchange it for me. I hate you Petco. Best PetCo store location in the chain - thanks to the awesome guy in aquatics. He really knows what he's doing and his advice is consistently on point - especially when it comes to my saltwater tank. He has many times steered me away from one purchase towards one that's more compatible to not only my current tank inhabitants but also my skill level. Sure some fish can live in certain conditions, for years even - but for them to THRIVE they need certain considerations. Tanks are always immaculate when he's working. No dead fish. No gunky looking water. I'm always happy with my purchases and confident in them thanks to the super knowledgable guy in aquatics. read more

As a company, you got extremely lucky to have an amazing manager. He is extremely knowledgeable on all animal nutrition needs and requirements, and ensures that the store is functioning properly. Many of these chain pet stores have no clue about nutrition despite claiming that they do, but Tim is one of the best in the industry. Please keep him at the store for as long as you can. I have not actually been in this store, but their customer service is above and beyond. My mom was flying out of Liberty with her dogs and they told her that her crate was too small - with half an hour to go before they wouldn't take the dogs. I ran out and started calling pet stores. This one had the crate I needed (the customer service rep very patiently described it to me) and while I battled rush hour traffic, she rang me up over the phone and then ran the kennel out to my car! We made it in time for my mom's international flight and I'm sooo grateful!!! What a fantastic store! read more

Took our dog for a bath. They never called to confirm the appointment but luckily we called them the day of. At that point we were told they didn't have our dog's vaccination records. Appointment was booked two weeks prior but we are told this the same morning. Had to scramble to get the records because they wouldn't accept them being faxed. All the running around made us 10 mins late. The rep named Tommy tried to refuse my dog but after a not so pleasant exchange Tommy reluctantly accepted him. When we picked him up he looked and smelled exactly the same as when we took him. The same guy Tommy was responsible for washing him. He clearly decided to be spiteful and did absolutely nothing but took our money. We got a refund this am. Amber the manager was nice and apologized profusely. Unfortunately that wasn't enough. Our advice, Avoid bringing your pet here for grooming as long as Tommy is employed there. UPDATE: Tommy has been terminated! read more

I would give 3.5 stars if I could. This will be my fourth review of Petco of route 22. All I can say is that I've been going here for years and if I had to describe my experiences here in one word, it would be inconsistent. Each time there are different managers on duty, and some are amazing (Rich) and some are terrible (Joey). However, recently the service has been amazing, the staff know what they're talking about and best of all, they have completely updated their stock of fish, and now carry species like Celebes Rainbow Fish, Fire Eels, Black Ghost Knife Fish, Turquoise Jewel Cichlids, and countless others, that you'd never expect to see at a petco, only a specialty store. Had what we wanted, service was excellent BUT the ventilation was not good. I noticed as soon as I walked in the door. One person that was with me had to leave the store when we were checking out. It was not hot outside so wasn't an AC issue, it was ventilation, I don't claim to be a HVAC person but my guess is that if you have grooming and certain live animals such birds and ferrets you need good ventilation. They didn't have it this day. Hope it was a one day thing because Petco is big enough operation to know as much. read more

Although everyone is very polite and helpful at this store, I do feel like the grooming employees need more training. When I tried to make a grooming appointment for my 2 dogs, one of my dogs info had magically disappeared from their system. Regardless, I made the appointment for my other dog. Long story short... The groomer, cut off a piece of my dogs skin when shaving him down. I asked if he was fuzzing around or anything that could point the finger at my dog.. But she said no.. He was very calm and chill. She did state that his skin is very thin and it was an accident. The manager was very nice, they didn't charge me for the grooming and he gave me medicine for my dogs cut. The employee was sweet and very apologetic but I would never again take my dog back to this establishment for grooming purposes. I don't understand how she cut my dog... When she says my dogs skin was very thin... Is my dog the only dog w very thin skin? Regardless, be careful when taking ur dog to this establishment. read more

Recently visited this store and the new store looks amazing. Better location, better selection of pets, and a better selection of food for all animals! The associate Cory helped me out with my new set up for my fish tank and answered every question i had... he seemed like a human google about fish he warned me about certain fish and what's the best for a starter kit... he sold me on setting up an angelfish tank and my tank finally has cycled and now i have 2 angels thriving in my tank thanks to him. The other associates were amazing as well even the woman at the front cash register was amazing. Signed me up for my pals and saved a ton of money that day doing such. Overall cleaner store, better location, and amazing staff. Highly recommended! read more

A year ago, I stopped in this store to purchase live fish for my home aquarium. After waiting in the fish area for 45 minutes with no one to help with the fish I wanted, I left. The store was not busy at the time and the workers continued on their own things with taking inventory of the shelves, sitting behind the registers looking bored, and wiping things down. It was not close to closing time nor was there any sort of event going on. People were coming in and leaving with good purchases, etc. I wound up leaving after 45 minutes with no purchases. I don't feel like it is my responsibility to find a worker to tell them I was ready to choose the fish I needed because as a customer, the retailer is responsible for seeing that customer needs are tended to. Fast forward to trying this store again even though said I would never and I was in there to purchase a parakeet. Again, I was met by no one for 30 minutes and again I left empty handed. It's no wonder everyone tells me not to shop in this store. Petco really needs to up their game in customer service training. I believe this will be my last visit to the establishment. read more

I went to get my dog groomed for the first time recently at petco and was very displeased with the customer service. I walked in and was quickly greeted by a grooming employee. I had made an appointment and being that it was my first time grooming at petco I had to fill out some paperwork..no biggie...I expected that. What I didn't expect was the attitude that I got from the girl who was assisting me. She acted like I was bothering her. She kept huffing and puffing as she was typing my information...I don't really get what her deal was. Then I noticed a grooming special and proceeded to ask her for the free upgrade with full service groom as advertised. She looked at me rolled her eyes and said that was false advertising and said they wouldn't upgrade...WHAT?!? It clearly said free upgrade with the service I was getting...no fine print..nothing....I was having a great day off and decided not to make a big deal about it at the store and left without my free upgrade. As far as the groom goes- I am very pleased. My dog came back to me looking great. If not for the horrible customer service I would definitely give it 5 stars! read more

I have been shopping here for years.The shopping part is fine the store is neat I can easily find things etc.The groomers here are horrible.When I first started getting my 3 small dogs groomed here someone named C groomed then always did an excellent job,got a promotion and transferred to Clark store I wished her the best then put my trust in T.T groomed them for a few times 6-8 she was cool.I always tip it's the American way.Xmas of 2015 I gave T extra tip for Xmas she did not disclose that she scratched my dogs eye.My dog was badly injured I took her to the vet drops 2 different kinds for over a month and her sight still is not right.At the time I told the manager of store who refunded my Money for groom.I ended up having to call 800 number to get reimbursed for vet cost over 200 dollars.Its more than the money T did not even care enough to keep my dog safe,but she could take my $ and say nothing on Xmas week.Never again.I now take them to pet spa in kenilworth.Excellent.The Best. read more

I took my new kitten there for her shots on a Sunday evening when the vet was in. I was very disappointed that the vet nor his assistant didn't watch their hands or use hand sanitizer in between animals. Nor did they wipe the table in between. Even more sad is they had the hand sanitizer right next to them. I guess it was just for show. They didn't explain what they were doing either. Look like they were factory workers, just hustling to clear the long line and get paid. Next time I'll be more patient and wait for my vet appointment where real vet care is given. read more

this store sucks!!!!!!!! went to the store to buy some cheap fish for our son with a small fish tank equipped with filter,light,decorations,etc. lady try to sell us a 150 gallon tank plus all other crap. i told her that i just wanted something simple for our son and she told us that the tank that we were about to buy was to small for any fish. i asked her, why do you have it for sale at your store than if this tank is not good for anything? she told me that personally she wouldn't sell that fish tank at that store if it was up to her. omg!!!!!!!! this lady is crazy and i promise that i will never go back to that store and i will make sure that everybody that i know never goes to that store. screw petco!!!!!!!!!!!!!! went to petsmart and had no problems buying everything i wanted. read more
