Amazing experience and visit there today! Came in to get some different wet food for my picky senior cat to try and the ones I was looking for were on clearance. The gal that worked there saw me looking at the clearance table and made sure to let me know a different location cat food clearance also was in the store - which was MUCH appreciated! Upon checkout the guy worker was also pleasant and as he scanned made sure all the clearance prices were ringing up correctly which was amazing. As a customer, I definitely felt like my time being there was valued by employees and they both made sure to go above and beyond to cater what I needed. As a lifelong pet owner, I love coming to these type stores to see more speciality items and food that's available for my pets. Petco has done well with me over the past few years since my cat's on a special kidney diet, and as anyone who's had cats knows, their fussy eaters. After working with my vet about 2 years ago, we got puddy settled into her new diet and she's finally acclimated with her routine. When I was growing up we had a dog and we had that dog on Science Diet dog food. I also had a Beagle who ate science diet since he was over weight and getting these bags of food is somewhat expensive and this was before the day and age of the internet. So, coming to stores like this was imperative. But here's where I love Petco. In my area, there's only two stores that carry Puddy's Royal Canin wet food for her kidneys in the loaf style can, and that's Petco! (the other one's pet supplies plus.) I buy the cans about 5 or 6 at a time since a case (24 cans) is $70 on Chewy. The reason I get 5-6 can's at a time is because my cat's primarily on a dry food grazing diet. Wet foods only on request. Sometimes puddy will pass on the wet food for a few days and since I don't want it spoiling, I don't buy in large quantities. So, off to Petco we go. During the pandemic, there was a huge pet food shortage, and Petco saved me a few times by having it available and in stock when other places didn't. The food shortage went on for a good long while and it was rough there for a hot minute. But, they did me right and always came through when I placed an order and had it, compared to Petsmart who doesn't carry half of what I need anymore. The joy of shopping here is not only do they have my specialty food, but I can order in advance on their website and it'll be ready for pickup when I'm there. Sometimes they'll have it on sale and I do save a few bucks but I also like seeing what else they have here. I've picked up a few other things while here in the past which helps. The staff here's good, but for a while there, it was slacking. I appreciate them, especially post pandemic. They also do pet adoptions which is great. They have a grooming center for dogs, but puddy doesn't need grooming, so we don't go. I think they might have a vet area, but we have a specialty cat vet so I don't utilize that either. I'd give no stars if I could. for some dumb reason, I continue to shop at this Petco in Sterling Heights, Michigan. Every single time I have attempted to purchase live fish. I have to go to the front counter and get someone to help me. No one is ever ready available. Now yet again the fish purchased have died EVERY time I buy some fish from here at least half die. Yes! the tank water is good. I test weekly. the service and product from Petco are not good. I will no longer shop at this company. Just making others aware.... I usually go to Petsmart more, but I love stopping in at Petco as well. They both have adoptions for cats and dogs every other Saturday, which is amazing. The store has a different setup, but the same type of animals. They have guinea pigs, ferretd, hampsters, lizards, snakes, birds, fish, cats, dogs, etc. They hahe a separate room in the back where they keep the dogs. Through another glass door they have kittens as well. In order to play with them and touch them, you need to fill out a form as an interest to adopt. Once the paperwork is filled out, they can take the dog in the training pen, or the cat in a little pen section. We did this for my niece when she was 2 for the cats. She loved cats, but my sister wanted to see how she would react to an actual cat. Let's just say she was not ready at all, and ran away from it. She now 3 and loves playing with my mom's cat, so it's still an option. We love adopting from Petco and Petsmart because we are giving pets a good home. We know that they have their vaccines, shots, and they are fixed. They give you a book with the information of each vaccine and who did them. Our kittens are a part of our family now, and we love them. They have a dog training camp as well. You can get your dog or cat groomed too. Any employee will answer questions you have about your pet. read more

Maybe just maybe I'd come back to shop. Although I've only shopped at Petco once in 1.5 years! I don't have an issue with this particular store I just prefer PetSmart. My Jack Russell (Almost 2 y.o) is a good pup. We only go to the grooming station for nail trimming... Stopped into Petco yesterday and their "rules" are ridiculous!! They're not able to lift my 15lb Baby and they expected him to walk behind the station for his nail clippings with the leash around his neck. Even with his harness on and my leash they had to use their leash around his neck. So of course. Never having a leash around his neck to walk - he didn't budge. So you're going to drag my already nervous dog behind the counter and then lift him?! Ha! Nope. Walked out and went to PetSmart! read more

Absolutely wonderful staff! My favorite is hands down marcy! Everyone there is so nice and knowledgeable! They all have all star personalities and try their best to help everyone else to the best of their abilities. I rarely recommend a grooming salon because it takes a lot to make me happy when it comes to my babies. I recently tried this Petco because my dog desperately needed to be groomed. Was taking my dog there on a regular basis. Noticed after grooming she was butt scooting and I had to bring her back several times to have them checked. I also noticed her ears weren't cleaned and the hair inside the ears weren't clipped well. They show them being groomed but the room they're kept in for hours waiting completion is shut and you can't see the conditions or contacts with other dogs. Noticed the place was always busy with dogs being groomed. Now I see many times no dogs being groomed. Grooming area is empty. I've also heard a lot of complaints from other people about their services. read more

We adopted our dog Dani here when she was a puppy from the Michigan Humane Society in the store and have been coming in ever since. Staff is always friendly and it's always clean. Pretty good prices on treats, toys and food. We take our dog to get groomed every few months, they are THE BEST! Good prices and I cannot recommend the groomer Chelsea enough. She is so sweet and friendly with every dog I've seen her with especially with ours. The only experience I do not have with the store is the trainers but they usually seem to be full which is a good thing. We get a lot of coupons in the mail too which is helpful. I love this PetCo because they have a Michigan Humane Society offsite location in it! I love to come here and check out all the kitties. A lot of weekends they also have rescues bring their kitties in for adoptions. Employees are always helpful and prices are reasonable. read more

this is the worse service petco i ever went to. first of all when we wanted both of my dogs groomed, one of the workers was taking a phone call and when she was done she started taking poorly about the client right in front of us! I keep a 50 gallon freshwater aquarium and I was look to make my planted tank more accurate in depicting Lake St Clair. I heard that Petco had a serious variety of fish, so I assumed I wouldn't have any trouble "reeling in" the perfect addition to my artificial habitat. I like my piece and quiet, so I had gone to great lengths to make sure my water filter and other aquarium equipment ran silently. To my dismay, the fish themselves made far too much noise with their continuous swimming. At petco I was happy to see that a number of the fish were virtually motionless. I asked the tall african american clerk to scoop out some of these docile creatures, but he refused saying, "you don't want no dead fish." I told him that was irrelevant, since my aquarium is primarily decorative, but I ended up leaving empty handed. -Swank read more

I will never ever ever ever ever come back here. They failed to call me and tell me that my regular groomer moved out of state and when i came in they gave her to someone else. They put my dog in the dryer when she always gets air dried because she's terrified of the dryer. I was charged for a pick 3 spa package that i did not receive. And my dogs nails were not even trimmed. Then they had the audacity to "pre-book" a random appointment for my dog in 4 weeks that i never asked for? And got rude with me when I cancelled it. My dog is from the humane society right next door to this groomer and she's very nervous with new people and all of the groomers at this location knew that. And they still had me come in with her knowing our groomer no longer worked there. I just think it's ridiculous and they're money hungry and I would rather take her somewhere that actually cares about animals. read more

I love this Petco!! Everyone is always so friendly and willing to answer all your questions. We took my sister's 12 week old puppy to get groomed here and they did a great job. We even signed him up for a 6 week puppy training class and a puppy social that they offer. We were able to save $30 between the grooming and the classes with my free Petco membership card which made it even better! read more

BEWARE THEY WILL INJURE YOUR PET- I will never go back there. When I went to pick up my dog, not only did the cut look horrible, but my dog was having trouble walking. Took her to the vet and discovered they had injured her right hip. I reported this to the manager and who shrugged it off and offered to groom my dog again for 40% off, but couldn't care less that she had been injured. We never went back. My dog now has a permanent limp. Stay away if you care about your pet's safety because Petco sure doesn't. read more

I love the staff who check me out at Petco. They always go out of the way to help with the big items, and they are kind to all of the animals no matter their behavior. I have even watched them treat some of the tougher customers with kindness. It's an average place, but some products are well-overpriced and some of the animals are in fairly poor condition. Some of the leopard geckos seem alarmingly thin and one visit the ferret tank had a lot of poop as if no one was even there to clean for them. Other than those concerns it's not TERRIBLE but could be better. read more

Getting in and out of the parking lot is a bit weird, but the store set up is good. They need to clean up more quickly after dogs urinate or have something for owners to clean up if their dog has an accident. What I most like is that they have an adoption center that is open every day, giving homeless pets an opportunity to find new homes. Staff is nice. read more

Bought a training collar for my dog and it ended up being defective, zapping the dog on its own with no battery's in the remote. Lost my receipt but still had all the packaging and all I asked for was an exchange for a new one after only a week had past and since I'm not a pals member nor did the cashier ask for my phone number I'm out of luck. Their response was " you'll just have to buy a new one". Way to take care of customers petco, you really go above and beyond. I will be purchasing a new one from you only to return the defective one in the new packaging since you can't just do it. I will also no longer shop for any of your stores. read more

I was so disappointed by this store! My 14 year old daughter and I went to take a look in the adoption center at the dogs. Before going into the store my daughter warned me of a woman who yells at you if you pet the dogs and sure enough she was right. Inside the adoption center there was a sign saying Please dont stick your fingers in the cages which was only hanging above the cages with larger dogs so it made complete sense. Now we went over to look at the puppies and started to pet them and such, then this woman came over and told us were not allowed to pet them because WE are giving them germs. I had never heard of us giving dogs germs and was really upset because how could we see if that was a dog we wanted to get if we couldn't pet them and get their reactions? This lady worked for the Humane Society and I had remembered that at the actual Humane Society they freely let you touch the animals. Also at other stores such as Petsmart they have cats you can freely pet as well and I know cats have more germs than dogs so If anything the dogs at this store are giving us germs. I honestly feel bad for these animals that they can not get affection and that this woman makes you feel so uncomfortable you just wish to leave. How could someone want to buy a pet that they cant even pet or touch? I really dont understand why this is the only store that you cant pet the animals you would like to adopt. I will never be purchasing anything from this store again. read more
