You see, I'm not real fond of Vet visits and when COVID-19 changed all the office visit rules my human Mom (I call her Mamashine) knew we needed to do some homework before my annual checkup. I suppose they mean well at the doctor's office, but they always have an interest in my "tail pipe". You can be sure that my Dutch bootie doesn't offer voluntary inspections and I don't take kindly to their needling practices. Clearly, I was going to need to wear a muzzle. My Mamashine always puts my muzzle on when we are in the doctor's office, but this time was going to be different plus the appointment was in July which means "HOT Weather" and I wanted the freedom to eat treats, drink water and breath. My old cloth muzzle wasn't going to work. Flashback to June 2020 before Meeshiner's Field Trip to the Veterinarian: One fine summer day a really nice human named Tammy P. Crenshaw sent something to my house. It first showed up to play in my backyard! It's name was Baskerville and it allowed me to be extremely nosey when we introduced ourselves. As a matter of fact, Baskerville encouraged my sniffs and licks! I don't know how Baskerville did it, but it always had a stash of fresh hotdogs or cheese to share when I got in to its business and it stayed for many days even if I ignored it! As the days of June passed it was clear that Baskerville was my summer 2020 romance. It wasn't long until it started taking rides on my snout. We got so friendly that I even allowed Baskerville to hitch itself to my collar and go on car rides with me. We got very tight! I was howling with happiness when the day came for my appointment. Mamashine allowed Baskerville to come along! When I arrived at the Vet's Office I was allowed to take Baskerville on a snout ride. I left Mamashine to watch the car and my gear while my favorite Vet Tech led me and Baskerville in to see the doctor. Like usual, the doctor was interested in my tail pipe, and of course the standard needling was required, but Baskerville and its unending supply of fresh hotdogs gave me the security and composure I needed to get through my checkup. Now I have some hind sight about my friend Baskerville. Remember me mentioning that nice lady named Tammy? Well, it turns out she's a Certified Dog Trainer and her dog training company is named The Sensitive Dog, LLC. Apparently, she knows a thing or two about dog behavior and all this time SHE was teaching my Mamashine how to make me fall in love with Baskerville so I could take my dear friend on a ride to see the Veterinarian! It's not surprising to me now, but I also learned that Baskerville helps keep dogs like me out of trouble in all kinds of situations. Sometimes, that's what friends are for! Tammy P. As a further waste of my time, I was given one price for training only to be upsold once I was in person. It's great they have these favorable reviews but my experience was completely negative. It's probably worth noting these reviews seem to be rather dated. Perhaps the management changed or ownership changed. The staff needs to take more copious notes when initially speaking with potential clients. In my experience if the manager had a modicum of common sense she would have offered a discount on a class for the inconvenience they caused.

Our German Shepherd pup had so many issues in the beginning & spent many visits at the Vet, then at the same time I was at my end with serious health issues with father in law tapping my husband's strength and involvement I was so desperate many times with hoping we could keep our beloved puppy. It's been a hard road, we have tried to learn a lot to self teach ourselves and researched more local training facilities but nothing seemed to fit. Our first consultation with Ryan gave us a lot of confidence that finally a solid professional dog trainer. When he and Sarah came for our first session we were absolutely astounded. They truly are very in tune to the dog and they were also extremely capable of engaging us to be apart of the training. Their love for the pup and what they do shines through! I loved learning how to break down each little piece of learning about what our goals were and working with my Jedi to see her GET IT. I became more amazed at what dogs are capable of than I ever knew was in these incredible animals we become family with. We have made more progress with northBound Dog Training in short order that I think is a testimony to their skills and ability to capture what we need to know and what our dog needs from us. They really get how the dog is wired up and honing in on the dog's awareness, as well as reading the dog for tolerating how much time is needed for the work your doing. I would recommend them to anyone who wants a caring, kind, skilled and capable dog trainer that will listen to you as the owner and help you understand the ways they do their work to have you be apart of it. Believe it -- we now have a truly Great Dog. He absolutely obeys 15 commands -- including walking peacefully with a slack leash, off, leave it, drop it, heel, sit. Etc etc. We have to be consistent in using commands, and the rewards are sensational!! It's life changing. Not cheap but worth it.

Our 2 yo Australian Shepherd, Sedona, is a sweet, affectionate, and smart little lady. But before her boarded training, she could be very skittish around strangers, especially kids, and was absolutely miserable to walk on a leash. When we first got her, we had dreamt of bringing her to restaurants and breweries, but as she got older, she became more nervous and unpredictable: growling, barking, and hiding behind me when we were out in public. We knew this wasn't going down a good road for her, so I did a lot of research and ended up finding ALS. Jim came over and met Sedona, observed her, and came up with a plan. We were very apprehensive about her going away for a couple months, but we knew other people who'd sent their dogs away for 2 weeks with little to show for it in the long run. Our biggest worry was that she would lose her sparkling, goofy, loving, fun personality and become a robot. Jim and Evan reassured us, and we moved forward. Throughout the process, the communication from ALS about Sedona's progress was flawless, and we felt totally comfortable - although we definitely missed our girl! We are now 6 months out from completing her boarded training course, and we couldn't be happier. Sedona is her spunky, happy, affectionate self, but she has much more confidence when meeting new people. Her recall is 100%; I walk her 3 miles every morning off leash, with my stroller and my other dog on a waist leash. She has been confronted by strangers and dogs walking on the sidewalk, dogs barking from yards with (or without) fences, children waiting for the bus eagerly hoping to pet her - and she doesn't flinch. We have had zero issues, and I never worry about her safety or wonder what she will do; I know. When we are on walks, people constantly comment on how amazing she is that she just stays with me. We are so proud of her and are eternally grateful to ALS. The people at ALS are not only dedicated to helping you and your pet have the best quality of life, but they also genuinely love animals, and I feel that that makes all the difference. We give them the highest recommendation and will pursue boarded training with them for all of our future dogs!

We took their training class which helped a lot but quickly realized we needed more. Jim came to the house and evaluated her in home behavior. After many questions, emails and phone calls, we trusted them to help us with Sophie. She's finishing her training and after our transition sessions we will be one big happy family! Not only have they trained Sophie, they've trained us too. The follow up house visits will be invaluable helping us keep o Jim and Evan are truly gifted and we would enthusiastically recommend their company. They are are only kennel we trust. The love, patience and attention that is showered on the dogs they work with is 2nd to none. Yes, they are a bit more than any doggie care around BUT you get what you pay for and they are worth every penny!!
