Petco is the go to for our Cane Corsos Bruno and Ghost who are 7 months old on the 23rd of November. We are always greeted with a smile and immediately asked if we could be helped. What I enjoy about this particular Petco is every time we visit the floors are clean, no smell of urine or number 2 HUGE PLUS. The team members are professional and courteous. One in particular is Mayra. Mayra always remembers Bruno and Ghost and our boys are always excited to see her. Mayra is extremely knowledgeable and will look up any questions I have regarding our boys Bruno and Ghost. Petco does offer vaccines every Tuesday and the vet is friendly, patient and gentle with every lil family member he meets. We will be back for treats, toys and food for Bruno n Ghost. Thank you Mayra and Team Petco for welcoming our boys to Schaumburg with smiles and customer service.

Needed to pick up dog food and Petco is our go to place. Of course, you can't go into Petco without picking up a dog toy or two and some rawhide. Today, it was one of their shelter days. There were about a dozen dogs they were showing, all on leashes and placed strategically around the store. For $5 we bought a goodie bag to help the shelter and got a $5 off coupon we used for the dog food. I fell in love with a small Springer Spaniel with a lame paw. No one knew how it was hurt as a puppy, but now at 3 years old, the dog was happy and got around well. It was so friendly and I swear she begged me to take her home with me. But, my better judgment prevailed and we left with the goodie bag, a hedgehog dog toy and a 30 pound bag of dog food.

Lexi did such an amazing job on my dog cookie she made her comfortable the moment I stepped in , she had been traumatized from past groomers and when I picked her up she was so happy ! I showed her a picture of how I wanted my dogs hair cut and she did exactly like the picture ! I highly recommend her she was so sweet as well Thankyou Lexi :)

Took my dog in tonight to get his nails trimmed. The girl who was there, her name was Ashley. She greeted us and we told her what we were looking for. She told me that they have a special that included nail trim and buff, ear clean, brush out for 15 minutes for $20.00 and if I wanted his teeth brushed it would be an extra $5.00. I couldn't pass it up. We stood there watching how much fur she took off. He sheds all the time. It was unbelievable. My dog was smiling the whole time. I will be coming back to this Petco!!!!

Another day, another cat-related review from Candice G. So far, I'm three for three in October... can I make it the whole month!? Answer: Maybe, but I ain't aiming for it. I mean, that just sounds damn crazy, and that's coming from a cat lady. ... I will, however, give a little forewarning that tomorrow's review will be feline-focused as well. So sit tight and get ready for at least one more day of heavy petting. Again, on the search for a decent litter-box selection, but after visiting 6 different stores, I finally came to the conclusion that they just don't make 'em like they used to and I'd have to suck it up and get a new crummy model of something that seems like it should be pretty simple and straightforward, but somehow, is not. It's a box... to poop in. A $30-$40 box, TO POOP IN. Sooo, maybe cat people really are crazy. But it still beats taking a dog (though I love dogs) for a walk in negative 10,000 degree Chicago winter days and picking up the steaming pile just so you can get a little bit of warmth against your gloves. Domestication... apparently the root of all crazy. Anyway, the sh*tter selection here was decent, but they only had one of the kind I wanted and I needed two... plus, I think it was a couple bucks more than at PetSmart, as they were having a sale. This PetCo did have several items that were priced better than the other chain store, like litter and canned cat food, though we ended up leaving empty handed as Target actually was better priced than all of them, plus I get the 5% off with the Target RedCard, so it was a no-brainer. So while I didn't end up purchasing anything from this location, the store was clean, the animals (mostly rodents) seemed like happy little hairballs and the staff were both friendly and helpful and spent time interacting with each other in a professional manner (something that can't be said for PetSmart), the customers and the animals. I especially enjoyed the one girl with the bird on her shoulder offering to answer any of our questions, or help us locate anything we were looking for. I'll go back to price-compare against the plethora of area pet supply stores, and I'm sure someday I'll have some business that can be wrapped up here and topped off with a smile from my friendly neighborhood PetCo-worker.

Nero after arriving home with the goods.

The story Violet and Sit Means Sit:…read more Most people know that Pitbulls are some of the most gentle, loving, fun, and all around biggest babies you could imagine. What people don't know, however, is that there's a little something known among the bully breeds as "The Pittie Screams." For those who have never heard this obnoxious sound (i.e. the majority of the population), it's kind of like a mix between a metalcore vocalist and a toddler throwing a hissy fit. It's loud. It's embarrassing. It makes people on the street cower in terror and hide their children. It makes your neighbors look out of their windows because they think someone is getting murdered. Which brings me to my adorable baby girl, Violet. I rescued her in September of 2017, so I really have no idea what she went through prior to being in the shelter. She's a phenomenal dog that loves literally everyone and is very obedient, but I learned fairly quickly that she is NOT a fan of other dogs (or bunnies). The pulling, lunging, barking, screaming, and other aggressive behaviors she exhibits when we encounter animals, made it so difficult to bring her outside that I had to walk her behind the townhouses we live in (shared backyards without separating fences). Thanks to Tony and Mikey, I'm no longer afraid to take Violet for walks ON THE SIDEWALK, like NORMAL pets get to do! Violet spent 11 days doing a Board and Train with them last fall and has progressed phenomenally. They really have done an amazing job with her! They're responsive to any questions and concerns, and the initial training cost includes individual follow-up and group training sessions for the rest of Violet's life. *That being said, it's super important for people to realize that dog training is just as much about training yourself as it is about training the pet. IT'S NOT MAGIC!!! You don't send your dog to a board and train or puppy class and expect them to come home being perfect, obedient angels. Just like human children, your dog is eventually going to be a brat, and you, as the adult, need to learn to lead them and mold their behaviors in a positive way. Sit means Sit has provided both me and Violet with the tools and support we need to continue to overcome her issues with other animals, and we are SO very thankful! Just last week Violet actually let another dog LICK HER FACE. It was amazing and I couldn't be more proud :) Unfortunately, Violet and I will be moving across the country in a few months, but Mikey and Tony will continue to support us and have even offered to help us ease into another Sit Means Sit location. Seriously worth every penny and I recommend them to everyone!

Investing in Tony at Sit Means Sit was the best money I have ever spent in my entire life. Not only did my dog come back a completely different dog, but I also have an ongoing support system. It's been a year and a half since I got my first dog back and a few months since I got my youngest dog back and Tony is just as responsive now as he was in the beginning. He isn't just there to help, you can tell he cares about helping. He is so passionate about all these dogs....it's amazing. I don't know what I'd do without Tony. It very quickly became clear that they were VERY uncomfortable with anyone coming into our home. At this point I began my search for a dog trainer. I was SO SO SO close to giving my money to one of those "fix it quick" dog training companies. Thanks to some helpful advice I received online, I quickly realized that your every day, run of the mill dog trainer is NOT equipped to handle such cases, and can often make the behavior worse over time. Knowing that I needed someone who actually knows what they are doing, I looked for local trainers on the "Certified Professional Dog Trainers" directory, and found Mary. It was such a joy to work with her. Given that my pups are afraid of strangers, it just so happened to work out perfectly that Mary was, in fact, a stranger. She took me step by step through the process of getting my dogs acclimated to people by having me practice techniques on her, and by the end of our sessions together, my pups were wagging their tails and excited whenever she would arrive. While stranger reactivity doesn't go away overnight, she equipped me with the skills I need to slowly acclimate my dogs to people over the years and years we will inevitably spend together. I could see that she was a little sad on our last session, which is such a testament to how much love and care she brings for her clients and their dogs. When we returned to our normal work schedules we would leave her home for 6-7 hours a day. She seemed to be great in her crate or in the kitchen during the day but after a few days she started to wreak havoc in the house. Breaking out of her crate, two couches, tons of poop, and chewed window sills later, we reached out to Kendra and Scott for help. She had separation anxiety and needed to be taught how to be confident in herself again. Our pup went to the two week board and train program and came out a brand new girl. She was confident. She was calm. She was no longer anxious. We can now walk her without a leash if we needed to. She comes when called. Most importantly she doesn't break out of her crate, and finds it as a safe place now. Her training saved her and saved us. Our girl loves being able to visit Kendra every now and then and we have the confidence of boarding her with someone we trust. Someone who plays with our pup. We were dealing with food & high value treat /toy aggression, leash & barrier aggressions, and their coming on call (especially when chasing rabbits were more fun situations than coming to mom & dad) was unreliable at best. Enter Kendra at Canine Peace of Mind. Kendra worked with us on the best board & train program for each of them, customizing their 'stay' schedules based on progress and behavioral shifts. We sent both our dogs to CPM from Sept 2018 - Oct 2018. Kendra knows how tough it is to leave your 'kids' for that extended period of time (because she's done it too!) and made sure to send us picture and video updates on how each of them were progressing. Seeing the quick process made the distance so worth it. Fast forward to picking our pups up on handover day and the difference was remarkable. But it was on us to take those skills & discipline home with us. A couple months into having them home (Jan of this year), we recognized we still needed help (user error!) and Kendra did a house call, free of charge, to help us in reigning in & tightening up their training & our/their behaviors. What an immense help as we saw immediate change and are continuing to build that owner/dog trust together. Here's the from / to for our pups and our family: - From never being able to walk in public on a leash for fear of lashing out against another dog (even when across the street) to walking twice a day at heeling position for 2-3 miles a day, despite what we encounter. - From not having reliable recalls in the least, to trusting our dogs (and because we have grown into much more confident dog owners, trusting ourselves) to have them off leash. We love to go get the mail, take out the trash, etc. together with our dogs. - From breakfast & dinner times being HORRIBLE experiences due to fighting, low growling, & crate checking to having peaceful feeding times. - From having no control during high energy times to having a tool & command for them to go to a dedicated 'place' in any room to calm down and give each other (and us) space. I could go on. But what I would say is if you are encountering any of the above issues, please consider Canine Peace of Mind and their board & train programs. As working professionals that knew we didn't have the time or expertise to dedicate in order to get our pups where they needed to be, we are so happy we did. It has transformed the time we get to all spend together from dread to time that we look forward to because it's happy & enjoyable (which is why we all got these guys in the first place, am I right?). They also offer day care & boarding. We have taken them up on boarding a few times as we know that they get a bit more attention than any standard boarding and they are held accountable to their training just as much there as they are at home.
