I went into the training facility to check it out and talk for 30 min about what my dog needed. I was not too happy that they even asked me if it was ok to use a PINCH COLLAR on my 15 pound miniature schnauzer. I don't care how small or little the collar is I will not allow a stranger to be in control of pinching my dog. Not to mention this can create worse behaviors down the road on top of being shelter dog no way! I asked for the board and train and basically was denied every option for that and he told me I could only do drop off and could only do a two week option for drop off appointments only. He wouldn't even consider doing the third option for off leash training like wth? Why? Makes zero sense to me. He made it seem like my Dog was not capable of it when I know he is capable of mastering any type of training given to him. And his going to because I would not take my dog here not for the basic training leash skills or whatever. Energy was way off when I walked in there. I asked to see the property and to show me your and he didn't he just opened one door to huge gun looking area. I want to know where the kennel my dog will be sitting in I. Between sessions and so forth. Using a pinch collar on a tiny dog. No wonder you have all the dogs sitting down all together not making a move is prob bc you yanked the prongs back into their neck! I believe in positive training and nothing positive came out of this! Very discouraging and needless to say I will take my $8000 else where to be spent properly and with care. I have had two other meetings with trainers and they have no problem taking dog into board and train and for 8 weeks to correct behavior problems. My rescue dog Arthur was having a very hard time adapting to city life, he was very reactive to other dogs, people, and walking him became a nightmare. Although sweet had displayed leash reactivity which made her hard to manage and difficult to socialize with other dogs. The whole staff at Dog Training Now had a tremendous roll in correcting that. This place is in a completely hidden location and it's easy to miss. A few moths ago I called to sign up for level 1 dog obedience training at the Hoffman Estates location. The customer service team was on point. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. Based on first impressions, I was excited to bring my dog in for orientation and get him on his way to bring the puppy prince that I knew he could be. When I pulled up to what looked like an industrial park, I was a little skeptical because there is minimal grass. Yeah I'm a boogie grass lover! I go inside for the orientation and greeted by about 10 barking dogs ( who I assume) were excited to graduate from their program! Hmm we go into a side room for orientation to wait for the consultant to finish up with a previous session maybe 5 minutes max not long at all. They ask me a few questions about my dog and check his current skill level. After the orientation, they tell me that the next session is full for the next few months. We adopted a 15 month old Portuguese Water Dog that was going to be used for breeding until the breeder decided her underbite wasn't a good trait to pass along. She spent a lot of her early life in a kennel and didn't have much obedience training. She has a ton of energy and was quite ignorant of personal space. Dog Training Now was recommended to us by a friend who took his pit there to be trained. Our dog was a sweetheart in the house but was dog aggressive when she was on a leash. We enrolled her in the 4 week Board and Train program so she could learn off leash skills too. Of course the biggest piece of the puzzle was training us how to work with her. I signed up for their board/train learning option where the assigned trainer takes your fur baby to their home at the end of the day. Other training facilities may do a board train but many will just leave them kenneled by themselves at night and on weekends. If you're reading this, please do not take your dog here for anything. If you love your dog and they're a part of your family then this is not the place for them. Six months prior to this review, our dog did a 2-week boarding and obedience course with no issues. On our latest stay, which was a few weeks ago, he did a one week graduate refresher course with boarding. The night before we were supposed to pick him up we got a text from the trainer saying that our guy was 'good' but had an 'episode' of loose stool. We got him the next morning and he looked dehydrated. We got him home and our dog was about to pass out during his bath. He was so withdrawn from us we knew something was off. He then wouldn't stop having diarrhea so we took him to the vet immediately. He got IV fluids, antibiotics, pain meds and antiemetics for 2 days! On day 2 since we got him back, he was pooping blood! The vet sent out the sample and it grew bacteria that could've potentially killed him. He had acute hemorrhagic gastroenteritis. The vet also concluded that it was something he ate. We sent an email to DTN regarding our dogs condition with the vet receipts, his pathology results, a request for a refund and reimbursement for the vet and all we got back was a refund for a future stay. Then a few days later we got an email from the owner saying he talked with the vet (which there has to be some violation)etc and that this bacteria is common and can grow spores under stress? Stress?? So our dog was under stress that grew spores? Spores just don't grow in a healthy gut out of thin air. Stress from a change in environment? This didn't happen in his two weeks stay previously. Why now? Anyway give me a break. This owner is looking for any excuse not take responsibility. They were quick to hand over our dog that day and now we can see why. Off note, dogs nor humans require 2 days of iv fluids for a single episode of loose stools. He definitely had more than one episode to require fluids. Fact is he got sick under DTN's care and they tried to smear everything as if we're delusional and this is normal. What if he died? Then what? They're really good at trying to collaborate lies to fit their narrative. Our dog had the same diet/food he did six months ago as he does now. I wouldn't be surprised if other dogs were sick but we weren't informed. This place, particularly the owners, only care about the money. They don't care about your pet. And they also cherry-pick their clientele for positive reviews. They don't want to hear any negativity because they can't handle the truth and surely can't take responsibility. They don't care about our pet and treated them as if they were a piece of crap if things don't go their way. Don't trust them. This place made it harder for us to trust other training or boarding facilities to consider in the future. My dogs (Sucio and Azul) both attended puppy pre-school and Crate and Potty training about a year ago. Socialization taught me so much, from taking my dog to the park and giving him treats as he stopped barking at bikes to teaching him to be excited when seeing runners, instead of alert. As a cattle dog, Azul required a lot more socialization than Sucio but thanks to this place, he learned. No, he doesn't love to play with other dogs, but he greets, runs around and understand the expected behavior in public places. Today, Sucio and Azul are able to visit dog parks, indoor water pools, dog events, etc.. without an issue. Sucio as an American Staffordshire was attacked at a dog park and instead of fighting back and potentially murdering the dog, he corrected, then I came to the rescue. I mean sure I wish he knew to defend himself better but he knows when the issue goes beyond him correcting, and he trusts me to step in. As an owner of this breed, I am grateful. Little dogs go after him, he corrects and teaches them to play nice. His bite is so strong (toys go fast) but thanks to training, he defies the breed stereotype. Him having been passed around the circle at Dog Training Now made him love people and kids! All thanks to the after puppy preschool sessions and what we learned about reading our dogs play, when to correct, guiding them and showing them the way. Sucio went on to an obedience course, and "stay" and "place" are the best words he could have learned. Thanks Matt and thank you Dog Training Now. Now, add a pool! Location was always clean during our visit, Matt, our trainer was knowledgeable, patient and willing to teach me how to become a dog handler. Will definitely return for refresher courses. By the way, I love that for every 20 reviews, DTN is willing to train a dog in a shelter seeking their Fur-Ever home. I grew up with dogs most of my life, and we never had professional training for our family dogs. I was a little skeptical about how much a puppy can learn/retain in a 10-day obedience class. We met with Dan for a consultation and he helped answer all my questions with a friendly and positive attitude. We signed up for puppy daycare and the 10-day obedience classes when he was old enough. Danteh (our pup) just graduated from obedience training, and I couldn't be happier with the progress we've seen with him. Danteh can be a challenge and set in his ways. After each day the Dog Training Now (DTN) team provided us with what he learned, showed us, and had us perform it with them before we left. We then took all the information and applied it at home during the evenings. We wanted to get the most out of the training, and if we don't follow the same procedures when I wouldn't expect the results we have had. Danteh got to work with all the trainers at DTN and everyone has been so wonderful. I enjoyed the daily training session with the trainers and I have learned a lot too. One of the reasons I wanted to try obedience training was to help me with training a new puppy too, and I felt really comfortable making mistakes and having the team correct me as we went through the daily drills. I was so impressed with the care and results we also added a boarding to his training at the end so help solidify his new skills. I love that I can provide an updated 5 star review for Dog Training Now. Henry has now done three classes with Dog Training Now. One was a refresher week and the other was the off leash program. I did do the board and train which was worth every penny. He had a great experience both times. After the first refresher week, he still had to work on a few things that have been a problem: jumping and being away from me. Since I had a few weeks between the refresher course and the off leash program, I spent a lot of time working on Henry's jumping and his comfort with being away from me (he still hates it to be honest...but his time whining after I put him in his crate away from me is steadily decreasing. I swear he really wants to try my patience here!) He boarded with Allison (who is fantastic and kept in touch with me the entire off leash program...we love her) and he responded fantastically to the off leash program. I loved all the photos and videos posted to Facebook. He has been home several days now and each day we practice 2-3 times for about 10-15 minutes. Henry is doing it all perfectly. I have had fun making some difference place areas in the house and having him stay, heel, etc. More importantly, my neighborhood is filled with little kids. Henry loves to lay in the front yard and over the past two days, he has stayed laying on the ground when the kiddos come over to pet him. Can't stop all the kisses he loves to give, but he is much more calm with the excitability happening around him with little kids (especially on bikes, with dolls in hand, etc.). He has also done great off leash in my neighborhood filled with barking dogs and traffic rolling by. The next steps for Henry include the Good Canine Citizen test (which I'm pretty confident he will do well on) and then eventually therapy dog training. Dog Training Now has really set him up for success, and I have to keep it going in order for it all to stick. They gave him a base that I did not have the time to dedicate and for that I am so grateful. Your dog is only as good as the time you spend with him/her!!
